Re: Hideki Kamiya "Would Be Honoured" If One Of His Creations Made It Into Smash Bros.

Neram

That's good news, I don't think Platinum would be the right developer for Star Fox. Hmm, let me think for a moment about a developer that would be right for it... Ah, yes! How about... Nintendo!?

As for Smash Bros. None of his characters are even that iconic really, or would fit in with Nintendo characters in Smash Bros. I mean, Solid Snake was pushing it, but I can't think of any Platinum character that would be suitable.

Re: Bethesda: The Time For Convincing Publishers And Developers To Support Wii U Is "Long Past"

Neram

@fullyilly The Wii and Wii U I could understand, but 3DS? The 3DS is probably one of the best Nintendo platforms in many years. I don't see why anyone would want to box up their 3DS. It sounds like your nostalgia might be preventing you from enjoying the games that are new, and that are actually good or oftentimes better than the old stuff. Nintendo still makes great games, just like they used to, but you have to be willing to accept the old stuff is OLD and to look at what's here and now, objectively.

Re: Shadow of the Eternals Fails To Meet Funding Goal

Neram

My guess is that they will come back and offer the game for PS3 and 360 as well. Whether that would help its fortune is unclear, but I think it might. There's no install base for Wii U right now, and I'll assume most PC players probably never played Eternal Darkness. It just seems strange to me that this isn't taking off, and that's the only reason I can think of that may be causing it not to.

Re: Metroid Fan Film Fundraising Campaign Demolished After Claim From Nintendo

Neram

Makes sense. IP's are protected for a reason. Besides, what's with people needing a movie form of Nintendo's video games? We should know by now that it just doesn't work. Nintendo's properties work best as video games, and I wouldn't want to see them as anything else. There just isn't enough to work with to make a full length movie, the stories in their games are designed to coincide with the gameplay.

Re: IGN Editor: If Wii U Doesn't Pick Up, Nintendo Should Look To New Hardware

Neram

At this point it looks like a 50/50 chance of Nintendo pulling through this holiday season seeing success. Yes, Donkey Kong, Mario, and a Zelda remake are going to make the Wii U more appealing, but let's not forget there's going to be two brand new systems being released during that time as well. By default, people will be wanting the newest hardware for Christmas, simply because it's new hardware, so those systems don't even need quality games to sell them at first. My reason for thinking it's about 50/50 is because this holiday seems like both the only chance for Wii U to become relevant, but also the chance that if they miss the mark, consumer appeal for that system will probably never happen. I mean, if Mario can't save the day, nothing can.

Re: Talking Point: F-Zero GX HD Could Boost the Franchise onto Wii U

Neram

I would definitely buy that. I'm sure they would add a casual mode or something for the more modern audience, which would be welcomed to those who want to enjoy it without pulling their hair out. F-Zero GX would look fantastic in HD, and running in that silky smooth framerate. it's one of the most under-appreciated F-Zero games, in my opinion.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto "Wanted to go to HD Sooner" With the Wii

Neram

I knew they underestimated the public's adoption of HDTV's. Around the time 360 came out, HDTV prices dropped like crazy. I remember they used the excuse that HDTV's would take awhile yet to become the standard, and I thought so too, but suddenly they became affordable and everyone started getting them.

I think they should have released an HD Wii around the end of 2008, that would have given the Wii a lot more momentum in the coming years, and even at that point it would have been affordable for them to do it.

Re: One Piece: Romance Dawn Won't Be Sailing To North America

Neram

They aren't releasing it in NA because One Piece is really niche. It's too bad that the few hundred thousand fans won't be able to import the European version, but I bet this will get blown way out of proportion now that region locking is suddenly a big bad thing.

Re: Investment Expert Feels Nintendo Earnings Miss Will Trigger Multi-Platform Approach

Neram

I agreed with this guy up until he said the 3DS is starting to decline. The fact that he's considering the 3DS in the same market as Wii U, home console market, is his first mistake. Nintendo owns the handheld market right now.

With respect to the Wii U, I do think Nintendo is going to have a hard time turning things around. The Wii was successful primarily because of the motion-controls and Wii Sports. People are used to new innovations popping up everywhere these days, and you ask most of them, they'll call it gimmicks. The problem I see, is that these same people who bought the Wii, the Xbox Kinect, Move etc. don't really care about video games all that much. They wanted the coolest, newest holiday toy, and were finished with it within months.
Nintendo was taking a bold move with Wii U, they were trying to deliver a product for those kinds of people, and for traditional players. The problem is, both of those audiences are looking elsewhere, they're settled in to their PlayStation's, Xbox's, and smartphones, respectively. It's my opinion that Nintendo launched the Wii U way too late, I think they should have released it around 2010 and piggybacked off the momentum of the Wii, not released it while Wii and motion-controls were irrelevant in 2012.

