@ricklongo Yeah i actually don't recall having a problem with that. It only froze once for me in the 4th dungeon, just as i was on my way to the final boss. I saved like crazy. I actually 100%ed it. I'm sending you some good luck, maybe try getting a firefly or something to change the conditions. I'm actually surprised this passed lotcheck or whatever it's called, i thought they screened for bugs in that but i guess not. It's kind of a shame tbh, this game would have probably been at least a 9 in my books without the bugs.
Some puzzles sure were tricky to figure out, like how to get in the pit of trials or whatever it was called. The harmony puzzles were a little too tricky for me at times, some of those firefly's took me a quite a while to get.
I liked Elliot's Quest more i'd say but i didn't actually finish it, i encountered the graveyard glitch. That was a bad one, but to their credit they fixed it, and that game had almost no issues for me. These two games are the only games i can ever remember making maps for, i made maps to tell me which area was where and what i had to get in them in Elliot's quest and i made maps in C. of Teddy so i knew where firefly's were and what secrets/areas i couldn't access yet. It was an awesome throwback to have to do that.
A 6? I beat this game and i have no idea how you'd rate it a 6 because of the gameplay/action. This is a really great game. The only issues i had with it were way too many glitches, freezing and sound issues, and some one of the mandatory harmony puzzles was quite difficult. The combat was very satisfying, the secrets were plentiful and well thought out, the story was solid, the presentation was amazing. I'd give it an 8/10, and it would be even a bit higher without the glitches. If you liked Elliot's Quest then pick this up.
I think the gamepad is excellent but it has a couple major flaws. The range in which it works was extremely disappointing upon getting it. I also think it was a mistake not to allow it to function as a tablet, Android is free and the computing parts for it to be able to run an independent OS would have been cheap to include. Those two things alone would have greatly increased the marketability of the Wii U.
Just going to repost my thoughts on My Nintendo since i don't seem to be the only dissatisfied user.
After thinking about it i find it to be pretty broken. Why do you get no points for a 5 dollar purchase? Why does it need to be 7 dollars spent for 10 points? Why is a 13.99 purchase worth as much as a 7 dollar purchase? Why don't i get any points for retail purchases? Although it's admittedly a minor complaint why do i have to click on some bogus button to claim my points for my loyal patronage? How come i didn't get an email with points for my previous Club Nintendo account, that i was many times over platinum on, am i not as valuable as some Nintendo customers?
Club Nintendo had it's flaws but they've just replaced those with new flaws. At lest with Club Nintendo i was rewarded for every purchase retail and lesser ones, i could get physical gifts, i didn't have to do anything for some points, and i could do a survey for extra points. Sure the redemption system could be archaic at times and the survey's kind of sucked, but at least it was fair.
It's an easy fix but it kind of a pisses me off that it's so dumb. Give me points for my retail purchases, those are my biggest purchases. If i have to do some extra work to get my coins for retail purchases i understand that, and if i don't want to it's no worse than it is now. Make every dollar on the eShop worth the same, i.e. 1 dollar =1 point as it's roughly what they're offering instead of some arbitrary BS. Don't treat me like a second class customer and give me the same benefits others are enjoying, like say those points to previous Club Nintendo members.
Also in the future if they are tracking my account activity why not reward players for time played, games beaten, ranking titles on the eShop, ect... At this point it's just a worse but slightly more convenient Club Nintendo. I was excited for the new loyalty program but all it's done is make me feel like i have less of a reason to be loyal.
Why do the screw everything up other than making games? I'm getting tired of it tbh, and i'm one of their biggest fans/customers. The only thing they do better than making games is alienating their fans. My Nintendo's flaws aren't a huge deal but in the context of everything it's another bundle of straw closer to breaking the camels back.
Edit: Also 6 month expiry is ridiculous, as are the amount of Gold Coins needed for some stingy discount. What a joke. But hey at least the site is fast and the network is quick to recognize activity, DeNA seems to have done their job well so why can't Nintendo?
@BLD When i say "people just don't like it because of the story and it isn't Prime" i'm obviously generalizing. There's always people with more developed opinions on why they dislike something. But my point is every game has flaws, many of Other M's perceived flaws are very similar to what they did in Fusion. Honestly, i don't get how that can be ignored.
I also don't think the Prime example of a gamer's being unsure but then loving it is applicable. When Prime came out there was no standard for a 3D Metroid game, after 3 of them people were clearly attached to the formula and now had expectations for a 3D Metroid. Prime was also very much a return to the series roots in terms of exploration and adventure, as it was very much just Super Metroid 2 in a 3D enviroment. Prime also didn't have any voice acting and rather limited story telling. Other M however had a far less established base game it derived it's structure from, and that's Fusion.
The hate it's received is insanely over the top and ridiculous, with every single short coming or minor complaint being lambasted to justify the generally petty reasons it's disliked. It's fair for someone to not like it, but i have a hard time thinking that having to use a dpad was really that bad or that getting used to the pointer missile controls was gamebreaking. The controls were very good despite some room for improvement and in no way hindered the game.
