Nintendo has just released a new trailer for Pokémon Ultra Sun And Ultra Moon, which launches on 3DS later this year.
The trailer sums up why you should be excited about the forthcoming enhanced version - you'll be able to ride a wave surfing on a Mantine, snap some photos, tackle on a new island trial and discover more than 400 different Pokémon throughout your adventure.
Has this footage got you excited? Let us know with a comment.

I would never think I would see a Kelly Slater meets Pokemon crossover, holy moly.
Jokes aside, there's nothing about this game that really gets me excited to be honest. If it has less handholding than S/M, I might try it. It made me pretty mad to not be able to actually explore the game because it needed to have a cutscene every five steps.
Hooo...
Well, at least there are some Activities to do, not just only Hunting for Pokemons.
My choice is still Ultra Moon, because I have owned Sun.
That surfing would look so rad in 3D, but Gamefreak.
Do these games actually have a new story?
These trailers clearly aren't aimed at us hardcore fans.
Where are all them new Alolan forms at?!
See, TPC, now was that so hard to give us an actually informative trailer? You did it all the time with SM, don't know what's gotten into you with this. Anyway, surfing between the islands sounds awesome.
Woah
@sillygostly
Oh... yeah !
I didn't noticed some Alolan form Pokemons so far.
This looks so cool!
@Gavintendo Judging by the Ultra Sun and Moon poster that was shown recently I would say yes.
@Gavintendo : I believe so. The Australian rating for the game suggests that the game contains a new story (the PG rating now includes "themes" as a descriptor, so something or other in the Ultra storyline was deemed too menacing for the G rating).
Well, um... I guess surfing is a good addition? I rarely saw any surfing game besides the surfing section in California Games, so I'm not complaining.
But the other additions are pretty boring.
Yeah, It's another Pokemon. Yeah, It will be in my backlog.
Oh, great. They waste all those empty construction sites on a photo club that I'll never use. Those could have been gyms, darn it!
Man PETA are going to have fit over this.
Ultra milking
Ultra needs a national pokédex and I suspect it's going to get one
Surfing on a mantine is more than enough reason for me to pick this up.
@Anti-Matter I have completed Sun (eShop version) on my small New 3DS. Should I get Ultra Moon on New 3DS XL, so I can transfer unique pokemons between the games? I don't have a subscription for Pokebank or what it is called, but I have two consoles.
Well that looked dull
Pokemon Ultra Cash Grab
Damn! That surfing on Mantine was the clincher! I was already fully on board for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon but now its like, impossible to ignore!
The ability to surf between islands has pretty much sold the game on me.
Oh hey. Literally surfing.
I've never been less excited about a pokémon game in my entire life
Honestly this is the first trailer of this game that has managed to make me a little excited. But that surfing mini game seems pretty neat.
Still the features I most hope for are improved multi player experience. The Battle Spot is SO BAD. And a full Battle Frontier.
@Minel_UK
I have two 3DS XL too, Old 3DS XL and New 3DS XL.
So, by using my two 3DS, Can I give my Sawk from Pokemon X to Pokemon Sun / Moon ?
Mmm. Not enough to bring up my excitement for these games. Still going to play them, but... yeah. It looks cool though I suppose.
Pokemon engine is great in 3ds...If only resolution wasn't 320×240 and images so blurry it would be such a joy.
@krvstkvlt I like the more cinematic approach of Sun/Moon.
Yes... but, where's the equivalent of postgame from B2W2?
Where's another battle facility with multiple options like the battle frontier?
@riChchestM Seems really trivial. But that would be a check in the pro column for me to dive back into this generation. Again, I know its a trivial thing. But it seemed so off putting having Pokemon, but not a Dex entry in game
@Anti-Matter to transfer Pokemon from generation 6 to generation 7 you need to buy Pokebank. And it only requires one console.
@Meowpheel
Ow....
Thanks for the correction.
400+ Pokémon and actual surfing on top of a Mantine? Count me in!
This looks like what the first Sun/Moon should have been. It's like generation five all over again.
@Anti-Matter From what I know, yes. We should be able to transfer any pokemon between games of generation 6 or 7. Basically every Pokemon game released on 3DS.
I got some serious Surfing Pikachu Minigame Flashbacks!
My trailer reactions:
Photo Club - Meh, won't be using it.
New (sorta) Pokemon available in the region - Saw some of my favorites, so not really complaining here.
Mantine surfing - Probably an extra that has little to no bearing on the plot. But....I can see myself ridiculously enjoying it. XD
Hopefully more new features are revealed, but in my opinion, these games are shaping up quite nicely.
Expanded wild Pokémon could be good, provided they aren't restricted to 1% encounter rates in only one precise location of the overworld, which was a huge problem in the original Sun and Moon. Don't really care about a photo mode or surfing minigame.
The fact these are still two games only coming out a year after the originals make this seem like "Sun and Moon were rushed, this was what the complete game was planned to be."
