@Silly_G I struggle to think of a single Nintendo published Switch release that doesn't feel complete without the DLC. Nintendo's DLC has almost entirely been developed and released post release and as of such, wouldn't exist if it weren't developed as DLC. They aren't holding content back, simply creating extra post launch.
As a quick note the new dialogue is actually closer to the original Japanese version. The original English translation actually embellished it a bit. So before anybody gets too upity about censorship (too late on Twitter) it's uncertain if the change was made to make the line less offenseive or to make it closer to the original.
@Patron I've read some pretty angry, nonsensical comments on the site, but yours are some of the funniest.
I can't wait to see your spin on how 3H is a failure even if the game shows up on the Switch top 10 because retention, or whatever thing you clearly have no idea about.
Adding in the awesome US physical sales and good-great sales in other countries I'm thinking Three Houses is nothing short of a roaring success! As a long time FE fan it's quite emotional to see my favorite series, once on the brink of death, become so popular.
@Patron it's literally the second best selling game in the entire series (in the US) with 5 days of sales. It's second now only to Awakening, which was considered a phenomenal success, and is projected to surpass that. The game is already a success and has probably surpassed Nintendo's own sales projections but sure, let's try and hold it to the same standards as a Nintendo AAA title instead of the standards set by it's own series. Because that makes sense?!
One of my biggest problems is that, in the US, whenever we do happen to get an official release it's almost always exclusively through iTunes, which I don't use. I imported the Xenoblade 2 physical soundtrack for that exact reason.
Seems interesting, but there's not anything to really react to until we know the specifics. Outside of the D-pad, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the Light and an OG Switch in handheld mode. At this point it sounds more like something fun and creative the devs have decided to do, instead of an actual Switch Light unique function.
I imagine we'll get it eventually. Splatoon 2 is still highly played and bought though, so I can't imagine either Nintendo or the main player base is itching for an immediate turn around here.
I also believe that the Animal Crossing and Splatoon team are one in the same (at least to an extent) so Splat3 likely wouldn't start development till after New Horizons.
@Sanangelo89 When I made that comment 4 months ago, I didn't think about how people might continually respond as the list got updated. That being said, I appreciate the passion people have for it, even if I don't agree with the games placing.
Also, gonna say this is probably the last time we see the list updated, with no substantial 3DS support planned from here on out.
I'm excited for this game, so the potential for sequels is exciting!
Also, can we stop this "they're holding sequels for ransom" nonsense. If a game doesn't sell well, no studio is obligated to spend years and millions of dollars developing a sequel that also likely won't sell well. And as @BionicDodo said, the statement here was just a simple and honest answer to an interview question.
This also doesn't make any sense as a marketing tactic, since the only people interested in a sequel for this game would be the people who were going to buy it in the first place. Yes, sometimes companies use cheap ultimatums to sell their games. But not every statement like this is an ultimatum and people should be able to think through each specific situation before commenting that "they're holding games hostage."
That isn't even to mention the fact that some of the anger comes from assumptions. Wonderful 101 (also Platinum) had a tiny bit of sequel foreshadowing in it, but stood more than well enough on it's own.
Loved this on Wii U and will absolutely pick up on Switch. That being said, I hope they find a more streamlined alternative to the touch screen than the stick usage from the original. Drawing with the stick felt more cumbersome than intuitive.
Seems like development is starting to get going, which is cool to hear. This is certainly more evidence of development progress than we ever got after the initial announcement.
Gamefreak a few weeks ago: "We know many of you have a real connection with your Pokemon from older games and want to continue your adventure with them in the new games. Well we're going to let you do that!"
Gamefreak now: "...welllllllll as long as those Pokemon are on the list of Pokemon already in the new games"
Good to hear! I quite enjoyed the movie, certainly had some flaws but was overall well done. I do however, disagree with the sentiment that one has to be a Pokemon fan to enjoy this movie. Quite a few people I know, who don't know Pokemon, saw the movie and enjoyed it just fine. It's a cute movie regardless and the plot doesn't require really any past Pokemon knowledge to follow.
Over the past 8 years the system has served me wonderfully with it's multiple beautiful models and fantastic library. It lasted through both my high school career and my college undergraduate career. My favorite system of all time as of now, and one I'm sure to remember fondly for a long time.
That being said, recently a professor brought her 6 year old daughter to class who proceeded to sit at the front desk playing her New 2ds XL. At that point I realized "this system line is literally older than some of the kids playing on it". The system has lived a wonderful life, far longer than anybody expected at it's unfortunate launch, and though it's time to go it's going out with all the dignity expected from a Nintendo handheld.
While the pre-recorded video lacks some of the gravitas of the live show, I think we can all agree that their track record with the video directs has been far better than that of their live presentations (lest we forget the ehh that was the January 2017 Switch event)
Releasing a remodel only a few months after the previous remodel sounds... not smart. I mean, I still doubt the entire legitimacy of this rumor. Of course Nintendo is working on a remodel but releasing 2 at once seems entirely too messy for a system that has kept it's marketing so straightforward and clean.