I'm not saying the game was a masterpiece but there's a reason it reviewed very well and many many less vocal fans really enjoyed it. It's really not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, it's in fact really fresh and inventive. I do think there's a lot that can be improved but that's not unusual for a game that was in many respects very unique and well polished. It's all just my opinion but i do think if it wasn't a Metroid title Other M is a game that would be remembered very fondly for the unique controls, quality combat, terrific graphic and cutscenes, a terrific map layout, and environment. The story and voice acting were sub par but that's about it, IMO everything else was a minor flaw nitpicked to the extreme.
@Kilroy I don't know if i'd say it "practically did it for you" but it's certainly fairly linear, however it's no more so than Fusion IMO. I do think it's a valid complaint to a degree, i just think it's hard to state it's an issue in that game but not Fusion as well.
The Auto aim was really well done IMO, and combat was certainly much more involved than just pressing "A". The auto aim ensured push over enemies didn't become redundant, while the Melee was a terrific inclusion that rewarded good reflexes and made combat more dynamic. Also despite finding the Missile mechanic of using the pointer very awkward at first i ended up loving it, although i'd prefer the option to move while using it. But really lets be honest, the combat in every Metroid game is rather easy and in comparison to previous iterations Other M definitely had the most challenge.
I do recall some being rather easy, but that honestly the case in pretty much all the titles. A fair amount were cleverly hidden IMO. However in saying that you probably make at least a somewhat legitimate point as i seem to recall 100%ing Other M easier than any other Metroid title (iirc they do offer map hints after beating the game, more so that even Fusion or ZM). Super Metroid was ridiculous as a kid to 100% and i don't think i actually ever did until i was quite a bit older and i had the benefit of exchanging secrets with others, i'm old school and my gaming predates the internet so i never had that advantage as a kid and i don't believe in it now. lol. Also Zero Mission was a pain to find all the secrets in, but i did it. The Prime games i recall being quite easy, the scanning was the only barrier to 100% as some things iirc had to be done in the moment or couldn't be done at all. So yeah fair point but i'd suggest it's quite overstated.
I get some of your complaints but it's not fair to expect it to be a perfect game, it's certainly more action oriented than any other Metroid title and i think it would serve you well to appreciate it for what it is than to hate it for what it isn't. I'd honestly have loved a sequel that took the best of both worlds and allowed for the player to switch between perspectives, or have the game do it for some bosses or some rooms.
@CreamyDream
Oh i agree this game going with the Chibi style is flat out stupid. I also think it was foolish not to add a short 1 player mode as Samus and intertwine the Federation Force gameplay/story with a main line Metroid adventure, even if it is half baked like Hunters allegedly is.
@sandman89
See my issue with Hunters is the single player by all accounts and from what i've seen is rather lackluster, with the main appeal being multiplayer. Obviously i can't do the multiplayer aspect now with the DS servers being shut down, and i'm not sure i care to do the single player enough to "get" the controls which at first blush i really don't like. I do think my control issues are probably just a matter of used to them though. I also think it's kinda bland and ugly, but that's not a deal breaker for me. I'm sure i'll play it I just worry the main appeal of the game has passed me by so i'm far from in a rush to do so. Would you say the single player is a good time?
I've beaten every single Metroid game other than Pinball and Hunters (i'm not too sure if i care to) and i don't get the backlash... It doesn't look like it'll be anywhere near my favourite Metroid game but i really like the idea of expanding the series and creating a spin off. Just because they are making this doesn't mean they won't or aren't making a main line game in the Metroid/Prime series. I could really do without the Chibi style and i wish there was a real single player mode, but I expect it'll be a good game.
I know from experience that Metroid fans can be very fickle, as Other M is an excellent game that people hate for a couple of stupid moments in the story and because it isn't a Prime game. Gameplay wise it was really good and essentially a 3D version of Fusion. The combat in it was the best in the series. It's certainly not the best game in the series but to suggest it's anything other than a very very good game is ridiculous. The problem for it is all the 2D games are masterpieces and the Prime games are too, but it's still flat out excellent.
@A01 Unplayable? Wow that's a massive overstatement. Me and my wife beat the game on multiplayer and my nephews play together all the time with little issue. At times it definitely lags a bit, but games have been doing that since the NES days, and it's not consistent. There have been a handful of times it was kinda bad, but it's not very often and it straightens itself out right away. There's also less enemies rendered at a time while separated, and that's probably my biggest issue, but it's far from "unplayable". Either you had some bad luck with a poor first impression and wrote it off too soon, a HDD issue, or IMO are just way too picky. It's one of my favourite co-op games of all time and having my own screen is a big reason why.
@KTT That's a separate issue all together, Club Nintendo could have been expanded to the other countries that My Nintendo is in. I thought Club Nintendo was really flawed too, my point is if you do something to upgrade the service then actually upgrade it or make it good. I feel for you guys though, that would have been bogus.
@KoopaTheGamer They knew the plan was to release this program a long time ago, they could have started putting point vouchers in a long time ago or continue with the Club Nintendo vouchers. It's a poor excuse.
