Re: Video: Check Out 11 Bone-Crunching Minutes Of Streets Of Rage 4 Co-op Gameplay

NintndoNik

I am loving so many things about this long awaited sequel. It's looking like it will be a solid follow up to a beloved series and I am there day 1.

But I have to echo some of the concerns about the music - in particular this first stage (in my opinion) was not as good as previous games and left me wanting... The music from the Floyd trailer was so epic and hit hard in all the right spots, I'm a little worried the actual in game music won't be as good as the music made on 16bit hardware 25 years ago... I know this a "collaboration" of talented Japanese music artists, but perhaps it might have been better if Yuzo Koshiro produced the entire soundtrack himself with help, just as he had done on the originals.

Re: Nintendo Won't Be Required To Offer eShop Pre-Order Refunds In Norway Or Germany

NintndoNik

I think there should be 2 ways to “pre buy” games on the e-shop, but that would get complicated and messy...

1. A non refundable “pre-load” where the game is downloaded and ready when the release date arrives.

2. A refundable “pre-buy” where nothing is downloaded to your system and you possibly receive “priority” in the download queue with the rest of the people who don’t “pre-order” games.

The problem in this instance is that once software downloads to your console, if you receive a refund, the software is still there... You can bet hackers and other nefarious types would take advantage of that.

The other option is to, you know, don’t pre-buy/pre-load/pre-order anything. 🤷‍♂️

Re: Review: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition - An Incredible Action-RPG Stands Strong On Switch

NintndoNik

@Mr_Muscle I just have to chime in because your ignorance is like nails on a chalk board. When The Witcher III launched on PS4 it was full price. When it launched on PC it was full price. And now that it launches on a switch, it’s full price too. These ports aren’t created by pressing the “make switch port” button. Give it a couple of months before the inevitable price drop, and next year it will probably be the same price as the other versions.

And your argument for which version is “better” is flawed. The word better is the dumbest word in the English language. Your only argument for why this version is “inferior” is because of graphical performance. I would argue this version is “better” (for me) because I might actually get to finish it, whereas I wouldn’t be able to put any time into other versions. I spend 10 hours a day working in front of computer screen (3d artist), the last thing I want to do when I get home is stare at a monitor or a TV screen.

I can fit an hour or so of game time in before bed, at lunch, or during my commute. Not everyone has the same living circumstance as you. Perhaps if you ever get a demanding job, wife and family, you might come to understand just how much of a game changer the concept of the Switch actually is for millions of people.

Re: Feature: Best GameCube Games

NintndoNik

This list is a good indication as to why we’ll never get another Wave Race or 1080. Because as much as these games were highly coveted by “fans” and critics alike at the time, where is the love for them now!? How are they rated so low by the community when they are 2 of the best and most polished games on the GameCube...

Shame on everyone who rated those games so poorly.

Re: This New Device Lets You Use Airpods And Other Bluetooth Headphones With Your Switch

NintndoNik

Do people actually understand what a battery suck Bluetooth is? I actually have an extremely decent and expensive pair of over ear Bluetooth headphones and actually choose to wear wired (granted my wired pair is excellent too).

Does everyone remember when the Switch launched? The moronic haters were all like, “der the Switch only lasts 2 hrs undocked it sucks!1!” ...Could you imagine the PR nightmare if Bluetooth was included and the Switch only lasted an hour and a half undocked while you wore a pair of Bluetooth beats by Dre?

I’d actually love to see a battery test on a Bluetooth dongle that pulls power from the Switch... on a battery intensive game like BotW or Doom 2016, I think battery time would be well under 2 hours.

In a perfect world, the Switch would’ve launched as powerful as a PS4, have Bluetooth headphone support and have a battery that lasts at least half a day...

Re: Switch Owners Choose To Play EA Games On Other Platforms, Says Company CEO

NintndoNik

God I hate EA and their stupid PR bullsh!t.. There is not enough profanity in the English language for me to describe my disdain for this backwards a$$ company. EA proper is only interested in shoe-horning as much predatory micro-transaction crap into every game they release. I worry for the future of Respawn. I hope their contractual agreements are iron-clad.

So what is his reasoning for someone like me; someone who only owns a Switch and skipped out on the PS4 & XB1 (I’ll probably never fully game tethered to a TV ever again. The hell with visual fidelity). Someone who would buy a Titanfall, Fallen Order or a decently ported FIFA game on my Switch? Hell, a decent Sims port on Switch could get my wife to purchase one for that alone!

An interesting point to note about this scumbag CEO - Andrew Wilson is the executive who green lit and pushed the concept of Fifa’s Ultimate Team into the vile, predatory, greedy, gambling system that exists today. Spending pennies in game development to make millions in micro-transactions. There is no going back for EA. This is their business model now and it just won’t fly on a Nintendo console. So this scumbag CEO can spin all the bullsh!t he wants, but the fact is, the reason EA won’t release games on the Switch is because micro-transactions just aren’t as lucrative on the Switch as they are on other platforms.

