A brand new Pokémon mobile game is now in the works thanks to a partnership between The Pokémon Company and DeNA.
DeNA, the Japanese company which partnered with Nintendo to release Miitomo, Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, and the upcoming Mario Kart Tour, has announced this new collaboration project in an end of fiscal year briefing today.
Described as a "new and exciting smartphone game", the product will be released this fiscal year (so by March 2020) and will be based on the Pokémon franchise.
As you can see in the image captured above, more details - including its release date - will be released at a later time.
Could this be something which ties into Pokémon Sword and Shield? Will it be free-to-play, or a paid experience? So many questions! Hopefully we'll find out soon enough.
Until then, why not let us know what you hope the game might be in the comments below?

Wow, that's huge! I hope it is something different from Pokémon Go.
Eh, Pokemon has too much water for my taste
Interesting and hope it will be a fun game and a game that fit well with touch controls :+).
What will be most interesting to see is likely if the game will be more core focused or casual focused.
Hey You Pikachu 2 or I'll riot.
Oh Snap! (nothing more)
I don't want mobile games.
I want Nintendo games in physical media.
I am betting on Pokemon Go Go. A rhythm game with pole dancing Pokemons.
Just hope I don't have to unroot my phone.
Between this and Labo VR, ONE of these things has gotta have Pokémon Snap 2!! Right?! Lol
More Pokemon is always good news! For the idiots who’re anti-mobile, it’s DeNA making it so it’s hardly going to replace the Game Freak games.
The only way I can see a mobile game as "exciting" is if it's available as a one-time purchase for the complete game, without any purchasable in-game currency that is constantly required to get any meaningfull progress, or any gameplay-limiting shenanigans of the sort.
It could be an awesome game. But if it is using a freemium or "pay to win" model, my excitement quickly gets to about zero. And it's not that I don't want to pay. I paid for some mobile games I love. Some, like the mobile port of XCOM, I paid twice for (once for iOS, once for Android).
Just sell me a product. Not a "service" I feel like I have to constantly pay to play. It's all I ask. Otherwise, no, it's not going to be "exciting" for me.
I've quite enjoyed The Pokémon Company's mobile offerings like Shuffle (though I play on 3DS) and Duel so I'm moderately interested. For some reason, I didn't think they'd team up with DeNA since they've already been making mobile games unlike Nintendo before they made the deal with DeNA. Though to be fair, each of the games have different developers behind them so I guess there's nothing weird about it.
I rather want a new and exciting Pokémon game on Switch besides Sword & Shield.
Since the release of Pokémon Go we've barely seen any side games on 3DS or Switch.
I guess they thought "Hey, people like to throw money at Pokémon Go and other Pokémon mobile games, why should we bother with complex spin-off titles anymore?"
All I want is Red / Blue on my iPhone. That's it. That's all.
@Realnoize 100% agree.
I don’t even think this game might look like the core series but some weird f2p stuff like Quest/Go/Duel so meh for me unless it gives me goodies for SW/SH
Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Snap....
i hope its something that can be played offline, there are way to many moblie games that require constant online access.
one of the most disappointing things about pokemon duel(and the reason i stopped playing it) was cause it required constant online access
Finally something you don't turn off stuff for..
Pokemon Emerald free 2 play...
You pay money to inns. ..
You need to pay 10 gold coins to get to Faraway Island.
Pokemon Snap or the Pokemon TCG would be cool. Having the ability to scan cards or buy digital ones would be nice.
Theres no such thing as a new and exciting mobile game
@nessisonett yes but it's probably the other game they'd teased when announcing swsh which people were hoping wasn't mobile
Can’t wait to pay 9.99 for ten chances to pull a five-star rated rare Pokemon on DeNA’s new game...
I refuse to get excited unless it's not a game similar to Pokemon Shuffle or the other Pokemon games on Google Play.
What about a Nintendo built emulator?
@biglittlejake no chance they'v been re releasing the old games virtually already
I really hope it's a REAL Pokémon game (remake???) Not another spinoff title like Pokémon go. @biglittlejake yes, a Nintendo made emulator would be dreams come true...
How have I only just realised there's a smiley face in eNa's logo.
@AxeltheBuizel .... I would totally play that. Little Pikachu buddy in my phone that I can talk to? Yes please.
