Final Fantasy 7 is her favorite game of all time? I just replayed FFVII to make sure I did't remember it wrong. Nope. Truly, the first of the sub par FFs. After 8, 11, 12, 13 and 14, I'm surprised Square would continue making such mediocre games. Even X is fairly overrated and further demerited by its atrocious sequel. One and two were decent introductions to the series, two in particular built toward quite the epic. Three through six are four of the best RPGs of all time. I'd say it's the series the best compares chronologically to console Zelda (NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii). One and two were pretty good. Three, four, five and six were great. Seven was overrated. Eight was lauded by the romanticists but really, fell short in the end. Mostly due to linearity, excessive cutscenes, forced romanticism, inane combat and poorly structured characters. In fact, eight was EXACTLY the same for both games. I don't mind Taylor's stuff, but it's hard to take her seriously sometimes. That and she's basically pigeonholed herself by doing so much gaming music. And even though gaming music is diverse and varied, her selections are not. Good thing she's kinda cute..
Like Megaman meets Ducktales and the cinematics are quite wonderful. Played two levels as a precursor to a full review and can confidently say: this is better than Ducktales and the best 8-bit throwback since MM9.
Two things about Sony's PS3 I want to point out for all those bashing the Wii U and the NNID: one, to pair a Dualshock 3 controller with a Vita, you have to go on to the PS3 in order to make the pairing. Two, PS3s CANNOT be taken off the authenticated systems through any means beside that PS3. Aka, if your PS3 goes down, it's the same as with the Wii U. If however Nintendo decides that a defective Wii U must be replaced, Nintendo will assist you in deactivating that Wii U. Cross buy is always going to be a sticking point, but alot of 3DS gamers don't own Wii Us and vice versa. Meanwhile, Sony still limits the number of systems that can be activated simultaneously, a move which still sees console manufacturers behind Apple in that respect. I might rail on the Wii U... alot, but I do see some positivity in Nintendo's 6th home console (not including the stationary Virtual Boy).
Oh and while European gamers have access to a plethora of great 'free' games to pick from for the Club Nintendo offer, the NA selection is TERRIBLE. Wii Party U is Nintendo brand shovelware and anyone who doesn't have the other 3 either doesn't want them or just got a Wii U. Myself, I own all 3. So don't go throwing the 'but you get a free game' garbage out there. For long term NA Wii U owners, the deal isn't worth, due to the extremely uninspired selection. No Sonic, no MH3 and no Wonderful 101? No buy, please understand.
System seller? Really? Until there is a confirmed number of systems sold, I refuse to believe MK8 is a 'system seller'. Super Mario 3D World. Donkey Knog Country Tropical Freeze. Lego City Undercover. Pikmin 3. X. Even Smash Bros. But Mario Kart? 1.2 million games sold is still failing. If Nintendo hasn't pushed 4 million copies by year's end, I'm expecting another price cut and more discontinuations. Seriously, that's not even close to 100 million in sales. The Wii U was damned from the get go by influential 3rd party publishers and has never and will never recover.
And let's face it, next week those numbers will plummet. To the tune of a 500-600% drop-off. Nintendo might get better numbers in Japan / NTSC regions and they might even stick around for a few weeks, but 666% for a region that barely acknowledges the console even exists? Flash in the pan. Until Smash, Euro gamers are going to be pushing Wii U back under the rug. It's a graphics market where only football sims have the chance to break the FPS / GTA barrier.
So then the Wii U sold what, 666 systems? Considering how terribly the system is doing in PAL regions, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it only sold 1 system last sales term. I'm only half joking.
@dustin_g Not until sometime (probably 4-6 months) after E3. With the Wii U's embarrassingly low install base, I wouldn't be surprised if this game were delayed indefinitely on Wii U.
