Re: Cliff Bleszinski Likens The Wii To A "Virus"

Neram

He's right about people buying it because they played it at someone's house and thought it was fun enough to warrant buying one, but that's just the thing; the experience of playing Wii was enough to sell them on it.

Where Gears of War on the other hand relies on hype and power of suggestion to sell it. I've played Gears before, but never understood what the hype was all about.

Re: Interview: Michael Pachter On Wii U, 3DS And The Challenges Facing Nintendo This Generation

Neram

He is right about mostly every point he makes, but I do think he is too extreme in assuming. If Nintendo made a blunder by waiting too long for online multiplayer, for example, he says they would be gone "forever" if they left the console business because of it. That's a bit of a stretch, as there are many more advantages that Nintendo can offer other than online multiplayer, that people still want. like innovative controllers and software. Just because Pachter doesn't "get" the GamePad, doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.

I'm glad to see that he spared the time to do this interview, and happy that Nintendo Life did it. I don't hate this guy, as that would be stupid because at the end of the day it's just video games and he's just doing his job, but I still think that even though he's right, he's just a bit too "extreme" in his assumptions to sound realistic and "rational" to investors, while what he is saying is actually unrealistic.

Re: Translated 1997 Interview with Miyamoto and Itoi Reveals Nintendo 64 Insights

Neram

I think the 64DD format was a step in the right direction. It seems to me like it was a middle ground between cartridges and CD's, in terms of cost vs. durability. I think it's unfortunate that CD's had to become the standard, and only did because of corporations wanting to cut as many costs as possible. If you think about it, we as consumers don't benefit much from CD's, considering how fragile the discs themselves are, never mind how clunky and precious the drives are too. CD's are obsolete garbage in my opinion, and it's a wonder we still use them today.

Re: Talking Point: The Unreal Engine 4 Gaffe Exposes Graphical Snobbery, Again

Neram

It's really quite sad that developers aren't taking the Wii U seriously. Nintendo went out of their way to give them what they need, and they're just sitting there laughing at them. I think the reason there was only one or two first-party games at launch, was because Nintendo was giving the third-parties the red carpet.

I can't help but think back to E3 2011 when the Wii U was unveiled, we saw people like Ken Levine praising the system, yet here we are and there's no BioShock Infinite on Wii U. Developers are completely snubbing the system, and I'm personally starting to wonder if it's simply because it's Nintendo, therefore they don't see it worthy of taking seriously, for whatever reason.

Re: Ubisoft: Players Will Let Us Know When They've Had Enough Assassin's Creed

Neram

That seems like a rather short-sighted way to deal with it. If you keep giving everyone Assassin's Creed games, constantly, it will burn them out and kill off demand. If you want a franchise to last, you have to give players bit by bit. Instead of capitalizing on the demand right now and running it to the ground, pace it out and take time making each game that much better, building a loyal fan base over time.

Assassin's Creed is going to become another Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Guitar Hero, or Call of Duty, and will become generally forgotten.

Re: Video: Is This What Miiverse Will Look Like On Your Smartphone?

Neram

I still think it's going to be browser based. I know Nintendo said they're developing an "app" for Smartphones, but they could be calling it that even though it isn't technically an app. From what I've seen, they like to take the cheapest way to do things, and that would be to make it browser based so that it's accessible from any device that has a web browser, even the 3DS.

I hope I'm wrong through, I'd like to see Miiverse fully integrated into the 3DS rather than using the web browser.

Re: Epic Games Rules Out Unreal Engine 4 For Wii U

Neram

Well the Wii U isn't next-gen graphics, so there's no surprise here. I'm sure they could make like an Unreal Engine 3.5 to scale down their Unreal Engine 4 games just for the Wii U, but I highly doubt they would invest in such a thing.

