Earlier this week it was confirmed that well-known indie developer Renegade Kid had closed, with co-founders Jools Watsham and Gregg Hargrove moving on to their own separate studios - Atooi and Infitizmo.
Watsham previously released Totes the Goat on iOS under the Atooi name, and now has announced his first game through the studio since confirmation of Renegade Kid's closure. It's not an established RK IP - though Treasurenauts is expected in 2017 - but is an all-new title.
Chicken Wiggle features the unlikely partnership of a chicken and a worm; the latter can be used as a grapple, as one example of their move-set. Though it'll have a story mode, as expected, perhaps the most intriguing feature is that it'll include its own level creation tool, in addition to the ability to share those stages easily with others. This one is coming to the 3DS eShop (and also iOS) so could potentially fill a gap on the portable.
The press release is below.
Atooi announced today that the creative minds behind Mutant Mudds and Xeodrifter are developing a new platformer experience called Chicken Wiggle – coming to the Nintendo 3DS eShop and the App Store soon.
The stars of Chicken Wiggle are an improbable duo: a young chicken and his best buddy – a wiggly worm – nestled in his backpack! Together, they team up for adventure to jump, peck, and worm-grapple across a myriad of perplexing platforming levels – full of fun gadgets, tricky hazards, and sneaky foes – determined to rescue their friends from the wicked witch in her sky towers.
Create & Share Your Own Levels!
But wait, there's more! Aspiring game designers and playful doodlers alike can spend hours of fun hatching their own levels with the user-friendly level creator included with the game. You can even choose different gameplay rules, art themes, and provide custom hints, tips, and search tags. Once you're ready, it's easy to share your creations on-line with other Chicken Wiggle players via the community portal. Now, anyone can be a game designer on the go!
Players seeking more levels to play after completing Chicken Wiggle's main story mode will find a wealth of unique levels to download, play, and rate for free! Level categories include Atooi official, popular, latest, or simply enter your own search tags or a specific level ID to locate a friend's level.
It sounds and looks promising - the game's official website also has a short teaser video to show it in action.
Do you like the look of this, as well as the idea of a 2D platformer on 3DS with a full level creation / sharing suite? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to check back later for our interview with Jools Watsham in which we learn more about Atooi, Chicken Wiggle and its features.

I need to see more before I make a fully-rounded opinion, but I'm intrigued nonetheless.
Looks nice.
I was expecting a puzzle game like Bomb Monkey or Totes the Goat, but this is even better!
Can't wait to play it
I hope the user levels created on iOS can be accessed on 3DS. That would be really sweet.
Looks interesting! Hopefully the level creator offers enough variation (and it certainly sounds like it does) to keep people designing and playing
But how much can wiggle this chicken?
If this offers up the level of whimsy that it appears to, I'm in.
Looks interesting. I'll be sure to give it a shot. That said, Ithink a level editor for Mutant Mudds would be particularly cool!
What the...?! Banjo 2D-ie?!
Sounds great...
Poor treasurenaughts though...feels like its title should be
"Treasurenaught ever releasing"
:/
Chicken wedgie? Oh, wait...
@Tops I agree, that 15-second-teaser makes the game look kinda dull, they need to show off all the mechanics the games has in a full trailer. What they've given us isn't exactly gonna cut it.
Remember that Treasurenauts thing that people seemed to be interested in?
Well, it looks pretty cool in the few seconds of footage, but I really need to see more. Love the art so far though.
Edit: This part looks potentially very cool:
Looks nice
That beanstalk looks a lot like the one from Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse from SNES.
Well that is an intelligent move from Jools. People have been asking for a Mario Maker on 3DS for a while. This could fill that gap. I'll be getting it!
So it's like a mix of Mutant Mudds and Toki Tori? Or so it seems...
Let's see:
1) A Yooka-Laylee-esque mechanic based on a duo's symbiosis
2) Late GameBoy Color/early GameBoy Advance graphics
3) Level editor crossed with actual platformer mechanics
(cough) Mario Vs Donkey Kong (cough)4) Chiptune soundtrack
Count me in. Throw in a budget price and we've got a 3DS top seller.
I wonder if this game is made on the same engine as Mutant Mudds/Xeodrifter/Treasurenauts. Or has Jools coded this from scratch?
Cool, the chicken has Banjo's backpack.
Do all the online features of any 3DS game have to operate through the Nintendo Network? I love the idea of level sharing and literally the only downside I can think of is if Nintendo ever decides to pull the plug on its own servers (see Nintendo Wifi) and that feature going poof way down the line.
@KIREEK they did not pull the plug. They used game spy for their servers and game spy went bankrupt.
@KoopaTheGamer looks like it's code from scratch. Totes the goat (his iOS game) also looks nothing like his previous work.
Don't care about any level editors in games. I've purchased several games where you could create your own scenarios and tracks, etc, and I've never seen anyone actually create anything so my time with the games were cut drastically short without seeing other people's creations. I doubt things would be any different with this game.
@Freelance you've never seen anyone create a level with a level editor ever?
@KIREEK No, they do not have to.
Sounds kinda like a 2D Banjo-Kazooie type game; count me in!
lol this bird has worms. Lol cute
@faint No, not ever. I mean just 3DS games.
@Freelance have you played pushimo or crashimo? I've played a lot of user created levels on the 3ds with those games.
@faint I actually forgot about those games. I was referring to A-Train and uh, that one where you can make your own railroad tracks. Nobody ever made any levels for those, and I was hoping they would, to increase the longevity, but ah well.
The early chicken gets the worm. Looks cool.
I want to play this so bad!!
Looks good! The graphics looks similar to his other games including mutant mudds
Are those sound effects the same ones from designing patterns in Animal Crossing? They sound eerily familiar.
Worm grapple, huh? I don't think we've seen that since the Earthworm Jim games, although in functionality it's more like Bionic Commando.
Level creation as part of a game is always cool if players get involved and create and share. Fun stuff
Chicken Wiggle has a bit of a Mickey's Magical Quest look.
I like it.
