Mario Wiimote, Pro Controller. The games would be tempting, I just need a new 3DS. Shopper's Drug Mart, for the jealous Canadians, regularly discounts the 3DS / XL. 170$ was the discount of late.
Seeing Lucina and Robin in action, in HD, is spiking my interest in SMT x FE. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a Direct dedicated to that game around SSBU's release. Amiibo looks even more expensive after this reveal!
Like Nintendo during the 80s and 90s, I hope games like LBP, Pushmo and Minecraft don't just entertain but open doors for the next generation of game designers. Not simple consumerism and audience but authentic, creative ambition. The UbiArt engine is just one example of inspiration amidst the banality of trend worship. Even in Ubisoft there's Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs, Far Cry and it's nice to see diversity. Heck, Call of Duty, Spiderman and Skylanders are all out from the same guys. Now only if we saw more originality and more departure.
If one were to question that statement, wondering if Goro has even a shred of his father's heart or head, you probably haven't watched From Up On Poppy Hill.
Yoshida-san is a traditional Japanese businessman, one who not only understands his competition but also acknowledges why people might buy or prefer their products. More so than anything else, he is a very honorable man. Like the Ghibli masters, he would rather lose his job than his humility and his dignity. In example, when Goro Miyazaki finished From Up On Poppy Hill, he asked that, should the film be received as poorly as he believed Tales From Earthsea was received, he not be given another chance. It's not a lack of confidence. It's a sense of reaching, ever higher, knowing that one will always fall short of perfection and that that's a good thing. Perfection is life's greatest impossibility, things can always be better. But also, as a businessman to not be too hard on yourself.
When both Pokemon and MH are so incredibly dominant, anything along those same lines blows up in Japan. It's a collector's obsession, one that is appropriately Japanese and exclusive to the country's reliance on space saving measures. When collecting hundreds of manga, dozens of figures and large consoles and their accompanying televisions isn't the best option, handhelds explode. Even adults see the draw in what can be a very cramped, crowded place.
I also agree with many on here. While I can skew my opinion to objectively state what I believe to be the best Zelda and not just my favorite, many aren't taking that approach. It also seems like alot of people haven't played certain Zelda titles, so that skews the poll that much further towards personal favoritism.
I'd say my own personal Top 5 would be: 1) Twilight Princess (I like linear experiences with exploration reserved for side quests) 2) A Link Between Worlds (It does everything A Link to the Past does, but with a more realistically skewed world map, a better use of rupees and good progression) 3) A Link to the Past (The music, bosses and gameplay is even or better than ALBW and the storyline is classic) 4) Link's Awakening (Ganon isn't the boss, incredibly diverse gameplay, intuitive world exploration) 5) Ocarina of Time / 3D (Timeless story, streamlined character development, classic ending, great original music thct integrates into the gameplay) Best Zelda? A Link Between Worlds. It takes A Link to the Past and improves on it in every way. I love all 5 of these and many more Zelda titles and many do not enjoy Twilight Princess, but like Mario, not everyone agrees that the first (3D Zelda in this case) was the best. Heck, I enjoyed NSMBU more so than either Mario 1 or 2, so what does that say?
Let's be honest, 3rd parties are still 10-15 million sales away from really caring the Wii U exists. Konami and Capcom are two more companies that have tested those waters. Prognosis, doctors? This patient is still on mandatory life support. And despite a strong recommendation by Kotaku and games coming, it's still not a system that is likely to ever flourish. Iwata's last console and Miyamoto's retirement party will both be the Wii U. I had hope for Zelda, Xenoblade and Smash to change that future. They won't. Nintendo will be handheld gaming only, maybe featuring a multiplayer verson of a Vita TV concept and using the handhelds as controllers, by summer 2017. And that's being generous by about 6-10 months. Mid 2016, Nintendo will announce the new device. Wii U projects will screech to a halt. Zelda could sell 10 million games but, like Mario Kart, won't be the salvation Nintendo's seeking.
Dauntless.. When a game like Retro City Rampage, not a VC game, sells less than a thousand copies on a system with over 150 million units sold, how much faith should 3rd parties really put into a system that has sold less than 6% of that? Considering that Nintendo has to make the Wii U's emulation hack proof, Gamepad compatible and would get a sliver of 3rd party titles, why devote resources for Sega if they end up getting nothing in return? HUNDREDS of PS1 games on the PS Store sell dozens of games per year. How is such a dividend worth the effort? Nintendo's slow trickle is a direct result of spending on new games, which would be counterproductive to hire a bunch of new people to work on VC. Could it be better? Of course. But with all the delays Nintendo's had in the last 5 years, money could also be better spent elsewhere.
Right now, I think maybe @World has the best idea. Takamaru. And a full game, from the first person perspective. With Gamepad and traditional controls. Nintendo obviously wanted that game to be bigger than it was. Red Steel 3, with better controls, is still a dream. But what if Nintendo beat Ubisoft to the blade?
