Plenty of press releases that work their way to our inbox have little relevance to Nintendo or games on its systems, but occasionally a slightly off-the-wall release actually achieves the task of being interesting. One example has come in from Aksys Games, which is partnering up with SCRAP Entertainment and Spike Chunsoft on Real Zero Escape: Trust on Trial, a real life 'experience' puzzle room.
These experience rooms are relatively common now, in which you go into a locked room or area - with friends, family or whoever - that's setup with a whole load of props and actors to recreate a fantastical scene. Trust on Trial is, as you'd expect, based on the Zero Escape series that so far includes DS title 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and 3DS release Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward. The third entry in the series, Zero Time Dilemma is planned for a global release on 3DS this year.
The Trust on Trial experience room is going to be in Little Tokyo in Los Angeles, with the event launching and running from 15th April. The official website is thin on details so far, though tickets will start to go on sale from 29th February.
Is this an experience you'd like to try out?

Is this like LARPing but with angsty teen survival manga?
Zero time dilemma cant come soon enough.
Super cool! Too bad I live on the wrong side of the States for this.
I'd love to go to this, but I'm on the other side of the world.
I went to a thing of this sort - Keysroom I think this one was called - and the whole time I couldn't think of anything but Zero Escape. It was really, really fun and the sort of puzzles we did were well thought out and really reminiscent of the ZE franchise.
As for the actual Zero Escape attraction on L.A., it sounds awesome and I'd love to be able to go, but there's a pesky ocean in the middle and not much money to get across it. I really hope a lot of people assist, though. Zero Escape both needs and absolutely deserves the love.
OMG fainting right now. I must go. I am obsessed with this game. I go to Little Tokyo quite often too! I wonder if I've seen them working on this project, in that little shopping center with the Marukai market? But across the pathway where it looks empty lol
Please stick me in a puzzle room where I can't get out and inject me with soporil when I fail.
Oh my god. If they do this in New York I will BE THERE
I feel bad that you call this an iconic series and I don't even know about it.
10/10 would attend if not for 3000 mile distamce between coasts. Sounds like a fantastic idea.
I'd go if I could afford it. It's just impossible for me to get there from Europe. On a sidenote, Zero Time Dilemma is going to be in GDC next month according to Uchikoshi (director and writer of the series). They have also revealed 6 out of 9 persons so far (pictures with no names) in last 5 weeks so I think it's fair to say we'll see the last 3 before GDC which is 4 weeks away.
Looks like fun.
I've always been tempted by the reputation these games have, as they seem like very special experiences. But a lifetime of video gaming has taught me that I totally suck at environmental puzzles and would probably not get out of the first room without using a walkthrough.
I didn't mind the sequel, but the original was one of the most boring and (frankly) annoying games I've ever played. Got it for 10$ on sale, traded it for 12$ and bought A Link Between Worlds with a 20$ prepaid Visa.
There used to be an 'experience' that simulated a refugee escaping into the States from Mexico. You had to sleep outside, there was a meal at the end and 'guards' shot at you with blanks.
It sounds like a better idea than this and Donald Trump's idea of 'good immigration policy'.
I sure hope no people going to this will take it too seriously and actually start offing each other, haha.
I really can't wait until ZTP comes out. VLR is one of my favourite gaming experiences of my life.
@Ras More like a iconic cult game. They've struggled with money to make these games, so advertising is low. Nintendo featured VLR once during I think Holiday 2013 in some paper/digital ads where just the logo was shown. The first game 999 was kind of obscure imo. Maybe because of lack of copies or because it's mature content?
I want to go just so I can BS my way into the first room and then start panicking and slamming on the door calling one of my friends a liar before my wristwatch explodes.
Only about a day's drive away..
I'll definitely go to one of these.
It sounds amazing and like a lot of fun, especially considering it's one of my favorite series ever.
There's going to be a lot of hipsters and weeaboos going to these events, which might put off less trendy fans from going.
@JasmineDragon There's "easy mode", that is, whenever a room escape section starts, it starts on "hard", but at any time you can switch to easy, where the solutions are basically spelled out for you in a very fun conversational way. Also you don't ever have to repeat anything unlike in the original game, thanks to the fantastic... ummmm something system. You shouldn't miss Virtue's Last Reward just because puzzles aren't your forte.