After thinking about it i find it to be pretty broken. Why do you get no points for a 5 dollar purchase? Why does it need to be 7 dollars spent for 10 points? @Simbabbad Yeah i didn't get that comment either. The gameplay is entirely unique and the graphics being hand drawn makes it one of the most visually stunning games i've ever played, and the visuals will age just fine because they are hand drawn.
@Alundra-1998 Monster Tale was an excellent Metroidvania, although they are remastering it for the eshop.
Tetris DS is the best Tetris game ever made by a long shot, multiple different and inventive modes and all are excellent.
Yoshi Touch and Go gets a hard time from some for being "incomplete" but it's probably my favourite game on the system, it's a ridiculously fun high score chaser.
@CHET_SWINGLINE Personal attachment? That just sounds like an excuse to not consider the merits of my argument, you know the one you've ignored the entire time, that's why you keep making straw man arguments like "personal attachment", "benefit from it in some personal way" to discredit me without actually rebutting my particular position. I don't take games out at the library and my wife will still have a job for the foreseeable future if they don't lend them out, my personal connection to the issue has only provided my with an educated opinion not any kind of bias that doesn't allow me to consider the merits of your argument or any other. In fact i've addressed each one of your points specifically, which apparently is a "diatribe" to you and not a well thought out argument as it would be considered in any objective setting, while you've attempted to pass off straw men arguments while making personal assumptions about people you don't know such as generalizing librarians and their opinions, or by alluding to my "political persuasion" which you clearly know nothing of.
Trust me my "political persuasions" are almost assuredly far more educated and complex than yours, i actually understand the political philosophy that's shaped our current governments like Hobbes, Locke, Smith, Voltaire, and so on and so forth. Ideology ought to be shaped by facts, not the other way around, although i'm sure that point will be lost on you. Wisdom is when pragmatism (right side, self interest) and prudence (left side, idealism) are one in the same, or lacking that possibility a fair and balanced consideration of both realities. That means an intelligent and considerate view point considers the specific realities and merits of each particular situation and is not a generalization, so it ought to not adhere to the left or the right but rather the most relevant and fully realized perspectives and empirical data.
I'm attempting to consider the merits of all view points, it's why i bother to debate you, if i can't prove it wrong or you prove me wrong then i probably need to reconsider my position as i have had to do before on other issues, however if you fail to address my actual position i can assure you you will never convince anyone with a shred of self worth and confidence anything.
Enjoy life and perhaps learn something from this, i know you probably dislike me now and will prefer to ignore any point i make but i'm confident in saying that it would be your loss.
I'd pay for this. I love Ghosts n' Goblins, the SNES version is among my all time favourite games, and i've desperately wanted a true sequel to it for a long time. The PSP and iOS games really didn't do it for me, although perhaps i need to give the PSP game another shot.
@CHET_SWINGLINE "But I'm assuming you work for the library, or else benefit from it in some other way, since you are clearly so offended by the slightest of insults to its usefulness."
That's not snarky? I was hardly acting offended by replying with a concise and well thought out reply. I didn't insult your POV I simply stated how the current times doesn't support that idea of a library that only offers books and edutainment.
I also don't know what you mean by "overreacting". I'm a philosophy guy, as such i love a good debate. This is fun to me. Debating the merits of our particular viewpoints isn't overreacting, it's essential to a more considerate and progressive society.
@CHET_SWINGLINE And you should understand if you make a snarky comment questioning the legitimacy of my motives i'm going to point out my relation and i may not be super friendly, although i was far from rude, the comment is literally one comment above the reply to yours.
But is it a waste? If it's within the library's current mandate i don't understand why it's wasteful, is it because you've arbitrarily decided on your own subjective grounds as to what aspects and to what degree of their mandate they ought to carry out? Its within their mandate, to inform and educate. Playing video games does have quite a bit of educational value, reading, spatial awareness, problem solving, technological understanding and comfort, and understanding and relating to various forms of entertainment all have inherent value in eliminating personal ignorance.
Good debate, i'm sure you'll still disagree and i do find it odd you've still manged to ignore essentially everything i've saidexcept for a couple minor points on taxes and my wife's occuption, especially considering i pointed out my main point a second time, but that's your loss.
@Chabrolesque Are libraries only for educational purposes? I don't think Archie Comics, or many magazines have a ton of educational value apart from the reading, and even then video games have a ton of reading too. Here's a random library mission statement i pulled from google, "Our vision is a vibrant community where all people are informed, literate and entertained." That last word is key, the library is not just here to provide a place to learn but to entertain, and it's been that way for a long time and the current trends are necessitating that.
Movies and music are a subjective medium, and especially in the case of music it's a matter of one's POV if Yo Yo Ma really is more essential to the cultural foundation of our citizens. Hey i'd love for the library to throw out the Bieber and Swift and get truly talented individuals like Andrew Bird, Classical music, Miles Davis, ect... But as of now we have to be content with the fact that they offer all of those. When you say the best movies, that's a value statement, and as much as i agree that the vast majority of hollywood blockbusters are garbage our opinions aren't the only relevant ones. Some could argue Sharknado appeals to them as a satirical piece that uses humor to criticize the over the top action movies devoid of plot that are common place today.
