@ThanosReXXX Well, all I know when I say "the major gaming sites" is that IGN, for example, has basically confirmed it with its sources (that it's some kind of handheld that outputs to TV or whatever), and IGN is by far the biggest gaming site in the world, one that has been around since the N64 era, and one that I actually trust because of people like Peer Schneider who really does have enough fingers in enough big pies to speak with genuine credibility at this point. When IGN as a site is basically saying it's confirmed some of this information itself via its sources, there's little other people or sites I'd trust more—even as much of a douche as IGN can be at times.
And, I actually do hold a lot of respect for the guys at Nintendo Life too, many of whom have been around since the likes of Mean Machines and earlier, and I largely trust their claims of verification from reliable sources too.
The rest, who knows; who knows.
I don't know who PlayerEssence is. He's a random nobody YouTuber to me, and I almost certainly take everything random YouTubers say with a pinch of salt; they could just be total randoms like me speculating from their rooms, and in most cases probably are, especially the smaller ones. So, you saying I should watch his random video isn't really going to mean much to me. Other than you saying he's saying good stuff, I have no reason to give his words any more credence than the other hundreds of thousands or millions of random YouTubers out there pretending they have the best notion of what NX is going to be. Christ, I have more of a notion than 99% of them—and I basically have no clue what it's going to be outside of pure speculation, some common sense based on years working in the industry and thinking about this stuff firsthand, and just looking at the same rumours and Patents and whatever else that everyone else is looking. So, I wouldn't even trust my own best guesses. lol
Edit: And let's be clear here; IGN's not talking to the likes of Emily Rogers or some random bloggers or whatever when its talking about its "sources", of that I'm pretty certain. It's almost certainly talking about people working for the likes of Nintendo, major third parties, major component manufacturers and that kind of stuff, who it likely has leaking info to it like some kind of industrial spies from time to time just because of the position its in. Yes, Emily Rogers' "sources" are probably random bloggers and stuff, but not IGN. Christ, when I worked at Rare and Rockstar North I was in the loop more than most of these bloggers and stuff, at least about those company's games, and I'm sure IGN knows a whole lot of people in the industry like that, Nintendo employees too, who they're very close pals with. But, I'm just speculating given what I think would simply make sense in this kind of scenario, obviously.
Yeah, it is totally legal, but at the same time it's what's lead to the flood of copycat garbage we now see on the like of iOS and Android, where a whole lot of dodgy developers have just bought up a pre-made game shell of say a Flappy Bird clone for example, changed a couple of assets, and then uploaded it as a new game—along with the thousands of other dodgy developers who've done similarly. At least with my Flappy Bird rip-off I created every single bit of it from scratch.
In my heart I don't really want to see that kind of thing on Nintendo's consoles, but at the same time, I don't think Nintendo can really avoid it if it wants to stay relevant and get all those indie developers working on games for its systems where maybe one will turn into the next Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, Cut The Rope, Tiny Wings, Flappy Bird, etc.
And, at the end of the day, you can't really blame people for just trying to make their way in this world. This world isn't going to give them anything for free, so they're just finding the best way they can to create a decent life for themselves. I don't blame the dodgy developers; I blame the systems that mean they inevitably will and have to exist in the first place as a symptom of such a system. And by "system" I don't just mean the likes of the App Store, I mean our modern capitalistic, free market, money driven society on the whole.
@ThanosReXXX Having a hybrid (but basically another handheld) AND another full console too just doesn't seem like the smartest of moves to me at this time. I don't see how that makes NX particularly different; and multiple people at Nintendo have said on multiple occasions that it is indeed something very different.
I think I'll stick with the most likely scenario, imo, that it's a predominantly handheld that can play games through the TV too in one way or another and has detachable controllers. That really switches things up, because it will be the first time Nintendo has basically just had one system since the days of the NES, pretty much, and something that's also a kind of amalgamation of two disparate platforms into one solution, which again is also very different for Nintendo.
I'm pretty confident when all the major gaming sites are saying they've actually contacted their trusted sources, who are confirming the rumours are accurate, that the rumours are probably pretty accurate.
And, on a personal note, I just don't see the point in Nintendo going for two full platforms again, although I wouldn't say it's impossible either. But, having only a predominantly handheld console that also functions in some way as a home console, without there actually being a full home console, seems like a pretty smart move going forward to me.
Impressive that they've managed to get so many actual official games from some of the big developers of the era.
Also:
2 USB Retro-style six button controllers
HDMI and AV Outputs
SD card slot to save and transfer game progress (SD card not included)
Internal game save feature - Save your progress anywhere, any time!
