Re: Professor Layton Dev Level-5 Has No Plans For Future Games Outside Of Japan, Says Report

It makes me wonder if Level 5 and Nintendo experienced a bit of a falling out. Yokai 3 being based on a more United States style town and being a limited initial release with no reprints reeks of a publisher fulfilling a contract and wanting to move on. The 3DS market was in decline at this time but there was little doubt additional runs of product could have sold out. Yokai’s ultimate failure in the US (game copies at $5 below, Dollar Tree flooded with merchandise) seemed to make Nintendo move toward brushing it off.

Like others said, it seems like Level 5 as company has struggled in the past few years to match the breakout titles they enjoyed through the late 2000s. They seem have hit the rut of stretching previous series out beyond being profitable. I was honestly shocked when Yo-Kai 3 got such a limited US release. I remember picking it up from Best Buy and the cashier stating he had been on the outlook for a copy for his son and they were nowhere to be found ( and seemingly did not get reprinted).

Got one of these for $50 at Target when they got blown out. It is a cool little curio but unfortunately the only comfortable position I can seem to play it in is flat on a bed. Sitting at a table with it is just a excuse for neck pain.

I loved the Wii/DS era despite the consist noise of people crying about their power and gimmick potential. Iwata’s philosophy was a wonderful break from how hung up our industry has gotten on tech and less on unique ideas and gameplay options. He would have been proud of the Switch.
