Re: Yacht Club Games Unveils Full Details of Shovel Knight amiibo

Kevlar44

Yeah the developers should totally continue to develop additional content for free just because people want it. Ridiculous. This stuff wouldn't exist without the Amiibo. You aren't purchasing the Amiibo for the content, at least that's not the idea, you're purchasing it as a figure and the content is a bonus. This content only exists to provide additional incentive to purchase the figure, which without the game content would have probably been a similar price in store as 13 dollars for a toy figure is a pretty standard rate. Nothing is owed to you, Shovel Knight wasn't poor value, they've been very generous with content and updates for a game you agreed to purchase regardless of the Amiibo content. Companies need incentive to develop games and subsequent features and that incentive is money. People want a Shovel Knight figure there is clearly a demand for it, this is just a way to create a bit more demand and give it a function beyond just being a toy.

Re: Rumour: Universal Making Massive Land-Grab In Florida To Add Third Theme Park

Kevlar44

@EarthboundBren It's not just going where Wet n' Wild was? Or are they developing hotels and stuff there, as i think i may have heard that. I also believe if you look on Google Maps there is clearly a great deal of development happening in the area, for something to open in 2017 it sure seems to me that development would have already been started, but i can't say i know for sure.

Re: Feature: Our Top 10 Wii U eShop Games - Third Anniversary Edition

Kevlar44

I have no idea how Teslagrad is so underrated but the mechanics, design, story, music, and art in that game were all essentially perfect. It's only downfall was that it was too short but it's no shorter than say Shantae for DSi. Really really wonderful game. Steamworld Dig, Shantae, Shovel Knight, and NES Remix 1+2 are all excellent games although as good as Shovel Knight is it's a bit overrated. I also think Elliot's Quest was a great game but i wouldn't have put it on this list given the issues it had with bugs.

Re: SNES Title Super Star Wars Coming to PS4 and Vita

Kevlar44

@ Freelance

They are balls hard, i went back to the first one and i was thoroughly impressed with my childhood performance, i aced those games way back when. In saying that all those old platformers took some time to master but once you did that was 80% of the battle right there.

Re: Sega: Recent Sonic Games Haven't Been "Acceptable", Looking To Replicate The Past In Future Outings

Kevlar44

I think Sonic Lost World is a better game than it gets credit for. It wasn't perfect but it was fun and for me felt like the best controlling 3D sonic game i ever played. The parkour worked really well but it could have been explained better to the player, don't touch the control stick when your on walls other than when you want to jump to a different wall and it's easy, however if you hold the control stick in the direction you're moving it makes switching walls very difficult. . Lots of rough spots for sure but if they tried to make a sequel where they addressed the flaws instead of just constantly rebooting they could have a quality game.

Re: Legend of Zelda Maker Fan Project is Currently in Development

Kevlar44

I think a Zelda Maker is very doable. They could do it like they did in ALTTP where the overworld was one map and all caves and dungeons were on a second map, just like Mario Maker is. NPC's could have properties and dialogue all ready in place, so for example you could have A. Basic NPC, says nothing important. B. Tip relating to item, place item on Basic NPC to have them say something relevant. C. Fetch NPC, NPC's that will either direct you to another NPC in the quest for an item or give you the item themselves if they were placed last. So on an so forth, you could also allow an option to customize dialogue but knowing Nintendo that would never be uploadable. The problem is a Zelda Maker, not a Zelda dungeon maker, would be a game for making a full game not individual courses. Having enough diversity between potential player courses to allow users to make them interesting enough to get any kind of commitment from people to play them may be difficult.

Re: 3DS Saber Rider Game Back In Development, Kickstarter Campaign Mentions Wii U, PC Engine, SNES And amiibo

Kevlar44

@SmithJurd Considering the fellow in charge used to be a Nintendo staffer i'm thinking he's aware of the appropriate channels to go through for something like this. I may be wrong but it's far from crazy IMO that he'd be aware enough to determine the stretch goal to be plausible. As we saw with the scummy Project Cars nothing is guaranteed as far as stretch goals, you fund the project for the game and you hope it's popular enough to get everything else included not the other way around.