Despite a number of VC releases, I can't see Snake or a Belmont appearing either. The 3DS has both of Konami's two biggest franchises, but the Wii U has been denied any new games. It's not like Ground Zeroes and Lords of Shadow 2 were game of the year candidates either. I honestly can't think of any character I'd really want that isn't already in the game. Then again, I'm just here for fun. I have no intention of purchasing SSB in any way, shape or form. For either system. Like the Mario Kart games, it's fun to sit in and watch a bunch of self entitled 'adult' gamers moaning about how their 'great' ideas aren't in the games or how something changed and it's just so.... ZZZZZZZZZZ. BORING to hear the same drivel sometimes. God forbid a company that's been doing this for 30+ years might know more about making games than you.
Shulk likely won't appearin Xenblade Chronicles X. The powers wouldn't really work in this game. And there's no point in pretending Shulk's regular costume is in any way an immensely popular or distinctive one. The Xenoblade guy is posting so all the fans of his games buy Smash and a Wii U. He's doing this to get the install base up. I mean come on, if the job you enjoyed doing could make you more money and be more enjoyable just by a co-worker succeeding, wouldn't you support that person? Sony wants Nintendo's competition and in the best real life example of my point, Sony's big wig owns 2 Wii Us and wishes more people would support what he thinks is a great system. Despite that both instances mean stronger competition, they support their comrades, whether in the same company or not.
The review seems fair but I question the familiarity Mr. Hughes has with the actual series. Watch any episode and you'll plainly see hordes of pathetically easy to beat marines / pirates tossed around by Luffy and crew. It seems that with every new location, there are those generic, nameless sorts that are vastly impressed and quickly, effortlessly decimated. Why? They got in the Strawhat pirates' way. Zoro, in a rather telling moment, beats the tar out of dozens of pirates, slicing their ship in half and casually remarking how he was on the wrong boat. In a series that features super powered pirates vs normal people, how close is the fight really going to be?
5 points to make: 1) It's a port from Japan, complete with recent storylines that haven't been dubbed, licensed or even casted yet. (hence the games subtitles) 2) At 650 plus episodes and 700 plus chapters, redoing events covered in earlier games would be a bit of a waste. (hence the lack of background provided) 3) Features events and storylines that detail and intimate on spoilers to those who refuse to watch subtitled anime. (so detailing the lack of dub is essential for Bandai Namco) 4) Is an anime game. So expectations shouldn't be set too high. 5) Won't be for alot of people. Is an anime game. Myself? 70 DVDs (collections have 4 each) , have watched every dubbed episode. Have viewed the first 580 subbed episodes. Have read the manga to it's current chapter. Don't own the manga, waiting for the series to finish to start. Owned games on the GC, Wii, PS2 and PS3. Got my partner and our son to start watching. She's excited to try the game and he loves the bright colors and crazy characters. So there might be 'core' gamers on here that bash Zelda U, lament the 200+ games available on Wii U, only watch 'guy movies', think animes for nerds, could be racist / homophobic / sexist and still judge anything Japanese for being exploitative. And those people can form rational opinions or bash senselessly and irrationally and that's just fine. But be decent and don't bash someone else for having one of their own.
Guys, I just had the craziest idea!! Ok, so Nintendo basically revolutionized gaming by incorporating the first analog stick, first d-pad, first shoulder buttons and so on, right? What if Nintendo were to do it.. again? I'm talking the first combination d-pad / analog stick that actually works, eliminiating the need for both. I don't know how, but it was this crazy, what if kind of thought. It was inspired, in no small way, by this exact post. Doesn't the d-pad area look like it could be some wacky combination of the two?? I definitely think so!
I hardly ever use the restore points, to be honest. Never had them before, don't usually emulate (unless it's a weirdly unavailable game like DKC 3). The WII mode suspends play when I exit the title, so it brings me back to the days of the day long pause. You finish at night, but couldn't save, so you pause the game and come back to it the next night. This way, I achieve my desired result and still save energy. Or I can jump to another game entirely. Save states / restore points seem cheap to me.
After all the hate between Sega and Nintendo during the 'console wars' it's ironic to see Sonic on a PS system and people not think it's out of place. I mean, the PS2's backward compatibility was what truly shot them ahead of the Dreamcast, sending Sega's console division to an early grave. No, Sega didn't help matters and yes, they shot themselves in the foot more than once. But it was Sony that performed the coup de grace, not Microsoft and not Nintendo.
So, because they can't make it to market before the end of August (with no games scheduled) and who wants to compete with Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Amiibo, Hyrule Warriors, Toad's first starring role, Smash Bros, Lego Batman in space and Bayonetta 2? Delaying the game until, say, February is smart. That way people will have money to buy it. Heck, when you think about all the great idie games still to come this year on Wii U, waiting for the holiday season to bolster their audience is smart.
Square Enix games finally start showing up on the Wii U VC. As a direct response, the new character is.. Chrono!! And an HD remake of Chrono Trigger is announced, exclusive to the Wii U!! That or Mallow. Come on, the little puff puff deserves a slot
I enjoy horror, games like Myst, D and the price seems worth having a unique experience. Puddle was a 10$ game I wish I could have paid 2$ for. I've only played AC3 for 3 or 4 hours. Last Assassin's Creed I'll ever play. Point is, a great looking game isn't always worth the price and a mediocre looking one could be fun for a few hours.
