Re: The Game Boy Advance is Now 15 Years Old

NodesforNoids

It was super popular in Japan, like the DS and 3DS and sold better than in the states. Until it hit parity (about 20 million in both territories) and then the states pulled away pretty considerably.
I had 3 of the fat versions and just 1 SP, but I managed to get hold of the NES colorway. It was a godsend, having it be rechargeable. I'm sure I got rid of the first 3 because of horrid battery life (and a battery pack that got too hot to hold).

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Wants Us to Download More and Move On From Discs - Will It Work?

NodesforNoids

There are more than a fair number of used games in my PS4 collection. Thief (which I was told I would hate, though I ended up enjoying), Knack (same as with Thief), Watch Dogs (same), Tomb Raider, Madden 25 (cheap), ACIV (super cheap) and Wolf Among Us.
All less than a third of what they cost new or digitally.
Bloodborne, Transformers, Zestiria SAO Lost Song all physical for cheap (less than half digital but all games I bought the system for).
And over 70 games digitally.
More than anything, I've collected rare and hard to find Blu-ray and DVD movies that aren't available on streaming or download stores.
With close to 300 items, gaming storage space is at a premium. The PSN store sales have helped inflate those digital numbers alot.

@wiiincarthage I can't believe I'm replying to this but ok.
I live in Canada.
I have 4-6 friends that are tree planters. As in, they go to deforested areas and plant trees to replace the trees that have been cut down. I have been to South America and seen the sad state of the rain forests there.
You're upset they don't make physical books anymore? I'm upset it was ever a practice. This country still values farming economically and that is going to suffer massively due to an insanely moderate winter.
Without a regular snowfall, the losses this economy takes (in hand with an additional 6 billion from oil losses) is going to be close to 3 billion.
And here you are, complaining you don't get free print manuals with your plastic luxury item.
It makes me sick that this is even still an issue, but you clearly haven't been in places where peoples lives have deteriorated because of the moronic choices people used to make.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Wants Us to Download More and Move On From Discs - Will It Work?

NodesforNoids

@MarvinTheMartian It's not even close to half.
The mix of gamers you see on a site like this is skewed heavily towards collectors.
Rarely, if ever, will a Nintendo focused site ever favor the growing populace of download gamers.
The vocal minority are collectors, the ones that watch E3 livestreams, have multiple variations of the same console and spend thousands on their precious 'game rooms'.
As for me, I go download majority (anything over 30 GB I buy physically) because it's 2 hours of travel to get to a game store.
As an aside..
I won't buy off of Amazon, as I feel like the point of buying physical is to both have the box and support actual people.
And from what everyone has heard of Amazon's business practices, they aren't worth supporting.
But if you're cool with the company you buy from overworking and abusing their work force, then good on you for saving a couple bucks.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Wants Us to Download More and Move On From Discs - Will It Work?

NodesforNoids

@Peterjr1 That's all it is, right?
Why buy anything when you don't agree with the prices? Might as well just pirate whatever you want, yeah?
How about this: next time gas / diesel / petrol is too high for your taste, fuel up and drive away.
Or siphon it from another person's tank.
Why buy what you can get for free?
Why buy anything you can get for free?
Next time you're at Walmart, pocket an amiibo.
Open up a case at Best Buy and take the game.
Go ahead.
They're not presenting it to you for free, you might as well.
Justifying piracy because you don't want to buy something for the price it's being offered at doesn't make you some champion of consumer justice. It makes you a pirate.
If you don't agree with it, don't buy it.
But advocating piracy because you disagree with the price point makes you a pirate. Aka, a thief.

