@SirLink God forbid the 500lb hulking gorilla does the most natural thing one would expect a 500lb hulking gorilla to do instead of just being a Mario clone
@UnbreakableAlex I've played a lot great games with a lot of great stories - Grim Fandango, The Sly Trilogy, Monkey Island 2, Mother 3, and Ori 1, among many, many, others. I don't see how you'd think one game is going to change my feelings on Nintendo's stories or my stance on the art of storytelling in general.
@mlt and what exactly could a 3D DKC game do that 3D Mario's already haven't done(beyond just aesthetics)? Nimble precision platforming challenges in a 3D space has already been covered by this point.
Well you know what they say about accounting for taste. Seems like those dissatisfied with Bananza just want a 3D Mario game where he wears a Donkey Kong costume instead of a game designed for/around the actual character of Donkey Kong.
@UnbreakableAlex it might not be captivating for you but that doesn't mean it's the same for everyone else - such is the nature of storytelling: everyone's going to get something different out of it. I for one really liked the stories of both Breath and Tears(even if yes, the way Tears told its story wasn't the best), in addition to plenty of other current Nintendo titles.
@johnedwin "so many did not even get to play these old games"
Then they should just make those old games more readily available!! Focus on better preserving those classics instead of trying to replace them with remakes that aren't always the best way to experience them!
@EVIL-C okay then enjoy having no actual new games and playing glossier versions of older titles that don't often capture what made those originals great to begin with
With each day my disdain for remake culture intensifies more and more. The fact there analysts trying to figure out what "needs" to be remade only furthers that.
@Ralek85 the Mario movie was already a smash hit in the animation side of things - only natural they'd want to reach that same level of success in the live action scene as well.
@TheBigK yeah this. Buying Rare wouldn't really mean much in the end given that most of the old guard responsible for those iconic titles aren't really working there anymore. People who want a new Banjo are just outta luck at this point.*
*Yes I know Playtonic exists but personally speaking I don't really have confidence that they'd be able to deliver a new Banjo on the same level as the first
So essentially they're just continuing to invest in other developers and ensuring that good working relationships are established between them. In that case I'm not too worried. They've had a better track record with this kind of thing than Xbox or Sony has had so far.
@StewdaMegaManNerd "Would anybody really want to listen to Mario speaking in his usual voice for an hour and a half?"
Literally YES. If a character has an iconic voice then that's what people want to hear first and foremost. What is exactly is so hard to understand about that?!
@PharoneTheGnome
"This rando octopus platformer that looks and plays nothing like Donkey Kong is somehow more like a Donkey Kong game than the actual Donkey Kong game that I dislike for not being the Donkey Kong game I wanted!"
Not a bad pick given the timing of the hourly playlist update, but did anyone notice some tracks aren't present? The Welcome amiibo and KK songs don't seem to be listed...
I don't think we'll get a proper new entry until the next non-sequel Nintendo console if we're being honest. Barring smaller titles like HHD, Animal Crossing has always been a "one game-per console" series.
As a passive observer who's only completed game is Sun, I do think Pokémon is in need of a proper shake up to keep things fresh in this era, in the vein of say, Mario Wonder or Bananza. Find new ways to experiment with mechanics instead of just doing more of the same.
This is interesting and I can't wait to see how they've been updated, but I wanna say, Chunky really was kinda redundant wasn't he? DK64 went and made him out to be "the super strong" Kong even though by all accounts that should've been DK's schtick. Glad Bananza rectified that by actually focusing on DK's physical prowess. Dude can pick up a boulder with way more ease.
@Yoshi3 now more than ever I'm convinced Rare is just going to silently croak under the pressure of Microsoft's ridiculously stubborn foot. Which is uh, depressing to say the least.
@Serpenterror I don't think it's fair to even compare the two. Sega still gave enough of a damn to create the best games they could with the best creatives possible and continue to keep making games even now. They've made their mistakes but they never completely gave up, which I respect. Microsoft on the other hand squandered every opportunity they had and flushed their gaming endeavors down the sewer after complaining about how nothing was working even though it's their fault for meandering so much.
EDIT: Seems I misread your comment a little. m'bad.
@ThatZeldaNerd If I could make it 11 years without a new Donkey Kong game, then you can surely make it 8 years without a new 3D Mario. I believe in you.

@SirLink "I mean, he’s not just any gorilla, he’s Donkey Kong, and he's supposed to do a lot more than just that."
What is he supposed to do then that isn't exercising his raw power, aka his most defining character trait?