And now it's June. Every single indie is taking forever to release and suffering innumerable delays. This was supposed to come out in December. Then March. Then April. Two months later and I'm wondering: Is it cancelled..? Hyper Light Drifter. Delayed from 'maybe June' until 'around Christmas'. Tengami. Soundtrack's out now. The game? Who knows. Scram Kitty made it, but it took months of delays. Armillo was planned for a February release. Not out yet. Wooden Sen Sey, Assault Android Cactus and Teslagrad haven't really been given release windows, though I've heard 'soon' and 'a few weeks delay' in a few cases. If indies got their act together, they wouldn't be competing with Mario Kart 8. They'd have made their impact already. Or maybe.. MAYBE all the delays have been because the install base is so stupidly low that these devs have been waiting for MK8 to turn things around. Whatever the case, I'm starting to genuinely lose interest, especially after lacklustre games like Puddle, Toki Tori 2, Edge, Crashmo, Scram Kitty and the obnoxiously buggy Ittle Dew. Aside from Child of Light (which isn't an indie at all) the eShop seems to being getting more filler and less thrillers. When talking about the below average Wii U and it's tacked on Gamepad, that's (surprisingly) still saying something.
Really, what I want from Nicalis is a mix between Grinsia and Cave Story. Or, more accurately, a mix of Phantasy Star 3 and Super Castlevania IV. Great platforming, an easy to access yet tough to master battle system, RPG elements with a bit of customization and a sci-fi / Victorian steam punk setting. I love the intricacy of JRPGs and all the little details that really bring the world to life. I know of games that are like what I've described, but that's what I'd like to see more of: action RPGs with more action and more RPG.
The part in the ice dungeon where you have to split your clones and run through the maze ofblocks is the most rage inducing thing I've experienced in a handheld Zelda. EVER. The first time I ever got it, it took 6 tries. The fact that your ethereal clones are vaporized just by touching the blocks makes things very tricky indeed. Fusing Kinstones was fun but so were some of the new items and mechanics. The Gust Jar and Mole Mitts in particular were alot of fun.
Should these deals be available in NA, I'd be skipping MK8 and Gravity Badgers and finally picking up Injustice and RE: Revelations on top of Minish Cap. Regardless, I'll be getting at least 2 games (3 with the discount, 2 with Gravity Badgers if no discounts). I traded an NES GBA SP with Minish Cap, Superstar Saga, Mario Advance 1 and 3, Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission for a 600$, reversed blade katana, a 40 year old sword made by an 7th generation swordsmith. Needless to say, I still have the sword, love Rurouni Kenshin and miss that GBA SP fiercely. It took me four tries to beat Vaati and close to 60 hearts to beat his castle, but that game stands as my favorite GBA game of all time. It's a phenomenal action RPG and the perfect precursor to a round of A Link Between Worlds. Sometimes Nintendo loses when they give others control of their titles, but as Squaresoft, Capcom, Rare and Retro have shown, sometimes it's best to trust a great developer to make a great game. Personally, I'd love a Nintendo RPG game, in the vein of the original Mario RPG with character models by Square Enix (they do some great character modelling), story by Atlus' Persona guys, cutscenes and script by Working Designs (or whoever the main guys from that team work under now) and gameplay by Monolith / Working Designs. Just one big collage of awesome by the virtue of teamwork!
As the proud owner of both MS7 and Anthology, I can happily attest to many of the reviewer's points. What I'd like to see now is the 9th official game to drop on the eShop and other digital console markets. A fully HD, over the top tribute to the game and its fans. It's honestly been one of my most requested games, since Wii U was announced, actually.
I think that alot of studios weren't prepared for HD (either members of one studio that went to form new studios ala Yacht Club and lost assets or simply never worked in HD before). Nintendo specific studios in particular seemed hard pressed to make release dates and it's obvious that HD has effected development times. Even on the other systems, game development is much longer than PS2, the original Xbox, the Gamecube and the Wii. It seemed that only the games for Wii that looked close to HD took longer than 2 years to create. I think Nintendo was smart, balancing the longer dev times with the quick turnaround possible with Unity. Now that sites like Nintendo Life, IGN, Gamespot and Game Informer take digital game reviews as seriously as physical copies, it's easier to avoid the sludgy, trashy mess that plagued the Wii's first 3 years. 8 years ago, my top ten most anticipated list wouldn't have included 6 indies, but here we are.