@garfreek 'Remove backwards compatibility'?
PS3, Saturn, Dreamcast, Wii Mini, DSi, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, SNES, N64, Gamecube all removed or didn't have backwards compatibility.
It's funny that this industry buzzword has been tossed around for a decade without people thinking that, every generation has gotten stronger with less backward compatibility.
I have a PS4 and I cannot wait for the PS3 to fully die so I don't have to suffer another gimped port.
Keep backward compatibility and all new systems become is a breeding ground for nostalgia.
It's funny to me, PS3 struggled (badly) before Sony cut the BC model. PS4, without BC, has been one of the fastest selling consoles ever.
Pretty obvious that BC is something that few truly care for.

'I'm totally cool with spending 70$ for a game that, if it gets scratched, cracked, snapped or stolen, I'll never be able to play it again.
I'm furious that Nintendo / Sony / Microsoft would ask me to pay 70$ for a game I will have as long as I want to own it.'
'Yeah? Well I'm furious that Nintendo let me choose how much storage my console had instead of charging me a premium like Sony and Microsoft. Despite the fact that physical discs take up only as much space as their updates and don't require a mandatory install.'
'And I'm upset because a 7" piece of plastic is the one screaming point keeping me from supporting amiibos with download codes. I know I get all of the pretty toys and posters and crap that I don't need but think looks cool, but without that piece of plastic, it's ****ing worthless!'
Funny read, this one.
So you want cheap physical games, a better account system, and Nintendo to pay you to do so?
Idiocy.
So you've gone full digital, sacrificing physical copy for instant gratification? Here, have some eShop credit.
It's pretty obvious why Nintendo fans want everything without consequences: they aren't smart enough to make tough decisions on their own.
In life, you pay a premium for the 'better' choice. It's how it's always been. On the flipside, maybe Nintendo should do what Microsoft was going to do and prevent used games from playing on the NX.
Why does Nintendo want to go digital only?
Because used games and trading games LOSES them money.
They're a business and everyone, literally EVERYONE on this page needs to stop treating them like they're your friend.

Re: Twilight Princess HD Loses Out to The Division on Japanese Launch

NodesforNoids

@Mahe Twilight Princess HD a downport?
Comparing the original to the HD version in person isn't nearly the same as viewing some Youtube video.
Comparing TP HD to Type 0 is even more outlandish.
The original TP was a console game. Selling it for a console was a mistake. Type 0 was a handheld game.
As terrible as it is and was, it actually made sense to port Type 0.
I mean, SE needed some piece of garbage to justify selling the FFXV demo.

Re: Nintendo Hardware Sales Climb in Japan Despite Limited New Releases

NodesforNoids

Both the PS4 and the Vita sold more than all 4 3DS SKUs combined,
Which is a ridiculous statement.
I get why it's happening, I just forgot for a few minutes how heavily Nintendo leans on games like MH, YW and Pokemon when they first release.
It'll be interesting to see how Generations does in the West and if Pokemon will catch fire again with Moon and Sun. Personally, I'd like to see a new console Pokemon (Pokken doesn't really count) and Level-5 return to puzzles and RPGs .
Did you guess that Ni No Kuni 2 is one of most anticipated games of this generation?

Re: Axiom Verge Confirmed for Wii U Release Later This Year

NodesforNoids

Before you trash me as 'just a hater', know that I've owned an NES, an SNES, 2 N64s, 5 Gamecubes, a Wii U, 3 DSs, a Gameboy, 3 GBAs, 2 3DSs and a New 3DS. I've invested 3500-4500$ on Nintendo games and systems in my lifetime.
And after being one of few Day One Wii U owners (the first in ny Canadian province) I saw the Wii U abandonded by 3rd parties.
But Nintendo fanboys excused it, saying the games on other consoles were trash.
So for every negative point thrown at the PS4 and its diverse, engaging line-up of games, I'm here to throw one back at the Wii U and it's overpriced, overhyped, first party only scraps.