@daveh30 Yeah, it seems to be iTunes all over again. Which is ridiculous. I don't get why digital distribution for a single territory has to be so seperated.
Obviously, some games are earlier if not instant purchases, but alot of stuff is getting tired. So I wait for sales for what often feels like double dipping (Hey ACIV!)
One Piece, super cheap Injustice, Armillo, Guacamelee, dirt cheap the Letter. And I still haven't bit on my own copies of Knytt Underground, Unepic, Rayman Legends, Sonic the Lost World, Wonderful 101 or Deus Ex: HR yet either. Games are becoming cheaper and thus, much more attractive.
@Chubblings I could rattle off at least 8 more characters that COULD be playable, aren't villains and debunk your theory. Go, you say? All righty then! Ruto, Rutela, Darunia, Dangoro (was a boss, but still a Goron with a unique fighting style), the Ordon mayor, Groose, Gaepora (another master swordsman and physically stronger than Link) and Sheikah, a character that doesn't necessarily have to be Zelda and would obviously not play the same as Zelda. That's knowing Agitha is in the game, so realistically, Saria (summoning animals) could be in the game, Ashei (who wears armor and carries a sword), the Yeti, and the 3 goddesses in their human forms (Din, Nayru and Farore) with an obvious slant towards elemental magic. At the top end, that's 14 additional playable characters with no villains. Without getting too obscure. In fact, I see no reason why each one of those characters couldn't appear. With the heroes Chubblings and I both listed, the roster would be 21 characters. How many want to be the final roster will be 18-22?
Bases Loaded wasn't bad, Ken Griffey and Roger Clemens were alright and Neo Geo (at the time) was overpriced. So my brother (who played AAA baseball) and I were head and shoulders into the RBI baseball games. Which, I can't lie, I loved.
Can we all agree that the Wii U NOT having a built in HDD wasn't the worst idea Nintendo has ever had? Honestly, if I read one more post from a person that both complains about not having a larger HDD AND that they refuse to buy digital games, I'm getting on a plane and kicking.. you know, you have one, we all have one. I invested in an external HDD and I'll tell you a story: my PS3 going down? HDD failure. My investment was in a drive I picked, to ensure quality. Gaming isn't cheap, gamers are cheap. But hey, spend a thousand dollars on games and lose 'em all. THEN criticize Nintendo for not giving us some small, cheaply made, overpriced storage base. I for one trust my HDD more than my Wii U and that's saying something.
Ocarina, Minish Cap, Wind Waker, Skyward Sword, Zelda 2, Twilight Princess, A Link to the Past: have completed at least one playthrough in each since Wii U released (in addition to 317 hours in other Wii RPGs, 30 hours in Earthbound and 28 hours in MH3). Always wanted to do a LTTP / OoT / Minish Cap / Twilight Princess charity marathon.
It's incredibly late to say this, but at this point, FIFA 15 on the 3DS would be more like FIFA 12.3 than 14.5. I hope Nintendo keeps EA's crap off Nintendo systems from here on out.
I guess I'm thinking back to the first AC. Prince of Persia was done and done. AC was new and fresh but still kind of PoP. Now, after 7 AC titles, it's become the new PoP, Rayman, Splinter Cell type annual occurrence. Like Call of Duty, Battlefield / MoH, EA / 2K sports games or (over the last 4 years) Mario. Then again, as far as consoles are concerned, Mario has had just 5 dedicated platformers these last 8 years and just 10 in the last 19 years. With the GBA / DS focusing on re-releases and RPGs, Marios platformers, over the last 23 years, total just 15 new titles. I can't include re-releases, because then I'd have to do the same for other system's franchises. Like 6 God of War titles and 5 re-releases / collections. Or 11 FF games, over a dozen spin-offs (not including Kingdom Hearts), 4 movies, close to a half dozen sequels and re-releases / collections. When it comes to the gaming industry, there truly seems to be little new under the sun. Which is why retro is so popular, Journey is so celebrated and photorealistic graphics are the only real trend.
I heard a story about Mr. Provinciano once, one I think is relevant to the 'self-indulgence' and oft-personal jabs he takes in RCR. The gist of the story was, said big wig's company was looking at distro for RCR, but said executive claimed '8-bit is dead and I want it to stay that way'. Provinciano, over 2 years in, took exception. When said company went on to lose tens of millions that year, Provinciano wrote the inside joke into the game as a 'jab'. As an aside, I find it funny that, when Ubisoft creates a brand new IP in Child of Light and it sells very well on the eShop they don't look at the situation logically and think that maybe it's time to retire some tired old franchises and try something new. We could just get something wonderful and unique. Or another garbage game.. like ZombiU.
Over the Wii version that is. Heck, I don't see why he couldn't sell a couple thousand copies. Higher definition, Gamepad w/ off TV play. I'd drop another 5$ to get it for Wii U as well.
Wii Shop's points, blocks, and difficulty organizing SD cards is a major reason I'd hoped Nintendo would allow late releases like RCR to be ported easily and freely to the eShop. I could almost guarantee he'd double his sales in a month on Wii U.
