Re: Beyond Good & Evil 2 is Revealed, But Platforms Are Unannounced

Kevlar44

@Jeronan The Wii wasn't a HD console, there is no argument to be had. Nintendo didn't even release component cables for the system iirc, they were all 3rd party and they don't make a big difference. An HD remaster on the Wii didn't make sense and the Wii U has a different architecture so it wouldn't be an easy port job so could have easily been seen as a poor investment.

Re: Teslagrad Was Most Profitable on the Wii U Compared to Other Platforms

Kevlar44

One of my favourite games on the system and probably my favourite indie game. Only complaint i had was it was too short for how wonderful it was. Great and unique mechanics, excellent puzzles, fair but challenging secrets, awesome bosses, amazing story telling, and some of the most outstanding graphics/art in any game i've ever played.

Re: World To The West Delayed On Wii U, No Solid Release Date Forthcoming

Kevlar44

@OorWullie You didn't like Teslagrad!?! I think that game is amazing. Also the reviews i've seen, only a few from Youtubers admittedly, were rather positive and in the 8/10 range and the metacritic scores seem to average a solid 7/10. That means it's a really good to excellent game. A 9 is an all time classic and a 10 is a masterpiece.

Re: Review: Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap (Switch eShop)

Kevlar44

The original is one of the best 8 bit games ever, like BionicDodo said if it's not broken the improvements make it a dream come true. I think an 8 out of 10 is low tbh, for it's time and what it's trying to be it's a near perfect game in my books. Not that an 8 is bad or unfair either.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Composer Confirms Soundtrack Is Practically Complete

Kevlar44

I think these games look really interesting and fun from an adventuring standpoint but i found the battle system really unfun. I wish they made these games with the option to play an arcade/action style of combat instead. I always thought different combat options would be a great way to make various RPG's more appealing to a wider audience.

Re: Random: Somebody Put Yoshi Into Sonic 2, And The Results Are Amazing

Kevlar44

Really impressive and cool

Also lol at the naive people on here who think that Nintendolife is going to get shutdown, or that a bin file is shady for a genesis rom (all of them are bins), or that Nintendolife are some kind of terrible criminals. Loosen up. If you don't want it don't download it, i really appreciate this article and so do a bunch of others.

Re: Bertil Hörberg Shares Footage of His Next Game

Kevlar44

I think the art style is really cool and it could be a solid base for a great game. You never know how good it can be without seeing things like combat and the style of progression. I'd love to him continue with this though, I was a big fan of the Gunman Clive games.

Re: Feature: 30 Essential Wii U eShop Games

Kevlar44

@maceng Ittle Dew isn't really a Zelda game it's more of a puzzle game that looks Zeldaish. It's a good but not great game, although some puzzles i recall being quite tough. Not much for story, combat and exploration.

Re: Feature: 30 Essential Wii U eShop Games

Kevlar44

@Hey-Cha-La @Hey-Cha-La Chronicles of Teddy 2 was a great game but bugs were a pretty big issue with freezing and sound glitches. Hopefully that's been fixed because it's a really really good game, without them it would be in my top 5 eShop games.

Re: Feature: 30 Essential Wii U eShop Games

Kevlar44

@sketchturner Holy smokes i didn't notice no Steamworld Dig, that's one of the very few rivals to Teslagrad in my books in fairness it is mentioned alongside Heist so it's not much of a foul i suppose. Elliot's quest should also be on the list, that game is awesome.

Re: Feature: 30 Essential Wii U eShop Games

Kevlar44

@shaneoh Thomas was Alone was an interesing experience but it's not much of a game in terms of a challenge and more of a story. It's good but not great in my books. Telsagrad however is so criminally underrated i'll never understand. The art, storytelling, mechanics/gameplay, boss fights, music are all amazing. It's one of the best games i've ever played and my only real complaint is that for a game that great it was over too soon, i'd love a sequel.

Re: Nintendo Switch Patent Provides Insights Into VR Accessory and Console Touchscreen

Kevlar44

I knew it! Ever since i saw how slim the device was i immediately thought of phone VR. It will likely be as good as any standalone VR and much more cost effective allowing casuals and hardcore gamers alike to enjoy it. I think Nintendo is doing the opposite of Sony and releasing the VR/companion device now and the true next console along with the next gen, which the Switch will essentially become an accessory for. However Nintendo's VR is going to be much more versatile in that it can be a home and portable console, and hopefully a tablet with some computer functions too. With Nvidia as the GPU in both they'll be able to seemlessly stream games, and enhance the Switch's power too (like the Shield and PC GPU's can work in tandem) and it will provide the user with an excellent way to play console games in any room using the Switch and base (which can reportedly be purchased separate for this purpose). I was really hoping Nintendo wasn't foolish enough not to make this a VR machine, my hype for the Switch has really gone up.

Re: SM64: Last Impact is a Hugely Ambitious Super Mario 64 Fan Mod

Kevlar44

@-DEMISE- They don't necessarily own the code in a rom hack and the vast majority of copyrighted data is already contained in the rom being modified. They have never taken one down so why live in an imaginary world where they will/do. Clearly mods and hacks have been received and treated differently than fan games using IP's and assets that don't belong to the creators, hence they are different despite your claims. Don't know how this is even a debate, the proof is in the pudding.