Re: Axiom Verge Confirmed for Wii U Release Later This Year

NodesforNoids

'The sole reason to buy a PS4'?
Resogun, Bloodborne, Tearaway Unfolded, SFV (best online fighter available), Disgaea 5, Helldivers, Infamous: SS and (upcoming) Uncharted 4, Ratchet & Clank, Horizon Zero Dawn and No Man's Sky say hello.
The only reason left to buy a Wii U is coming out a year after everyone on Sony's system beat it 10x over.
But hey, nice try, trying to belittle the PS4's line-up (which also includes Star Ocean 5, Persona 5, Rocket League, The Witness, Grand Kingdom, Ni No Kuni 2, FF7 Remake, Odin Sphere and every multiplat game the Wii U can only dream of).

Re: Nintendo Download: 17th March (Europe)

NodesforNoids

@neyoung8 There is some touchscreen work in the exploration / detective mode. As long as there aren't 'dead spots' on the touchscreen, you'll be fine.
It might be kind of annoying, accidentally exiting an area in a rare occassion, but Capcom was pretty good about keeping clues away from the exits.
As for the games themselves, Trilogy has more content, is a bit more challenging and Capcom did a great job modernizing the port.
I still prefer Dual Destinies, mainly because it looks better, sounds better, has way better presentation and your conclusions always seem more sensible. As in the game didn't expect you to take giant leaps of faith. Maybe that was just part of the storyline in Trilogy, I just found everything to be a little more solid in Dual Destinies.

Re: Star Fox Zero Will Include An Invincible Mode For Inexperienced Players

NodesforNoids

It's funny how a gamer might pay 60-80$ (depending on their region) to play a game, but there are always those who bemoan an 'easy' mode or a casual mode.
So they made this game accessible for all gamers with 3 difficulty settings so that's bad?
Looking at videos of how the game controls, maybe it's a really good idea to include a few difficulty settings. I mean, it sucks dying in a game when it's an easy enemy but the controls suck.
I like easy modes, because I don't have alot of gamer friends. It's nice to just mess around with those non gamers sometimes without having to deal with the frustration of overly aggressive AI.
Hotline Miami. Fun game, stupidly hard. Anyone who can beat that game in a single life gets huge props from me. But it took me 3 months to beat, simply due to how fast you die.
I can't imagine SFZ being that hard, but Bayo 2 definitely had some intense moments and the W101 inspired gestures they shoehorned into one of the Bayo 1 battles had me rage quitting more than once.
Awkward, frustrating or broken controls can make anyone wishing for an easier difficulty during such prolonged periods of learning and adjusting.

Re: Talking Point: The Popularity of Nintendo Selects, Updates and DLC Expansions Can Change How We Buy Games

NodesforNoids

It's kind of funny, Nintendo gamers on here, talking about how Hitman is going to fail misrrably due to the episodic nature.
Even the writer talks about how it could be a huge problem.
Consider this:
Game sells 1 million season passes @ 60$. That's 60$ million.
Episode 1 sells 5 million copies @ 10$. That's 50$ million.
If the season pass only sold 50k @ 60$, that's 3$ million.
Obviously, selling a few copies of a high priced season pass / retail title is a faster way to make money, but you are going to make just as much through impulse purchases.
Because it's easier to justify.
I can buy a 20$ card and get 3 episodes of a story without having to commit to a 30-50$ game.
Is it smart to buy the 'full experience'?
Sure, but only if the game meets your expectations.
Now Fire Emblem is still a niche game. The sales don't change that. The subject matter and gameplay mean that Fire Emblem will always be a niche game. Spending 80$ for a full 3 campaigns is a great deal for someone who enjoys FE, for someone who doesn't? 40$ will seem like too much for one portion.
And that's the point of episodic content.
There will always, ALWAYS, be people willing to buy the whole set.
That's why Pokemon is the best selling VC title on the 3DS. That's why JRPGs have massive collector's editions. That's why game makers have ever made statues of their characters. Not because they're interesting to everyone or appeal to everyone, but because collectors exist.
But for a larger audience, it stands to reason that a miniscule price point (the one offered by episodic titles) will inflate sales and drive profit margins.
I'd argue that an RPG could be sold cheaply (say 35$) and each individual gamer could pick their characters of choice.
Zen Pinball 2 has done as much and it provides only what each gamer is willing to pay for.