It's funny the kind of rumors spread on Miiverse. Here, with lines, I will share 3 of my favorite, ridiculous rumors. 1) Wii U is cancelled. 2) Miiverse is being shutdown at the end of July / this weekend / Juky 15. 3) A secret group of users will start reporting EVERY post. Which is hilarious that anyone would falsely report or even think that's something people should be afraid of. Miiverse, for the record (in all seriousness) will ban a person faster for falsely reporting than for being offensive.
From Nyamyam's description, I'd be shocked to see Tengami out this month, which likely means Teslagrad and Assault Android Cactus will be joining this in August, Pier Solar will drop this month and New N' Tasty will see eShop light around September.
Boring suggests this may not be the game for you. How many people on here have children? How many have paid 3-5$ for a simple storybook that can be read by any literate adult in 10-20 seconds? This game is the interactive adult version of that. It was never and will never be the run around, kill everything, high score fest you expect from video games. Because that isn't the point. I finished this title on my partner's iPhone in about 2 and a half hours. And I never felt shorted at the end. I wouldn't be surprised if dozens more games in the interactive storybook genre started popping up. I would be surprised if handfuls of speed obsessed gamers don't pop-up, bashing Tengami for its length.
Sensationalist 'news' outlet making sensationalist claims towards other sensationalist forms of entertainment? No!! Say it isn't true!! AHEM. The Sun is no better than tabloid trash. The same people who think Rhianna flashing a tit, Lady Gagging's downhill spiral, and nothing country music 'stars' divorcing as news has no traction for such brazen opinions.
The surprise from the 'core' Nintendo fans that this is coming to Wii U is hilarious. After Ninja Gaiden 3, Mad World, Red Steel, Bayonetta 2, No More Heroes and a host of hyper-sexualized 3DS games, this fits perfectly with Nintendo's something for everyone approach. Multiplayer trailers and 4 year old trailers aren't going to properly tell this game's story. So I'm marking this one 'wait and see'. Though, the Man With Iron Fists (RZA, Russel Crowe and Tarantino) meets Calendar Man (Batman villain) single player trailer seemed fun.
When a majority of older Zelda costumes are so incredibly simplistic, basing alternate outfits on newer, more detailed games makes sense. And Fi? She's the living embodiment of perhaps the greatest fictional weapon ever made. I get alot of people didn't like Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword. I'm not one of those people, but let's be serious, Wind Waker, Ocarina, A Link to the Past weren't known for their elborate character designs. Sure the manuals were great, but most of the game art was a simplistic as the controls on the original Gameboy. BORING. I like variety in these types of games. And it's obvious that's what we're getting. Another thing, aside from the primary characters, how many secondary characters (like Fi, Agitha, Groose) could really be pulled from anything pre-Twilight Princess? We have slots for Zoras, Gorons and Sheik, but aside from Saria, Talon and Malo (all terrible choices, in my honest opinion) who could possibly join? The newer games are really the only ones that provide unique enough characters in the art style the game utilizes. Midna: mount based combat. Link: sword, bow, equipment. Zelda: bow, magic. Fi: sword, magic. Agitha: equipment, summoning magic. Lana: magic, equipment. Sheik: sword, equipment. There's still room for air based combat, heavy style combat, hand to hand combat and elemental combat. The ones I mentioned earlier cover those bases nicely.
To those wondering about the selections on CN, come on guys! July is ALWAYS the worst. Nintendo wants the Gold / Platinum rewards to seem amazing in comparison. I think they're going to use this rewards season to try and help them reform physical items so there's more want and less waste. And the digital games are always a bit lacklustre for the exact same reason. Another thing.. the GC controller adapters are sorta already out there in the world. They actually work pretty well in Wii mode too. Ocarina of Time is honestly a bit of a mess with the Pro. For the N64 titles in particular, I bust out the GC controller, Wiimote and adapter. It's like night and day.
My predictions for the Gold / Platinum rewards this year: Zelda physical item (like the ones being offered with Hyrule Warriors or a music box, Nintendo likes to redo rewards) Mario Kart or SSB calendar or poster set Earthbound Wii U Super Mario 64 Wii Warioland 3DS (VC) maybe even the Zelda Oracle game(s) What I'd (realistically) like to see: Zelda scarf Mario Kart 8 diorama Double sided Smash Bros poster (heroes vs villains, boys vs girls, who knows) A selection of Wii U indie games A selection of VC games (if the have to be on both Wii and Wii U, then fine) My unrealistic / dream picks: Nintendo announces N64 and Gamecube VC, providing a full selection of titles Mario, Luigi or Peach Wiimote Wii U branded Classic Controller Pro Bayonetta 2 physical items and poster collection Toad Treasure Tracker full level diorama And why not, a pair of Vans slip-ons, with the old-school checkerboard design, complete with 8-bit SMB 3 graphics!
I kind of figured, despite the roaring opportunity E3 provides to give extra hype to a new release or drop a game right after E3, that no company would be ready to release anything so close to so many big announcements. Though, from what I've heard of late, Tengami, Armillo, Pier Solar HD and Teslagrad are in their 'gold master approval phase'. So, in addition to Shovel Knight, the next 5 weeks could have 5 high profile indies. I'm pulling for Assault Android Cactus for July 3rd, to christen our new home with some much needed multiplayer madness!