I wonder what EA will do when their lootboxes become regulated. No doubt that will be the day Andrew Wilson retires.

Re: Talking Point: Capcom’s Resident Evil Switch Pricing Is Nothing New

NintndoNik

@psanco I'm sorry, but yes you are making assumptions and I don't mean to come across rude , but you are wrong to assume this Capcom pricing issue with these Capcom games has anything to do with Nintendo (other than maybe Capcom trying to imitate Nintendo's "quality" standard with their unwavering pricing model, but perhaps that was your point). But again - in this case, that's totally on Capcom, not Nintendo. Unfortunately Capcom simply cannot imitate the way Nintendo prices their games because they (like everyone but Nintendo) discount far too quickly and far too often, and have proven to consumers that after 2 months or so their games are not worth full price. Again - that is on Capcom, not Nintendo.

And when you say "Nintendo make it more alluring to get your products physical with inflated digital pricing," you are also making more incorrect assumptions - the digital pricing is not inflated. It is exactly the same as the MSRP of the physical versions. Whether you believe that the digital price should be lower than the physical price, is irrelevant (personally I'd love to get all my digital games as cheap as possible too, but alas...) Here is a helpful, informative and fun little video to explain why this is (even though you may still dislike the explanations given [which is also perfectly valid]).

Re: Talking Point: Capcom’s Resident Evil Switch Pricing Is Nothing New

NintndoNik

@psanco Considering these games aren’t getting a physical release in Europe (or here in Australia), what price parity does Capcom (or your incorrect assumption that Nintendo) have to adhere to? Also this has nothing to do with Nintendo. This is all on Capcom. It’s baffling that I’m reading comments from various gaming sites and there are people who actually think that Nintendo sets the prices for products of other companies...

I do have a few questions though - What were the release prices on the other platforms? We’re they the same as these Switch releases? Will they eventually drop to be on par with the others over time?

The biggest question that I have is one that I haven’t even seen asked on the major sites, and that is: Are there any improvements or additions coming to these releases? My most wanted being gyroscopic aiming for RE4 (as it exists in the Revelations releases). IF RE4 has gyro aiming added for the Switch release I personally would would be willing to shell out on day 1.

...However if this is just a straight, no frills port with zero differences, then I am with most other people on the “wait for the eventual 40% off sale.” And I will wait for 40% off, because they have set the precedent with their previous Revelations sales.

Re: UK Charts: New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Fights Off Ace Combat 7 To Stay At Number One

NintndoNik

@AlexSora89 The smart business decision was to release NSMBUDX before Mario Maker. I (perhaps like you) am not interested in this release in the slightest. I almost beat this (and Luigi U) to 100%. I’ve had my fill.

If Mario Maker gets released on the Switch, I (like many people) will buy into that again. If Mario Maker was released first, do you really think NSMBUDX would have these kinds of insane sales figures? Because I certainly don’t think so. Who would want to buy NSMBUDX when they have an almost infinite number of Mario levels to play (regardless of quality difference)?

Re: Video: New Trailer Reveals Another Two Racing Modes Coming To V-Rally 4 On Switch

NintndoNik

@OorWullie
While Big Ben Interactive did say some idiotic things regarding Tennis World Tour, and I wouldn’t touch that game with a 10 foot pole, it’s unfair to the actual developers of V-Rally to disregard this game so early. V-Rally 4 (unlike Tennis World Tour) is being developed by a team with some seriously fanstastic racing pedigree - ie. They’re the former developers of the WRC series before the license was given to Codemasters.

So while I can understand being hestitant because of the publisher involved, perhaps we should wait for the game to drop before throwing Kylotonn Games under the bus.

They may be rushing toward a release date, they may not. Personally, I’m waiting on gameplay footage before I pass judgement, but I’m hopefully optimistic.

Re: There's a Sonic Forces Demo on the Japanese eShop, But It Has a Strange Limitation

NintndoNik

I’m going to have to disagree. I think the 1 minute timer is a genius design decision for a sonic demo. To re iterate: This type of limitation can really only work with a) a sonic (or speed running) game and b) a free demo.

I get the impression that the main draw of this sonic game (and most really) is that you should be trying to go as fast possible. A 1 minute timer forces you to go as fast as you can if you want to see more of the stage or try and finish it. Multiple playthroughs will have you remember where enemies and obstacles are, so you can avoid them better and get further... If you want to linger, explore and take this sonic game slowly, then perhaps this demo and possibly this game is not for you (and that’s perfectly ok too). Now whether the controls warrant repeat playthroughs is another story entirely (I haven’t played it so I can’t comment on controls).