Re: Ubisoft Is Trying To Quell Beyond Good And Evil 2 NX Rumours

NodesforNoids

New rumor, I'm starting it right..
..
..
..
NOW.
Ok, so we all know Vivendi is a major controlling party in Ubisoft right now.
We all know that they own a controlling stake in Gameloft (smaller mobile gaming company) an associated off-shoot of Ubisoft.
And we all know that French law allows Vivendi to make a play at a takeover.
What if BG&E2 is indeed back in development, an NX exclusive and the first of several NX exclusives from Ubisoft?
My educated guess (based of this socio-politically relevant information, Ubisoft's recent behavior and Nintendo's iron jaw regarding NX info) is that Nintendo has already put a significant sum on the table, to ensure these exclusives.
But Vivendi isn't part of the deal.
Why would either company follow this road? Ubisoft is knee deep is next gen, Nintendo is wet behind the ears. Ubisoft has a ton more experience on various platforms. And Ubisoft isn't aiming for the same demographics.
What does Ubisoft gain?
Nintendo shares. A day one spotlight when NX launches. Financial independance from Vivendi. And a digital storefront just waiting for a boatload of classic Ubisoft games.
Only when the deal is mutually exclusive does it start to make sense. And ladies and gentlemen, this partnership is starting to make sense.
Like Bandai-Namco, Square-Enix or Activision-Blizzard, Nintendo-Ubisoft would be a mutually beneficial partnership between like minded individuals, but with their individual figureheads remaining (mostly) seperated.
I'd like to see Ubisoft Montreal get together with NoA and NoE get together with Ubisoft's European branch.
But, and most importantly, Ubisoft is a new presence in mobile for Nintendo, while Nintendo holds all the keys to Japan for Ubisoft.
Personally, I want to see this transpire. As much as people may hold grudges for things like AC Rogue, the Legends delay and ZombiU being terrible, it can't be denied that Nintendo still needs all the support they can muster.

Re: Ubisoft Is Trying To Quell Beyond Good And Evil 2 NX Rumours

NodesforNoids

@Peach64 while I agree that SFV and Rise of the Tomb Raider would have existed with or without console manufacturer backing, comparing Bayonetta 2 to BG&E2 is a bit far fetched.
Bayo 2 is a Platinum game. Platinum isn't the monolithic studio Ubisoft is. Not by a longshot.
Without additional funding, games like Far Cry Primal, Wild, AC Syndicate and even Watch Dogs wouldn't be possible by Platinum.
Bayo 2 needed Nintendo because Platinum doesn't have the cash necessary for such an undertaking.
The game is head and tails beyond their lesser funded games (Korra, Transformers).
It's painfully obvious Nintendo scaled back the budget for Star Fox after Bayo 2 failed to perform to the Big N's expectations.
If Ubisoft WANTED BG&E2 to be made, they'd fund it themselves.
But it made about as much money in it's first year as the Division will make in a month.
They've moved on and it's just Nintendo fans that cling to past glory that actually care about it anymore.
Ask anyone else, and if they told you a sequel, Half Life 3, Left for Dead 3, Portal 3 and dozens of other games would be listed before BG&E2.
It was a great game.
But it's not the type of game Ubisoft wants to make.
That's the difference.
Platinum wanted to make Bayo 2, I've played most of it. It shows. They really loved that game. It is the most Nintendo game that Nintendo was never going to make.
Nintendo needs to take their games in the direction of BG&E2's art style and gameplay (Mario particularly) for people to continue to care about them, and it would be a nice game to have in their arsenal.
But there's next to nothing in it for Ubisoft.