I'm sure some people will still think I'm being unreasonable when I say Nintendo could/should have included more games and a few other small tweaks here and there with the NES Classic Mini, but at the very least I'd like to see Nintendo push the boat out just a little further if it decides to make a SNES Classic Mini. Ideally, I'd be hoping for something like this:
At this point it's nigh-on confirmed that it's basically a handheld with TV/home streaming/output of some kind (maybe via a stand or small "console" box plugin or whatever) and detachable ends, for all intents and purposes.
@ThanosReXXX Nope. In fact, the day we left cartridges behind I feel was actually a bit of a step back for gaming in many ways. But, if this is a handheld system it just makes sense that it would use cartridges since that's basically been the case since the beginning of time up until now. So, it's a good thing in my book.
@Billsama Are you trying to be "cool" or instigative or something?
Before we go off on one as get into an argument, let's just make it very clear that you started this; you are the instigator here. I didn't say anything even remotely conflicting toward you until you tried to be smart and real "subtly" insinuated my idea is absurd (which it really isn't in the slightest).
Edit: And, you continue to be very insidiously and sneakily passive-aggressive with each of your further comments too.
How about acting civil yourself rather than throwing random initial digs based on nothing but pure ignorance, ones that clearly create an air of underlying insult and tension, and then try to pretend like you did no such thing. Because you flame-baiting is not being civil; so how about following your own advice. If you have a "different opinion" of my idea then how about learning to express it like a mature adult instead of making childish insults and inevitably creating an air of tension and conflict should the person you try that with not be the type of person who won't call you out for it (which you likely know fine well).
Either way, I reported your initial comment that started this back and forth because it seems very clear to me that all you're trying to do is antagonise me and start us both throwing insults back and forth for no good reason, while you pretend that's not what you were doing at all. And the fact you are doing it "subtly" should be something the MOD hopefully sees right through. Just because you are sly and insidious in how you create conflict (very calculated with your words and socially manipulative, especially with each further comment) and I am extremely transparent and honest in expressing my feelings (I don't mince my words), it doesn't change the truth of what is going on here.
Looking very interesting. Would have been even better to see actual gameplay footage though, because it's difficult to get a clear idea of what this particular game is like just through stills, especially when part of what makes the whole look come together is apparently the multi-layer parallax and character animation. What I'm seeing here looks potentially very cool though, I think.
I wonder what Nintendo could have to show that isn't just the same stuff we already know about. Probably it will indeed just be going over stuff we already know about.
It will almost certainly be a sprite-based game just like every other 3D Classics title to date (that I'm aware of); it would be too crazy (in a good but totally unlikely way) if they've actually gone and made one of the proper 3D games for this (like just imagine how cool it would be if it were something like Sega Rally Championship ).
Does anyone have any knowledge of this pole and what the choices where; what game might have won?
I mean, the 3DS is already just a lower spec version of the exact same stuff I'm talking about; and by all accounts the NX is basically going to be Nintendo's new handheld but with streaming to TV functionality. We've also already heard rumours it's going to have a 720p screen with multi-touch anyway, so all my idea adds is an even higher resolution (not essential but just a best-case example) and the same cheap glasses-free 3D that's already in 3DS right now. None of the stuff I'm suggesting is some crazy out there concept, it's just bringing together everything Nintendo's already done in a way that makes sense for a new system that's trying to merge both the handheld and home console devices into one, and in a way where it's not sacrificing/losing anything that made those systems great in their own right and that most people wouldn't want to lose going forward.
Also, I can't imagine why you think the ability to let all users create and share content would be a bad thing; it certainly wasn't a bad thing in Super Mario Maker (it was a revelation), and this would just be that taken to a whole other level of awesomeness. It would kinda be like saying a combination of the likes of Game Maker Studio and Steam is a bad thing, when you really get down to it, which is basically crazy to even suggest imo.
And the split d-pad makes total sense to me if they've got these removable "Wiimotes" on either side of the system and they want people to detach them and use them for games, because it means if there's two players they're both going to have the exact same setup, which is only fair.
@Anti-Matter Yeah, I think it could/would be very cool, like a more sophisticated version of Mario Paint's music editing tool basically, and with that special Nintendo touch to it just like we saw in Super Mario Maker as a platform game level creation tool.
How about a "share" button that lets you share more than just some text, or an image, or maybe some gameplay footage at most. How about a "share" button that actually let's you share messages, images drawn directly on NX, textures painted on NX, music composed on NX, animation created on NX, videos edited on NX, pixel sprites created on NX, 3D models constructed on NX, and even simple games made directly on NX, using the stylus and multi-touch screen plus a built-in creation suite of tools, and all of which can be shared on some kind of Nintendo eStore with maybe even the option for users to sell certain content for a small fee. Ya know, like this:
Having a typical "share" button isn't going to mean much to most people when every other system out there already does that and has been doing this for a long time now. But, going far beyond simple "social" media sharing, and doing something like the idea I've described could be a total revolution in the industry. It would equivalent of a Nintendo Intranet, which can also be shared across the Internet. It would be a bit like Nintendo's take on Steam or Apple's iOS and combined with Game Maker Studio, but catered specifically to actual NX users (all of them, because it would be built into the system out-the-box and totally free to use) rather than just a very select group of developers.