As an unrelated aside, I sure am glad I spent most of my Wii U gaming money on the digital frontier. No need to back things up as I've got it on an external HDD. Will really help with our move later this month. Gaming and entertainment room? Full size arcade cabinet? New desktop PC? She gets her garden, our son gets his playroom and I can't wait!
The game wouldn't be priced 40$ on the eShop just to placate the digital crowd. I see the retail version going for 65$ (like MK8) and the eShop version for 50$. I can find the first game for 10$ or less ANYWHERE. It's a better deal than just getting one game, but Nintendo wants to emphasize retail relations so that stores advertise all those big games, free them up some prime shelf space and realize there is a difference between Wii and Wii U.
And now is when the indies light a fire under people's butts by getting their games out there. Honestly, Ubisoft could start their little push now with their withhheld title, but that's not how they do things. We all saw the schedule. We all knew Nintendo had focused this quarter squarely on MK8. Early Wii boom sales slowed HD development but Nintendo seems to be getting in gear. I bought this system day one. Eight hours into that first day, my system was updated and I was enjoying Nintendoland's Pikmin attraction with my significant other. Since then, I've enjoyed a host of Wii games, something I passed on last generation, some great retail titles, a few average ones and a slew of eShop offerings. From Arkham City, Lego City Undercover and Super Mario 3D World to Little Inferno, Child of Light and Ittle Dew, it sure has been a tumultuous journey. But I'm just a gamer. With a young family and bigger responsibilities than 'When is X coming out?' or 'Why is there no Metroid?' Providing food, clothing and shelter are my only priorities. Gaming is a luxury, not just in money but in time spent. I have spent over 1200$ on gaming since the Wii U came out and not just on the Wii U. But I didn't choose Nintendo because they're cheaper. I chose them BECAUSE they have less options. With more options, I'd have to cut down my choices and I want to experience The Devil's Third, Hyrule Warriors, Zelda, Bayonetta, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Kirby and Yoshi. I love the classics and enjoy many indies. I just don't like having to wade through the garbage. If I'd had a PS3, maybe I would have purchased Lords of Shadow 2. Or Knack on the PS4. Or, hey, even Titanfall on the XB1. I'm just saying, with Nintendo, you know the primary games are coming. And you can always expect some surprises. That's all I'm looking for. People act like pro gamers, buying 2-3k$ sets to make their games react faster or super high end headphones and it's just so much. I hate gaming but I love games. I hate the fact that people get so involved with the business side of companies like it's their business but I love the passion. I hate that gaming follows trends and love when a new twist stirs things up. And I hate how the image on the screen has been trumped by what's in the box, but I still can't wait to see what's next. Whether open world, expansive and epic or a single screen showdown, bring it on!
So Hyrule Warriors is looking like the best Dynasty Warriors ever made, Zelda U stunning with what can only be desbribed as Suda 51 on Tengami, Skyward Sword, the Wind Waker and acid, and we've got the Devil's Third, clay Kirby, Bayonetta 2 (and 1), Yoshi's Wooly World, some interesting looking multiplayer (not to mention Mario Party 10), Wii U versions of Steamworld Dig, Mario vs DK and a spin-off starring lovable Toad. Oh, and some unreleased Ubisoft game, another Lego game and a bunch of stuff Wii U owners 'miss'. You know, the good stuff. A fourth game in the now tired Arkham series. Yearly reskinnings of testosterone addled sports games. Banal shooters. Emotionless, grey, ultra-violent, overtly sexual, plot free vehicles for facial animations, fire and water effects, destructible elements, frame counting and polygon pushers that view games as a way to judge the continuing evolution of PC architecture, nothing more. I see what I see, I say what I think and I think Nintendo could just right this ship after all.
Concept (though, I prefer storyline concepts): Two masks, one of light and one of dark. Link's journey would take place once as an 11 year old boy and again, in the same areas, 7 years later. Zelda would be a princess hiding in the village and unknown as a princess to the villagers. The villain would be a Wizzrobe who touched the Tri-Force and basically becomes a mix between Vaati and Zant. Ten items besides the sword and shield: boomerang, hookshot, bombs, bow and arrows, the two masks, an ocarina, some sort of magical staff and two brand new items. Your latern would be with you from the beginning but only serve as a light source, not as a game device. I would like to see some sort of plot line that shows Link is a descendant of the Sheikah.
I don't think this is a censorship thing. I think it's more like Earthbound in that it's easier to appeal to the tastes of the gaming audience with this look than the ponytails / midriff of the former. Face it, if men are showing midriff in the west, they're topless. But it's accepted and almost expected when concerning women. Were the character female, there would have been no changes to the outfit.