As an appendix, I don't see Capcom selling off Mega Man. So I think a better bet (suggested by an earlier point) is Nintendo should acquire Treasure. Sega has Atlus and they're letting Atlus work, business as usual. With Treasure on their team, a 2D Metroid, new Star Fox (imagine a top down Star Fox, 15-20$ on the eShop! Or how about a completely remade Star Fox 64 for 30$ on the 3DS?) and even a new Gunstar game would be possible. In addition, Nintendo would have unfettered access to Treasure's entire back catalog. I'd love a new S&P in HD and a 3D take on Radiant Silvergun or Bangai-oh? Really, it'd be a win-win situation for both parties. Treasure's income is laced directly into the big N's considerable cash reserve and Nintendo gains a group of the shoot-em-up genres best minds. With so much 2D gaming experience, Nintendo could once again claim the title of platform king.
Capcom is only interested in Mega Man as a 'legends property'. Meaning? You know how, people say 'Sega needs something other than Sonic' (despite the fact they have a steady PC market, Yakuza, Atlus as a subsidary, Shinobi, Alex Kid, Toe Jam and Earl, Jet Grind Radio, Golden Axe, the Shining series, Altered Beast, Shenmue and Streets of Rage) or 'Nintendo needs more than Mario / Zelda / DK' (despite the fact they have F Zero, Metroid, Golden Sun, Star Fox, the everyone-in-one Smash Bros, and 3rd party series that are ALWAYS on Nintendo platforms: Fire Emblem and Sin and Punishment))? These are brands that defy generational convention. As in, it doesn't really matter what system they're on or what dimension they're in, they're part of the brand. Mega Man isn't about going forward, not for Capcom. This is a company who, like Konami, only wants to move towards super HD, super realistic games. The idea of a retro, modern indie game is one lost on Capcom. Konami's own 'Rebirth' stage has passed and we'll likely never see something like that from them again. Really, the only hope we have is the cheaper, digital only scene and without Inafune, Capcom's Mega Man phase has passed. He'll cameo in the Vs Capcom games, the Smash Bros. and you might even see costumes and random appearances in various other Capcom titles. So, because Retro Mega Man is seemingly out and Legends 3 is dead, here's my proposed game: 3rd person action platformer featuring the anime style of the later X's cutscenes and digital world levels based on the Battle Network games. The story: a young boy (or girl), living about 100 years in the future, battles viruses in the digital space using a Mega Man avatar. One day, a powerful virus breaks free (think Smith's escape in the Matrix) and suddenly, the avatars are able to manifest in the real world. I like the idea of levelling your character(s) via either typical battling or being augmented with salvaged parts. Unlike Xenoblade's gem system, you'd be limited to one elemental type, but other stats could be increased to make up for new vulnerabilities. I'm not sure about the title, maybe something like 'Mega Man Battle Network: Escape', 'Mega Man Transition', or 'Mega Man VR'. The VR would be Capcom's answer to the VR craze, to let people know of the crossover appeal between MM and the Battle Network series and to possibly set-up a cleaner transition to a first person MM. To that end, if Capcom did ship off MM to Nintendo (where Inafune could get Legends 3 made), I think Retro could make a genre defining 1st person Mega Man.
If anyone thinks he sounds arrogant, consider this: for around 30 years, all he's known is gaming. Gaming is his world. Gaming is everything to Triforce. I know. I met him at the NDS event. He's a professional gamer who doesn't play for second best. He plays to win. He wants to dominate, winning every time he picks up the controller. So he's not going to start second guessing himself. But if you read between the lines, he IS humble. Throughout this interview, Triforce is building his teammates. It's clear he cares alot about them and would rather focus on their accomplishments. When he talks about himself, he's simply being honest.
I'm not a fan, but this is on my Wii U so my uncle can play it. He hasn't been into gaming since the SNES (he had close to 100 games for that, so he's a bit of a buff) but the German voice option was a pretty big selling point. I also couldn't argue, as he's only here every week or so to see his nephew, added 20$ to my eShop balance (so my Link to the Past, Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3 upgrades are paid for) and only stays for a few hours. The kid loves watching him game too, sits in a car seat, darting from the TV to my uncle and back. It's pretty funny, as he's usually pretty vocal, but when my uncle's here to game, my son's like a mute mouse!
I'm sick of waiting for SMB3. It's ridiculous that it's still not out yet. Best 2D Mario and by a fair amount, even over the still rather stellar SMW. To this day, I can't fathom how Nintendo was able to get the game to run on the Famicom!