Then again, that's every enhanced version. I think I wouldn't be so underwhelmed if they, y'know, told us what would be different about these games from the get-go.
Also, we can pretty much confirm that the story is an abridged version of the original at this point as well, right? These are definitely not sequels.
Overall, not bad, but I still want to see more before I cave in.
The surfing seems shallow and failed to make a splash with me.
The Mantine Surf feature looks like a surfing version of the Soaring feature in ORAS. That's cool, and makes the Alola region feel more alive.
An expanded Alola Dex is nice. The painter chick having her own trial is a good thing.
@Seacliff I get the sense the story is more a remix than abridged (which would imply somethings have been cut out, which doesn't seem to be the case. At least that's what I take from the little info released).
The only thing that would make me excited about this is if Mantine surfing allowed you to go to any island you want instead of having a scripted path yet again. Otherwise meh, this is all third version fluff.
Am I the only one who thinks the beginning of the trailer sound like the BotW theme? Lol
Mantine Surfing, SOLD! XD
Seems odd they're not revealing any new Alola forms of existing Pokemon this late. Would of thought it would be a great way to promote Gold/Silver by having some Johto Alola forms let alone sell these games.
Oh well, guess they're just sequels much like B2W2, even done to fused legendaries. BW does have that in common with Sun/Moon in that I thought both good stories didnt need a continuation....
@Seacliff Honestly, I think this gen is much like gen 5 in that its a gap filler while Game Freak work on the new first gen for 3DS (Or in this case, Gen 8 for Switch.). While they could have done shinier versions on the Switch, I'm certain Nintendo's "we've gotta bleed every last penny outta the 3DS before we kill it" stance made it easier to just do sequels while other staff get to work on Gen 8 for Switch.
Probably better that way since I'm hoping we get the 4th Gen remakes on Switch. I want by fav gen looking as good as it can be even if it comes after Gen 8 on Switch. XD
@Angelic_Lapras_King I can imagine it now. E3 2018 we see pokemon switch and at the end of the trailer there is a release date but that's not all! They show a tease for gen 4 remakes...for the 3ds. That would actually kill me.
@Angelic_Lapras_King Probably but depends.
B2W2 added a lot more to the base games than the typical enhanced version. I'm still looking forward to the new areas USUM will have, but it's likely won't be nearly as much as B2W2 with new towns, dungeons, remodeled gyms, etc.
@Beedrill4Smash Doubtful, since you can play gen 4 on a 3DS via backwards compatibility, which could hurt remake sales. I truly believe USUM are the last main entries on 3DS as it has 2 gens worth, plus VC rereleases, of games. It's time for the Switch to be bursting with Pokemon games.
Eh not really doing too much for me this time
The new things I noticed were that Mina finally has a trial which is nice, though unfortunately it still seems that trials are going to be too easy (3 pokemon to fight is not hard in the slightest).
New photo mode that I will literally never use
More pokemon to catch in the wild which is nice
And surfing is here, which is cool since I really wanted to surf between islands in Sun/Moon
All in all with the same plot and general structure, there's not enough here to make me want to get this day 1. I'll probably wait until January to buy these games
So so, still not hyped for these. The games are looking rather underwhelming so far.
Surfing/Surf & Fly Pikachu events 80% confirmed. Really, really disappointed they spent so much time on the photo-mode when they could have made necessary game fixes or added an AR safari zone, since they didn't want to give us Friend Safari. Gen 7 hidden abilities, when?
Tony Hawk Pro Mantine Rider 2017.
@Angelic_Lapras_King It...it was a joke...because that would just be the stupidest thing in the world, and the worst part is that I can still half-believe it happening.
Mantine surfing is a step in the right direction, bringing more life to exploration and travel.
Hmm surfing is Good!!
I think its very odd that there is not going to be just one released game that is a barley different from Sun and Moon. This will just confuse people who are not up to date with the series like we saw with Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum. I was under the impression that they where completely new games coming to the 3ds family until today.
I’m not sure how I exactly feel about ultra s/m. I like the whole concept of what Necrozma is doing considering we didn’t learn anything about him at all in S/M. I just wish they would’ve made this into a DLC and added in other features like traveling to another region (considering fans have been asking for this since silver/gold). Still waiting for the day that Pokémon comes out with a game that gave me the experience that the original gold and silver did
@Minel_UK If you have Pokebank you can use 1 system. If you don't want to pay the fee for the bank, use the game on another system and trade the 'mons in the old-fashioned way.
@KTT Thanks for the answer. I have 2 systems.
@Minel_UK it doesn't matter what 3ds you get the new pokemon games as long as you can enjoy playing pokemon i've have pokemon on the ds & 3ds i enjoy playing my pokemon games & i never get bored of playing pokemon i'am hoping when the new pokemon games come this in australia i get both of them i've got the pokemon sun & moon games now i hope to get both pokemon ultra sun & ultra moon when they come out on the 17 of november i hope you can enjoy playing any kind of pokemon games doesn't matter if it's ultra sun or ultra moon just enjoy playing pokemon ok
