@TheWormThatGnaws I've been using NintendoLife for the past decade and I've seen countless hacking, modding, and emulation articles. I even stopped using the site for a few years because of it. Now I see not much has changed.
The idea of a mini Switch without Joycon or a dock seems a bit silly to me. The whole concept, and name, of the Switch is built around console to portable play. It's kind of like making a portable, portable.
I understand the need for a more affordable option geared towards low-income families and children. But maybe Nintendo shouldn't have built the Switch as expensive as they did in the first place. I don't know, but the hardware lineup could become pretty convoluted if they start coming out with redesigns every two years like the DS and 3DS...
DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS, New 3DS, New 3DS XL, New 2DS XL
I wonder if PS4 had such a good year in 2015 because of the FF7 remake announcement. That's why I bought mine that year. Still waiting on that damn FF7 remake...
I feel like the size of the Switch is excusable for gaming but not necessarily for movies, TV, or music. I'd imagine most people would rather stick to using their phones for media apps while on-the-go as it's a lot more discreet. I think in this day and age it's okay for Switch to be focused primarily on gaming. The Switch having these apps wouldn't hurt anyone, but I don't think people care about it as a selling point anymore because they already have a hundred devices at home that can play Netflix and YouTube.
Personally I wouldn't bother downloading any media apps, as I rather like to keep my Switch gaming-only.
It doesn't sound like he's unsure if it will ever reach the market, more that it's not the right time yet. There's a huge difference there, I wouldn't jump to conclusions and rule out the QoL platform just yet.
Ohh this guy, the one that was making those lame jokes about health coveage on the Treehouse Live E3 stream while playing Star Fox. Yeah, no this makes sense now. Not a surprise, I could gather from watching him on the stream that he doesn't have a clue what is appropriate to talk about at what times, and what isn't.
Nintendo needs to stop outsourcing development of Metroid, Star Fox, and F-Zero games and start making them themselves like they used to in the days of the NES, SNES, and N64. That way maybe they can get a break from making Animal Crossing and Mario Kart games all the time, and we could get the freshened up classics with the Nintendo quality we're used to.
facepalm It's not "Grand Upper", Axel says " Bare Knuckle!". Listen closely, it's said in a thick asian accent and covered in low quality sampling so it sounds like "Bao Knuckaw!" But it is not Grand Upper. It makes way more sense for him to be saying Bare Knuckle since that's the title of the Japanese version. Plus in the western version of Streets of Rage 3, English speakers were used in localization to do the voices, and you can clearly hear Axel say Bare Knuckle in that. It's Bare Knuckle, not Grand Upper.
Takeda knows his stuff. I'd be more than okay with it if he became president. Miyamoto is a game developer, 100%. Takeda knows a bit more about the business side of things, and I think he'd be able to hold strong against the shareholder/analyst sharks that try to pressure Nintendo into stupid things like mobile gaming. I trust Takeda.
It's no surprise to see Michael Pachter is still as much of a loud mouth moron as he's always been. So sick of hearing this delusional babble from analysts listening to the wrong people. Nintendo is a video games company, gamers want full console games, not stupid little mobile games. If they go down that road, they really are doomed to become Sega, Konami, etc.
I'm sorry but this game just looks stupid. All that comes to mind whenever I see it is Red Steel, No More Heroes, Madworld, etc. Just another mediocre developer taking advantage of the absence of M rated content on Nintendo platforms, and completely overdoing it.
I would buy more games at full price if there were a model in place that would allow me to try games out first. I don't want to drop top dollar on a game just because I think it looks cool. Oftentimes video games aren't something you can watch a trailer for and fully understand how fun it is.
Back in the day, especially on the PlayStation, I generally only bought games that I rented frequently, or played a demo of. There were only a few I bought because they looked cool, but ended up being a waste of money.
I feel like nowadays buying video games pose a risk for players. And it seems there have become less and less ways to try a game before buying it. Publishers build hype and basically just ask you to buy it on a whim,
Uhh, all he's saying is that there's some small unannounced games, like Miyamoto's little games. Not that there's a sack of hidden goodies waiting to be spilled open at E3. What a clickbait article.
@OorWullie The part that surprises me though, is that people keep buying the same game every year. You read about people complaining when Nintendo or Activision or whoever keep making the same Call of Duty or Mario games, but you never hear people complaining that sports games are always the same, which they actually are. Yet people keep buying them.
@NoEasyBuckets Well that's more or less what I was questioning, is why do so many people buy sports games? I can't say I've met very many gamers who actually like them.
People who buy these things, and download ROMs of games normal people are buying, should be shot. It's no different than going to the store and stealing a loaf of bread. I work hard, oftentimes trying to make ends meet, while trying to put away expendable cash just to buy a 3DS game, while there's dishonest scumbags downloading them for free. I'm glad to hear of this online multiplayer ban, but now I'm looking forward to the announcement of the Nintendo Anti-Pirate Firing Squad to put and end to this crap.