If Dark Souls 2 moved over a quarter million units, it's not too likely MGS is going to help move PS4s. It is likely though that MGS will sell. After reading Koji Igarashi's take on Mighty No. 9, it doesn't inspire much confidence in Konami's future releases. As in, considering how terribly mediocre the last Castlevania was, Konami's back to the drawing board for me. Until they really do something spectacular, there's no getting excited for their new releases, not for me anyways.
Quoting humble bundles is also rather asinine. Really, someone pulling in over 20k a year can only afford to spend 5$ on a game? Please. Most people's monthly cell phone bill is 10-15x that amount. When we're talking about how few games there are to purchase (one decent game, two good ones and one great one per month is more than enough TV time for anyone..) and how little money people have for gaming, it makes me wonder if people are consumer junkies, cheap or just ignorant.
I find it ironic how many people complain about console indie prices then site issues of price and release dates. PC games, often the day they come out, are available on torrent websites. Limbo, for instance, was being pirated the weekend it came out. When a developer doesn't have to worry about people screwing them over (on consoles), the price will likely be higher. Resources get tweaked here and there and licensing fees are always applicable. Also consider how the game is made. Even if it is a Wii U exclusive, the game is mostly done with PCs. If it's already done for PC, why wait to tweak the game for Wii U? Simple: no piracy on Wii U, so every person that plays the game on a console is money in their pockets, vs the PC crowd which is rife with illegally obtained software.
Idea to refresh Yoshi AND move the series away from Mario (as I found the N64 game to be quite fantastic): Yoshi Lost In Dreamland. You could have a Kirby game and a Yoshi game in one! The twist? A new world where the populace has been invaded by killer foods! A veggie zone, a fruit zone, a bakery zone and a candy zone before the final encounter: a truly warped version of Deedee's palace where a brand new antagonist waits with his minions. I'm thinking, action platformer, multiple guest appearances from Kirby and 40-60 levels. There'd be plenty of secret paths and hidden items. Maybe even some sort of weird 'the Mushroom Kingdom is being replaced by Dreamland' storyline. Anything to make these games fresh and fun again!
Wii VC games don't give coins on Wii U. Wii Mini looked great (the sleek red coupled with the rough black and those gorgeous accessories!) but the missing Wi Fi didn't put me off as much as the lack of GC support. I've got my old purple box (4 controllers, S-video and a spare box) and twice as many 'cube games as Wii U and Wii combined. And I'm always looking for more 'cube titles! Baten Kaitos 2 and a fresh copy of Fire Emblem would be nice, as would a copy of Skies of Arcadia.
I find the question simple enough to explain away: men have not been vocal about the way men are portrayed in such media. Men and women have BOTH been vocal about how women have been portrayed. The advertising shows this true: stylish, covered men on cover art.. shirtless and half naked within. It's a problem for the critics on the other side of things as there is no hiding how women are or will be portrayed. Female sexuality, not sex in general, sells. And it sells EVERYTHING. From Go Daddy and 70% of car enthusiast magazines to video games, anime, movies and clothing, it's all a parade of female sexuality. And honestly, that's not my biggest concern. By biggest concern is the vulnerable, submissive take the entertainment industry has put on things. Not only does it seem to suggest and promote sex but to encourage rape culture. Let's face facts: 99% of people are intelligent, socially responsible, moderately respectful beings. But for the 1% that twists things to their reality, rape and sexual assault are very real consequences of encouraging the desensitization towards nudity and sexuality. These kinds of media might be 'only kidding around', but they're not conducting anything positive in the vein of truly opening us up to greater acceptance of nudity or sexuality. Desensitization: bad Acceptance: good
Fighting, platforming and seek quests killed Infamous for me. The hour long full trial on PS+ confirmed it: cool concept, decent storyline, somewhat interesting characters and horrible execution. I'd take Mario I can play over Infamous I can watch any day, and Mario's definitely not my favorite game. It's just impossible not to enjoy.
Two huge pieces of anime related news: in addition to Europe / Australia getting physical copies, the 3DS will be getting a physical copy in the Americas as well! And, in non-Nintendo news (but still anime related) Otomo's Short Peace anthology will release, this spring, in many territories! If you've yet to partake in Akira, do so now. When you're done, join me in anticipating this collection Proof positive, ladies and gentlemen, the PS3 still has devs making better games than for the PS4.