If the library only offered education it would be a far less busy place, and the chance of someone wanting to use it for learning would dramatically decrease. It's a slippery slope at both sides of the argument, but ultimately they need to appeal to as wide a variety of individuals as possible to stay relevant and avoid projecting any inherent individual values in regards to subjective medium as the library is a service for everyone and thus needs to value the values of everyone in the community. Sadly if you polled most tax payers, the ones who fund the library, on what music and movies have the most value to them i don't think it's going to be documentaries and Classical music...
@CHET_SWINGLINE The municipalities aren't broke... We're i'm from the province is barely in debt and the city isn't at all. City tax comes from property tax and whatever the province allots them, that money couldn't be used for anything outside it's jurisdiction. If my tax money is being used to fund a service that's actively being used i can think of a worse use of tax payer funds. On the list of poor use of tax money i can think of a lot worse uses, like say building sport teams arenas. I love sports but the amount of subsidization that goes into pro sports at all levels of governements is truly absurd. There are a ton of other wasteful ventures too.
You clearly were "suggesting" or implying that the library shouldn't offer multi-media like video games. duh. I already said my wife works for the library, but that's not the reason for my argument she'd still have a job if they only offered books so my "benefit" has nothing to do with that. My point is about adapting to the times, and i think i made a pretty strong one that you manged to ignore. You need to understand the demographics and the changing roles that libraries have had to embrace to stay relevant. I wouldn't mind some of their services being made more efficient and i'd love to drastically reduce tax dollars spent but the library isn't a problem here and it's far from the most pressing. Like i said kids come in for games, and end up with books, taking parts in programs, using computers they don't have access to, and staying out of trouble in a safe place. If the library was just for books and perhaps computer use, most of which is used to play games btw, then current usage for the service would be dwindling and far lower. The video games they buy may end up costing more than one would like, although like i said late fees help offset the expense a fair bit, but it also ensures that the staff on hand is keeping busy and helping a lot of people. For some poorer kids the library is where they get most of the games they play, and in doing so they create a life long connection to the service.
@CHET_SWINGLINE In Canada those issues don't really apply as libraries are municipally funded. The reality is that in this day and age many patrons of the library are there for programs, tech help, printing, multi-media, and most of all computer use. The vast majority of patrons who actually borrow books are elderly, as most people just use the internet to find the information they need or seek entertainment through other mean. Furthrmore those who are younger and do read either have school libraries as a reading source or prefer to purchase their own copies of books. You're suggestion is to allow for libraries to become obsolete.
The younger generations don't value them as much as the previous ones, at least not for books, the reality is reading, writing, and language skills can be acquired through all of the muti-media being offered and as the contemporary society of today seeks out these new ways to learn and be entertained the libraries are forced to adapt or be left behind. If you want more young people to read the first step is getting them into the libraries in the first place.
@CHET_SWINGLINE It does cause a lot of additional patrons to come into the library, many of which will sometimes end up getting books as well. Also the library has rented out movies and CD's for a long long time, at least here in Canada, and i don't really see the difference. With 1 dollar per day late fees, books are like 5 cents, i'd imagine that over the course of a video games shelf life they actually pay for about half of it, as late video game returns are along with movies the most common late fees issued. Also if the game isn't returned it costs the individual the cost of the game and something like 20 dollars for a restocking fee. It's a good way to keep libraries relevant.
@DarthNocturnal My Wife's librarian and video games are one of their most popular items. If you think this story is bad consider that up until recently the library would count games as returned but missing/incomplete if the borrower brought back the game case without the game. This meant that they wouldn't be charged for not returning it, but a note did go on the account. Some kid got wise to it and had like 20 games, they changed the policy and called the parents threatening to charge them for the games and he came in with all of them on a CD stack with the library stickers removed. lol. It took them like 2 years to close that loophole. Like seriously how stupid is that, who cares about the case. Government funded programs/institutions can be so dumb.
@LemonSlice No, DSi Ware games are currently not able to be emulated or ran via Flash Cart on a DSi. You can get a Flash Cart that plays 3DS eshop games, but i`m not sure if that includes DSi Ware and i know it doesn`t include GBA VC.
The best of the best: Trajectile - This game is amazing. Must have. Iirc it's called reflect shot in EU. Shantae: Risky's Revenge - Awesome Metroidvania Dark Void Zero - A really great NES throwback title. G.G. Series: Ninja Karakuri Den: It's simple but awesome.
Really good: Spotto! - Simple but i really enjoyed it. Bird & Beans - Simple arcade style score chaser. Very fun. Army Defender - It's simple but really fun. Not as g Go! Go! Kokopolo - Very fast paced. Iirc no longer available. Starship Defense - A fun tower defense game, gets hard to ace. Mighty Flip Champs - Haven't got that far into it but it's a neat concept and the Mighty series has been good to me. Zelda:4 Swords - Nothing special as a single player game but it's still Zelda. Abyss - Simple game i got for cheap on the Wii U. It's pretty fun.