I honestly hate pretty much every single cover for the New 3DS XL I've seen. They mostly just look like cheap crap to me. Now, the covers for the normal New 3DS, however, tend to look great to me. At least they don't just look like cheap stickers or spray-ons most of the time.
Well, at least unlike the other games on the list Yoshi's Island was actually a sort of spin-off of the Super Mario platformers that takes one of the star characters of Super Mario World and puts him in a roughly similar type of game that could almost be considered a side quest of the main game, a prequel even, and one of the best ever at that. And, it was clearly designed from the start to be part of the Mario universe but just with a side character playing the star role this time around. I doubt anything about it wasn't meant to be the way it was ultimately done; as in, it likely wasn't some other random game prototype that just had Mario stuff stuck on in after however long in development. I expect it was meant to be that Yoshi "side-quest" from the start, due to Yoshi's popularity at the time, and then they decided it would also be a good idea to add the "Super Mario World 2" tag just for good measure. Yoshi's Island is basically my favourite game of all time (depending on the day), so it gets a free pass from me.
@Moshugan Yeah, I think the "brand new concept" bit is maybe just combining the whole handheld and home console into one to be honest. Because without that it really is just a way to bring the past Nintendo consoles together in one system, is some form that makes relative sense and isn't totally mental.
That's not a surprise given that I expect them to function very similarly to the Wiimotes if the rumours of the NX are true.
This is basically how I see them including backwards compatibility with all the Wii games in a way that makes sense and is practical for most people, and without it [hopefully] compromising normal game controls and stuff too.
See, not having a Pokemon Snap game on Wii U goes to exactly why the console flopped imo: Nintendo can't see all the amazing stuff it really should be doing with the Wii U, and stuff that will show it off brilliantly and really sell the concept to a whole load of people. Maybe Nintendo will have figured things out a bit better with the NX. . . .
Ya know, I rarely see Nintendo commercials on TV anymore, and the ones I do see don't really stick in my mind at all—other than that sweet retro one for the NES Classic Edition (and that still wasn't on TV). I'd like to see them getting back into cheesy but awesome stuff like this again. Have fun with it—although still do it right (cheesy but quality)—and make us have fun with it too.
Interesting, and it immediately made me think of the e-Reader for Game Boy Advance and that Barcode Battler handheld/toy thing that was around years ago and caused phenomenon where people where buying up certain products from stores in order to scan them to get the best characters/stats in the game.
@Ikramali I certainly wouldn't complain if it was Street Fighter II Turbo. But, if we're doing things right here, it should probably be Super Mario World—just because.
@samuelvictor Great to hear we share some similar tastes in gaming.
"There were 3 games that changed my mind and made me want a SNES - Street Fighter 2, Star Wing (Star Fox) and Donkey Kong Country."
I can totally see how those three games could convince anyone the SNES was at least worth trying, and in most cases likely blew them away once they did play them.
Yeah, I think something about having less games but pretty much all of them being generally amazing really made gaming different back then to what it's like now. Even if you're still skint and can only afford a handful of titles for whatever console, there's so much free stuff and throwaway garbage that it dilutes the whole experience imo. It's like how people say a bad new movie in a franchise can't ruin the older ones—but it can. It's about how it makes you feel altogether. The SNES, on the whole, is by far the most satisfying all-round console experience I've ever had. And part of that probably was specifically because I only owned a handful of games at the time, maybe ten or so. But, just like you, when I finally got a job some years later I went out and got a crap load of games at bargain prices and thoroughly enjoyed them too.
I think gamers are maybe spoiled a bit too much for choice and have access to far too much shovelware and freemium titles these days, such that the level of genuine magic I felt playing the SNES as a kid might never be felt quite the same for them.
@Retron Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. And, I'd like an option to be able to play without having to collect any orbs too (literally removing them from the track)—I feel the orb collecting dictates your driving line a bit too much—just pure skill-based racing classic F-Zero style. Switching phase state is fine though; I kinda like that, as long as it's not tied to collecting orbs. They also need to update the landing animation so it doesn't look like you always crash land with a really heavy thud even when you land perfectly, as if you'd done it wrong. I think if you land perfectly it should be a really smooth and soft landing that totally glides and flows over the track (you know, like the anti-grav is actually doing what it's supposed to); that would feel more satisfying imo.

