@jsty3105 I don't plan on buying one either. I'm more confused of why anyone would waste their money on this device just to dump their games and risk getting banned? It's not cheap at all, the cart itself costs $65, but you need to buy the dumper as well if you plan to dump the games you bought. That will cost you a total of $135 + shipping. If you own a lot cartridges, you would be better off buying a sleeved case to carry them all.
For anyone saying Nintendo shouldn't be banning systems because a small percentage of Mig cart users are not using it for piracy. Is there any evidence that Nintendo is banning those people?
I don't get why people making such a big deal about this? Nintendo has already been banning online access for pirates on Switch 1 and no one really made a fuss about it.
Anyone with a hacked Switch 1 knows the moment they connect to the internet without a server blocker while having pirated software on the nand, it's an instant ban. You don't even need to be running a game, as soon as Nintendo servers detects that you have unofficial software, you're banned.
It's funny how naive these migswitch users think they can get away with using it online without consequences. Even Sony banned PS3s using CFW back in the day. As a hacked Switch 1 user, I have no sympathy for them.
Also, stop calling it a "brick". The console is still usable. You just can't do anything that requires access to Nintendo servers. Whoops, this also means you can't update your system. There is no way to update a banned Switch 2 for the time being.
I doubt the Switch will surpass the PS2. I see many pointing out the EOL sales of the 3DS and DS and think the Switch can do the same. But unlike those consoles, the Switch won't get a price cut and the Switch 2 isn't going to cost much more. Also being backwards compatible makes the original Switch redundant so I think sales will likely drop off a cliff.
Is the PS5 Slim really that much better than original as sales suggest? It's only a tiny bit smaller and sells for the same price. I don't get the hype.
@steely_pete The Switch doesn't have quite the widespread appeal as the Wii did. I know many people who don't play video games bought the Wii for Wii Sports or Wii Fit, I'm not surprised they didn't buy the Switch. The Switch is of course a huge hit for gamers, but it wasn't as suitable for the elderly, hospitals, or non-gamers.
This is so great to see. I always seen non-user removable batteries as a form of planned obsolesence. Tons of perfectly capable devices get thrown out or replaced every year due to dying batteries.
@Duncanballs Games and music for me. I really can't stand the exclusivity of movies on streaming platforms, the rising subscription prices, and password policing. If I can't find it on Blu-ray, I don't care, I will pirate it. As for games, I think the positives of digital outweigh the negatives. Personally, I find it a bit inconvenient to be contantly swapping carts or discs. I also don't find collecting games all that special anymore since you no longer get manuals and extras. Your disc or cart feels more like a physical product key nowadays than what a SNES cart was.
Funny to see how many are offended by a 6/10 score for a game they never played before. Until you've played it, you cannot judge the review. Reviews are entirely subjective as they should be. I would be more skeptical if every reviewer gave it a 10/10.
@Spider-Kev That may have been the case in the early 2000s, but by 2006 I doubt anyone bought a PS2 just to play DVDs. The Switch has outpaced the PS2 in sales. The next two years could be telling if Switch can maintain its pace. I think it has chance to outsell the PS2.
@Friendly I would be surprised if they dropped the standard Switch to $250. Its selling incredibly well right now and the OLED model is not worth $100 more.
@blinder2 The Switch layout is actually more uncomfortable. IGN tried the Steam Deck and found the side to side layout very comfortable to play. It doesn't matter if the joystick overlaps with the buttons. You won't use them both at once.
@Kensui This is far better value than the Switch OLED. The OLED model reportedly costs just $10 more to make, yet they charge $50 over the original. For just $50 more you get a handheld that rivals the PS4's performance. Of course you buy a Switch for Nintendo games, but everything else is better on Steam Deck.
Looks like Nintendo is refreshing the Switch every two years. Originally released in 2017, we got the V2 and Lite in 2019, OLED this year. I think there will be a more powerful Switch by 2023.
Flashcart. I don't care to collect. As long as I'm using original hardware in front of a CRT I'm happy. Sadly its not 2010 anymore, the golden days of retro game collecting are long gone. I'm not willing to spend a fortune on loose carts let alone CIBs.
@SwitchForce I don't get why you are trying to argue a fact. You should know that Nintendo don't target the same audience as Microsoft and Sony. Most people will be hard pressed to pay an extra $100 for a slightly better Switch. I don't think the PS4 Pro/Xbox One X approach will work for Nintendo. I also don't believe in your portable=should cost more mentality. This is not a smartphone, its only a game console. Historically portable gaming have always cost less than consoles.
I don't think Nintendo is making a premium Switch. I believe they will take the New 3DS appoach.
@electrolite77 I can't see Nintendo segmenting three similar products like flagship smartphones. I think this new Switch will replace the current one at the same price. I can't see the average buyer shelling out an extra $100 for a slightly better Switch that plays the same games. It will definitely sell worse than the original model. In fact $399 would be the most expensive Nintendo console ever released. I think they want everyone to upgrade to the new Switch. Rather than make a premium model for enthusiasts.
I will say it once again. Sword and Shield graphics is inferior to the 2D graphics used in Gen 1-5. Pokemon should have never went full 3D. Theres nothing wrong with 3D, I just don't think it works for Pokemon. It takes away the charm and simplicity of these games. That being said, I'd gladly take the chibi remakes over anything 3D.
Why so many hate the art style. Chibi's are great as they stay faithful to the originals. I would take it over full blown 3D graphics anyday. I'm so happy this is exactly how a modern Pokemon game should look like.
@Snatcher You expected too much. I think the All Star collection is only a Mario thing. They never done anything like that for Zelda so I'm not surprised it didn't happen.
@nessisonett We already know SMT5 is coming this year so be patient. There's no chance Metroid Prime 4 and Bayonetta 3 coming out this year. Botw2 might be a holiday 2021, but more likely a 2022 release. Nintendo doesn't like revealing stuff early anymore. Every game announced had a release date or window, so whats the point of showing Botw2 again when it isn't ready.
@Anti-Matter @BenAV @TheFullAndy @WallyWest @sixrings @NikHogan michellelynn0976 and NGNYS are toxic fanboys/fangirls everyone should ignore on Nintendo Life. They love to throw shade on Sony and accuse everyone a PS fanboy.
@Retro_Player_77 Sony said several times they are not interested in returning to the handheld market. That leak was over two years ago and by now they do have 5G phones ready. Perhaps 5G will be compatible with Remote Play one day, but don't expect them make a new PSP.
I wonder if Sony if keeping P5 to themselves. I mean Strikers is coming to PC and Switch before P5R. If Steam sales of P4G is any indication, P5R may very well end up being the one of best selling PC games of the year. Why leave so much money on the table Atlus? P5 should eventually be multiplatform.

Re: Nintendo Is (Kinda) Returning To Region-Locking With A Cheaper Japanese Switch 2
If it's just Japanese language in the menus then it's not that bad. As long as the games play in English it should be fine.
Re: Japanese Charts: Game About Picking Up Girls In A Dungeon Enters The Top 10
@GrailUK $599 USD killed the PS3 hype. Also its lackluster game library at the time didn't help. The PS2 was still outselling the PS3 in early 2009.

Metacritic score is sitting at 75. Once again minimal effort from Nintendo unless its a AAA title.
