Re: Poll: Is Your Third-Party Switch 2 Dock Still Working After This Week's System Update?

NiallMitch14

@charliecarrot The main thing with early Switch 1 3rd party docks was that the Switch 1 used an unusual PD wattage which the 3rd party docks didn't use so it ended up bricking a lot of systems. Once they caught onto this a lot of 3rd party docks worked just fine.

The Switch 2 uses a standard PD wattage now - it's moreso that Nintendo have different protocols for the HDMI out from the Switch 2 that a lot of 3rd party docks find hard to match. Antank for example have a firmware updateable dock so if something changes they can update the dock via a firmware update and users can download it and apply to their dock via usb C. Although Antank had no issues with the system update so no need to update in this case.

3rd party docks aren't really as bad as they used to be. Just ensure you use the correct wattage of plug for Switch 2 (preferably official plug)

Re: Nintendo's Ability To Ban Switch 2 Consoles Has Landed It In Hot Water

NiallMitch14

Such a stupid non issue as it's been in the EULA since the Wii days and it's also on Playstation and Xbox.

It's not bricking your console - it's preventing you from accessing Nintendo's servers if caught pirating etc. it does seem to apply to the console rather than the account but that's the price you pay I guess. You can still theoretically play a single player game - you just have zero access to Nintendo's own servers.

Absolutely ridiculous how misquoted this is

Re: Metal Gear Solid 2 And 3 Will Have Lower Frame Rates On Switch, Konami Confirms

NiallMitch14

@johnedwin I thought every edition of it was 720p (as the original HD collection was in 720p). The main issue is that the Switch is more than capable of hitting 60fps for MGS2 and MGS3 as the PS3 and 360 both hit 60fps back in 2012 when the HD collection came out...

But for whatever dumb reason Konami has, they didn't bother to have it be 60fps on Switch. The Switch is more than capable for this

Re: 8BitDo Reveals New 'Ultimate' Controller Range, Compatible With Switch

NiallMitch14

@NinjaWaddleDee The benefits of the 8BitDo controllers are that it's a cheaper alternative to a second pro controller and that it can also go to "PC" mode at the flick of a switch instead of repairing the controller between your Switch and laptop.

For reference I have a Switch Pro controller as my main controller for my Switch and a 8BitDo Pro 2 s a 2nd Switch controller and main PC controller (plus analogue triggers for PC)

Re: Switch Online's N64 Update Is Live (Version 2.3.0), Here's What's Included

NiallMitch14

@dustinprewitt - Is it an official Pro Controller? It happens when I use my 8BitDo Pro Controllers on the Switch (SN30+ and Pro 2) but the official Pro Controller (XC2 one) works fine.

Try updating your pro controller on the Switch settings just in case that has something to do with it.

Hopefully you didn't get a knock-off of an official pro controller.

Re: The Genki: Covert Dock Mini Is An Even Tinier Portable Dock For Your Switch

NiallMitch14

@Specter_of-the_OLED - The main issue seems to be the power of the AC adapter going into the Switch - i.e. most 3rd party docks come with their own power supply or people just use a random USB C charger lying around. The Switch needs whatever power the official Nintendo AC Adapter uses when it's docked.

I.E. I have a Skull & Co Jumpgate dock (unfortunately it only supports the original Switch. The OLED Switch can only output at 480p due to some HDMI connection changes made on the system). It's worked flawlessly with my old Switch when I connect it using an official Nintendo AC Adapter.

If the HDMI doesn't work, it won't brick your Switch - It's more about the power that it receives that could brick it.

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Three More Titles

NiallMitch14

@Patendo Thing is nearly most of the good SNES games are already on the service. I will admit to a lot of Square games missing (they mostly do their own thing), Mario RPG and maybe some cult classics too (I love SimCity for example), but the heavy hitters are already on the service.

I personally think the base NSO package gives you a lot already at it's price. The Expansion pack is a bit more up for debate

Re: These Genki: Waveform Earphones Let You Stream And Mix Two Audio Sources

NiallMitch14

I have a lucky setup where my laptop, monitor and games consoles are very close together so my Steel Series headphones USB dongle is connected to my laptop and also to my Switch via an AUX cable so I can mix and match both my laptop audio and Switch audio (e.g. play a podcast through my laptop and have Switch volume low).

This is handy for a cheaper BT option though! Neat!