Re: Interview: Renegade Kid on Stepping it Up With Mutant Mudds Super Challenge

NodesforNoids

Well SMB2 was pretty much what this is but for Mario.
I like that it wasn't Mudds 2, because it speaks more toward the people who played the original than new gamers.
I can see a collection coming soon, or some kind of early discount, to encourage new gamers to buy and try both.
I'd recommend doing so, as the 'plane jumping' really seperates it from most platformers.
Poncho does it too and that is one beautiful game. Not as fun though, more frustrating to be honest.

Re: Interview: Renegade Kid on Stepping it Up With Mutant Mudds Super Challenge

NodesforNoids

I still can't get over how the boy looks almost exactly like a certain Mother 2 / Earthbound character.
It would prove to be coincidental, if that character didn't use guns.
As it stands, playing Mutant Mudds always felt like some hidden platformer you'd find while traversing the desert.
You know, the desert where enemy difficulty suddenly spikes? Not that the original Mudds was overly difficult though. Until the 4th 'world', the only really challenging levels were the secret stages.
If I ever rebuy a 3DS, this will be one of my first eShop purchases.

Re: Review: Dragon Ball Z: Super Butoden 2 (SNES)

NodesforNoids

SNES, PS1 and 2 were my DBZ import destinations.
Being relatively cheap imports, at one point I had 8-10.
Both RPGs and fighters, since then everything gets localized.
It's just too bad Xenoverse's overworld handicaps the experience (and the customization is severely lacking).
Bandai Namco has rarely ever produced either a great overworld or a meaningful character creator, so I'm hardly shocked.
Compared to SAO: Lost Song though?
I never thought about how terrible their character creators were until now. Wow, they are horrible!

Re: Review: Steel Rivals (Wii U eShop)

NodesforNoids

If we're talking any fighter to play on the Wii U, Capcom vs Tatsunoko should forever be up for consideration.
For casual fight fans, Smash is ok, but even Tekken Tag 2 is better.
On PS4, I've got multiple saves going on Guilty Gear, Blazblue, Skullgirls and SFIV.
SFV plays better and the balance is spot on, but it's so barebones. I'm putting off buying it until the fall.
Plus it gives me a chance to save for the next Guilty Gear

Re: Poll: Which Is The Best Mario Spin-Off Series or Game?

NodesforNoids

@abbyhitter I agree with you 100%.
The multiple cameos, great new enemy types, solid RPG active battles, new main boss, creative storytelling and ability to play as both Peach and Bowser were huge.
Square's first high profile cross-over style game and it remains a masterpiece to this day.
I even like the isometric view, even if it made platforming kind of a pain in the backside.
Geno's 'introduction' was well executed and incredibly memorable.
A must-play game for any Mario or RPG fan.

Re: Video: Nintendo Details Super Mario Maker's "Key Update"

NodesforNoids

I foresee some crazy Inception style levels in the future. I like the idea of a chain of rooms, where solving a puzzle gets you a key you need to find the keyhole for. And chaining that concept one after another. Say, after a long sprint with Boos, Big Boos and a ridiculous amount of fire.
A burning, churning Ghost House!
I would like to see Nintendo give gravity effects to the tool set.
Like the ability to turn a small room end over end or running along the ceiling.
Mario needs more wacky!

Re: Zero Time Dilemma Aiming to Resolve All Series Mysteries and Tackle 'Extreme' Scenes

NodesforNoids

@yuwarite So you don't think that changing the art style solely for the new game would be unnecessarily divisive?
The game is very niche as is, and messing with something like the art style only breaks immersion between stories.
The 2nd game added 3D characters and from what I remember, ended up being a very unpopular decision at the time.
Changing things again is just asking for trouble.
If the developer wants to adopt a more 'Western' or realistic art style, it would be alot smarter to do so in another series.
The fact this is coming out for both handhelds should be enough to tell you that, yes, it is still a very Japanese game.