As a fan of Bit Trip that likes to support small teams and indies in general, definitely picking this up at 2$. For anyone on the fence, Runner 2 is on the cheap now. For less than 8$, you can get the game and the DLC character pack. I'll still like running best as the svelte Commandervideo Girl, but that's just me
After how much I enjoyed Zen Pinball 2, I have to say it.. Star Wars Pinball (even for a pinball game) is mostly a cluttered mess. The Clone Wars table and Boba Fett's table are perhaps the worst offenders. It's not to say they're not fun, but in comparison to most Zen tables, they're dim and unfocused. So though I jumped on Castlestorm's DLC asap, I had to pass on SWP's DLC. It's just a shame Nintendo couldn't have pushed Mario 3 sooner than this.. As a side note, maybe @ThomasBW84 can help with this, but I've seen Citizen of Earth listed for today in North America. That's probably not accurate, is it?
I suppose, in retrospect, DID have more than one console would have been more appropriate, but it's kind of beside the point. A fanboy follows certain trends because he or she is too weak to show deviation. You hype the Last of Us without acknowledging any of it's flaws for that exact same reason, so stop preaching and start reasoning.
Hey @Peek-a-boo , some of us, like you, do have more than one system. And have played The Last of Us. And did not enjoy it. I had an Xbox 360, but after two RRODs, I got rid of it. I also had a PS3. Until MGSIV and TLOU killed my interest in it. I probably would have liked the storyline, but I only managed to get 4 hours in. Then the game sat in my PS3 until October while I played The Wonderful 101, MH3, Lego City Undercover and Pikmin 3. My gf then asked 'why do you have two of those?' I chose not to correct her and simply got rid of the PS3. Some guy offered me $100 for the system and that game and well, here we are now. Were I to have finished the game, I doubt I'd ever want to play it again. Like, how seeing graphic rape in cinema doesn't make me watch a particular movie a second time, the Last of Us isn't a game I'd want to play a second time. And surprise! Alot of critics that gave it GOTY awards said the same thing. The storyline may be fondly remembered, it just won't inspire another playthrough. And if you enjoyed the things you did in the game, then any conversation to be had is done.
I'm not so sure stock shortages are entirely the reason why the PS4's numbers keep dropping. Outside of Knack (a subpar attempt at a Rachet and Clank / Mario / Banjo and Kazooie style experience) there isn't anything that sells overly well in Japan. Tomb Raider re-release? Battlefield 4? I'm with the aforementioned mindset: Japan doesn't give a dime for super HD. Especially not in the console market. I mean, it's not even a handheld market now. It's a handheld society. EVERYTHING that does well in Japan is portable now. Cell phones, manga, gaming systems.. Even smaller laptops are coming on strong. I can't imagine Microsoft shipping more than a few thousand consoles for the Xbox One. They've no Japanese presence. At all.
@rtr0GMR1 I'm stoked for it for the following reasons: It's not a retro game in the sense it's limited by it's tech, but rather all the cool layering and personality the devs have crammed in in spite of the 'old school' aesthetic. It's done by guys that had their fingers all over the Shantae series and would have helped make Mighty Switch Force even better. It's a company whose members have plenty of history with and love for Nintendo platforms. And it's a crazy combination of Castlevania and Ducktales, two of 8-bits best offerings. I'm personally more excited by Pier Solar and finally playing a game I logged over 30 hours in in HD and Tengami, a game whose art style won me over instantly.