Ya know, like this:
http://www.inceptional.com/2015/06/26/heres-the-gist-of-my-idea-for-nintendos-nx/
Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Reveals 'New Galaxy Style' New Nintendo 3DS XL, Out in North America This Week
I honestly hate pretty much every single cover for the New 3DS XL I've seen. They mostly just look like cheap crap to me. Now, the covers for the normal New 3DS, however, tend to look great to me. At least they don't just look like cheap stickers or spray-ons most of the time.
Re: Feature: The Reasons for Renegade Kid's Closure and What's Next For Its Co-Founders
Well, I wish the best of luck to both of you guys in your future ventures.
Re: Video: These Five Mario Games Were Never Really Mario Games
Re: NES Classic Edition Will Feature a Brand New Emulator Developed by NERD
Well, here's hoping they do a great job with the NES Classic Edition emulation.
Re: Weirdness: Homebrew Programmer Emulates a Macintosh Plus on 3DS
Now, get Shufflepuck Cafe for Mac running on there, with the ability to use the touchscreen to control the bat.

Note: The game would be shown on the top screen and you'd use the bottom screen like a separate touch-pad basically.
Re: We Have To Do A Better Job Of Explaining The Uniqueness Of NX, Admits Reggie
Yes; yes you do, Reggie.
Re: Rumour: Detachable NX Controllers Will Offer Wii-Like Motion Control And Advanced Force Feedback
@Moshugan Yeah, I think the "brand new concept" bit is maybe just combining the whole handheld and home console into one to be honest. Because without that it really is just a way to bring the past Nintendo consoles together in one system, is some form that makes relative sense and isn't totally mental.
Re: Rumour: Detachable NX Controllers Will Offer Wii-Like Motion Control And Advanced Force Feedback
Re: Nintendo of America Unveils Nindies Summer Jam Promotion and a Tasty Sizzle Reel
That's actually a pretty impressive selection of titles there.
Re: Hobonichi Techo's 2017 Product Lineup Features Plenty Of Mother(ly) Love
I see what you did there.
Re: Poll: What Are Your Favourite Super NES Games?
I already told ya:
http://www.inceptional.com/2016/01/18/kirks-top-10-super-nintendo-games-in-pics/
But I did vote in the poll too, and I chose:
Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Street Fighter II (Turbo)
But, I mean, just look at that list you put up, amazing, and there's definitely quite a few awesome titles you didn't even include:
http://retro-sanctuary.com/Top-100-SNES-Games-Page-1.html
http://uk.ign.com/top/snes-games
http://www.sydlexia.com/snes100/snes100.htm
U.N. Squadron, Super Aleste, Super Smash TV, Parodius: Those are a few I'd include on the list too.
There's just so many great games on SNES.
Re: Feature: From Paul Rudd to Dancing Link and Beyond - Some of the Best SNES Commercials
And, it's not a SNES game commercial but this has to be one of the most awesome Nintendo commercials ever, at least imo:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrATmeFoJPE
Mario! Mario! Mario!
Re: Review: Pokémon Snap (Wii U eShop / N64)
See, not having a Pokemon Snap game on Wii U goes to exactly why the console flopped imo: Nintendo can't see all the amazing stuff it really should be doing with the Wii U, and stuff that will show it off brilliantly and really sell the concept to a whole load of people. Maybe Nintendo will have figured things out a bit better with the NX. . . .
Re: Feature: From Paul Rudd to Dancing Link and Beyond - Some of the Best SNES Commercials
Re: Capcom Announces a New 3DS Game That Uses Japanese Travel Cards
Interesting, and it immediately made me think of the e-Reader for Game Boy Advance and that Barcode Battler handheld/toy thing that was around years ago and caused phenomenon where people where buying up certain products from stores in order to scan them to get the best characters/stats in the game.
Re: Anniversary: The Super Nintendo Is 25 Years Old Today
@samuelvictor Totally agree. I guess it's just "progress". lol
Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo Super Famicom
@Ikramali I certainly wouldn't complain if it was Street Fighter II Turbo. But, if we're doing things right here, it should probably be Super Mario World—just because.
Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo Super Famicom
I'll just post this pic again, because it really is one of the best images of the Super Nintendo I've found (the Super Famicom is near identical):
That's a real glamour shot there; so, beautiful (and in perfect condition).
Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo Super Famicom
One of the all-time greats.
"Being a UK-based site we're clearly a little biased, but we much prefer the Super Famicom/Euro SNES design to the North American SNES shape."
That's not bias, it's taste. lol
Re: Anniversary: The Super Nintendo Is 25 Years Old Today
Re: Video: Check Out This FAST Racing NEO DLC Trailer
Regardless; what an impressive looking game.
Re: Recent Data Highlights Gradual Decline in Pokémon GO Users and Engagement
Inevitable. But it did its job more than admirably.