It's definitely a grand sense of accomplishment, unlocking everything.
Even if 12-18 attempts of the same boss had my controller routinely bouncing off the memory foam pillow beneath my feet.
It's cathartic, being able to drop your controller in dismay and not break it!
Speaking of controllers, I still can't believe I was able to get a brand new DS4 for just 25$ on Boxing Day. My partner loves playing Helldivers, Gauntlet and Tomb Raider Osiris while my son laughs as we die hilarious deaths.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo's Virtual Console Revolution Must Wait as We Pay Once More for SNES Games

NodesforNoids

@Xenocity Comparing the two eShops to the iOS / Mac App Store is all fine and well.
But Nintendo isn't selling apps, music and movies.
They're selling games, so let's compare that to what Sony does with their game systems.
I don't see Mac or PC in Media Create. The 3DS isn't competing with the iPhone / iPad or iMac.
Conparing Nintendo to the competition, Nintendo is abysmal. Not really even in the same league anymore.
They might make better games (depending on individual preferences) but as for their business strategy? It's C grade while Sony's out there smashing sales records and doing 5x as much.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo's Virtual Console Revolution Must Wait as We Pay Once More for SNES Games

NodesforNoids

I never thought I would ever say this, but here it goes.
'To anyone, wherever you are and if you ever read this, break the New 3DS.
Open the doors to pirated software.
And end this garbage cycle.'
I bought 10-15 PS1 games when I had my PS3. When I got my new PSP, I just downloaded those games to the Memory Card.
Likewise, I bought 5-7 PSP games on PSN and when I got my new Vita (ok, 2nd hand Vita), I again simply downloaded the games to the memory card.
PS4 might be asking people to rebuy 8-10 year old games, but it's a joy (coupled with cross-buy) compared to the trash Nintendo dumps on their systems.
This is a joke, just like Nintendo is a joke. And if they keep going with the NX like they have here, I hope the NX flops harder than the Wii U.
Make games Nintendo, you're doing everything else wrong.

Re: Feature: Exciting Wii U and 3DS Games to Play in Spring and Summer 2016

NodesforNoids

Even if you're multiplayer only, there's The Division, Battleborn and Overwatch.
Fairy Fencer F Advent Dark Force (one of the best looking ports I've seen) for the JRPG fans, Mafia 3 (the second was fantastic), a gorgeous Ratchet and Clank remake, a much better looking Homefront sequel, Grand Kingdom (highly anticipated tactics RPG) and another GOTY candidate to look forward to in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
And 90% of all those games are multiplatform.

Re: Feature: Exciting Wii U and 3DS Games to Play in Spring and Summer 2016

NodesforNoids

If I still had my Nintendo systems, Kirby, Lost Reavers and stupidly named Fire Emblem cash-in would be my most anticipated.
As is, I'm pretty excited for Uncharted 4, DS3, Odin Sphere, MLB 16, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, Senran Kagura Estival Versus and I might check out Doom too.
There's so much coming, it's getting hard to choose (and buying everything just creates ridiculous backlogs).
I just don't want to put off these purchases for too long. Still stupidly excited for FFVII, FFXV, Star Ocean 5, Ys 8, No Man's Sky (coming really soon) and Horizon.
Anyone complaining about a lack of good games is either buying one game a year, has terrible taste or is just way too picky.

Re: Live Blog: Watch the North American March 2016 Nintendo Direct - Live!

Paper Mario is fun enough and Kirby looks decent, but there was nothing else for me today.
I don't get the hype over SNES on the 3DS, the #FE game is getting worse everytime they show it and Star Fox is still a joke.
It's funny how Nintendo adds RPG elements to Federation Force and now everyone seems very accepting of it.
Lest we forget it was heavily panned last year.

Re: Rumour: Beyond Good And Evil 2 Is Being Developed As A Nintendo NX Exclusive

NodesforNoids

Yes, it probably will be on the NX.
As a multiplatform game, like the last one was.
It's easy enough to confirm a game like this will be on the NX, but I sincerely doubt everything else, particularly the exclusivity.
The Wii U is proof positive that committing any exclusive by a 3rd party takes a leap of faith.
Unless Ubisoft and Nintendo are talking merger in the face of Vivendi's recent actions.
If Nintendo came forward as a interested investor, then I could definitely see Beyond 2 being NX exclusive.
With the Division, Far Cry, Rayman and the Just Dance series, Ubisoft has their hands in markets Nintendo doesn't have access to, so it would be a sound business decision for both parties.

