Re: AM2R Developer Encourages Players to Support Metroid II On the eShop and to Avoid 'Hate' Against Nintendo

Kid_Sickarus

@MadAdam81 yeah, maybe so. I don't know a great deal about game development so I'm not sure how much was hard work and how much was standing on the shoulders of giants. I do know that having downloaded it I enjoyed it and if it had been an official release I would have felt it was money well spent and would have been hopeful for more. Thanks for the reply.

@russellohh lol, touché. Except I have a massive steam library so I'm already aware of the benefits of digital. My point was that in a largely closed ecosystem of console digital sales prices are too easily controlled by the retailer (in the absence of meaningful competition).
Fortunately, in the absence of rampaging nieces my hard copy games have all survived perfectly intact.

Re: Review: Rendering Ranger: R2 (SNES)

It does seem the mid 90s were the beginning of the rush for more and more impressive visuals. I think that's why SNES and Megadrive are so fondly remembered- the perfect blend of graphics (for their time) and gameplay.

Re: Weirdness: Fox Stole Footage Of NES Titles For Family Guy And Copyright-Claimed The Originals On YouTube

@Spooj how would that be enforced? And what would happen to the money- either Google keeps it or if it goes to the offended party, it would be chaos as people would intentionally be trying to push the boundaries of "fair use" looking for a pay day and the resulting backlash would affect all the genuine users.
IMHO anybody attempting to make a living based off of Fair use of content is taking a lot of risk until the case law and legislation is firmer and takes account of the particular issues of the internet.
Maybe they'll come out on top, maybe they won't.

Re: Reaction: The NX Release in March 2017 and How It Changes the Game

Kid_Sickarus

@Clownshoes that quote has been garbage for years, its from a completely different time when Nintendo could tell people what they want.
Now the customers shape what we want- hence the massive changes to Xbox One's initial direction, the upcoming mid-point console revisions etc.
I'm not a fan of the extreme approaches of knowingly releasing a broken game to patch later, or early access for half finished messes that trade on promises of improvements to come, but people are not the patient masses we were back in the 80's and 90's, we're now spoiled with options and if Nintendo doesn't deliver, and in a timely fashion, their market will continue to go elsewhere.

@VanillaLake yes, very close indeed. I am aware of the meaning of mediocre and I'll assume you're being patronising as you're feeling defensive given that half the comments in this thread appear to be debating you.

Re: Nintendo's Official UK Store Opens Pre-Orders For Fire Emblem Fates: Limited Edition - Rapidly Sells Out

Kid_Sickarus

Does anybody else remember comics in the 90s? The big publishers releasing variant cover after variant cover- shiny, holographic, guest artists- and the hundreds of crappy "dark and gritty" comics trying to to make the medium "mature", as well as reboots and pointless "first issues" of already established comics? Does anybody remember how speculators thought "collectors editions" would all one day make them a fortune? Does anybody recall how that bubble grew and grew then burst spectacularly leaving the industry a shell of itself for years?
Remind you of anything?

Re: GAME Grabs UK Exclusivity of Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition

Kid_Sickarus

Thanks for the heads up, NLife, I would have totally missed this otherwise.
This should be much more widely available as a 'value edition' rather than as a limited. Right now there's a lot of hype that Nintendo could use to fuel sales of all three versions together- I'd be interested to learn how many people miss out on this version to later buy a single version of the game (with intentions of buying more later) but don't go on to any more purchases after getting their fill with just one campaign.
