@Shadowmoon522 Well I meant more main line titles. But if you want to throw in spin offs then Dash isn't even the worst. Not when... uhg... My Pokemon Ranch exists. Died a little mentioning that.
Still, I've actually been enjoying Let's Go a bit more than I did Sun. Sun is easily my least favorite game in the entire mainline series, but those were more personal problems than they were actual objective issues. I can see very easily see why LG would be someones least favorite, even if I do like it.
@Anti-Matter Hunting balloons with Luigi is the fastest way of getting coins. Just go for the larger reward balloons and you can build up coins pretty darned fast.
@BitLounger Fire Emblem and Daemon X Machina are both confirmed next year. Bayonetta and Metroid Prime are both unknowns at this point. Either way, it is worth remembering that none of Nintendo's holiday titles this year (Mario Party, Pokemon, and Smash) were known about until well into 2018.
I'm thinking Metroid will take the Xenoblade 2 spot next year of the "more niche, but hardcore pleasing" end of the year tile for 2019. If it does release then, it will have been the same amount of time since it's e3 announcement and release as Breath of the Wild would have had before that was delayed to be ported to Switch.
@Muddy_4_Ever Heck, I loved W101 and I could point out probably a dozen things that need to be fixed. Had a lot of personality and overall fantastic general gameplay loop, but it was a very flawed game. If it does come to Switch a rework would be very nice (and necessary with the gamepad not being a thing on Switch).
Honestly, I'm pretty interested in this now. I think the pokemon have been translated as best as you could into live action (Which with Pikachu, works great, but with Mr. Mime, looks a little strange). Still, looks to be headed in a fun direction.
@Agramonte What does failure mean to you? Almost every Nintendo published title has sold great for it's respective series. On the third party front Bethesda recently said that Switch development has become a priority so their games must be doing well enough, and the success of Octopath Traveler actually surprised Square. This isn't even mentioning the success many indy titles are seeing on Switch. A game doesn't have to sell 8-9 million to be considered a success.
@jockmahon I think that depends on cost of living. Here in Nebraska, were cost of living is relatively low, $33,000 would be liveable while $71,000 would make for a pretty comfortable life. Of course, I don't know what the cost of living would be in Japan, so I have no idea if this is a good amount or not.
With Nintendo themselves choosing the characters, I do wonder how this will effect the chances of less relevant characters like Geno. With Sakurai mainly choosing I definitely felt like he had a chance, but Nintendo may want to utilize the DLC to promote their current games and possibly improve third party relationships.
@PtM I think he was referring to how the base roster was chosen before Xenoblade 2, but either way, I'm still very uncertain of Rex's chances. Especially now with Nintendo themselves making the character choices.
@PtM Not really a given, plus the headline in a little misleading. The actual tweet makes it seem as though the selection was just now completed, which lines up with what Bill said back in June.
@Snaplocket Nintendo has a tendency to overlook X, and while I agree that Elma would be great for Smash the fact that there isn't any X music here and there is 2 music speaks volumes for her likelyhood. Rex also isn't my favorite 2 character (Morag gets that distinction) but if a Xenoblade character gets in, I think he's the most likely.
@JaxonH I think the only hard deconfirm there is Springman. While it's never been officially stated that an Assist can't become a character, the point of ATs is to get characters in the game that wouldn't make it into the game otherwise (i.e. as a fighter).
Dixie being a spirit isn't really a good deconfirm, as Lucas had a trophy in Smash 4 before he was decided upon as a DLC character.
Lastly, Rex is just confusing. On one hand, having a Mii-costume would seem to soft-deconfirm him, as having a costume is a nice way of giving people the chance to play as a character without actually putting them in the game. On the other hand, Sakurai said that the only reason he isn't in this game is because Xenoblade 2 was announced after the roster was decided. So, Sakurai wants him in the game (which is obvious from how much he loves Xenoblade 2), and now would be when he's deciding upon DLC characters so Rex could certainly be added now. It wouldn't be the first time a fighter had a mii costume.