Re: Video: Remembering Alex Kidd, Sega's Forgotten Answer To Super Mario

Kevlar44

I love Miracle World, it's my 2nd favourite Master System game after MB: The Dragons Trap. Those Castles get downright hard and cryptic. Great game and i always felt a sequel could have improved on the formula a lot. I hated the "Janken"/RPS matches though.

@CTMike It was still Rice Cake in my version growing up, i think it was changed on a re-release.

Re: Review: Mega Man X3 (New 3DS / SNES)

Kevlar44

A 6 is ridiculously harsh IMO. It's likely a step back in some ways to the first 2 but those games are pretty much perfect. Add in the robot suits and it's still an excellent game. It's a solid 8 in my books if not higher. A 6 is crazy, it's really not that much worse.

Re: Work For Volkswagen? Better Delete Pokémon GO From Your Phone

Kevlar44

@Agent721 Other companies ban cell phones on their property, i've been on oilfield sites that do this, because it's the only thing they can actually do. They can restrict what personal property is allowed on site but they certainly can't tell their employees what they can do with their own property, that's illegal. VW are being massive losers here, i guess they need even more bad PR.

Re: Nvidia Formally Ditches SHIELD Tablet Successor, Reinforcing NX Reports

Kevlar44

@JpGamerGuy90 The Wii wasn't a homerun in your eyes? I'd suggest the DS and 3DS also generated massive buzz due to their design. Of course power has been an issue but why would they change it up with the Wii U when what they did with the Wii/DS/and to a lesser extent 3DS worked so well? If it ain't broke don't fix it. Now that the Wii U has failed, a shame IMO since i loved it, i think we're going to see Nintendo go back to their roots which was having poweful tech. in their systems as everything up to the GC/GBA was very capable for the time (Gameboy excluded since a handheld in general was revolutionary and unlike the Gamegear it didn't eat batteries).

Re: Nvidia Formally Ditches SHIELD Tablet Successor, Reinforcing NX Reports

Kevlar44

Why are these sources not being reported on? they seem pretty reliable to me. This directly from Yahoo Finance, an obviously well known and presumably connected source:

"Semi-custom business

AMD, which competes with Intel (INTC) and NVIDIA (NVDA) in the CPU (central processing unit) and GPU (graphics processing unit) market, dominates the gaming console market. It’s the sole supplier of semi-custom processors for Japan-based (EWJ) Sony’s (SNE) PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s (MSFT) Xbox. It has also won an order for Nintendo’s upcoming console, codenamed “NX.” "

More sources:

http://seekingalpha.com/article/3989164-amd-windows-opportunity-open

http://knowtechie.com/amd-polaris-rising-star-flop/

http://marketrealist.com/2016/07/semi-custom-chip-sales-drive-amds-revenue-fiscal-2q16/

I think it's AMD, in fact even if it's a hybrid with both a handheld and home console form factor i see both being AMD powered, certainly the home console will be. I love my Nvidia Shield but it's old technology and it's not as cost effective relative to performance as an AMD solution would be. AMD is also a long time partner with Nintendo and has reported design wins on semi-custom chips for gaming that have yet to be revealed, and with Scorpio and Neo both having been reveled it isn't them.

I think NintendoLife is going way to far to support their partner site, a site that wrongly reported Nvidia powering the 3DS. Even if Eurogamer is correct it would be nice to see all sources reported on.

Re: Nvidia Formally Ditches SHIELD Tablet Successor, Reinforcing NX Reports

Kevlar44

@IceClimbers Nintendo's relationship with DeNA is more focused on online infrastructure and not the development of mobile titles, MyNintendo is a DeNA initiative for example, in fact as of now Nintendo has been developing their mobile games themselves having the mobile games division headed up by the director of Mario Kart and Miitomo made by the Metroid/Tomodachi creator. Pokemon Go is an exception but is of course a different thing altogether given it's a Pokemon product. DeNA was not recruited for mobile games, although their expertise has/may end up being leveraged.

Re: Someone Has Finally Cracked The Sega Saturn's DRM, Can Load Games Via USB

Kevlar44

That guy is brilliant and awesome. It's nice to see it's in the process of making emulation far more accurate, easy, and reliable. Emulation is what will really preserve the games for all time as executing the game code is no longer dependent on proprietary hardware which is obviously prone to failure over time.

I've always wanted to try Saturn games out, i hardly knew anyone with it back in the day and only played it a handful of times. I'm wondering if i should buy one now before they get really popular as people find out about this breakthrough.

Re: Rain Games On Teslagrad's Success and World to the West

Kevlar44

@Tendogamerxxx That's "Flash looking graphics" to you? Wow. The art was hand drawn iirc, flash art is what you see in games like Turtle Tale. To each their own but that opinion is flat out crazy IMO. I can't believe anyone wouldn't like the art, even my wife who doesn't play much games commented without being prodded that the game looked beautiful. Also by level i assume you mean section? The game has no levels, it's a fully connected metroidvania with no loading between rooms.
