Update: Sega has announced that a new Aleste game has been added to its upcoming collection for Switch. The game is Aleste 3 for the Game Gear, an all-new entry.
Original story [Wed 16th Sep, 2020 13:30 BST]: Emulation expert M2 has just announced that it is bringing a collection of Aleste titles to the Nintendo Switch as part of its M2 Shot Triggers series.
Aleste Collection – which is also coming to PlayStation 4 – will include Aleste / Power Strike (Mark III, Master System), Power Strike II (Master System, previously unreleased outside of Europe), Aleste GG (Game Gear) and Aleste GG II (Game Gear).
In addition to this, M2 is also creating a new model of the Game Gear Micro which ships with the games.
The collection launches on December 24th and will cost ¥7,480 for the physical version (thanks, Japanese Nintendo), ¥4,950 for the digital version and ¥16,280 for the version bundled with the Game Gear Micro.

The original Aleste arrived in 1988 and was later ported to the MSX2 platform. A sequel arrived on the MSX2 in 1989, which is different from Power Strike II, which was a Europe-only successor.
While the collection won't include the likes of Super Aleste / Space Megaforce, Robo Aleste / Dennin Aleste and MUSHA Aleste, it's still nice that we're getting the chance to play some of the lesser-known entries in this famous shooter series.

Sounds like a real hidden gem
That Game Gear Micro. Proper trouser custard material there.
I thought there was news of a new aleste being made?
Definitely interested, but no "Musha" and "Robo Aleste" is disappointing.
Would of been nice to inc aleste gaiden also. Hopefully there'll be a 2nd collection with musha robo & denin. I assume aleste breed the new entry is delayed now with no mention.
DEAR GOD YES!!!!! Day one.
Great news. Power Strike II is one of the most technologically advanced games on Master System, also one of the most expensive ones.
Pretty terrific news. But I hope M2 gets back to porting more Cave shmups to the Switch. Dangun Feveron? Guwange? DoDonPachi?
Christmas Eve. Now THAT'S cutting it close for Christmas season.
Where to order?
More of a fan of the later Aleste games, but I’ll likely still buy this as gotta get all the shm’ups!
What is aleste
No Space Megaforce? Awww :/
I loved Super Aleste ! …too bad !
Ahh, "incomplete" Shmup collections...
For ~40 bucks, it's no Darius Collection, but it's not cheap either, and since it's missing two of its most famous entries (Musha Aleste and Super Aleste), that's a pretty hard sell to be perfectly honest.
Now i'm waiting for a CAVE Shmup collection without any (Do)DonPachi...
Great, i hope this means we'll also hear about the NEW Aleste Branch again soon.
GG Aleste is really good. Would have been interested if it included the Megadrive/SNES games.
These prices have to be an error? “collection launches on December 24th and will cost ¥7,480 for the physical version (thanks, Japanese Nintendo), ¥4,950 for the digital version and ¥16,280 for the version bundled with the Game Gear Micro.”
$70 for a Switch game, that is a retro collection? That’s unheard of.
Then $160 for the version bundled with the Game Gear Micro. The other Game Gear Micros cost $50..... so $110 premium to have different roms?
Could you check on that one more
Time @damo
Very cool, indeed. And seems that there likely could be a second collection with the SNES and Mega Drive games.
@Tim_Vreeland I see elsewhere that the bundle with the micro Game Gear is like a collector's edition. It looks like you get the game, the micro Game Gear, a screen magnifier for it, and an art book as well. That explains the extra premium over a normal micro GG. It's still expensive in my opinion, but at least there's a bit more. The other prices look correct, though the taxes are already applied. I don't know if those are typical prices for Japan for a collection like this.
The prices are correct by what the video shows, + 10% tax added in. Japanese games are often priced surprisingly high compared to the west.
Looking at the eShop, 7480 yen is also the price of... Octopath Traveler, Deadly Premonition 2, or the Dragon Ball games, among others.
For more prices to consider, there's even higher price points like Persona 5 Scramble (9680 yen), or Xenoblade 2 or Astral Chain (both 8778 yen).
No MUSHA. No sale.
This is an awesome collection, but where's the new game????
Pretty interesting, but I could go for some MUSHA on the go. Including that would go a long way.
Gotta love these oldschool logos
@sdelfin @bluesun ah I checked Gematsu. Yeah this NL article could use some expanding. The physical version comes with a book. The Game Gear version comes with a bunch of extra stuff.
Still a little over priced, but not as bad as the NL article made it seem.
It's baffling that such an obscure collection wouldn't at least include the likes of M.U.S.H.A. and Space Megaforce. M.U.S.H.A. in particular was an awesome surprise for the Sega Genesis with that sweet parallax scrolling and amazing music. Hate to say it, but Game Gear and other portable ports from that era just don't carry the same attraction for me; they were notably inferior to console iterations at the time on practically every level.
Nice little 8-bit collection for starters but where’s the 16-bit big Guns mentioned in this article?? I hope not too long after this. At some point I have to disconnect my Genny and make some room!
Im still itching for Herzog Zwei for US eshop.
I just don't have any love for Game Gear. It's audio hurts my ears.
I would expect M2 to fix that extremely annoying flicker.
@Pigeon
"Too expensive so I will just steal them like a scumbag"
Power Strike on the Master System was great and a big fave of mine, very intense with great music, not so great if you picked up the “swinging handbag” power up...
Whoa, that’s some dedication to do a full new Game Gear game.
Yeah, but is this really coming in the collection or only as a standalone?
Aleste 3... beautiful 😭
When M2 makes new games in a classic style, it always turned out great for me, so i'm pretty hyped for this GG Aleste 3.
Castlevania Rebirth and Gradius Rebirth are among my favourite games in the Castlevania and Gradius franchises.
But where is M.U.S.HA?!
A nice surprise, but still waiting for a relesase date for M2's Toaplan games.
I want to get the version with the game gear micro, but when play asia had it up it cost more than an xbox series s. Hopefully other places will sell it for closer to the rrp.
No Super Aleste? I'll pass.
Sounds great.
@Slowdive
No, the new Aleste game they announced some time ago is called "Aleste Branch". It has more modern looking graphics, a short gameplay trailer has been released about a week ago, so If you want to see some footage of that, search for Aleste Branch on YouTube.
so it's going to be a full price game it looks like. I'm going to have to wait on a sale.