Also, I gotta say that as more "hard-core" Nintendo fans it's really easy for us to say "Why Isabelle, or Incineroar instead of fan-requested characters like Geno, or Isaac, or even Banjo." But the truth is both of the formerly mentioned characters are currently relevant characters from two of Nintendo's premium selling series. So while they aren't quite as highly requested amongst the hard-core (though they're still somewhat requested), they'll likely be useful in selling the game to a more general audience (you know, the people who make up the large majority or game sales). The highly requested characters on the other hand, while cool request, are often from older dead series, or haven't been relevant in their series for quite some time. I think the six purely new characters are a good balance of newer, more relevant characters to connect with the general buyer and older, fan-requested characters to connect with the long time hard-core fanbase.
I've come to really hate leaks lately. Whether they're real or not, if they're convincing they can really take the wind out of a developer's sail. The reaction to the (real) Mario and Rabbids leak was extremely negative, but the actual reveal showed how much care and charm was actually put into the game. In this case, the "Grinch" leak convinced people to believe in extremely unrealistic expectations and be disappointed when only 2 more characters were announced. This was all in spite of the many, many times we were told not to expect too many more characters. I wish people would just let developers reveal their games how they want to instead of using a real or "well-done" fake leak to get their couple weeks of fame (at most).
Should be noted that the website says that registering the physical release of the game before Feburary will still get you Piranha Plant, so it's not just for digital buyers.
@Spectra No, because that's not how any of this works. If Smash didn't exists then there wouldn't be a direct this week at all. If Smash had been relegated to a shorter time at e3 then the direct would have mearly been shorter. Smash isn't taking any time away from other games. Nintendo doesn't have a limit on how long a direct is or how many there can be. Many people who are excited for Smash want more information. I understand if Smash isn't your thing but stop trying to take away from other's excitement just because you don't care. This has quite literally no actual effect on you.
@Syrek24 Honestly, I just want more Xenoblade representation period. Music, stages, maybe an X or 2 assist trophy. The series has grown significantly since Smash 4 and I'd like to see Ultimate reflect that.
@Angelic_Lapras_King They're likely a little too new to be in the base game considering that the final roster was decided quite a while before Xenoblade 2 came out, but they're my most wanted DLC character. And Sakurai loved that game so I think they're almost a shoe in.
Been waiting for this! Hopefully we see the final roster this time around. Though I'm sure the rest of the 40 minutes will be dedicated to single player content. Either way, this is the final direct for the game so it's going to be a blowout.
@Capt_N The fact that there's so few new stages would usually bother me, but the amount of stages returning that weren't on smash 4 or haven't returned since their original games is just as exciting. Saffron City, Big Blue, Frigate Orpheon, ooh boy. That's not to mention all the 3ds stages I'll be able to play with my friends lag free.
Having played Super Mario World first, this game has always felt a little lackluster having played it afterwords. Still, it's a pretty darned good game for the time and one of the few NES games I still find quite playable today.
@Tasuki You mean like the Mario Kart portion of the Nintendo Land at Universal? Which is a project they've been working on for quite a while, well before this lawsuit happened. While I don't always like the way Nintendo treats fan projects, in this case they had every right to sue a company who was using their IP to make money.
This reinforces my fear that once Smash comes out, the gamecube controller will begin to work only with Smash. Right now, the GC controller works with most games because the system registers it as a pro controller. But if they update the sytem to recognize the GC controller separately for what it actually is, then it would likely make it so the controller and adapter became completely useless for anything other than Smash (just as it was on the Wii U).
Really, I'm not the biggest fan of attaching all of these titles to the online service, but $20 a year is a lot cheaper than buying all of the games I normally would, so It's a trade off. For this news specifically, anyone trying to paint this as a terribly bad thing is just looking for something to complain about at this point. I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect that someone who is paying for something called Nintendo Switch ONLINE, has decently regular connection to the internet. This is much better than my initial fear of having to connect each time.