Tekken: 3D fighter that CANNOT be controlled by the analog stick. Arkham City: Great game in general, but much worse on Wii U. Assassin's Creed 3/4: A pretty strong port by Ubisoft. Lego City: Atrocious load times and pop-up detract from a genuinely engaging and welcome entry in the Lego Universe. Batman Lego 2: A long overdue port that sadly added nothing new. Need for Speed MW: Great game, great port, controls terribly on Wii U. ZombiU: Frustrating, banal combat, immersive yet muddied atmosphere, surprisingly low replay value. Despite playing as multiple characters, the random generator doesn't provide any real character development. Deus Ex HR: Two years past prime, it improves on every aspect of the original while still managing to feel tired and a bit stale. Ghosts: Great couch multiplayer, terrible online. It's Call of Duty. Rayman Legends: Great platforming, decent multiplayer, unnecessary rehash of Rayman Origins. New Super Mario Bros: HD reinvisioning of the Wii's NSMB with little improvements in multiplayer but really, it's Mario's first HD adventure. It animates well and looks wonderful. Zelda WW: Remastering of the original Gamecube masterpiece. A faster sail, a more streamlined experience and a harder difficulty. Wonderful 101: Great premise, lots of action, shallow character work, inane plot, somewhat non-responsive touch commands. Game and Wario: A chance to be creative and distinct is an exercise in charm and multiplayer, Gamepad focused mayhem. Nintendoland: The perfect introduction to Nintendo and the Gamepad. Some fun single player and a delightful, if limited, multiplayer outing. Super Mario 3D World: A beautifully crafted, smooth running entry into the emerging 2.5D Mario Universe. With more characters, hidden paths and unlockables than ever, it is truly a wonder to behold. Wii Party U: Tons of zany party games, seemingly crafted to emphasize Mii characters over the now exhausted Mario Party template. Darksiders 2: A buggy, yet entertaining vision of Zelda crossed with the Darkness. Pikmin 3: Throwing the Gamepad into the mix, the latest RTS from Nintendo, continuuing in the acclaimed Pikmin series of games. Donkey Kong Country TF: The HD return to DKC by Metroid Prime developer Retro Studios. A well animated, higly recommended platformer with a steep difficulty curve. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate: Seemingly an HD reskinning of the original MH3, this title is closer to Rayman Legends in that a host of new content has been added on top of the reworked visuals. NBA 2K13: A lovingly recreated basketball sim that improves, albeit slightly, on the coresponding title other systems received. Madden 13 / FIFA 13: Rehashed, updated versions of the '12 versions available elsewhere. Mass Effect 3: A more comprehensive single campaign experience, often unnecessarily chided due to the lack of both Mass Effect 1 & 2 on Wii U. (As a side note, I never remember Bioware claiming Mass Effect to be an episodic game that would would be either 'terrible' or 'woefully incomplete' should gamers not experience alll 3 60$ titles.) Arkham Origins: The shell of Arkham City, with no improvements to combat and retrograded voice acting, dialog, atmosphere and storyline. Ducktales (retail version): An HD reimagining of the NES classic, retaining the same great platforming and adding in full voice acting and cutscenes. New Super Luigi U (retail version): A standalone version of the DLC pack provided for NSMBU. A challenging, fast paced revisioning of many of NSMBUs levels, for about a third of the price.

Re: Best Buy Gearing Up For Enticing Buy One Get One Free 3DS Game Promotion
Mario Wiimote, Pro Controller.
The games would be tempting, I just need a new 3DS.
Shopper's Drug Mart, for the jealous Canadians, regularly discounts the 3DS / XL. 170$ was the discount of late.
Re: Feast Your Eyes On The Official Super Smash Bros. Screens for Robin, Lucina and Captain Falcon
Seeing Lucina and Robin in action, in HD, is spiking my interest in SMT x FE. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a Direct dedicated to that game around SSBU's release.
Amiibo looks even more expensive after this reveal!
Re: Sony's Shuhei Yoshida Says Nintendo Provides Balance In An Industry Obsessed With Military Shooters
Re: Sony's Shuhei Yoshida Says Nintendo Provides Balance In An Industry Obsessed With Military Shooters
If one were to question that statement, wondering if Goro has even a shred of his father's heart or head, you probably haven't watched From Up On Poppy Hill.
Re: Sony's Shuhei Yoshida Says Nintendo Provides Balance In An Industry Obsessed With Military Shooters
Re: Yo-Kai Watch 2 On Course For A Phenomenal Début Week of Sales in Japan
When both Pokemon and MH are so incredibly dominant, anything along those same lines blows up in Japan. It's a collector's obsession, one that is appropriately Japanese and exclusive to the country's reliance on space saving measures. When collecting hundreds of manga, dozens of figures and large consoles and their accompanying televisions isn't the best option, handhelds explode. Even adults see the draw in what can be a very cramped, crowded place.
Re: Poll: Which Is The Best Legend Of Zelda Game?
I also agree with many on here. While I can skew my opinion to objectively state what I believe to be the best Zelda and not just my favorite, many aren't taking that approach.
It also seems like alot of people haven't played certain Zelda titles, so that skews the poll that much further towards personal favoritism.
Re: Poll: Which Is The Best Legend Of Zelda Game?
