Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend?

@Anti-Matter ordered from Base.com and they dispatched it two days ago. Maybe because of the bank holiday? I’m enjoying it but there is a day one patch I haven’t downloaded and i’ve noticed Ryu is prone to random heavy kicks (which in fairness did win me a round but are actually annoying as heck)

My copy of Street fighter 30th arrived today. So far I’ve played Street Fighter for the first (and probably last) time ever and now I’m jumping amongst the different versions of SF2.
I’m sat outside a tent in a big green field but my phone still has reception so I might see if the online is up to much yet.

Funny you should mention Game Over (my favourite videogame related book).
I read that back in the 90s after a spell away from Nintendo. It filled a gap for videogame nostalgia and trivia during a time for me that was almost internet (and totally Nintendo) free.
Even back then I couldn’t imagine a time when Nintendo would have struggled to find US partners to carry their product but the detail given to those earlier, pioneering business moves of NoA in Game Over was fascinating.
I remember being surprised how much of the company was built off of the back of Donkey Kong (and I loved how Nintendo cut down Universal’s “King Kong” claim against them by turning the studio’s own tried and tested argument that there was no actual copyright on the monster back on them).
The main reason I loved that book, though, was because it kick started a major retro Nintendo phase for me (back in a time where you could build a pretty stellar NES collection without breaking the bank). Ultimately it brought me back to Nintendo gaming full stop.
It was fun to read about, what were at the time, emerging technologies and i’d like to go track a copy down just to read it again knowing how it all turned out.

Re: Super Sonic Is Coming to Sonic Forces as DLC

Future DLC:

Sonic’s speed is capped at ‘unhurried jog’ unless you purchase the ‘Blue Streak’ DLC.

Tails has only one tail until you buy and complete ‘The Tale of Tail’s Tail’.

Knuckles doesn’t have his glide ability without prior purchase of the ‘Knuckle Down’ pack.

Question: does NLife post the reasons they choose a particular winner? I can think of a number of people who I think would deserve a happy surprise after what they’ve gone through this year, but I’m not certain they would appreciate their business being shared, even anonymously, online.
Thank you NLife and anonymous donor, you are both amazing and I hope you have great Christmases.

Re: Hey! Pikmin Shows Nintendo Still Has A Soft Spot For Rare

@In_Ex_Fan wait, so we're saying that once Nintendo had made a choice not to purchase the remaining 51% they had no other choice than to sell their 49%.
I'm quite certain that Nintendo would have been aware of the consequences of not making the purchase and Damo's point is entirely pertinent.

Re: Former Project M Devs Unveil Icons: Combat Arena; It Sure Looks Like Smash Bros.

After all that time cutting their teeth on Smash maybe it was inevitable that all they learnt would result in a game, seemingly, this close to the original.
To me it doesnt look to excel past Smash in any area (character design, moves, stage design).
To me, it's value as a game is going to come either in the differences from N's originals or by its existing on a platform where Smash (technically) doesn't already occupy the space to give competition.
I know it's beta, but I hope differing stage designs are high on the list of priorities.

Re: Video: How Well Does Virtual Reality Work On The Nintendo Switch?

Kid_Sickarus

I can't see Nintendo being happy to put any major titles on a "sort of works but it isn't great" attempt at VR (especially after Virtual Boy)
If we see a 'Mario VR' (for example) polished to N's usual standard, then I'd expect it would surface on a Nintendo console purposely designed to support VR.
I could imagine VR titles cropping up in the eShop but I doubt we'll see anything that renders the Switch as a viable contender in the VR market.