Some i've got and really need to play since they seem to be quite promising:
Zenonia - Zelda clone that seems to be well done. Snapdots - Looks like fun puzzle game, one day i'll pick it up. Maestro! Green Grove - Looks like a really good rhythm game.
Really good game, i beat it some time ago on my 3DS and i liked it more than the last Shantae game. Also i don't really get the complaint in regards to the overworld map, i remember thinking they did an excellent job considering the layout of the game goes left to right and background to foreground. It's not perfect but it is really good.
@Luffymcduck A small tip, and i'll try not to make it a spoiler but there is a certain mark that lets you know where they are, and they are only found in certain types of levels which i'm sure you know if you've found 3. If you know what to look for and where they're pretty easy to find tbh.
My favourite is the Teslamancer and then Rusty, i did play quite a bit as Shovel Knight though. I have to find some time to play as Xeodrifter but you get him so late.
@Ben_Rage_V2
Neat link, i've never heard of that technology and i'm thinking one would actually have to use it to really grasp it's true potential. Whether or not these images are real or fake i find speculating on possible designs very interesting. Nintendo seems to always think out of the box and do something unexpected and innovative, and honestly they haven't let me down yet. I do think the gamepad could/should of been much better but the Wii U has thus far been an excellent system and the gamepad has brought a ton of enjoyment into my household. I also know Miyamoto in the past has stated that touchscreen buttons don't work for traditional gaming experiences, and are more suitable to smaller more casual games. I highly doubt we end up with a controller that doesn't have the capability to play games in a more traditional manner.
As for you're point on negativity, i agree. It's crazy to me that people who know nothing about what the controller may do or the possibilities that exsist are so up in arms over it. Heck they don't even know if it's real. It could suck, but it could also be beyond anything a person ever thought possible. Nintendo's been making excellent games for a long time and even if you don't cre for the gamepad or WiiMote they've never made a controller you couldn't have fun with, either via traditional means or new inventive styles.
Witch and Hero 2 is something i'm excited for. NintendoLife should really redo the review for the original game, it's quite awful, i didn't care for the game at first as i didn't understand why i wasn't "attacking" nor the mechanics of playing it properly but once i figured it out i ended up loving it. It being rated 2 stars out of 10 is just a horrendous review, many people love this games and suggesting it's "Terrible" and players should "Avoid this miserable specimen of a game at all costs. Any manner of game breaking faults may have contributed to a game being awarded a two, suffice to say this game is not for you. Move on, there is nothing to see here." is a travesty and embarrassment. Look at the comments, you can see after some people got a chance to play it very many people strongly disagreed with the review. It's just sad that people will see the review and not get a very enjoyable game because of it, 2 stars is just wrong. It may not be for everyone, and it's fine for one person not to get it i guess, but it's pretty clear that it's an opinion that isn't very popular or representative of most gamers.
@Quorthon So let me get this right, you don't like the Gamepad and wish that Nintendo woud just make regular games for a regular controller, like Sony, yet you're upset that DKC didn't make use of the gamepad? You do know that the Wii U has a standard controller avaliable, called the Wii U Pro, that you can use if you find the Gamepad uncomfortable (i'll never get that POV but whatever) or not needed, and with games like DKC you actually got what you wished for. I see this hypocrisy all the time of "i want to use a regular controller yet i won't consider using the Wii U Pro controller when given the opportunity and will instead complain that the gamepad isn't being utilized". The gamepad was great for some games and for others it was just a handy device to play games on their own display, i love how Nintendo offers choice and many ways to play games why does everything have to be gamepad centric? So you can complain that you just want a regular controller?
@andrea987 Although Nintendo generally does believe in Gunpei Yokoi's "Lateral Thinking of Withered Technology" theory of using well known and cheap tech in new revolutionary ways it doesn't mean they aren't willing to innovate and try more technologically advanced things. The most obvious example is the 3D in a 3DS, Sattalview was very revolutionary in it's time, aspects of the VirtuaBoy's 3D technology were also very revolutionary despite it's Red and Black only display.
I swear i didn't see that before making my comment (after checking it's post time, it was posted on GoNintendo after mine), i actually made the exact same comment in a GameXplain video after the first leak. Not that it matters. lol.
Awesome. Great Work, thanks for the link. I have seen that before but quite some time ago and that's a but simplier but also very easy to pull off, if they can produce it for 100 dollars a year ago for a limited run then i'm sure Nintendo can have it made for far far cheaper. I think this technology is really neat and has some great potential. I hate touch screen button controls but i feel like the possibilities for gaming will best be realized with many different control possibilities. Touch, motion, AR/VR, and of course standard buttons available all in one controller/on one system is something i'd love to experience.
@SanderEvers The fact that Nintendo can mass produce, and is using it for such a small screen may make it far more affordable than for most outfits. I can't say i know the average cost of doing something like that but i do know Nintendo could do it far cheaper than what can typically be done.