Nintendo made the decision to stay behind in graphics for another generation, this is what's going to happen.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Easter Edition

Neram

I'm not sure what I'll be playing, I don't really have anything on the go at the moment. I'm currently waiting for Diddy Kong Racing, Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer, Duke Nukem 64 and Mega Man 8 to arrive in the mail. Once those get here, it's going to be classic gaming for awhile! But this weekend I might try forcing my way through New Super Mario Bros. 2 on the 3DS, which I'm not enjoying nearly as much as New SMB U, unfortunately. Also, while not game related, I just bought The Hobbit on Blu-Ray and haven't seen it yet, so I'll be getting around to watching that for sure. Have a good Easter weekend, everyone!

Re: Talking Point: An Open Letter To Nintendo

Neram

I think Nintendo went vastly out of their way to cater to third-party developers. The blame is on third-parties, and gamers. Third-parties have personal grudges against Nintendo, or fear that putting their games on Nintendo's systems will somehow hurt their credibility because it's seen as the "kiddie" platform. Gamers constantly want new games rather than enjoying the ones they already have, a vicious cycle of consumerism that is spiraling out of control, making it easy for companies to milk franchises.

There are games on the Wii U, Nintendo has done their part to cater to developers, now it's all on the third-parties. I do think Nintendo gamers need to be better at voting with their wallets, though. They need to stop being all talk, and actually support the games they keep asking for, don't shy away once it actually comes out (Operation Rainfall for example).

Re: Metroid Prime Developer Working On 2D Platformer For Mobile Formats

Neram

Visually this looks pretty amazing, but I'm not a huge fan of endless runners. They seem like an easy way to make a platformer by using touch screen controls, not having too many inputs cluttering up the screen, which is great, but I like traditional level design styles where the levels become part of your muscle memory.

But that's just me, I'm sure there are lots of people who like endless runners, and this game looks fantastic in that regard. I hope it reaches it's goal so it can be fully realized.

Re: Square Enix CEO Resigns Ahead of Financial Losses

Neram

There's not much to say other than times are changing. Simply put, the quality of Square Enix's games isn't as high as it used to be, therefore they are doing worse financially. I see this is as a typical case of 'not the same people involved' in making Final Fantasy, or other iconic Square games that were once top-notch. Such is the case with Capcom and Mega Man, or Sega and Sonic.

Re: Fez For Wii U Is Highly Unlikely Unless Nintendo Pays For It

Neram

Nintendo works pretty hard to cater to indie developers, I'd imagine what this guy is saying would be kind of offensive to Nintendo. What makes him think his game is so special that Nintendo should be the ones to have to pay for everything? This is the thing I can't stand about Phil Fish, it's that he's such a pretentious Hipster b*tch.

Re: Android-based Ouya Console Will Have NES and SNES Emulation At Launch

Neram

That's BS that just anyone can make emulators for Nintendo's systems and put them into products being sold on store shelves, and get away with it. This jeopardizes Nintendo's business stance with Virtual Console, and there's nothing they can do about it? Man, nice legal system.

People can say all they want about open-source vs. closed-source, but I'm calling it right now, an open-source console will cause a crash in the video game industry. An overwhelming selection of junk games caused it to crash in 1983, history will repeat itself 30 years later once this console comes out, and there's nothing but a surge of junk games made by anonymous people in their mom's basements. Just look at the Google Play store to see what I'm talking about. "Oh man, I can't wait to pre-order Weed Farmer 2 on the Ouya!" or "When I get home, I'm gonna download some Undress Hot Babez 16 on my Ouya."

Re: Gearbox: Future of Aliens: Colonial Marines in SEGA's Hands

Neram

I don't really know enough about this game to get interested in it. Last I heard it was getting unfavorable reviews all over the place, and that the Wii U version was turning out to be the worst. If I knew what was wrong with it, and if there were any possibility of Demiurge actually fixing up the problems of the original release, to make the Wii U version good, then I might be interested.

Re: Review: Super Pang (Super Nintendo)

Neram

I loved playing this game when I was a kid! I actually forgot the name of it. It's too bad the Virtual Console is dead and being restarted on Wii U, I would have loved to see this game get re-released on there.
