Paper Mario: Color Splash is easily the biggest hit still coming to Wii U this year, giving us our usual one-per-generation home console entry in the series. It's looking rather promising, too, despite some initial scepticism that followed the game after its initial reveal earlier in the year.
In recent weeks Nintendo has been promoting the game with the rather charming 'Rescue V' series, in which chatty Toad's play out a scene along with a few snippets of gameplay footage. This one features some stealthy Blue Toads (seemingly drawing some inspiration from the likes of Metal Gear) and what's sure to be a fan-favourite power-up for Mario. Check it out below.
It's a neat series, especially for those of us old enough to recognise its retro TV style. Let us know what you think of this latest episode in the comments.

This game does have a release date, doesn't it. Oct 7 or 13 or something like that? Can't find it anywhere though.
"is easily the biggest hit coming to Wii U this year"
Rubbing salt in the SFZ fan's wounds, huh? Oh, and Pokken was pretty good too. So many exclusives, so few price drops.
i luv those cutesy sentai guys.
non sequitur: nintendo direct coming september 1, 1500hrs bst. i have no idea what time zone bst is. sounds delicious tho'.
@rjejr To be fair, I meant games still to come this year, not a dig at others Will update the game page soon with dates.
Date is at the end of the video 7/10/16
Probably end up being my first paper Mario game. Something about this one has really grown on me over time. Looks very different to anything I've played before....
most beautiful game i've ever seen. i'm a sucker for how paper mario looks.
Come on Nintendo, just rename the series to "Paper Toad" already and be done with it.
With that said, I like the fact that this game actually has some personality.
Ludwig confirmed.
Tanooki tail confirmed.
My... the gameplay concept looked more deeper than we thought.
Something about that secret basement...
@Jamotello BST is British Summer Time, so UK. For most of mainland Europe, add an extra hour. I have trouble with the US time zones, no idea of the areas they cover.
The more I see of the game the more I like it, but then again this is from a guy who has never played a paper mario game.
P.S. If noone thought "Metal Geeear" when the ship came out, please leave.
The brand of comedy seems great but the fighting system still feels inferior. I enjoy these vids and then battle starts and my hype deflates
Toads! Toads! Toads!
Quality very funny.
But....but...Thousand Year Door! Sticker Star! Etc etc.....
That video peaked my interest a bit more.
These Toad skits are legit funny.
so sad...
Paper Mario no longer looks like paper mario. Every friendly npc I see in that video is a toad! what happened to the friendly goombas, koopas, bob-ombs, boos, craws, etc.? what happened to the sarcastic partners? Star pieces? the audience? the bosses who, after beating them, turn out to be good guys?
Bring back Paper Mario already!!!!
I'm really looking forward to this game. I paused my Monster Hunter Generations for a bit of Inside, Hyper Light Drifter, little bit of Deus Ex Mankind Divided, a touch of King of Fighters XIV, a little Metroid Prime Federation Force, some God Eater 2 Rage Burst...
But when Color Splash releases, I'm shuttin' down shop entirely until I play through Paper Mario, start to finish.
I might get this, but Azure Striker Gunvolt is going to be a Day 1 purchase, so...
I really liked the music at the beginning, once it goes to Mario. I'll certainly be picking this up on release.
@Sakura thanks. thumbsup.
Hehe "Let one rip" hehe
More like R.I.P. And sort out that spelling of ColoUr. It's really annoying.
I'm pretty excited for Color Splash. I love the humor of the paper mario games.
Also as a Super Sentai fan I'm tickled pink by this trailer.
@NintyFan
Better not to question these things. ^_-
@Nin10doh
I didn't think that. o_o;
I'm leaving now.
Almost left.
-gone-
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I doubt Nintendo of Europe are going to bother with localising the English language from the game's American spellings this time around. It wouldn't be the first time though.
Nice!
@ThomasBW84 "still"
"XL", "still", man you must really hate me.
But since I have your attention, have you given any thought to the NX launch price? (I''m sure you must have, but maybe more casual conversation than deep analysis.)There was a time when I was all on board w/ a $249 home console in March and a $199 handheld in Nov, now I'm more in the hybrid camp, and while that could be cheaper, I'm afraid $299 Wii U and $199 XL is NoA's way of preparing us for a $349 hybrid.
You guys have covered several rumours, but I can't recall 1 on price. How high can a March price be? 3DS didn't fair very well at $249, but that didn't come w/ a TV out dock and detachable controllers either.
@rjejr I've heard nothing solid on price. Personally, I think it needs to be $250 or less, which should be possible IF the GPU etc are powerful enough but primarily economical. It depends on the technology at play, but surely Nintendo has learnt from the launch woes of the 3DS and the Wii U's struggles in terms of price.
So yeah, $250 or less would be a good number in my opinion, Nintendo needs to shoot below 'premium' and more for the 'fun' market.
Holy Squat! I can't wait to play this!!
@ThomasBW84 "but surely Nintendo has learnt from the launch woes of the 3DS and the Wii U's struggles in terms of price.

But, but, but, $249 was the 3DS launch price. What exactly is it they would have learned if they launch at the same $249 price in the same month, March? Don't answer that, it's rhetorical.
Well not so much rhetorical, as I dont 'want to take up any more of your time going over prices for 3 separate form factors - home, handheld, hybrid. $249 does seem to be the sweet spot though for a home console that's portable, if they can spin it that way, rather than simply a portable w/ TV out, b/c then it sounds expensive. Hopefully they are taking all this time to refine that message, as Reggie alluded to.
Some day TW, some day soon. At least tomorrow could be festive, that will make for a nice change.
@rjejr Ach, true, ultimately depends what it's offering. It would be surprising to get as low as $199 at launch in this day and age though. Less expensive the better, anyway, as Nintendo needs to be an affordable option.
The Direct will hopefully be fun, yes!
@Nin10doh but... Not everyone plays metal gear!