My guess is this controller will have the option to create buttons wherever they are needed by using microfluidics. As you could see from the first image there was a clearly visible B button that looked slightly raised but was also a part of the display. Tactus technology has invented touch screen technology that allows for buttons and contours to be created anywhere using microfluidics, it's commonly used in hospitals and iirc is behind the recent technology of Braile tablets.
So basically we would be getting a fully customizable controller in terms of button layouts, a touchscreen, two analog sticks, and likely motion controls, and possibly even infrared technology given the camera. This could literally be a typical controller and more, basically whatever you wanted it to be/do it can. Crazy, i hope this is true and i'm on to something with my speculation. The technology exists.
My only gripe is that i hope they add handle grips. But i read an idea on Youtube i think could make a lot of sense, perhaps this controller can be inserted into a shell to make it like a gamepad.
@Sakura Actually as far as i know the PS3 can actually run homebrew and backups too, iirc the same people who modded the Wii ended up doing the same for the PS3. The PSP is hacked too. The Vita is hacked to play homebrew and emulators, but not backups. I'm sure the Vita's limited library makes it less desirable for people to mod or emulate, but i'm sure the more advanced tech in it compared to a 3DS makes it more difficult too.
The 3DS has been out for some time and with the success of the DS hacking scene, and the ability to work off the homebrew scene already on the DS, the 3DS has only been finally able to run backups and unsigned code of significance in the past few years. I believe it took over 3 years for anything major, outside of DS mode, to be done on the 3DS. I don't mod current hardware, updates and a belief in supporting current games makes me refrain from doing so, so im far from an expert on the subject but afaik it really did take quite a while for the 3DS to get to the point it's at now, and it's nowhere near what the DS was.
I think the 3DS being ahead of the curve has more to do with it's age than anything else tbh. Basically Nintendo is a little bit ahead of the curve for emulation and console modding but Sony really isn't far behind, in fact PS3 emulator does exist that can run a few games. Actually even the 360 has an emulator that can run a couple games. It's pretty crazy what people can do, the definitely don't make it easy.
@Sakura Sony is actually pretty on par as far as emulation. The Wii was basically just an updated gamecube which made it rather easy to emulate. In fact the Wii itself can emulate gamecube because it's so similar, a softmodded Wii U can play gamecube games in Wii mode. With Sony everything up to the PS2-PSP has been emulated, and the PS3 i understand has been progressing. So Nintendo is one generation ahead in terms of being emulated, with the Wii being doable but not the PS3, but again that's only because the Wii is so close to the Gamecube.
Cemu is still likely a long ways away from being a legit way to play more than a couple games. And by the time it is the PS3 emulator will probably be a thing as well. Im sure the fact that the Wii U came out earlier than the PS4 and it's weaker, therefore easier to emulate, is also part of the reason it's ahead of the curve. I also do think they get targeted a bit more since they have more software that doesn't also receive a PC release.
XBOX games have traditionally been far more likely to have PC ports, even first party, than the other two consoles making emulation less appealing. Basically you'd need a very strong PC to play 360 games which is basically going to be a worse version than what you can already play on your PC. But i do think Microsoft is a little bit ahead of the game in terms of encryption and what not, hence the original XBOX still hasn't been emulated but again there just isn't the same amount of incentive since barely any games can't be played on either PC natively or via emulation of a PS2 or GC.
Finally. I'll be picking this up. I always found it weird when games that are so strongly inspired by Nintendo don't come to this platform first. Not that it's a big deal either, i just think it would have received a lot of fan fare being a Nintendo exclusive first.
It's an excellent title, i would suggest it's far better suited to a home console, the Wii U especially because of the gamepad, than the 3DS though. It's the kind of game i find is better suited to long play sessions and not really a pick up and play, but it's not like the 3DS can't be used for that either. Regardless it's a treat to play, i actually ended up making my own map with a legend on where certain places were, like an old school game. I'd love to see something else from this developer, although the upcoming game Olympia Rising is from the same publisher and it has a similar art style and looks awesome. My only gripe was i encountered a pretty bad bug early after it's release but to the credit of the developer they worked hard to patch the game and correct it.
Probably a pretty fair list but Dr.Mario is a sadly missing. It's IMO the only puzzle game i consider to be on the same level as Tetris. If you count the original Peggle on DS too then that's pretty close for me also. It's just so awesome. Dr.Mario is the Rodney Dangerfield of Mario IMO.
@Manjushri I suppose i get what you mean but It's still just a button, no different than a joystick. Is it it really that hard to waggle it in a slightly different direction? Regardless it's easier than i thought...
@Fidu
Apologies i think i may have been wrong, you use the control stick in conjunction with the waggle. It still feels really fluid and i'm guessing when i played i just did what i wanted to anyway naturally. It's certainly more dynamic than just pressing A.
@Detective_TeeJay Get over yourself. It was a simple addition. All they did was utilize the pointer and map the sword to a button that happened to be a waggle. I'v beaten every official Zelda game besides Spirit Tracks, and i really enjoyed them.

