Many have no doubt been looking forward to the release of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, the latest in WayForward's flagship action platforming series. The build we played at E3 a few months back was top notch, and there's little doubt that the rest of the game will hold to the series' standard. Previously the release date was set for 27th September, but it now appears that we'll have to wait a little longer before getting a chance to play Shantae's latest.
WayForward recently posted an update to the Kickstarter page with some rather bittersweet news. First of all, the game is now "content complete", and the studio is now shifting its focus to bug testing and polishing. Unfortunately, that'll take some time, and the release date is being pushed bacl by roughly six weeks. Here's what they had to say:
First things first – we are going to have to adjust our Target Release Date, moving it back from our 9/27 Target Release date by about 6 weeks, give or take. We know this will disappoint some of you, but we feel that it's necessary to take that extra time for bug fixing and adding additional polish. We know you want the final product to be excellent and so do we! Thanks for your patience and support as we approach the finish line!
If you read the post here, WayForward lays out a specific plan for what they intend to do with this extra time. Hopefully, it'll be worth the wait.
What do you think? Are you disappointed by this? Would you rather they have released it and put out a patch later? Drop us a comment in the section below.

Hope this game soon!!!!
Wasn't going to buy this at launch so doesn´t really matter. Still, waiting to get to play this, especially after the last Shantae that was easily the best game in the series so far.
If it's just for bug testing, then no problem. Looking forward to it!
Just 6 weeks? Is that even considered a delay anymore?
They'd rather test and fix their game before they release it unlike some other KickStarter games we know.
Only felt like yesterday when I backed this. Can't believe it's been 3 years since. I feel sorry for the people who backed the 360/PS3 version which they had to cancel but since it only made up 1% of the backers then I guess they had to make that decision.
I think this is the right approach. Yeah, it's a bit disappointing, but I know the time's being put to good use.
"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."
Let's stick with these wise words.
Shame this news didn't come at the beginning of the summer holidays. Well que sera sera. Plus, if it's for fine tuning the game, I ain't complaining, just shows they care about quality not schedules.
I'm just hoping we get a physical Wii U version here in the UK. Boxed Shantae would do me very nicely.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-Oh, well, that's not a bad wait. Looking forward to it!
Absolutely loved the last one on 3DS. Still have to play through Risky's Revenge before picking this up on Vita, so this doesn't worry me too much. This sort of game is perfect for a handheld.
why the kickstarted project became the most delayed project from the studio? this was supposed to come out the same schedule as Pirate Curse, remember?
Not a problem. I've waited this long, so what's another six weeks?
The delay is fine get the game running good for release.
I'm surprised that no one threatens to kill the author of this news...
@Dakt then again ive never played this "star fox zero"
whats a starcraft zero
"release date is being pushed bacl by roughly six weeks"
The classic adjacent-key typo.
@BornInNorway81 I'm glad I wasn't the one who had to point that out this time. I feel like I pick on the journalists sometimes but it comes from good intentions.
Wow, a delay? I'd never have guessed. Not as if literally every single game in the Shantae series has suffered from long periods of ambiguous release windows followed by shifting release dates or anything.
I have to admit though, I really was looking forward to a September release date for this one, right in there with Phoenix Wright and ReCore.
They should have ended that announcement with: But hey, that's two weeks less than Final Fantasy XV. (MatPat voice)
Need to play the last 2 so I dont mind.
I'd rather a game be delayed so it can be polished to a blinding sheen than just forced out to meet some random deadline.
I initially read "six months" and was super bummed out. But six weeks? Yeah, that I can take.
Well, now I can get a game for Halloween without worry. It all works out.
@Dakt starcraft 0 sound boring
id rather play candyland