A sequel would be an easy day one buy for me, as the original still stands as one of my favorite Switch games. Anybody who hasn't played this yet and even has a slight interest in strategy games absolutely needs to give this a try (And no, I don't care how much you "hate" the Rabbits). The game goes on sale pretty frequently so it's easy to pick up from the eShop.
Can't wait to play with this! Stage builder was a lot of fun in Brawl but it had quite a few problems I wanted addressed in Smash 4. Some of those problems we're addressed, but brand new ones were added and overall Smash 4's stage builder felt more like a sideways movement than an upwards one. Hopefully here we get a stage builder with less limitations than both Brawl and 4.
@Kevember Except if a game looks and plays worse than modern games, it's absolutely going to impact the enjoyment of somebody playing it for the first time. Which is why many reviews will often site "poor ageing" as a reason for down gradeing a game. As somebody who grew up after the N64/PS1 era of gaming, I find most games from that era pretty hit or miss for me. For example, I think Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time have held up pretty well, I enjoy both games quite a bit. Mario Kart 64 on the other hand, I found impossible to enjoy having come from playing the modern Mario Karts. It's ok if you can enjoy games from this period just as much as when you first played them, in fact I'm glad you can. But how they've aged is absolutely an important subject when discussing how much they can be enjoyed by modern audiences.
Glad to see a Fire Emblem game! Haven't seen a Fates run through yet (mostly because it's my least favorite) but Fire Emblem games are always pretty interesting. Though, skipping enemy turns makes the post Radiant Dawn games a little harder to follow.
Awesome to hear! Monolith Soft has proven themselves as both a quality second party developer and as a valuable support developer for Nintendo's in house team time and time again, so their continued involvement can only be a good thing. Whenever the next game actually arrives is anybody's guess really. Next year or 3 years from now, who knows.
@MrDisappointed Honestly, that's completely fine. I really enjoyed my time with the game and would definitely put it amongst my favorite Zelda games. And for the most part, the game does hold up well (a testament to how revolutionary the game was for it's time). It just didn't stand out to me as being so far greater than every other game ever made that we need to have dozens of different reviews and articles in modern time referring to it as "the greatest game of all time."
Lovely list of games all together. The 3ds is my favorite video game system ever and this list just works on demonstrating why. Great titles from a variety of Nintendo and 3rd party properties.
That being said, can we please stop putting Ocarina of Time on the top of every list. As someone who was born in the middle of the N64 era and grew up after it's conclusion, I didn't play OoT until the 3ds remake. Honestly, it's a great game. But the amount of dated design choices and flaws within keeps it well away from my favorite of all time. Obviously this is a community voted list and I'm not going to ask everybody to just ignore their nostalgia. I just get a little tired of seeing it brought up so often when plenty of other games have taken what it did and improved upon it.
Whenever the subject of a "Budget Version" comes up, I always have to wonder "couldn't they just lower the price of the current model, while releasing a slightly upgraded model close to the current $300 price point." It's been out for 2 years now, and I imagine they could drop the price at this point and still make a profit. Either way, I'm not saying it's for sure not happening, but I am staying sceptical.
Love seeing Graceful Explosion Machine up there! Not necessarily my favorite on that list (not with Celeste or Hollow Knight up there) but I've had a soft spot for it ever since it held me over in the 2017 Zelda - Mario Kart drought
Darn, I'll miss seeing the abysmal Xbox sales each week. Not because of petty console fanboyism, Xbox has always done fine without Japanese support, but because it was just such a funny situation.
@BlackenedHalo Octopath was a semi-major Switch exclusive last year, and thus most of its fans are also Nintendo fans. This isn't really a big stretch.
@Angelic_Lapras_King With Shadow Dragon on DS there isn't really much of a reason to play the old Famicom Fire Emblem other than the novelty. Shadow Dragon keeps most of the original game intact with slight improvements, and the Famicom FEs are VERY slow. It'd be nice to get transitions of FE4-6 or FE12 though.
Just a quick PSA for all those who want to try out Fire Emblem 1: You can download Famicom Online from the JP eshop and use your own NSO attached account to play.
I mean, it appears to be another "slightly better looking than the last but with little change to the formula" Pokemon game that GF can pump out evey couple of years. It doesn't necessarily look bad, nor have we seen enough for me to fully pass judgment, but what I saw certainly didn't excite me too much. Also didn't disappoint me though because I have never expected GF to change much from game to game.
Always thought it was weird that the data for the SNES games was there in the first place. I like the idea of keeping the different consoles in seperate apps.
Loved the game on Wii U and definitely would pick it up again on Switch. I'd like some control scheme tweaks as the gamepad isn't here and I always found the joystick alternative kind of clunky.

@NIN10DOXD That's honestly fair and I agree it was better, I just feel people need to do more research before constantly screaming censorship.