Does this qualify as Nintendo news? I mean, it doesn't relate to anything official. Couldn't we just report on anything that has to do with Nintendo's products then? If I microwave my 3DS does that count as Nintendo news?
Wait... That did happen and get reported on once. =/
No, I completely disagree with this. Simply making the Wii U an HD Wii will not make it easier to sell. People have long since abandoned the Wii, why would they care about one that is HD? It doesn't change or enhance the way you play at all. "The system you all loved" is a vast overstatement considering most people have moved on from Wii a long time ago, and only appreciated playing Wii Sports.
"Oh this is just an HD Wii? I don't need that I already have a Wii. I don't care about HD" is what most people will say. Removing the GamePad and delegating Wii U to simply be an HD Wii would make it harder to sell.
@MAB Yeah, that would be a decade or two of HELL. Do you even own the game? Have you beaten it? Or did you just play it at someone's house for 10 minutes and call it a day? You're probably too busy playing Fifa on your PS3 to give it a real chance anyway.
These sales figures are for the market that Nintendo does the worst in. Obviously fun and cartoony games don't appeal to the average person in the UK for some reason, but that has always been the case. Racing and Fifa are the main games over there. The headlines will look much different once the North American figures are revealed. The place where people have good taste in entertainment.
Of course it will see another Christmas, there are more games coming. This is just pointless banter, the Wii U isn't going to be discontinued next year, it will last the entire next generation. Especially once people are over the hype of PS4 and Xbox One and realize how underwhelming they really are.
Is that VGX logo insinuating that video games are like drugs by resembling the prescription drug Rx logo? I'm probably just looking into it too much...
The game is cheaper on Wii U, so I think that makes up for it a little bit. I'm fairly certain this version was not handled with as much care as the PS3 or 360 versions, and that's all it has to do with this version performing below standards. I'm sure there will be people blaming it on the Wii U's tech, but all you have to do is look at other ports to see that this isn't always the case. In my direct comparison of Mass Effect 3 for PS3, 360, and Wii U, I found that the 360 and Wii U versions were on par performance wise, where the PS3 versions framerate dropped drastically during action scenes. It's all about the developer, and how much they care about polishing their efforts on Wii U.
@MadAussieBloke Don't be like that, you know it's not true. Just because this is a Nintendo site doesn't mean everyone who runs it is a raving fanboy. I mean sure, Nintendo gamers are used to a higher quality standard than most third-parties offer, but they aren't unfair in their reviews.
It's too bad they couldn't get rid of the numbered scores altogether. The reviews themselves hardly ever reflect the score, in my opinion. How can a score accurately describe anything? It can't, it's a vague generalization.
Why is everyone on such a PlayStation high? To me it looks like the boring counterpart to the Xbox One. Why does nobody want an Xbox One? Microsoft actually listened to feedback and changed what people were complaining about. As far as I'm concerned Xbox One is where all the developer support will be, and Wii U alongside it will be the way to go, just like Wii60 last gen. Xbox One for the AAA multiplats and better exclusives than PS4, and Wii U for the best 1st party money can buy.
People complain about Microsofts business models, but nobody is even noticing that Sony is now expecting people to subscribe to PSPlus in order to play games online. So, it was bad when MS was doing it, but now it:s okay because Sony can do no wrong?
@MAN1AC More like two steps forward, one step back, really. They are adding a feature that wasn't there before, that much is clear. They just aren't adding the complete feature.
This is great, but I don't know why they are dancing around making a single account system. All they would have to do is syncronize the purchases already on your systems with a signed-in Nintendo Network ID, enabling you to sign-in, download, and play your games on any other system, but only on your account except for your home system where everyone on the system can play your games. I mean, it's really damn simple, just look at Xbox Live accounts.
Oh well, this is a step in the right direction, and I particularly like how you can buy content for one platform ffrom the other. It's a unified shop, at least.
They must not have dedicated as much resources to this version then. There are other examples of the Wii U versions of multiplatform games performing better than PS3, and sometimes 360. Need for Speed and Mass Effect 3 for example. That game runs like crap on PS3 compared to Wii U.
Yeah, Metroid does look more fun... Oh, that's not the point he was making? I'm just kidding I see what he's saying. It's pretty depressing knowing that there's parts of the world where Nintendo doesn't exist. It's something that I think everyone knows, but nobody really stop to think about. All I know is that a country without Nintendo products would feel like a deserted, barren, hell on Earth. No offense, Poland.
Hopefully Nintendo strives for a more global approach in the future.
That's the thing about Nintendo's early sports games, even if they aren't notable or stand out today, back then it was hard to come by sports games that even functioned properly but theirs always had a certain level of quality you'd expect from Nintendo. The games are totally playable.