Re: Review: Chronicles Of Teddy: Harmony Of Exidus (Wii U eShop)
Re: Review: Chronicles Of Teddy: Harmony Of Exidus (Wii U eShop)
Re: Poll: The Wii U GamePad - Where Do You Stand on Nintendo's Hefty Controller?
I think the gamepad is excellent but it has a couple major flaws. The range in which it works was extremely disappointing upon getting it. I also think it was a mistake not to allow it to function as a tablet, Android is free and the computing parts for it to be able to run an independent OS would have been cheap to include. Those two things alone would have greatly increased the marketability of the Wii U.
Re: Reminder: Six Wii U Games Are Now Discounted to Nintendo Selects Prices in the European eShop
I wish Lego City would come to NA as a selects title.
Tropical Freeze is awesome btw.
Re: Get Ready To Spend Those Platinum Points, New My Nintendo Rewards Are Live
Re: Nintendo of America Opens the Teaser Site for Metroid Prime: Federation Force
Re: Nintendo of America Opens the Teaser Site for Metroid Prime: Federation Force
@CreamyDream
Oh i agree this game going with the Chibi style is flat out stupid. I also think it was foolish not to add a short 1 player mode as Samus and intertwine the Federation Force gameplay/story with a main line Metroid adventure, even if it is half baked like Hunters allegedly is.
@sandman89
Re: Nintendo of America Opens the Teaser Site for Metroid Prime: Federation Force
Re: Digital Foundry Puts the Star Fox Zero Resolution and Framerate to the Test
Re: Chronicles Of Teddy: Harmony Of Exidus
Will there ever be a review as promised?
Re: Talking Point: My Nintendo's Pros, Cons and Areas for Improvement
@KTT That's a separate issue all together, Club Nintendo could have been expanded to the other countries that My Nintendo is in. I thought Club Nintendo was really flawed too, my point is if you do something to upgrade the service then actually upgrade it or make it good. I feel for you guys though, that would have been bogus.
Re: Talking Point: My Nintendo's Pros, Cons and Areas for Improvement
@KoopaTheGamer They knew the plan was to release this program a long time ago, they could have started putting point vouchers in a long time ago or continue with the Club Nintendo vouchers. It's a poor excuse.

Re: Nintendo Download: 7th April (Europe)
@Simbabbad Yeah i didn't get that comment either. The gameplay is entirely unique and the graphics being hand drawn makes it one of the most visually stunning games i've ever played, and the visuals will age just fine because they are hand drawn.
Re: Rumour: Nintendo has Discontinued Production of Nintendo DS Cartridges Around the World
@Alundra-1998 Monster Tale was an excellent Metroidvania, although they are remastering it for the eshop.
Tetris DS is the best Tetris game ever made by a long shot, multiple different and inventive modes and all are excellent.
Yoshi Touch and Go gets a hard time from some for being "incomplete" but it's probably my favourite game on the system, it's a ridiculously fun high score chaser.
Re: Weirdness: This Has To Be The Most Underhanded Way Of Obtaining The N64's Rarest Fighter
Re: Abylight Is Aware Of Demand For A 3DS Port Of Locomalito's Maldita Castilla
I'd pay for this. I love Ghosts n' Goblins, the SNES version is among my all time favourite games, and i've desperately wanted a true sequel to it for a long time. The PSP and iOS games really didn't do it for me, although perhaps i need to give the PSP game another shot.
Re: Weirdness: This Has To Be The Most Underhanded Way Of Obtaining The N64's Rarest Fighter
Re: Weirdness: This Has To Be The Most Underhanded Way Of Obtaining The N64's Rarest Fighter
Re: Weirdness: This Has To Be The Most Underhanded Way Of Obtaining The N64's Rarest Fighter
Re: Weirdness: This Has To Be The Most Underhanded Way Of Obtaining The N64's Rarest Fighter
Re: Splatoon to Arrive on 3DS Under the Name "Splatoon Legends"
Too obvious... lol.
Re: Weirdness: This Has To Be The Most Underhanded Way Of Obtaining The N64's Rarest Fighter

Re: Weirdness: This Has To Be The Most Underhanded Way Of Obtaining The N64's Rarest Fighter
Re: The Nintendo DSi Shop Shuts Down Next Year
@LemonSlice No, DSi Ware games are currently not able to be emulated or ran via Flash Cart on a DSi. You can get a Flash Cart that plays 3DS eshop games, but i`m not sure if that includes DSi Ware and i know it doesn`t include GBA VC.
Re: Nintendo Download: 31st March (North America)
Chronicles of Teddy looks awesome. So i`ll be picking up that for sure. Pokken Tournament Demo seems like a no brainer.
Re: The Nintendo DSi Shop Shuts Down Next Year
@Undead_terror
Do you or anyone else know if any of them are good?
Re: The Nintendo DSi Shop Shuts Down Next Year
There were some great games on the DSi shop.
The best of the best:
Trajectile - This game is amazing. Must have. Iirc it's called reflect shot in EU.