Re: F-Zero X Wii U Update Improves Controls and 'Deadzone' Issue

NintndoNik

@UK-Nintendo I actually think that you're not understanding how retail pricing works - Nintendo sets the recommended retail price (rrp) to the retailers who buy their stock. If retailers (in your case Amazon) want to charge less than that, that's their call. They will not make as much money on each unit sold, but they will drive customers to their store with a low price - it worked with you. Now, if Nintendo undercut the retailers price, why then would retailers buy and stock Nintendo products if everyone would just buy direct from Nintendo? Without retailers stocking and providing Nintendo shelf space (virtual and physical), only dedicated Nintendo fans would ever see Nintendo products. Soon enough those fans will fall off with no new fans seeing the retail products and taking their place.

I know it would be much more convenient for us to buy cheap games direct from Nintendo, but Nintendo need retailers, and retailers need companies that make sought after products. It's a symbiont relationship.

Re: Timing of NX Reveal Remains Up for Debate, as Insight Emerges On Super Mario Run Development

NintndoNik

The logical money says Nintendo have to say something to shareholders at the meeting next week. But announcing anything to shareholders takes away any surprise reveal of new hardware because people basically live tweet the event. What Nintendo should do, is have the Direct at the same time as the investor meeting. Fans can watch the announcement through a fan service video and investors can hear about how the new product can make them more money. Both sides win...

(Although I still think they will hold out until Mario Run's release to announce anything)

Re: Interview: The Voice of Fox McCloud and Much More - Joe Zieja

NintndoNik

Joe's writing is really funny, and the book seems interesting. Might pick up a copy. However, if he were to read the audiobook in his Fox voice, I'd be all over that, whatever the price tag. Haha

As for StarFox, it is a great game. The issue I have with it is longevity. After roughly 15 or so hours in it unlocking all levels and running through arcade a few times, I don't feel the urge to dive back in... Perhaps if I had a son or nephew who was interested...

Great interview NLife!

Re: Review: Metroid Prime: Blast Ball (3DS)

NintndoNik

I'm really liking this free download. Competitive multiplayer is always interesting when you get pretty decent at the game. I've put in roughly 10 hrs so far and I'm fairly impressed - currently have an online score of about 1200. It's not that deep so probably won't last long, and there are some control quirks that should have been addressed (I would have liked a lock on 'toggle' instead of having to hold L for roughly 5 minutes at a time). But it's still a fun little experience for me.

I don't have an issue with the ball physics at all - when 2 players from opposite sides are shooting at the same thing at the same time, of course it's going 'feel' heavy. You need teamwork and strategic aiming with the gyro to direct the ball the way you'd like.

Still looking forward to the Fed Force launch as the few issues I have with this free add on game will not translate to the full package.

As a side note, people really need to stop confusing 'art style' and 'graphical fidelity'. They are mutually exclusive and are not the same thing. Some of the polish that Next Level games have put into these 3DS visuals is astounding even if the chibi art style may not be for everyone.

Re: Metroid Prime: Federation Force is Now Available to Pre-load in North America

NintndoNik

@donniedarkenson "Don't buy bad games just because you want them to continue the "Metroid Franchise" or whatever. They're just going to keep making the bad game if you do. (Sticker Star/Color Splash, etc.)"

I don't even know where to begin... You're implying that federation force is a bad game, and yet we don't yet know if Federation Force is bad or not, because it hasn't been released! And basing your opinion on Blast Ball, which is not even representative of the main gameplay, is just ignorant. Most signs point to this being a pretty decent game. Whether it's to your liking is another story. If you don't like the art style, fine. That doesn't make it bad. If you don't like the multiplayer centric gameplay, fine. That doesn't make it bad. Just because you don't like these things doesn't make it a bad game. That's like me saying FIFA is a crap game because I don't like soccer.

Also, you, and everyone really, needs pull back on the colour splash hate. It's already been established it's not sticker star. It actually seems pretty good and way better than sticker star. Here's ign praising its mechanics and a gaf thread with a glowing info dump of the game:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lMFg7Xm_PQk
http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1250469

While I will agree with you that people shouldn't buy bad games so as to send a message to developers about quality, you can't possibly make that statement about the 2 games you mentioned before they have even come out. Anyone who does is just being idiotic.

Re: The Stages for the Final Splatfest Have Been Announced

NintndoNik

Can someone explain the appeal of moray towers? Especially in a turf war. Moray Towers are a snipers dream. But this a Splatfest. Splatfests are turf war. (Most) snipers don't care about turf, they just worry about how many kills they get.