Re: A Wii U and 3DS Nintendo Direct Is On the Way

So 3 minutes long and focused on a handful of 3DS game logos, a minute of Pokken and 20 seconds of Star Fox?
Why have a Direct when less than a million people care about any of the games you could possibly show?
Zelda will stay MIA until the NX is revealed and Star Fox has been a joke.
Aside from Pokken and a new game announcement, what is there for North Anerican gamers?
Europeans will likely get closure on YW and FE: Fates, but these Directs are just live trailers with no real substance.

Re: Jotun: Valhalla Edition to Bring Hand-Drawn Norse Mythology to Wii U This Summer

NodesforNoids

Norse (one must know one of the 'classical' mythologies well), Rigvedic (the sheer number of deities, the socio-political structure of the deities and the influence of Rigveda is astounding) and Celtic (the symbolism and artistic interpretations are incredible) would have to be my favorites.
Egyptian is fun, with gods like Ra and Ramses and the fixation on cats and the afterlife.
Greek is homogenous with Western fiction and creates powerful works (with games like God of War being intimately influenced).
Japanese and Chinese have intricacy upon intricacy woven into their fabric. They almost transcend myth to become folklore, as they are so involved in their respective countries' histories.
I'm not so much of a fan of Arabian, Hittite, or Slavic mythology, but I can admit there is some profound draw there as well.
It's nice to see interpretations of common tales and see fresh life breathed into an familiar story.
Bastion and follow-up Transistor were both alot of fun.
This style of game can be downright breathtaking to behold, so this should be a title to watch for.
As an aside, I recently started a new job as a tour guide. It's enriching, getting to experience history and share the tales of a distant past.
I really appreciate good storytelling, as that's what I do for a living now.

Re: Ubisoft Discounts Galore in 2-Week North American eShop Sale

NodesforNoids

@DefHalan
I've got AC3 on Wii U and AC4 on PS4. I found them to be the best Wii U games Ubisoft made. I like Rayman Legends and got it for 12$ a few weeks back and Watch Dogs is ok (the police are aggressive, which I like and the environment is uncomfortably monitored which works for the game's premise).
AC4 has far less hand holding than AC3. If you'd prefer to ease your way into an (eventually) harder experience, AC3 is the way to go.
I prefer the characters of Black Flag and the improved ship based combat, but both are alot of fun.

Alot of people seem to be missing the point.
When Iwata passed away, it was international news. It became more than just a 'Nintendo thing'.
This is a story that transcends genres, systems and gaming and will effect thousands of people.
A Vivendi takeover would undoubtedly mean layoffs.
Look at what happened to Disney Interactive after Disney bought out Lucas Arts.
Slamming Ubisoft for making crappy games is one thing, but understand that people will lose their jpbs over this. Willingly asking that on anyone is just inexcusable. So before anyone asks for this to happen because of their own personal vendetta, stop and consider what losing your job suddenly would do to you.

NodesforNoids

Amusing how Europe has like 8 different regions to include for language (and Fates involves alot of written and spoken dialogue) and multiple lotchecks to pass, yet people can't understand why the game would take longer to come out there.
Or that Bravely Second is another RPG and that Nintendo doesn't want Square Enix's game cannibalizing it's sales. The 2 games were staggered in both regions, which I'm certain had to do with the past entry's sales data.
What do I know though, I'm not buying either one.