I'd say my own personal Top 5 would be:
1) Twilight Princess (I like linear experiences with exploration reserved for side quests)
2) A Link Between Worlds (It does everything A Link to the Past does, but with a more realistically skewed world map, a better use of rupees and good progression)
3) A Link to the Past (The music, bosses and gameplay is even or better than ALBW and the storyline is classic)
4) Link's Awakening (Ganon isn't the boss, incredibly diverse gameplay, intuitive world exploration)
5) Ocarina of Time / 3D (Timeless story, streamlined character development, classic ending, great original music thct integrates into the gameplay)
Best Zelda?
A Link Between Worlds.
It takes A Link to the Past and improves on it in every way.
I love all 5 of these and many more Zelda titles and many do not enjoy Twilight Princess, but like Mario, not everyone agrees that the first (3D Zelda in this case) was the best.
Heck, I enjoyed NSMBU more so than either Mario 1 or 2, so what does that say?
Re: It Doesn't Look Like We'll Be Seing Sega Games On The Wii U Virtual Console Any Time Soon
Re: It Doesn't Look Like We'll Be Seing Sega Games On The Wii U Virtual Console Any Time Soon
Re: New Fighter for Super Smash Bros. to be Revealed on 14th July
Re: New Fighter for Super Smash Bros. to be Revealed on 14th July
Re: New Fighter for Super Smash Bros. to be Revealed on 14th July
Re: Review: One Piece Unlimited World Red (Wii U)
Re: Review: One Piece Unlimited World Red (Wii U)
5 points to make:
1) It's a port from Japan, complete with recent storylines that haven't been dubbed, licensed or even casted yet. (hence the games subtitles)
2) At 650 plus episodes and 700 plus chapters, redoing events covered in earlier games would be a bit of a waste. (hence the lack of background provided)
3) Features events and storylines that detail and intimate on spoilers to those who refuse to watch subtitled anime. (so detailing the lack of dub is essential for Bandai Namco)
4) Is an anime game.
Re: CoroCoro Magazine Shows the Pokédex and More for Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire
Re: It Doesn't Look Like We'll Be Seing Sega Games On The Wii U Virtual Console Any Time Soon
Re: It Doesn't Look Like We'll Be Seing Sega Games On The Wii U Virtual Console Any Time Soon
Re: Wii U Version Of Project CARS Drops To The Back Of The Starting Grid
So, because they can't make it to market before the end of August (with no games scheduled) and who wants to compete with Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Amiibo, Hyrule Warriors, Toad's first starring role, Smash Bros, Lego Batman in space and Bayonetta 2? Delaying the game until, say, February is smart. That way people will have money to buy it.
Heck, when you think about all the great idie games still to come this year on Wii U, waiting for the holiday season to bolster their audience is smart.
Re: New Fighter for Super Smash Bros. to be Revealed on 14th July
Square Enix games finally start showing up on the Wii U VC. As a direct response, the new character is.. Chrono!! And an HD remake of Chrono Trigger is announced, exclusive to the Wii U!!
That or Mallow. Come on, the little puff puff deserves a slot
Re: Nintendo Download: 10th July (North America)
I enjoy horror, games like Myst, D and the price seems worth having a unique experience.
Puddle was a 10$ game I wish I could have paid 2$ for.
I've only played AC3 for 3 or 4 hours. Last Assassin's Creed I'll ever play.
Point is, a great looking game isn't always worth the price and a mediocre looking one could be fun for a few hours.
Re: Nintendo Download: 10th July (North America)
@daveh30
Yeah, it seems to be iTunes all over again.
Which is ridiculous. I don't get why digital distribution for a single territory has to be so seperated.
Re: Nintendo Download: 10th July (North America)
Maybe the Letter was delayed, is US only or not available until tomorrow or Tuesday.
As of now, it still isn't available here in Canada.
Re: Nintendo Download: 10th July (North America)
Obviously, some games are earlier if not instant purchases, but alot of stuff is getting tired. So I wait for sales for what often feels like double dipping (Hey ACIV!)
Re: Nintendo Download: 10th July (North America)
One Piece, super cheap Injustice, Armillo, Guacamelee, dirt cheap the Letter. And I still haven't bit on my own copies of Knytt Underground, Unepic, Rayman Legends, Sonic the Lost World, Wonderful 101 or Deus Ex: HR yet either. Games are becoming cheaper and thus, much more attractive.
Re: New Official Hyrule Warriors Screens Show Off Fi, Ghirahim, Skyward Sword Stages and More
@Chubblings I could rattle off at least 8 more characters that COULD be playable, aren't villains and debunk your theory.
Re: Review: Bases Loaded (Wii Virtual Console / NES)
Bases Loaded wasn't bad, Ken Griffey and Roger Clemens were alright and Neo Geo (at the time) was overpriced. So my brother (who played AAA baseball) and I were head and shoulders into the RBI baseball games. Which, I can't lie, I loved.
Re: 3DS On Top As Wii U Remains Highest Selling Home Console in Japan
Re: The Zeldathon Adventure Kicks Off This Week To Raise a Whole Lot of Rupees
Ocarina, Minish Cap, Wind Waker, Skyward Sword, Zelda 2, Twilight Princess, A Link to the Past: have completed at least one playthrough in each since Wii U released (in addition to 317 hours in other Wii RPGs, 30 hours in Earthbound and 28 hours in MH3). Always wanted to do a LTTP / OoT / Minish Cap / Twilight Princess charity marathon.