It's garbage Nintendo Life feels the desire to flame these articles, airing every little thing EA does, but I'll say this: the article reads 'We think VR can make alot of money and we like money. People are tired of current gaming (despite the PS4's immediate successes) and now we want to do something we THINK will make us boatloads of cash'. For give me for saying this, but both Sony and MS were 110% behind 3D console games, Hollywood was 110% behind 3D home movies and now it's become a total niche. Add 400$ to that sticker price and get a dedicated 3D tv and pay 25% more for 3D Blu-ray discs. No thanks. Nintendo succeeds with 3DS, month after month outselling their competition and so the tv big wigs say 'Nintendo's doing it? Screw it then, it's not cool enough for our 18-35 year olds who old want to see sex, drugs and gore!' VR is a consumer unfriendly invention (like most 3D applications) that is far too limiting in scope. A technology that (contrary to advice from talking heads) is still very much in it's infancy. Rushing this kind of thing would (not could) would lead to physical trauma in enough players not to push things. Virtual big screen glasses? Fad. VR helmets? Fad. It's all just corporate brainstorming and nerdy guys going 'Look, now you're Link / Samus / Drake / Lara! Isn't that cool?' Gaming has come away from dingy basements, Doritos encrusted hoodies, sweat stained t-shirts, Mom's house, loners on a Friday with no life, boy's clubs, man-child online fantasy sessions and sexless deviants. Let's not make gaming an anti-social doldrum again. Let's stay away from that isolationism and seclusion. Does the idea of a fully realized digital self, fully immersed in the game world sound appealing? It would be cool to actually be Link / a Skyrim character, yes. For an hour here or there. But not an all encompassing, secluded romp where the only human interactions are performed over fibrous cables from over miles of wires. It's a sad future and one I can't be a part of, not if that's what gaming becomes. Optional VR sounds great, but I'm sticking to my bread and butter basic tv, thanks.
It'd be pretty cool if the Nintendo one had used coin shaped notes and the Zelda one rupee notes. Jail could have been the Gerudo fortress. Play as Ganon, Yoshi, Wario, Zero Suit Samus or Zelda? So many possibilities to make it truly unique and authetic, but Monopoly is always the same crap. And it always ends the same way: everyone but the most intent quits. It should carry on for just so long, with time limits or something.. At least games like Connect 4 and Sorry end. Maybe that's what Nintendo needs! Mario Kart Sorry! Each player would have a blue shell, a red shell and a star in addition to their character. Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser with a Mushroom kingdom track for the board. Bowser would be the 'one' and that's what you'd need to start your piece. Do it, do it now!
New collection? Sure. But this time, ALL of the X series is older and up for grabs. 9 and 10 should be included with 1-8. Make Legends available in some form. Let Street Fighter's anniversary collection have shown you something and include some cool stuff. Like maybe the Battle Network / anime series. How about a feature length film in the set? Or simply a full set of all the animated portions? Could do keychains or figures, posters or comics. Heck, could even throw in artbooks, walkthroughs or commentaries! I'd love a brand new Megaman, a brand new Megaman X or even a brand new Megaman RPG with HD graphics, sideview battles, tons of collectibles, good voice acting and dedicated animated sequences. Megaman isn't dead Capcom, you guys just think he's on lifesupport. WRONG! He sneaks out his window and goes bustin' every night! Been doing it for years!
Funny.. Wii had a bunch of crappy, hour long, motion heavy games and a hint of indie greatness. And people complained and hated it. Wii U has tons of passionate developers, releasing the 'core' style games (by gamers, for gamers) that people said the Wii was missing and people KEEP complaining. I didn't buy a Wii because a) paying to play Twilight Princess or RE4 a second time was a stupid idea b) motion controls and c) no dedicated old school RPGs. Wii U is a treasure trove for real console gamers, games that still feel right on consoles. Steam's great for cheap gamers, but I'm just not cheap enough to think Steam is replacing the tried and true experience. Like holding dedicated hardware, opening a real box, leafing through an instruction booklet.. It's the magic of a new game. AAA titles are all fine and well if that's your thing, but I never asked for Thief, another Metal Gear Solid, another Tomb Raider Reboot or a FFXIII sequel. Though after playing Galaxy 2 3 years ago, I was more than ready for another zany 3D Mario game. And DKC. They're magic, hearkening back to a happier time in human history while remaining completely timeless. Pier Solar is a wonderful game and should be experienced by every gamer worth their salt.
I remember this game looking much more inspired by Yoshitaka Amano's flowing art and if this is the final form, I find it to be rather underwhelming. Basically, it's a serious Rayman with new characters. Tried and true, Ubisoft is nothing if not predictable.