Here's to hoping for the future growth of the Wii U, that Nintendo can pull off another one of its miracles, and get that thing seriously selling. I'm sure Iwata has a trick or two up his sleeves.

Re: Your View: The Issues of Collecting and Owning Download-Only Games

Neram

I just wrote up an elaborate response to this article, saying that I'm sticking to physical collecting of classic games instead of Virtual Console, because of being a bit disgruntled about having to pay more for the Wii U Virtual Console games that I already have...

But I deleted it and changed my mind. I just looked on eBay for Mega Man X and it's going for anywhere from $40 to $60 for a copy.

I'll stick to my $9.50 for the Wii U Virtual Console version, thanks.

Re: Eiji Aonuma - The Wind Waker HD is a "Test Case" for New Zelda Wii U Title

Neram

Oh no, this most likely means the new Wii U Zelda will use the Wind Waker engine again. I don't know about anyone else, but i'm getting tired of the Wind Waker engine, I would love it if Nintendo made a new one from the ground up for Wii U.

I don't know how many times they can rework the items in each new game before people start to notice and become disappointed. I know I was with Skyward Sword. The Beetle being the Seagull mechanic from Wind Waker, just re-skinned, or the Gust Bellows being the Leaf from Wind Waker, but with "turbo mode" basically. It's those little things that stand out to me.

My fingers are crossed that this conversion to HD of the Wind Waker engine doesn't mean the next Zelda will use it as well, but it's sure sounding like it.

Re: New Smash Bros. to be "Something Right in Between" Melee and Brawl

Neram

"With Wii, on a platform where you were getting experiences like Wii Fit and there was an audience that tilted slightly more towards beginning players, we slowed down the gameplay."

Um, that's not true though... Smash Bros. Brawl was much faster paced than Melee. Am I wrong? I seriously felt like it was way more hectic.

Re: Super Mario 3D World Producer Teases New Annoucement

Neram

If you were one of those people left underwhelmed then obviously you don't have any clue of what you want from Mario. Super Mario 3D World is the best thing that could happen to the series, a true 3D Mario. I bet that once the game comes out everyone will change their tune as soon as they realize how awesome it is.

Isn't everyone sick of Mario on a tropical vacation, or especially Mario in space? How about Mario in MARIO, that's exactly what 3D World (and Land) are.

Re: Pachter: Without Third Party Support Nintendo Fans May End Up Buying A Second Console

Neram

Nintendo Life needs to stop reporting on Michael Pachter or I may end up finding a better site for Nintendo news.

Seriously, I don't mean to be offensive, but I'm getting tired of visiting this site just to see negative comments that "industry" people are saying about Nintendo. It bothers me because, from a players standpoint, this crap doesn't actually matter. I come here because I want the latest news from the world of Nintendo, not the opinion of some guy who is an analyst of the video game industry. Reporting on Pachter isn't a whole lot different from reporting on something someone says in the comments section, it's just one person's opinion.

This makes me miss the days of print. When Nintendo Power would report on things that actually mattered to Nintendo fans, be it negative or positive. Michael Pachter doesn't matter, he is hardly relevant to video games or the games community.

I spent the last week discovering new info directly from Nintendo on social networking or their E3 website. Normally being a heavy Nintendo Life user, surprisingly I didn't check this website even once, and to be honest it was great. I learned about all the upcoming games and updates without having to deal with unnecessary negativity.

Re: Time: Nintendo Is "Stumped" By The Wii U GamePad And Should Ditch It

Neram

Right... they should ditch the one feature that makes the system stand out from the competition? That makes a ton of sense...

To me it seems like the GamePad is one of those things that needs to be experienced with an open mind. Most people who try it already have a disposition about it, and don't let themselves see the benefits of having the second/touch screen there. This reminds me of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck being hard to grasp for people used to traditional controllers, the only difference being the GamePad should be easier to adapt to, considering it's basically a regular controller with a big screen on it.

Maybe the GamePad is a love it or hate it affair? Or maybe Time just doesn't know what they're talking about. Probably the latter.

Re: Pachter Predicts Wii U Price Cut, Feels Nintendo Is Losing "Non-Traditional" Players To Social And Mobile

Neram

He's right about the whole mobile thing, but I mean just take a look at the non-traditional gamer, they will go to whatever is the most cheap and convenient platform for them, so it wouldn't be hard for Nintendo to win them over again in the future. It's not the end of the handheld as we know it.

I still don't know where he pulls these numbers from, there's no way the next generation systems will perform that well yet simultaneously be less popular than this generation. So much contradiction when it comes to Pachter.