It was quite solid. Isabelle was exciting, Animal Crossing is very welcome, and Yoshi is looking positively wonderful! There were a few slow portions but overall it made me feel quite confident in next year's lineup.
@fadedcolors Well Fire Emblem is a Spring title so hopefully that comes out before e3. But if Metroid and Bayo 3 are confirmed for next year 2019 is going to be a year to remember.
@javman05 I think between Smash and Pokemon, Nintendo doesn't need any more help shifting systems this holiday season. That being said, we do need a better idea of what 2019 is going to look like. (Though I doubt we'll get anything substantial with this upcoming direct. I don't think we'll see any of Metroid until next e3).
This is honestly the time I expected it to be, so this is pretty believable. I've noticed a lot "but we know everything already" comments, but honestly we really don't. Nintendo Directs are normally dedicated to 1st party games, and I'm expecting the same here. Either way, I'm not really expecting a lot. Some Online info, some Smash Info, maybe a bit of Mario Party, Yoshi, possibly some Fire Emblem information. I don't really need much more.
I loved Whooly World on Wii U, so I'm extra excited to hear more about it! I was pretty confident that we'd see it today, but this basically confirms it's in the (now delayed, of course) direct.
@Likethepear Ah yes, you're understanding of geography is great. Comparing 3000 miles to 500. And for anyone who doesn't quite get it, Japan isn't the U.S., it's a relatively small, densely populated, Island Nation. When a large natural disaster hits one part of the country (half of the island is without power at the moment and likely will be for the next week), it affects the entire country. Resources have to be redirected, almost everyone in the country somehow feels the effects. Nintendo is a Japanese company, this affects them. People lost their lives and loved ones, get over yourself.
I mean... I sure hope so. Unlike the Wii U, the Switch should have a normal 5 to 6 year lifespan (possibly more). BotW had some minor problems, but overall the engine was fantastic. They should really just reuse the same engine, allowing them to easily make another game before the Switch goes away. Based on this statement I'm guessing they haven't quite decided what to do yet. This 5-6 years between console iterations shouldn't need to continue when you already have the fantastic framework that BotW gave you.
Edit: Ah, I now see that this comes from last year. Well, hopefully they've decided the direction to go from here.
I'm expecting about 5-10 minutes of Smash, Probably a quick segment on Super Mario Party, online info, info on some 2019 releases, and 5-10 of 3DS info.
Well I certainly don't have the time to drive 5+ hours to demo this game, kind of wish they at least did this as widespread as they did for Smash 4. We got that here in Omaha.
@Agramonte Yeah, but the games the Wii U actually got weren't really the problem, as most of them were generally pretty good. It's nice to see those games get a second chance to be fully appreciated. But yeah, the 3DS was (and still is) a fantastic system that made it completely worth it to be a Nintendo fan.
This honestly isn't too surprising based on how the Joycon is used in game. It seems like this will be a good demonstration on the Joycon's full functionality.
This game is becoming more appealing each time I see it! This mode looks like a lot of fun, as do all the extra modes in the game. Most importantly though, the return to standard Mario Party gameplay as the main mode is fantastic.
@thesilverbrick I do wonder if stage morph might put a little restriction on what stages can be chosen. Jungle Hijinx might cause some problems if it wanted to morph while players were in the background, and Orbital Gate Assault is easily the most complex stage the series has ever had. That doesn't explain Whooly World, but it may offer an explanation for the other two.
@sword_9mm Really? You used Zelda as an example? Smash games almost always outsell Zelda games on each platform both series are featured on (the only exception is OoT). The amount of people who try to say "Smash isn't a system seller" floors me. It takes all but 10 minutes to do the research necessary to see that Smash is probably Nintendo's 4th consistent best selling series.
This is a big get for the system! Haven't gotten Doom yet but I think it's safe to say that Bethesda's releases last year sold well and hopefully Nintendo can keep that relationship alive.