Re: Shovel Knight amiibo Confirms "Evolving" Relationship With Indies, Says Nintendo

Kevlar44

@Morpheel I'm somewhat mystified as to why you would warn someone for a rational and well thought out reply, the internet needs more of that not less. He avoided derogatory comments and like he said was simply defending himself, why police someone that doesn't need to be policed? That's simply unnecessary censorship and to be quite honest is the type of thing that discourages intelligent people from posting. If we don't hold one another accountable for what we say, who will? As the internet becomes increasingly more of a prominent place of human interaction i think it's imperative that we hold one another accountable for our comments, even if it leads to somewhat heated, yet non-derogatory, discussions. I won't say anymore but i just don't get why that kind of comment should be discouraged, defeating perceived ignorance with a rational and well articulated opinion is a virtue to these discussions, not a hindrance, as ignorance should be met with opposition and not a deferral to political correctness.

Re: Rumour: XSEED Less Than Happy With Nintendo's About-Face On Publishing Devil's Third

Kevlar44

@Jimtaro I'm well aware of what constitutes professional journalism. The reality is they called it a "rumour", which is to say it's based off an unconfirmed source. A "rumour" is not factual and should not be regarded as such, if an individual is unable to ascertain the difference between "news" and a "rumour" i don't feel as if anyone should be compelled to cater to such ignorance. The first word of the headline is "rumour", this isn't poor journalism, it isn't reasonable to expect an ideal source to be cited or to regard this article as being irrefutably factual.

Re: Shovel Knight amiibo Confirms "Evolving" Relationship With Indies, Says Nintendo

Kevlar44

@crimsontadpoles Please tell me what game 10 years plus ago had as much content as Shovel Knight for a 15 dollar game, and we haven't even gotten all the content of the initial purchase. Anyone against this Shovel Knight Amiibo please give me an example. It's such nonsense, Shovel Knight has provided insane value for it's price point. The Amiibo content is cool and maybe not quite worth the 12 dollar cost, but the Amiibo itself is easily worth 12 dollars as a toy/figurine, and the content isn't essential to being able to enjoy the game. In fact it's exclusive to Nintendo consoles. I'd love a Shovel Knight Amiibo and i'm the cheapest dude around, i won't even buy EA games anymore because of the online pass BS. I just don't think you're argument is historically accurate, i've been gaming since the NES and never have i been able to get the amount of value from a game that indie devs like Shovel Knight have been offering. Never. 27 dollars and you get a cool figurine, a solid length adventure, and a ton of alternate modes and ways to experience the game. That's terrific value, and damn near unprecedented.

Re: Shovel Knight amiibo Confirms "Evolving" Relationship With Indies, Says Nintendo

Kevlar44

@FLUX_CAPACITOR , go you, and all those unreasonable entitled folks who want something for nothing.
Whiners going to whine. It's like people think that the purpose of a company that employs people isn't to make money. The only reason i show up to my job is for the money, which i need to feed and support my family, so why should they be expected to be different and offer up charity or convenience out of the kindness of their heart. It's BS. Supply and demand isn't something you can just expect people to ignore. It's clearly a feature that's been developed after the fact, hence it isn't on Xbox/PS4, so it's hardly a surprise that they would want some compensation for their work. Given the fact you get a tangible item and some additional content i fail to see how this isn't decent value. Perhaps it would be nice if you could purchase this stuff without the Amiibo for a cheaper price but that's not really the consumers decision and it's not rational to expect them to make buisness desicion with anything other than profitability in mind. This idea that all these features would exist regardless and now they're just adding them behind a paywall is ridiculous, how could anyone know that? If anything video games are adding value compared to yesteryear not taking it away, sure EA are scummy with online passes and stuff but this isn't the same thing. Just absurdity.

Re: Rumour: XSEED Less Than Happy With Nintendo's About-Face On Publishing Devil's Third

Kevlar44

@Jimtaro And many readers are interested in hearing inside information, i appreciate these articles and the work that goes into bringing us these sources. Nintendolife has been very reputable in posting rumors, i'm willing to trust them to the degree i find the story likely and i certainly appreciate the insight. I would strongly suggest these articles are appreciated far more than not.