Shantae: Risky's Revenge - Awesome Metroidvania
Dark Void Zero - A really great NES throwback title.
G.G. Series: Ninja Karakuri Den: It's simple but awesome.
Really good:
Spotto! - Simple but i really enjoyed it.
Bird & Beans - Simple arcade style score chaser. Very fun.
Army Defender - It's simple but really fun. Not as g
Go!
Re: Review: Shantae: Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut (Wii U eShop)
Really good game, i beat it some time ago on my 3DS and i liked it more than the last Shantae game. Also i don't really get the complaint in regards to the overworld map, i remember thinking they did an excellent job considering the layout of the game goes left to right and background to foreground. It's not perfect but it is really good.
Re: Shovel Knight Is Playable in Mutant Mudds Super Challenge
@Luffymcduck A small tip, and i'll try not to make it a spoiler but there is a certain mark that lets you know where they are, and they are only found in certain types of levels which i'm sure you know if you've found 3. If you know what to look for and where they're pretty easy to find tbh.
Re: Shovel Knight Is Playable in Mutant Mudds Super Challenge
My favourite is the Teslamancer and then Rusty, i did play quite a bit as Shovel Knight though. I have to find some time to play as Xeodrifter but you get him so late.
Re: Rumour: New Nintendo NX Controller Images Surface and Set the Web Alight
@Ben_Rage_V2
Re: Video: Check Out the Launch Trailer for Slain!
Re: Nintendo Download: 24th March (North America)
Re: Rumour: New Nintendo NX Controller Images Surface and Set the Web Alight
Re: Rumour: New Nintendo NX Controller Images Surface and Set the Web Alight
@andrea987 Although Nintendo generally does believe in Gunpei Yokoi's "Lateral Thinking of Withered Technology" theory of using well known and cheap tech in new revolutionary ways it doesn't mean they aren't willing to innovate and try more technologically advanced things. The most obvious example is the 3D in a 3DS, Sattalview was very revolutionary in it's time, aspects of the VirtuaBoy's 3D technology were also very revolutionary despite it's Red and Black only display.
Re: Rumour: New Nintendo NX Controller Images Surface and Set the Web Alight
@Jayvir @SanderEvers @ShadowKiller97 @MGray
And strangely enough today on GoNintendo....
http://gonintendo.com/stories/254628-morphable-touch-screen-company-s-patents-reference-nintendo-wii
I swear i didn't see that before making my comment (after checking it's post time, it was posted on GoNintendo after mine), i actually made the exact same comment in a GameXplain video after the first leak. Not that it matters. lol.
Re: Rumour: New Nintendo NX Controller Images Surface and Set the Web Alight
@Shadowkiller97
Re: Rumour: New Nintendo NX Controller Images Surface and Set the Web Alight
@SanderEvers The fact that Nintendo can mass produce, and is using it for such a small screen may make it far more affordable than for most outfits. I can't say i know the average cost of doing something like that but i do know Nintendo could do it far cheaper than what can typically be done.
Re: Rumour: New Nintendo NX Controller Images Surface and Set the Web Alight
Re: Version 1.4.0 of Wii U Emulator, Cemu, Shows More Rapid Progress
Re: Version 1.4.0 of Wii U Emulator, Cemu, Shows More Rapid Progress
Re: Axiom Verge Confirmed for Wii U Release Later This Year
Finally. I'll be picking this up. I always found it weird when games that are so strongly inspired by Nintendo don't come to this platform first. Not that it's a big deal either, i just think it would have received a lot of fan fare being a Nintendo exclusive first.
Re: Elliot Quest Developer on the Upcoming 3DS Port
Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Favourite Mario Spin-Offs
Probably a pretty fair list but Dr.Mario is a sadly missing. It's IMO the only puzzle game i consider to be on the same level as Tetris. If you count the original Peggle on DS too then that's pretty close for me also. It's just so awesome. Dr.Mario is the Rodney Dangerfield of Mario IMO.
Re: Twilight Princess HD Nearly Had Wii Remote Controls
@Manjushri
I suppose i get what you mean but It's still just a button, no different than a joystick. Is it it really that hard to waggle it in a slightly different direction? Regardless it's easier than i thought...
@Fidu
Apologies i think i may have been wrong, you use the control stick in conjunction with the waggle. It still feels really fluid and i'm guessing when i played i just did what i wanted to anyway naturally. It's certainly more dynamic than just pressing A.
Re: Twilight Princess HD Nearly Had Wii Remote Controls
@Manjushri
How did i contradict myself?
@Fidu
Of course it matters, press forward and you stab, press to the left and you do a side slash to the left, so on and so forth.
Re: Twilight Princess HD Nearly Had Wii Remote Controls
@Fidu It totally mattered how you moved it. jeez, either you never played it or have a foggy memory.
Re: Twilight Princess HD Nearly Had Wii Remote Controls
@Detective_TeeJay
Get over yourself. It was a simple addition. All they did was utilize the pointer and map the sword to a button that happened to be a waggle. I'v beaten every official Zelda game besides Spirit Tracks, and i really enjoyed them.
