505 Games has announced that it is bringing humorous, nostalgic narrative platformer Horace to Switch on 21st October and it's up for pre-order on Switch eShop now.
Developed by two-man team Paul Helman and Sean Scapelhorn, Horace has you take the role of the titular robot in a heart-warming little adventure filled with mini games and nostalgic call backs to gaming eras past. Check out the brand new Switch teaser trailer above (or the Steam launch trailer) to get an idea of its eclectic, eccentric sense of humour.
The game got a warm critical reception when it released on PC last year, so it's great to see it making the jump to Switch. We're told that the Switch release will only be available digitally, and will include support for the Switch Pro controller.
Here are some more details from the official PR, along with some screenshots:
Meticulously crafted by a two-person development team comprised of industry veterans Paul Helman and Sean Scapelhorn, Horace is one of the most unique and heartwarming of gaming experiences. The little, big game boasts more than 15-hours of thrilling platforming and adventure peppered with bold storytelling and quirky pop culture references that will leave behind for players a lingering nostalgia for the classic 8 and 16-bit era of gaming. Metroidvania-inspired abilities are unlocked as players progress through challenging platforming areas while puzzles and difficult bosses invite players to further put their skills to test.
Horace is priced at £10.99 / €14.99 / $14.99 on Switch and there's a juicy little 10% discount for anybody who pre-orders prior to launch. The game has got some very positive feedback on Steam and Metacritic, so you might want to keep your eye on this one.
Played this on PC? Intrigued by that trailer? Let us know below.

The character art makes me not want to buy it. Not that I would have anyway, probably. The retro stuff has gotten so played out. Although to its credit, it at least looks like an SNES game instead of another NES clone.
The Switch Pro must be drawing closer if developers are outright mentioning it in PR.
15 hours of this? Yeeeeeah.....no
Pro controller?
I played this on PC and and thought it would be great for the Switch. It is an awesome puzzle-platformer that truly feels like a Nintendo game (except it gets a little dark story-wise and unexpectedly bloody for just a minute a few times). I would recommend giving it a try and not discounting it. It's a lot of fun.
Yes, Pro controller
Absolutely crackin' little game. I highly recommend it. Played it twice on PC now.
Looks cool but I have heard it has an excruciating difficulty curve.
Good news, I have this on my Steam wishlist but would much prefer to play it on Switch.
A trailer with a mysterious cinematic opening that doesn't show anything from the actual game just makes me suspicious.
useless trailer for me!
@TryToBeHopeful the pro controller already exist. It's the one that looks like the WiiU's Pro controller which was already compared to Xbox One,s before iirc.
@Low I think you missed a word in the formatting there:
"and will include support for the Switch Pro controller"
That's not talking about any Switch Pro which doesn't exist but the Pro Controller which exists since the Switch itself was released almost.
That people make this mistake horsy from missing the word "controller" probably confirm that if a Switch Pro ever do get made, it's certainly unlikely to be called "Pro" to lessen confusion.
The Pro Controller is just a conventional xbox-like gamepad for people who don't like using joycons and play mainly in docked mode anyway. And existed for years already now.
I remember Yahtzee’s review of this some time ago. Sounded really promising and then like something I’d get very frustrated with... but still interesting? Download size may keep me away however.
I saw a GTlive of this game, and it really interested me. I am very excited for its switch release.
He looks like a Bonanza Brother! 😆 This looks charming and quirky, and I'm definitely interested.
@Ludovsky They corrected the article. I was trying to say it probably referred to the pro controller. Apparently it does.
Wasn’t Horace the worst 8 Bit games ever made from early eighties? I vaguely remember something about it on Guru Larry’s Retro Corner
@Gerald
You're thinking of the legendary Hungry Horace. He was a big deal at the time! Whatever he actually was!!! 😆