Re: FIFA 14 on 3DS is Officially Just a Kit and Roster Update
It's incredibly late to say this, but at this point, FIFA 15 on the 3DS would be more like FIFA 12.3 than 14.5.
I hope Nintendo keeps EA's crap off Nintendo systems from here on out.
Re: Review: Retro City Rampage (WiiWare)
Re: Review: Retro City Rampage (WiiWare)
Re: This Retro City Rampage Map Should Be Handy If You Get Lost
Over the Wii version that is.
Heck, I don't see why he couldn't sell a couple thousand copies.
Higher definition, Gamepad w/ off TV play. I'd drop another 5$ to get it for Wii U as well.
Re: This Retro City Rampage Map Should Be Handy If You Get Lost
Wii Shop's points, blocks, and difficulty organizing SD cards is a major reason I'd hoped Nintendo would allow late releases like RCR to be ported easily and freely to the eShop.
I could almost guarantee he'd double his sales in a month on Wii U.
Re: Miiverse Update Allows You To List Favourite Game Genres and Add Lines To Posts
Re: The Wii U Version Of Tengami Is Complete, Age Ratings And Lot Check Still Pending
From Nyamyam's description, I'd be shocked to see Tengami out this month, which likely means Teslagrad and Assault Android Cactus will be joining this in August, Pier Solar will drop this month and New N' Tasty will see eShop light around September.
Re: The Wii U Version Of Tengami Is Complete, Age Ratings And Lot Check Still Pending
Re: British Tabloid The Sun Brands Gaming "As Addictive As Heroin"
Sensationalist 'news' outlet making sensationalist claims towards other sensationalist forms of entertainment?
No!! Say it isn't true!!
AHEM.
The Sun is no better than tabloid trash. The same people who think Rhianna flashing a tit, Lady Gagging's downhill spiral, and nothing country music 'stars' divorcing as news has no traction for such brazen opinions.
Re: Tomonubu Itagaki Thinks Gamers Will Buy A Wii U Just For Devil’s Third
Re: Fi Confirmed For Hyrule Warriors Along With Skyward Sword Costumes For Link And Zelda
Re: The Club Nintendo Rewards Are Now Updated for July
Re: The Club Nintendo Rewards Are Now Updated for July
My predictions for the Gold / Platinum rewards this year:
Zelda physical item (like the ones being offered with Hyrule Warriors or a music box, Nintendo likes to redo rewards)
Mario Kart or SSB calendar or poster set
Earthbound Wii U
Super Mario 64 Wii
Warioland 3DS (VC) maybe even the Zelda Oracle game(s)
What I'd (realistically) like to see:
Zelda scarf
Mario Kart 8 diorama
Double sided Smash Bros poster (heroes vs villains, boys vs girls, who knows)
A selection of Wii U indie games
A selection of VC games (if the have to be on both Wii and Wii U, then fine)
My unrealistic / dream picks:
Nintendo announces N64 and Gamecube VC, providing a full selection of titles
Mario, Luigi or Peach Wiimote
Wii U branded Classic Controller Pro
Bayonetta 2 physical items and poster collection
Toad Treasure Tracker full level diorama
And why not, a pair of Vans slip-ons, with the old-school checkerboard design, complete with 8-bit SMB 3 graphics!
Re: Nintendo Download: 12th June (North America)
I kind of figured, despite the roaring opportunity E3 provides to give extra hype to a new release or drop a game right after E3, that no company would be ready to release anything so close to so many big announcements.
Though, from what I've heard of late, Tengami, Armillo, Pier Solar HD and Teslagrad are in their 'gold master approval phase'. So, in addition to Shovel Knight, the next 5 weeks could have 5 high profile indies. I'm pulling for Assault Android Cactus for July 3rd, to christen our new home with some much needed multiplayer madness!
Re: E3 2014: Wii U eShop Version of Bayonetta 2 Does Not Come with the First Game
Re: E3 2014: Wii U eShop Version of Bayonetta 2 Does Not Come with the First Game
Re: E3 2014: Nintendo Life's E3 Reaction - Live!
With a young family and bigger responsibilities than 'When is X coming out?' or 'Why is there no Metroid?'
Providing food, clothing and shelter are my only priorities.
Re: E3 2014: Bayonetta 2 Comes With The Original Game, As Well As Link And Samus Costumes
Re: Talking Point: The Legend of Zelda on Wii U Can Wear Many Masks
Re: Subtle Character Design Changes Spotted for North American Version of Azure Striker Gunvolt
Re: Feature: Our Top 10 Wii U Retail Games - Summer 2014
(As a side note, I never remember Bioware claiming Mass Effect to be an episodic game that would would be either 'terrible' or 'woefully incomplete' should gamers not experience alll 3 60$ titles.)
Arkham Origins: The shell of Arkham City, with no improvements to combat and retrograded voice acting, dialog, atmosphere and storyline.
