Re: It Seems You Can't Play Against Friends Online In Super Mario Maker 2

Nekonokatzen

Nintendo, why do you have such a hatred for online play with friends? Is it because you think your audience is still 100% kids who can run down to their friend's house after school to play? Like in the 90s?

That world doesn't exist anymore, Nintendo. Kids have after school activities and more homework than ever. Online is becoming the most convenient way for them to play with others. Not to mention us modern adults that work and may not be able to see our friends that often due to conflicting schedules and tight time allowances. Playing games online might be one of the few ways we are able to interact regularly. Seriously, Nintendo... get with it.

@Sshingatok I only play my Switch now, but omg do I miss StreetPass. It was fun to collect puzzle pieces and see who ended up in your plaza... especially at cons. I really wish there was a way for them to put StreetPass on the Switch.

No alligators involved? I am disappointed in you, Florida Man.

Seriously, though... lots of people are idiots and do bad stuff while wearing their work uniform. Worked with a guy who sold drugs while wearing his PetSmart uniform... in the parking lot of the PetSmart we worked at. Cops busted him at work the next day in front of everyone. It was reeeeally awkward being the receptionist on duty after all that happened.

@Jeronan I realize that ~90min is considered the butter zone for most kid's movies, but I think that needs to be reconsidered. I know so many people whose kids are obsessed with the Marvel movies, and most of those are 2hr+. If it's good and engrossing, they'll glue themselves to it.

Actually, I have to wonder... so many movies now seem to have trouble being fully coherent with shorter run times. Yet I don't remember that being as much of an issue when I was a kid in the 80s/90s. I wonder what happened?

Re: Pokémon Detective Pikachu Shocks The Competition In Its Opening Weekend

My biggest complaint with the movie is that it probably needed slightly more runtime. The pacing was all wrong. The intro to the city and the main human characters felt incredibly rushed, and Lucy's intro actually makes her seem kinda insane?

The villian's plot at the end was also pretty dumb, although I will admit it was unique. I just would have more preferred something that would have struck an emotional chord. It was more of a, "uh... okay? That's cool, I guess" kind of twist.

Everything else was great, though. The style was very Pokemon, right down to how the characters dressed and the location designs. To me, it actually felt like a mainline Pokemon game more than a spin off.

Re: Sonic Movie Director Promises To Change Controversial Design

@RainbowGazelle There is an extra cynical side of me that is wondering if it really was on purpose. People have been upset by the design since it first leaked. There is no way the studio wasn't aware of the rejection at that point.

Lemme put on my tin foil hat real quick: what if the trailer is not actually the final/real design? What if they put it out PURELY to get people freaking out? Because whoo boy, the internet blew up about it. Free advertising everywhere.

Re: The Man Who Made Sonic A Star "Feels Responsible" For Movie Trailer Backlash

Nekonokatzen

I can somewhat agree that the motion looks better. For me, the literal only good things in the trailer are the spin dash and the resultant secondary vehicle coming out of the first. That part is the only part that actually feels like Sonic.

Also, they definitely should have had Naka in the movie. That should have been one of the first things they thought of. Cameos are quite popular with fans, after all.

Re: Pokémon Sword & Shield Are Being Developed With A Focus On Switch's Handheld Mode

Nekonokatzen

To be brutally honest, I think "It's meant for handheld!" = "we're doing standard 3DS quality Pokemon again. We are too scared to innovate." I have loved Pokemon since Gen 1 days, but it gets frustrating when they innovate a little (like Sun and Moon's lack of traditional gyms... Let's Go!'s pokemon in the overworld and having a pokemon out with you that can actually do stuff in the world, etc) and then walk it back. The game actually looks really unimpressive at the moment. I hope that they can change my mind.

Re: EA Laying Off Around 350 Employees Across Multiple Divisions

@TheBigK While Iwata was an amazing person in general, I think part of that can be attributed to Japanese work culture. Everyone feels more of a responsibility to the company; especially those at the top. If something gets messed up, they usually own it and think about what is best for the company. In the case of Iwata, he recognized that a cut to his own pay was best for Nintendo as a whole. He realized that they couldn't produce good things if they got rid of their staff and made the others anxious that they might be next.

Huge American companies, though? Nah. It's every man for himself. If a CEO screws something up, they are likely going to try to pin the blame elsewhere and lay off lower workers. They also seem to care less about their product and more about shareholders/investors.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Revealed For Nintendo Switch, New Starters Shown

Nekonokatzen

Very mixed feelings. I've been playing off and on since Gen 1, but I've always hated random encounters and am rather sad that they appear to be back. They just get tedious when you're trying to find a specific pokemon. Also rather disappointed that my pokemon riding on/following me is gone again. It makes me wonder what else they may remove or downgrade to make it more "available" to new players.

I will say the starters are cute, and the overworld looks fairly nice. I hope they come out with more details soonish.
