@MoonKnight7 While drops are fairly common for most consoles, the Wii's sales drop was pretty drastic and indicative of the systems most major problem being it's lack of a true healthy and sustainable market base. The Wii's major focus was casual audiences, a demographic that more or less had moved on to mobile gaming by 2011. In contrast the Switch has targeted multiple demographics of different ages and genders, from almost all different backgrounds of gaming experience. I've seen a lot of Facebook friends around my age (20s) either buy a Switch for themselves or express interest in doing so. It feels like it's success is a lot more sustainable than the Wii's and because of this I feel like it has a really good chance of actually beating the Wii, at least by a little bit.
I decided to try it out and it definitely worked. It took a couple hours of work, but seeing as I earned nearly 200,000 bells, the time spent feels appropriate. Quick note, before you put all the work into doing this make sure the island actually has bugs in the first place. My wife tried the same tactic but didn't realize till after she put all the work in that the island didn't have any bugs.
This feature was the real game changer for me. With the absurd amount of customization options within the game, this entry may bring me coming back for even longer than the previous ones (of which I played for years).
@KingBowser86 I would also hope so too, but I remember an Astral Chain article (focusing on a similar topic) comments section having a handful of people accusing Platinum of "holding the sequel ranson". But I definitely agree that Nintendo fans' general aversion to comments like this is pretty well earned thanks to companies like Capcom and EA.
A sequel has been my biggest hope for quite a while now, so I'm glad that the (possible) series is getting a chance to prove itself.
Also, before anyone comes in here talking about Platinum trying to "force people into buying the game" with this comment, remember that this is how every series works. If the first game doesn't sell well, then there's no reason they'd make a sequel.
@kenyowa I think a big part of it stems from the Wii's lack of satisfactory traditional controller which made the GC controller essential through the Wii era, building upon the already existing nostalgia for the controller. Now it's just kind of a Smash staple, even though (imo) the Wii U pro controller and Switch Pro controller are superior controllers. It's also worth noting that wired controllers tend to be easier to deal with at tournaments.
@Panopticon The money seems to be mostly to fund publishing duties like advertising and what not. So the game is likely done, or mostly done, and they just need the money to actually get the game out there into the public.
@Xansies I was just talking about the general "Smash Characters as advertisement" conversation as a whole, not really in full reference to Byleth. Quite honestly, I don't even know if Byleth is being used as an advertisement for the DLC. Three Houses sold fantastically on it's own merit, and a lot of people (such as myself) bought the DLC pass well before Byleth even got announced. I think Nintendo just likes to push Fire Emblem as a series because it does well (now), there's a lot of possible character options, and the mobile title makes them a truck load of money.
@NEStalgia I think people overestimate Smash's ability to advertise games that haven't somehow made their own impact already. Contrary to popular belief, Brawl did virtually nothing for FE. After Brawl, the next 3 FE games all stared a protagonist featured in Smash, and all three failed miserably. People knew the characters, but that did very little to actually increase FE sales. In contrast, Awakening came out well after Brawl, featuring brand new characters, and become the first FE game to sell a million copies (and got pretty close to selling 2 million) well before Robin and Lucina were even announced for Smash. Smash can certainly generate interest in a new series, but it's unlikely that that interest will lead to anything unless some sort of positive conversation is already formed around that game or series. As of such, I doubt advertising a long dormant series using Smash when there hasn't been a game in said series for years would likely do much to help bring it back from it's hiatus.
@westman98 I'd love to see Codename STEAM get a second chance, but it would still be entirely Nintendo exclusive more than likely. Unlike Platinum, Intelligence Systems is a secondary Nintendo developer, being created by and only ever working with Nintendo.
@Octane They did, but that's explained in the FAQs section of the Kickstarter. It seems that this game somehow falls outside of the original agreement and thus needs to be funded in some other way
I was hoping to get an answer to the Wonderful 101 rumors, not more questions. I mean, I'm pre-hyped for whatever it is, but now I'm even more confused
Hmm, the weirdest part about this entire Kickstarter rumor is the release for other consoles. The game (and even ip I think?) is owned by Nintendo, and thus they would have to approve of those releases.
@fafonio I wasn't calling the game a budget title? And by budget title, I was literally just referring to the actual price of the game being 60 bucks (here in NA), which would make it a full priced game instead of a budget title (which would be a game priced closer to 40 or 30 dollars). Also, I agree that the game is phenomenal, but Nintendo's choice to resell 5 or 6 year old games at full priced feels a little scummy. That being said, to get this game fully working on Switch mechanically it would probably take quite a bit of extra work which would help to justify the price point.