Every time I see a sniper on my team in turf war I let out an audible groan because I know they will contribute nothing... I frickin hate Moray Towers - my least favourite stage in Splatoon. I can't understand why it's so popular.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Leads the Way for Nintendo in UK Charts

NintndoNik

@abe_hikura how did you play through Metroid Prime exclusively on the GamePad? I thought wiimote + nunchuck were required? Or do you mean that you used the wiimote + nunchuck on an upright standing GamePad? If Metroid Prime Trilogy had gyro controls or even right stick aiming to play on the GamePad, I would buy it again... Alas I don't think this is the case. Can you confirm?

Re: Rumour Buster: Let's Clarify Some Issues With Those Recent Nintendo NX Predictions

NintndoNik

@Jin15 "The only time Nintendo ever had the most graphically powerful system on the market was during the Super Nintendo era"

Umm the SNES was the most powerful of its gen, the n64 was way more powerful than the Saturn and PS1, and the GameCube sat in between the PS2 (least powerful) and was very comparable to (most powerful, sold at a loss) Xbox.

I do agree with your assessment of the philosophy set in place by Gunpei Yokoi though. I think this philosophy was embraced when successive consoles (n64 & GameCube) with not too much innovation failed to move significant units.

In any case, I'm pretty confident that what Nintendo is cooking up will not be your standard run of the mill console/handheld, and I'm certainly looking forward to it.

Re: Editorial: It's Not Fun to Criticise Nintendo Games, But It's Been Unavoidable in 2015

NintndoNik

@Toadsfriend No way man, I am loving this game too!
I can fully agree with the criticism about content (hoping they will add a career of sorts in the future), but I've had online sessions where I'm laughing for the entire match. The 'victory lap' animations some people do after winning a point are hilarious every single time. Currently only playing singles, but I'll power up a few amiibo eventually and possibly see you on the court.

As a small contribution to this conversation I will say this: not every game can be a masterpiece. If every game was a masterpiece, then no game would be. I generally feel that at least some fun can be had in all of Nintendo's offerings, but some games just aren't for everyone - For example: I will be steering well clear of amiibo festival, it's just not for me.

Re: The Pokémon Company Sues Fan for Copyright Infringement, Demands $4,000 in Damages

NintndoNik

People who are upset over this and can't understand why companies sue over copyright infringement clearly don't understand the rights of IP and copyright law. Yes it seems harsh, and sometimes may seem unfair, but he used intellectual property he doesn't own and didn't get authorisation to use for marketing material to make money for his Cafè.

This particular case seems really unfair, but he infringed on copyright. The $4000 probably covers the money he made on the night (tickets, drinks, food etc) plus lawyer and court fees. I agree that the denial of a payment plan is pretty harsh, but there may be more to that than just "The Pokèmon Company said no".

Just because your a 'massive fan' doesn't give you any more right to use IP that doesn't belong to you. If he was smarter, instead of using copyright protected images and logos, he should have used photographs of cosplays at his Cafè or something along those lines. There's plenty of creative ways to promote an event or market your Cafè in a certain way that doesn't infringe on copyright law.

I feel bad for this guy, but as content creator myself, I wouldn't want someone else using my creations for their own financial gain. The Pokemon Company is particularly strict when it comes to their IP - not even allowing their Amiibo to be used in Nintendo games. If he's a massive fan he would have known this.

Re: Shiny Founder Dave Perry Wasn't Keen On The N64 From The Start

NintndoNik

I actually believe that the decision for Nintendo to stick with cartridges for the N64 was an unfortunate fallback plan. Nintendo wanted to move forward with the CD-ROM format as evidenced by their relationship with Sony. But when that relationship went south, I don't think they had enough time or confidence to secure another deal with another manufacturer without severely holding up development of the N64. So, they opted to go with what they knew. Obviously no company is going to say, "well, we wanted to one way, but it fell apart and so we decided to play it safe..."

Re: More Than A Million Super Mario Maker Levels Have Been Uploaded In A Week

NintndoNik

I think this game also brings to light the fact that the vocal minority of good mario players is far far outweighed by the people who aren't that good. So while I consider myself quite decent, something challenging for me would be damn near impossible for the average Super Mario fan. It should also silence these people screaming for harder or more challenging Mario games.

When playing other people levels, I'll give them at least 10 play throughs, but if I still can't beat it because there are 100 different things being thrown at me, or I have to memorise 10 different blind jumps, forget it - I'm moving on. That stuff just isn't fun. The handful of levels I've uploaded are pretty tame for my standards - no blind jumps, and just a moderate difficulty spike at the end of each course. I've also tried to add one thing to think about in each course.

@DrawingPower I think you absolutely nailed it

"I star levels liberally. If a level is functional, at all clever, and/or remotely fun, I'll star it."

This comment should be plastered on the box art. I'm exactly the same, and I think people should hand out stars more frequently - if I think the creator has put any sort of time and/or thought into their creation, I give them a star - even if I'm not that challenged by it.

You sound like a sensible person, so I'll definitely check out your levels when I get home.
