Random: Some Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Cases Have Gone A Bit Overboard

At least we know how to spell Hyrule Warriors in German, French and Italian.

Why don't they just call it Hyrule Warriors 2 in that region to avoid that?

They were just too proud of the game's title that they had to show people three times on the box

This is probably more overkill than Canadian box arts printing blurbs on the back of the box in both English and French

It's good attention to detail by the trade marketing team to be fair. I suspect the pandemic is playing a part in this approach... I doubt it's here to stay.

I only speak English but I have games with box art in languages I cannot read. It’s not that big of a deal. Just pick on language and make the box art look nice.

Though I'd like to take a page from the Spanish version and say that the "Era of Cataclisms" also sounds pretty awesome.

I think it's difficult to do that because I believe the first hyrule warriors had a plot, and this isn't a continuation of that (though I agree, your solution is more elegant).

Yeah I got this one because I'm from Switzerland.
Didn't really put any thought into it, since a lot of products have all 3 languages supported.
We Swiss people actually have a 4th language called Romansh. There's only like 1 town left that speaks it tho.

What would be cool is that everytime the game said Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the game has to say it three times, one in each language. In fact, everytime the game has voice dialog, then the game should tell you everything in all three languages, at the same time! Dun dun dunnnnnnn! You'll be able to learn three languages at same time! We just created a new language! It's called Gerenchian, German, French and Italian in one language. Goodbye English, hello Gerenchian!

Interesting trade-off; you guys get a Super Mario 3D All-Stars game cartridge that isn't off-center, but you also get this monstrosity on the front of the box, which is probably worse.

Looks like what happened is whoever worked on the translation logos put them all up on the same artboard rather than saving them individually in Illustrator. Someone updates the doc in Indesign and hey presto! 3 logos for the price of one.

I wish I could say I spoke three languages instead of just two like a chump. Also, couldn't they just have put "HAYROLL WARRIORS" once, and the three multilingual subtitles in a bullet list below that??

My favorite is the absolute tome of a manual for Donkey Konga in the US that had English, Spanish, French. For a game that was prettttty simple to play.

There should only be 1 worldwide language and it should be either English or Mandarin.

I'm really offended by this.

I live in Wales and have to put up with the English translation on the box, we didn't even get a native translation on our cover. You guys get 3!

vou blame Nintendo for this, but brazillian like me don't have a single localization of Nintendo games/third Party here in Brazil, i have to content to the Spanish or english version of Nintendo or third party games that come to Switch here on Brazil.

For some it wouldn't be an issue but for me it would annoy me (not terrible but I would defo take the german box art with the big 12 age rating over having the game name in three languages on the box).

those are gonna sell for crazy money at some point. Mark my words!

They could just call it "Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity" everywhere. A name like this doesn't need to be translated. Just as the "Hyrule Warriors" part already isn't.

@Nicolai "La era del cataclismo" is Spanish, and yes, I like the sound of that too. (The easy giveaway is that Spanish typically has the fewest diacritical marks, while French has the most.)

I think the AoC cover might just be the best looking Switch game cover thus far, but with three logos it just looks ridiculous.

I'm just amused at the effect it creates of the titular Warriors battling a rampaging horde of out-of-control signage. Strangely appropriate, for a Musou game!

I live in New Zealand and picked up my pre-order copy of AOC only to find that I have the region-correct Australia / NZ cover with the local rating on it, but a PEGI rated EU game card with a German language rating written on it - 'Frei ab 12 jahre'...

I was not aware of these "fugglers", so I must thank you. I tend to like spiky-haired fuzziness rather than smooth fuzziness, but... yeah, I will acquire some of these if I can. They'd look good beside the figure of a Prinny.

Isn't this pretty common? I mean, it's a whole collecting thing in some fields to get stuff in different packaging like this (even called tri-logo), so this can't be that uncommon.

Most games just seem to keep the English name (Breath of the Wild is still Breath of the Wild in French, German and Italian, for example.)

Most Australian Switch carts are PEGI rated EUR ones, I think there were only a few with special AUS stickers near launch.

The German text is because they're selling the same cart in Germany and Germany uses a different rating system (USK).

What about the actual cartridge? They are so tiny that they can’t fit three logos on it.

Why have a single hyrule Warriors experience when you can have 3 times the fun with other hyrule warriors in other regions!!!!

@Tsubasa @bluesun : The early first party games were AUS coded, but they seemed to give up and opt for importing the European cartridges. I believe Pokkén Tournament DX may have been the last AUS coded Switch cartridge.

I assume that all subsequent pressings of any such games are EUR coded.

I live in France. This made me go through my collection of Switch games and I was surprised to see everything was only in French, front to back.

I was surprised because I remember the NES and SNES eras had everything in English, French and Dutch as they were sold both in France and Belgium (and probably the Netherlands). Then the N64 era was multilingual, with additional languages such as Italian, Spanish and sometimes German texts appearing on the back of the box (which looked quite busy). I actually got two instruction booklets for GoldenEye 007, each containing different sets of translated instructions (while everything was English in-game), just like Monster Hunter Tri (pro controller edition) later on Wii with 2 thick booklets (more than 100 pages each).

But the front cover art was never touched. It was always in the small prints on the sides or the back. I don’t really understand why they bothered putting the Hyrule Warriors logo three times and not just once, with the appendix in smaller letters under it or at the bottom of the image. Or even slap a trilingual sticker on the plastic wrap over the English title (if you went through a fair amount of trouble and expense to have someone re-design this you could as well have someone design a sticker).

This just looks like a Graphic Designer intern's first project, and he was unsure if the client would like any of the layouts so he decided to drop them all at the same time. 3 is better than 1, he THUNK

I only see normal boxes here in the United States but yeah I agree that 3 logo thing looks creepy.

Well... they did this to the face cover, but what's on the spine? Makes no sense to do this and then have just one language on the spine.