Re: The Piracy of amiibo Now Seems Possible With the 'amiiqo' Device

Kevlar44

I don't think it's a big deal, a large part of the value when it comes to Amiibo is the physical property. Amiibo is popular because Nintendo gamers love having their favourite characters in statue form for a reasonable price. I think Nintendo would be wise to make a virtual Amiibo app to do the same thing but at a small cost, making it possible for users who don't want to purchase the Amiibo be able to get the content for a much cheaper price. Throw in a screen saver here and a ringtone there and you add some value to the purchase and probably have yourself a pretty popular app.

Re: Video: Three Reasons Why You Should Be Pumped For Shovel Knight's Plague Of Shadows Expansion

Kevlar44

This expansion looks awesome. I enjoyed Shovel Knight but i found it to be a bit overhyped considering i enjoyed Teslagrad and SteamWorld Dig quite a bit more. However the fact that they are releasing this new version of the game quite a bit after i beat it and with new exclusive areas has me really excited to play through it again. Plague Knight seems very interesting and different gameplay wise so it won't feel redundant. The Challenge mode however might be my favourite addition, it's a mode that's appealed to me in the past in other games (e.g. NSMBU) and it looks very well fleshed out in thee video.

Re: Video: Three Reasons Why You Should Be Pumped For Shovel Knight's Plague Of Shadows Expansion

Kevlar44

@SirQuincealot

Haha. I thought it was really easy i barely died. I also love old school games like Ghosts n' Goblins, MegaMan, Mario 3 , and DKC so comparatively speaking i found it a lot easier than the games i cut my teeth on as a kid. If you want to get good at platformers i'd suggest getting good at the classics. If you can beat those kinds of games you won't struggle with modern games that are more balanced.

Re: Genyo Takeda The Likely Choice For Nintendo President, Analysts Claim

Kevlar44

@abe_hikura

I've thought the same thing. He's got the right kind of experience in many ways having but despite managing his own studio he's still possibly short in managerial experience, but who's to say Takeda and Miyamoto can't help him with that. Sakurai i think would inject some more conventional ideas while still honoring the legacy of innovation and forward thinking of Iwata. He's an interesting person to consider IMO, but having been outside of Nintendo for so long i highly doubt it.

Re: Obituary: Satoru Iwata

Kevlar44

@JaxonH

Hit it right on the head, he came across as a truly genuine and well meaning human being. Nintendo under Iwata valued a humanistic approach to entertainment, and that is a very unusual for a large corporation today. I was truly a fan, i hope that whoever takes over next will provide the same reverence for Iwata's legacy that he did for Yamauchi's.

Re: Review: Yoshi's Woolly World (Wii U)

Kevlar44

Good Feel is an outstanding developer, that's 3 home runs in a row now. WarioLand Shake It was terrific and Kirby's Epic Yarn was a fun game despite it being very easy to beat and a great option for co-op with less skilled players.

Re: Editorial: Cheer Up, There Are Some Exciting Games on the Way

Kevlar44

It was disappointing given the lack of big releases, spinoffs aren't major releases, but i am stoked for quite a few games. I think StarFox, Zelda, Metroid Prime:FF (which i think does fit in to the universe, and i like the idea of a spinoff) should be really fun. Mario Maker is probably my most anticipated game since a Link between Worlds (as a NES/SNES kid i love throwbacks, Metroid maker would be incredible but i digress). Yoshi should also be terrific and despite the fact i've never been into Yoshi games Good Feel always delivers. Xenoblade to me is the best looking JRPG i've ever seen, and i might actually play it (i rarely play JRPG's). I think what honestly hurt them the most, for me at least, is they've been killing it the last few E3's with surprise releases. Also their major releases were all known beforehand, with no major surprise reveals after establishing an expectation for that the last few years.

Re: Hyrule Warriors Is Slashing Its Way to 3DS

Kevlar44

@omalleycat215

Cool, good to know. I believe the game is just shy of 9 gb with all the DLC content included so it seems pretty extreme to me, although i'm sure they'll find ways to shrink the size of the game via textures and whatnot given the 3DS being less powerful. It's going to be interesting to see.