Re: Ori and the Blind Forest Director Criticises Secrecy and Lack of Access to NX Devkits

NodesforNoids

As an additional point, I get people talking up his 'arrogance' or 'ignorance'. It makes sense, he doesn't seem likeable.
I don't like alot of people that I can still respect. This isn't Phil Fish talking. This is the head of a fairly sizeable studio.
Consider the points he raised but replace NX with Wii U.
EA drops support instantly. Konami, Capcom, Square Enix, Bandai Namco and others were mostly invisible. Activision backed off after a few releases and Ubisoft hasn't made an effort since Child of Light.
When the Wii U released it got ports. Madden. FIFA. Darksiders 2. Mass Effect 3. Batman Arkham City.
Then it gets 2 Zelda ports, a MH remaster and a Deus Ex port.
Which would be fine if those same devs were making new games too. Arkham City gave way to Origins. That's good. None of the others lead to anything. That's bad.
When I look at the PS4, it's different.
Dark Souls 2 to Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3. Uncharted Collection to Uncharted 4. Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls to Detroit.
On the X1, it was the Master Chief Collection to Halo 5. Gears of War Ultimate to Gears 4.
And let's not forget the big one: Tomb Raider to Rise of the Tomb Raider.
It's fine to re-release a game or to remaster it, as long as the pay off is a new and (hopefully) better game.
Nintendo hid the Wii U and got saddled with a host of these 'building' games and nothing happened.
Even that Deus Ex game is getting a follow-up, but again, Nintendo is being left out. Remasters, remakes and re-releases should only serve to introduce new gamers to a particular series. Not try and be a definitive experience. Only new games will sell hardware, something Nintendo needs to consider moving forward.

Re: Ori and the Blind Forest Director Criticises Secrecy and Lack of Access to NX Devkits

Ori and the Blind Forest was better (considerably so) than anything Nintendo put out last year.
Unravel is a junky, clubky physics platformer with heart but not alot of polish.
Excitement is fine and well from a gamer's perspective, but this reeks of experience. Not making games, just the same exact experience every current and former fan has with the Wii U.
Is he frustrated? Yeah.
Is he a Nintendo fan not wanting to see the NX crash and burn? Yeah.
If the 2016 rumors are true, Nintendo's being awful selective as to who gets the devkits. They can get all the EA games they want, but they're going to need hundreds of devs to make this work.
Shunning anyone with the resume to make quality titles (and these guys are one of those studios) is a bit moronic of Nintendo, considering what they went through with the Wii U.
We get it, first party Nintendo games are pretty good and probably worth buying a system for. But talking with EA never got them very far last time around.
Nintendo needs a defibrilator but they're playing it off like the same old, same old is going to work.
I hate being so negative but Nintendo was losing every generation until they caught fire with the DS and Wii.
Sony caught fire with the PS2 and now the PS4.
The difference is how.
Solid tech, easy to develop for and a wide library of games. Versus flashy gimmicks, complex hardware and underpowered tech.
If Nintendo plays it safe, they'll lose. If they go with a gimmick, they'll lose.
If they prioritize handheld gaming and simply allow a hub style system where players can interact over a larger screen, they might succeed.
But they don't seem smart enough to figure out that they no longer get consoles. They're so far behind, they think they're winning.

Re: 3DS Hardware Sales Dip in Japan, Though Mario & Sonic at the Rio Olympics Gets Off the Blocks

NodesforNoids

I'd be sad regarding the sales of SFV (Nintendo is lucky Ultra Smash and the Olympic games cart is selling at all) but then I remember: Japan.
This is the rare (yet increasing) phenomenon of a Japanese game aimed solely at competitive online Western gaming.
Then again, for a company to all but kill off their most beloved character (Mega Man) and turn to 'serious' pursuits? That's all too common in Japan now. I think Sega and Namco should be in Capcom's credits and maybe the 3 could write a book.
'How to Make People Hate Likeable Characters' - foreword by Konami.
Literally the one area no other gaming giant has done properly (Rayman comes close), Nintendo makes enjoyable characters.
Easy enough to hate, but man, they sure have endured some terrible times and choices.