No Zelda at launch, but Darksider 2 was. Why is this significant? Darksiders 2 has one of the worst offscreen inventory systems. It's cluttered and requires a paused game. Unless you play on the Wii U. Like the Zeldas to follow (including Wind Waker HD), the inventory is easiest to manage on the Gamepad. I remember thanking the gaming gods when I could play OoT on 3DS without having to pause everytime I wanted to switch my boots. And in the adult temples (Water, Fire and Sppirit especially) it's a life saver. Wii Party U, Wario, Nintendoland, Madden 13, Mass Effect 3, and Bumpie's Party all made smart use of the Gamepad, Call of Duty added a rather fun option for local multiplayer and Rayman Legends, Wonderful 101, Trine 2, Little Inferno and many others utilize the touch screen as a legitimate input. It's easy to see flaws when a dev wants to make excuses as to why they won't make games for said system, but he's picking at some pretty short straws here. Voice control Kinect is great for movies and the Dualshock 4's gesture pad is good for Vita-esque experiences, they just seem so niche. I would never want voice controlled games or for gesture gaming to take off as neither sounds appealing to me. Maybe I'm happy Nintendo's moved away from motion gaming, but the Gamepad isn't what's really holding the system back. As a side note, I do wish Nintendo would have kept the analog sticks they originally showcased.

Like Megaman meets Ducktales and the cinematics are quite wonderful. Played two levels as a precursor to a full review and can confidently say: this is better than Ducktales and the best 8-bit throwback since MM9.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Sells More Than 1.2 Million Units in Opening Weekend
Re: Mario Kart 8 Drives Wii U Sales In The UK, Claims Second Place Behind Watch Dogs
Re: Mario Kart 8 Drives Wii U Sales In The UK, Claims Second Place Behind Watch Dogs
So then the Wii U sold what, 666 systems? Considering how terribly the system is doing in PAL regions, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it only sold 1 system last sales term.
I'm only half joking.
Re: Shovel Knight
@dustin_g
Not until sometime (probably 4-6 months) after E3. With the Wii U's embarrassingly low install base, I wouldn't be surprised if this game were delayed indefinitely on Wii U.
Re: Pier Solar HD
Re: Review: Grinsia (3DS eShop)
Really, what I want from Nicalis is a mix between Grinsia and Cave Story. Or, more accurately, a mix of Phantasy Star 3 and Super Castlevania IV. Great platforming, an easy to access yet tough to master battle system, RPG elements with a bit of customization and a sci-fi / Victorian steam punk setting. I love the intricacy of JRPGs and all the little details that really bring the world to life. I know of games that are like what I've described, but that's what I'd like to see more of: action RPGs with more action and more RPG.
Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (3DS eShop / Game Boy Advance)
The part in the ice dungeon where you have to split your clones and run through the maze ofblocks is the most rage inducing thing I've experienced in a handheld Zelda. EVER. The first time I ever got it, it took 6 tries. The fact that your ethereal clones are vaporized just by touching the blocks makes things very tricky indeed. Fusing Kinstones was fun but so were some of the new items and mechanics. The Gust Jar and Mole Mitts in particular were alot of fun.
Re: Nintendo Download: 29th May (Europe)
Re: Super Mario Bros. 3 Is Warping To North American Virtual Consoles On April 17th
April 3rd cannot come soon enough.
Scratch that, April can't come soon enough!
Pier Solar finally hits the Wii U eShop tomorrow!!
Re: Review: Metal Slug 7 (DS)
As the proud owner of both MS7 and Anthology, I can happily attest to many of the reviewer's points. What I'd like to see now is the 9th official game to drop on the eShop and other digital console markets. A fully HD, over the top tribute to the game and its fans. It's honestly been one of my most requested games, since Wii U was announced, actually.
Re: Nintendo Highlights Over 50 Unity Games on the Way to the Wii U eShop
Re: Keiji Inafune Stills Wants To Make Mega Man Legends 3 A Reality
Re: Keiji Inafune Stills Wants To Make Mega Man Legends 3 A Reality
Re: Ninterview: TriForce Johnson - A Journey From Game Master to First in Line
Re: Unepic Gets a Fresh Update for Wii U
Re: Hello Kitty Kruisers
This is what happens when Mario forgot to take off his catsuit..