@Ventilator I don't think I'll ever get over the lack of the Bayonetta 2 special edition here. Such a gorgeous package. And I remember that darned free game situation. We got 4 games, 2 of which I already had, and 1 of which was Wii Party U. Luckily I didn't have Pikmin 3 yet, but it definitely felt odd when you guys had 6 more games to pick from.
@Ventilator Weird. The suggested retail for Donkey Kong was 50 bucks for sure, and wonderful 101 was definitely at least 50 (again, could've been 60) so you were able to get all of those games at a discount at launch. I don't remember Captain Toad but I think it may have been 40 bucks?
Edit: Ok, actually just looked to see that you're in Norway so we're talking about 2 different currencies here. Sorry, saw the 50-60 dollars statement and just assumed we were in the same country.
@Ventilator The original game released for 60 bucks if I remembered correctly, the standard price of Wii U games. Like, I agree that ports shouldn't be priced at full, but W101 certainly wasn't a budget title on Wii U.
@sanderev In the article you linked to Furukawa is definitely talking about a true successor such as a Switch 2, not something like the Switch light that came out last year. Most people like to comment "why you always lying Nintendo" when articles like this come out, but if you go back and carefully read what Nintendo says you'll find that they're often very careful with their wording and very rarely actually lie.
When the Switch came out, the Wonderful 101 was a game that I had some reservations about buying of it ever came to Switch. But it's been long enough now and teased enough that it's my most anticipated port now. I also just recently discovered that my Wii U copy was misplaced a couple years ago when we moved. So this will be a welcome release.
@electrolite77 I think that making a strategy RPG a true A Teir series is an honestly impossible task. But with the past few games the series is definitely one of their top B selling series, seemingly doing better than even Kirby.
Oof. "No Plans" is usually Nintendo's way if saying "it's not happening, so stop asking". Usually, a "nothing to announce at this time" more often than not hints at it possibly happening.
@electrolite77 there's really no shame to be had for Three Houses. I didn't see it reported here but the GameXplain video talked about it and 3H is currently sitting at 2.58 million (.4 million than last quarter I believe) which puts it as the second best selling game in the series, and will likely surpass Fates and be the first in the series to hit 3 million by the end of it's lifetime (if not 2020). For a series that hadn't even hit 1 million copies until 3 entries ago, this is a tremendous feat. Though, after typing all of this I realize that you may have meant "same for Three Houses", but I already took the time so I'm hitting reply.
I doubt it's Pokemon with the DLC coming out this year, and the others series such as Bayonetta and Pikmin don't really have the sales to act as holiday tentpoles. I would put my money on BotW 2 if anything, though we don't know how long it's been in development. Perhaps we'll set something unexpected like Mario Kart 9? I mean, MK8D is still selling like hot cakes but a new title would be great.
@outsider83 They kind of were actually. The launch year of the Switch was in the middle of the PS4s lifetime, and 2017 still managed to be an incredible year for Nintendo.
This isn't the first time this has happened, as this is exactly how the DS worked. Chinese DS Systems could play games from any region while Chinese games were unplayable in systems from other regions.
@Kalmaro The second half of the game still has the same exact gameplay flow technically. You'll likely spend less time in the extra stuff during the second half, (less people to talk to in the monastery, fewer prologues, less grinding etc.) but it's still structured the same as part 1.
Might just pick up the 200gb. Got a Switch Lite a little while ago and I need one so I can actually download all of my eShop games, Updates, and DLC to the system.
I think the texture work is the most disappointing aspect of the game for me (from a visual stand point). The art design is strong though, which somewhat masks it.
But like... free camera motion should be a series standard now that the games are on console. I feel like you don't need fan feedback to understand that.

@Nego I don't think the 2DS was really fully responsible for killing the usage of 3D. Even then most games still supported 3D for the majority of the systems lifetime, it wasn't until the last few years that we really saw a huge decline in 3D support.
Nintendo very rarely cuts the cost of brand new products for Black Friday, and it's doubtful they'd cut the "original" Switch down to 200 bucks. Definitely seems like a fake add.
@datamonkey The biggest problem with that is that the light doesn't even physically fit into the standard switch dock. Which means that they would have had to design a whole new dock just to sell separately (or some other solution). This also brings up the problem that once people start buying extra products for the light, what's the insintive to not buy the original anyway? At the end of the day the Light is for people who want to play only in handheld (or want a cheaper second Switch for their household), and the system was obviously designed entirely around that.
@Razer You kind of answered your own question there. The Switch light isn't really meant for current Switch owners, it's an alternate, cheaper option for newer customers. If you're someone who is going to play exclusively handheld, then there's really no reason not to buy the light unless you're really going to miss rumble. It's also a cheaper point of entry which for some people can make a world of difference.
I keep seeing people being "why would anyone upgrade to this model?" when nobody is asking you to upgrade to this model. It's not an upgrade. It's an alternate option for new people.
