Re: Talking Point: The Problem With 'Old' Wii U Ports

Neram

I'm fine with ports as long as they're priced reasonably, which they haven't been. I own all the current platforms, so when I see a game ported to Wii U at full price, I would be more inclined to buying the Xbox version at half the price or less. If they were priced reasonably, and had appealing features exclusive to Wii U, I wouldn't see a single problem with old ports.

As far as third-party publishers not releasing their current multiplatform games alongside the Wii U? Well I think they're just snubbing Nintendo at this point. There's no good reason for there not to be the same games as Xbox and PS3, in terms of anything released this year. At least Ubisoft is releasing Watch_Dogs alongside every other version, that's how it should be done.

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut Leaked By Amazon

Neram

If you've never played the game then it's not old to you. What does it matter if it was released a year or so ago? That's not even old. I think this is a good opportunity for Nintendo players who missed out on the chance to play it on other systems that they might have not owned.

Re: FEZ Creator Insists The Game Wouldn't Work On The 3DS

Neram

So, basically he's saying "It's always shown in 3D, so it wouldn't work with 3D." Maybe I'm misunderstanding him but that sounds like he's contradicting himself. By the looks of it, this game would be a perfect fit for 3DS. I could care less, though, Phil Fish is an a**hole and I don't support a**hole's games, so I wouldn't buy it anyway.

Re: EA CEO John Riccitiello Resigns

Neram

I doubt this will even change much. They'll just find someone else to fill his spot, but I think it's safe to assume they're still going to follow the same business model of DLC and microtransactions etc.

EA is, and always has been, pretty damn mediocre. They have lucked out by buying up some smaller, more talented developers, so therefore they have some decent games under their banner. From a players perspective, I see some alright games and I'll buy them if they appeal to me, regardless of whether or not it's EA behind it. Lately I've had some people say to me "You should stop supporting EA and better vote with you wallet.", but I'm not about to limit myself from playing certain games just because people don't like EA. Once the DLC and microtransactions get to a point where I feel that it's really affecting my satisfaction with a game, then I'll stop buying into it, but so far in my experience that hasn't happened yet.

EDIT: On second thought, I did recently try Star Wars: The Old Republic again, and that has become a DLC and microtransaction hell. So, that leads me to believe it's only going to get worse from here on out, for their future titles.

Re: Pokémon Rumble U Trailer Shows NFC in Action

Neram

I could care less about NFC, honestly. The technology itself kind of freaks me out, as it's based off of RFID, which has some serious controversy surrounding it. Even that aside, I just don't see how NFC really enhances the experience with video games. The whole Skylanders thing seemed like a complete cash-in to me, using cheaply made figures with an NFC tag built in, enabling a device to read a simple code of information which essentially just verifies you have the figure. It's a neat idea for kids or figurine collectors, but I mean really, it's just such a worthless idea to me. This is of course just my opinion.

Re: Review: LEGO City: Undercover (Wii U)

Neram

Great review! By the sounds of it, it's exactly what I expected. The trustworthy LEGO formula with an open world mechanic. I can live with slight performance issues and loading times, as long as there's tons to collect and it's generally fun to play, that's all I care about.

Re: Nintendo Loses 3D Patent Case Against Former Sony Inventor

Neram

Well, this patent troll has it made for the rest of his life. He's probably sitting in the bahamas right now sipping a margarita thinking "Hehe, can't believe I'm living the dream all because of some stupid Game Boy. Gotta love the justice system, Muahahaha!"

Before anyone gets offended by that, I don't think the 3DS is a stupid Game Boy.

Re: Miyamoto: "Entertainment is an Unpredictable Industry"

Neram

I share the same opinion about the "games as art" subject. To me, video games are entertainment, and just because they utilize the video format as a medium, doesn't mean that they have to be considered art. I think in many cases developers have turned their games into an art form, I'm not saying I don't think it's possible, I'm just saying video games are "games" at their core. Art should always be an afterthought when it comes to video games, I think.

Re: Talking Point: Review Scores and Unwinnable Arguments

Neram

If it's a game I'm curious about but not hoping to find out if it's good enough to buy, I'll usually skip over the main bit and just read the conclusion. I'll use my common sense to fill in the details, all I need a simple synopsis. I'll read the entirety of a review for a game I'm interested in, though.

As far as unwinnable arguments go, well that's just a fact of life here on the interwebs. The gaming community is full of hundreds of opinionated, and bored individuals who are just trying to get their voices heard. If you're seriously considering a game, or hardware even, sometimes it's best just to ignore the noise and assess it for yourself, make up your own mind, if you have a chance to.

Re: Pachter: Wii U Will Sell Between 30 to 50 Million Units During Its Lifetime

Neram

@hydeks I agree, this guy thrives off of this kind of attention, so the more media reports on him, the more he's going to have to escalate his bullsh*t to keep himself relevant.

I don't even know where to begin with this. It's seriously like he's a 15 year old stuck in an old guy's body. All this looks like is 'professional' trolling. The clear bias against the Wii U and for the next-gen powerhouse systems should be enough to prove that. All their information presented is based on consumer interest being tied to technical specifications and graphics, which in reality it's not. If I may make my own little point here, some facts for you:

Wii sold 99 million units LTD.
-Wii was by far underpowered and the worst graphics of the generation.
-Wii had little to no online connectivity.
-Wii did not play DVD, or Blu-Ray, nor was it HD.