Re: Nintendo Download: 20th March (North America)
I'm sick of waiting for SMB3. It's ridiculous that it's still not out yet. Best 2D Mario and by a fair amount, even over the still rather stellar SMW. To this day, I can't fathom how Nintendo was able to get the game to run on the Famicom!
Re: Yo-kai Watch Maintains Strong Run in Japan as 3DS Continues Battle with Vita
Re: Nintendo Unleashes Some Awesome Wii U eShop Trailers
Quoting humble bundles is also rather asinine. Really, someone pulling in over 20k a year can only afford to spend 5$ on a game? Please. Most people's monthly cell phone bill is 10-15x that amount. When we're talking about how few games there are to purchase (one decent game, two good ones and one great one per month is more than enough TV time for anyone..) and how little money people have for gaming, it makes me wonder if people are consumer junkies, cheap or just ignorant.
Re: Nintendo Unleashes Some Awesome Wii U eShop Trailers
Re: Review: Yoshi's New Island (3DS)
Re: Club Nintendo in North America to Remove Post-Play Survey Coins for Wii and DS Games
Re: Soapbox: Ignoring The Objectification Of Women In Games Won't Make the Problem Go Away
Desensitization: bad
Acceptance: good
Re: Infamous Series was Originally Inspired by Animal Crossing
Fighting, platforming and seek quests killed Infamous for me. The hour long full trial on PS+ confirmed it: cool concept, decent storyline, somewhat interesting characters and horrible execution. I'd take Mario I can play over Infamous I can watch any day, and Mario's definitely not my favorite game. It's just impossible not to enjoy.
Re: One Piece Unlimited World Red Is Sailing To Wii U And 3DS In Europe And Australia
When you're done, join me in anticipating this collection
Proof positive, ladies and gentlemen, the PS3 still has devs making better games than for the PS4.
Re: Wii U eShop Exclusive I've Got to Run! Will Hurry to North America in Q2 2014
As a fan of Bit Trip that likes to support small teams and indies in general, definitely picking this up at 2$.
For anyone on the fence, Runner 2 is on the cheap now. For less than 8$, you can get the game and the DLC character pack. I'll still like running best as the svelte Commandervideo Girl, but that's just me
Re: Nintendo Download: 13th March (North America)
Re: Nintendo Comes Up Empty at BAFTA Awards
I suppose, in retrospect, DID have more than one console would have been more appropriate, but it's kind of beside the point. A fanboy follows certain trends because he or she is too weak to show deviation. You hype the Last of Us without acknowledging any of it's flaws for that exact same reason, so stop preaching and start reasoning.
Re: Nintendo Comes Up Empty at BAFTA Awards
Re: 3DS Faces a Renewed Vita Challenge in Japan as Home Consoles Underperform
At all.
Re: Shovel Knight Release Pushed Back "A Few Weeks"
@rtr0GMR1
I'm stoked for it for the following reasons:
It's not a retro game in the sense it's limited by it's tech, but rather all the cool layering and personality the devs have crammed in in spite of the 'old school' aesthetic.
Re: Electronic Arts CEO Discusses The Company's Plans For Virtual Reality At SXSW
Screw it then, it's not cool enough for our 18-35 year olds who old want to see sex, drugs and gore!'
VR is a consumer unfriendly invention (like most 3D applications) that is far too limiting in scope. Isn't that cool?'
Gaming has come away from dingy basements, Doritos encrusted hoodies, sweat stained t-shirts, Mom's house, loners on a Friday with no life, boy's clubs, man-child online fantasy sessions and sexless deviants.
Re: The Legend of Zelda and Pokémon Are Doing Business With Monopoly in September
Re: Capcom Is Aware That We All Want A New Mega Man Collection, Thanks Very Much
New collection?
Re: Video: This Pier Solar HD Teaser Trailer Will Make You Weep Tears Of 16-Bit Joy
Re: New Child of Light Trailer Shows Off Co-Op Mode
I remember this game looking much more inspired by Yoshitaka Amano's flowing art and if this is the final form, I find it to be rather underwhelming. Basically, it's a serious Rayman with new characters. Tried and true, Ubisoft is nothing if not predictable.
Re: Nicalis Boss Tyrone Rodriguez Thinks The Wii U GamePad Is "A Waste Of Time And Resources"