Again, Wii sold 99 million units LTD.
So this guy expects these next generation consoles to sell as good as the Wii; EACH, not combined, but individually? Think about that for a minute, the games spread across both platforms are going to be the same games essentially, so he thinks that console games are going to be so interesting and so good, that combined, these nearly the same consoles will sell a total of almost 200 million units...? Yet this will be the last console generation?

Somebody slap this man.

Re: Hardware Classics: Sega Mega Drive

Neram

Wow, fantastic feature, Nintendo Life. I think it's safe to say that although the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive was competition for Nintendo, that it was integral to video gaming during the 16-bit era. The coexistence of the SNES and Genesis/Mega Drive made for a golden age of gaming.

Re: Team Meat: We'd Work With Nintendo If Meat Boy Made It Into Smash Bros.

Neram

This just reinforced my reasoning for not liking this developer. They are unprofessional and juvenile. What are they, a group of 15 year old's sitting around their computers eating potato chips and drinking soda while watching South Park and bad mouthing each other? These guys are hecklers, they're just being smart-asses and their whole demeanor is a facade just so they can stand out in the industry and appeal to the very demographic they portray themselves as. Keep their stupid character out of Smash Bros. Nintendo wouldn't be dumb enough to include a character so un-renown and that has (thankfully) never appeared on their platforms.

Re: Feature: Series Reboots That Have Divided Gamers

Neram

Skyward Sword and Luigi's Mansion aren't series reboots. Perhaps the title would be less misleading if it were "Changes in franchises that have divided gamers". I realize this is the 105th comment, my apologies if I'm a bit late at pointing that out or if you've clarified it at some point.

I think the majority of these problems could be the cause of having different developers handling these games rather than the original teams. It's arguable that the days of video game innovation have come and gone, so it's no surprise that these new iterations aren't quite received as well as they used to be.

Re: TT Fusion: LEGO City: Undercover Will Be "The Best Game on the Wii U"

Neram

It will go multiplatform, this is a Lego game, Lego games are on everything. I don't mind though, I'll most likely be picking this up anyway. It looks pretty good, consistent with other Lego games, yet something new at the same time. There's not a whole lot in the near future for Wii U, so this is something at least.

Re: Project Happiness is Now HomeTown Story

Neram

Looks a lot like Harvest Moon, which can either be a good thing or a bad thing given how the series was run to the ground. For some reason this trailer didn't do anything for me, what was with the pedophile voice? Probably could have done without that.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo Super Famicom

Neram

"Japanese and American consoles both used the same region chip because of the aforementioned physical incompatibility of the cartridges made it impractical to play them without special hardware."

Actually you just take some needle nose pliers and take off the two tabs inside the cartridge bay. I did that to mine and I play the Japanese version of Mega Man 7 all the time.

Re: Crytek: Crysis 3 Was "Very Close To Launching" On Wii U

Neram

I personally don't give a damn about Crytek or their games. I own Crysis, Far Cry played Crysis 2, so it's not that I'm being ignorant. I just think they're a crappy developer, their games aren't designed well at all, from a gameplay perspective I mean. I find them boring. They should just stick to making graphics engines for other game developers to use, that seems to be their strength after all.

Re: Talking Point: The Slippery Slope of Micro-Transactions

Neram

It's really too bad that someone can't come out and enforce something like a 6-month period after a game is released where no DLC is allowed to be added. The idea of infusing life into an old game is awesome, imo. Imagine going back right now and playing a brand new dungeon in Skyward Sword. DLC is fine if a game gets released complete first, and it's completely optional.

As far as micro transactions, well that's just stupid. Imagine buying a board game where it's missing pieces, and you have to buy them separately to complete the set. Micro transactions are nothing but a snakey way for companies to improve profit, one where the consumer doesn't benefit. DLC is no different than expansion packs, just smaller and cheaper, and that model has worked for ages. I will say though, the only way this future where all games have micro transactions will happen, is if people buy into it.

Re: Retro Platformer Another Castle Is Coming To The Wii U eShop

Neram

This is fantastic, the folks at NoA are doing a great job of keeping Nintendo relevant in the Indie scene. I love supporting Indie games, especially when they get released on my systems of choice. I mean, I support Indie games on any platform, but I'm just saying it makes me happy to support them and keep Nintendo platforms relevant at the same time, being a Nintendo fan.

Re: Wii Mini Shifts 35,700 Units in Canada

Neram

Here I was, filled with pride, that my country actually had an exclusive Nintendo console and now the UK is getting it! Damn it all!!

I'm just kidding =P I really like the Wii Mini design though, it sort of reminds me of the Famicom. I've never actually fired mine up, I got it mainly for the red Wii Remote and Nunchuk that it comes with, so I just keep it boxed up.

Re: Bioware: "No Plans" To Bring New Mass Effect 3 DLC To Wii U

Neram

This sucks, I would have bought the DLC. I had a feeling third-parties would do this, like they did with the Wii. "Yeah, we'll support your console!" at launch and then eventually just throw in the towel and call it a day. EA just wanted to capitalize on the Wii U's launch, they've made their extra pocket change, now they don't care.
