Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Excuses Regarding Cloud Saves Aren't Good Enough

@Yorumi
Well, to me that's just a negative way of tin foil hat thinking, and this has never worked for anyone to be happy and content. It's really not for me. Thing is: I am absolutely certain that Nintendo have discussed this hard and they are aware of the repercussions. This means with absolute certainty that they have their reasons. That's actually enough for me. I doesn't matter if what they're saying are the true reasons or only part of it. It doesn't matter if I believe them or just don't have the imagination and/or background knowledge to imagine the "true" reasons. What matters is that they HAVE their reasons. And they most certainly do. Their choice. Not ours. Our choice is to take it or leave it. If we leave it they may rethink their options, but they don't have to.

Plus: What @Kdaesung said. That's what I mean. He put it so much more elegantly though... (hmmm... hamburgers... )

Actually, if it comes to a business transaction there is normally an offer by a company first and on the other side of things there is a customer who checks out what's on offer and decides if this is what they want and if it's worth the asking price to them. If it isn't they walk away and get something else (or nothing).

Of course there are also companies that offer custom soltions for individuals. There you can really demand exactly what you want and get a custom made product (or service). You may have noticed however that custom solutions are MUCH more expensive. Nintendo is also not a company that specializes in custom solutions for individuals. But neither is any of the other gaming companies. In this regard you really expect too much from them. It's just not their business model.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Excuses Regarding Cloud Saves Aren't Good Enough

@Yasaal
Actually, I disagree. The fact that there are some that are indifferent to the whole topic makes the whole issue subjective. I am not even certain that you could call it a "flaw", because that a certain few games don't save to the cloud is by design (!), i.e. intentional. Nintendo intends it to be that way. A flaw, by definition, cannot be something intentional. Please note: I am not defending that Nintendo for the decision. I understand that for some it may be a slight inconvenience. They cannot understand why Nintendo decided that they don't want those games to have save games in the cloud. They don't believe the reasons they're giving, or think that those reasons don't feel like they're good enough.

I do not know if what Nintendo is saying is the whole truth, only part of it or just a plain lie. To me me it makes enough sense to be indifferent about the whole (non-)issue though.

And objectively, what are the odds of losing your local game saves if you're careful? I've been a passionate gamer for nearly 35 years. I can't say that I have never lost a game save in my life, but I can say with good conscience that regardless of how much time and effort I had put into a game, I never lost anything of real consequence. After all, playing the game is what's fun about our hobby, so even IF you should lose progress in one of the many games you love (and that's a BIG if), it's not such a life-shattering experience that you can't just start over, especially if you really love the game, trust me. I'm not saying that everyone must see it in such a relaxed manner, just offering a different perspective on things, one that let's you sleep better at night.

And if you still don't believe me that it's really only subjectively an issue, feel free to just believe yourself: You wrote "I wanna back up all my saves you know"... I understand and respect that. But you have the subjectivity right there in your own words...

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Excuses Regarding Cloud Saves Aren't Good Enough

JunkRabbit

@Yasaal
There's really nothing objective about this article. It's all a very subjective point of view and an individual opinion (which is absolutely fine). You may agree with it if it meets your own individual point of view, but that doesn't nake it objective. It just means that there's more than one person in the world that share this subjective opinion.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Excuses Regarding Cloud Saves Aren't Good Enough

@saintayu
What I'm saying is that they don't even have any footage yet, it's so early in production. I don't believe that they're actually decided on the issue yet. More likely someone forgot to check a box somewhere in the press statement, so Cloud Saves are just not confirmed at this time. I doubt that the press statement read: "We don't even have a release date yet and nothing else to show, so far we just PLAN to bring it to the console, but guess what, just out of spite we've already decided that we won't allow cloud saves with this single player game, even though it really doesn't make sense! Ha, take THAT, Nintendo Fans! We start to support Switch big-time, but still find a way to annoy you! Muahuahaa!"

And because it really doesn't make any sense to me that these games would forego cloud saves, I am still convinced that they'll have them, in spite of these early assumptions. I think the absence of a confirmation that it will be supported is really not the same as a confirmation that it will NOT be supported. But time will tell, I suppose.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Excuses Regarding Cloud Saves Aren't Good Enough

JunkRabbit

@saintayu
I wouldn't take that at face value. The release of these games is so far away, that it's probably just still uncertain. I at least took this with a raised eyebrow (because I'm interested in those games), but also with a good serving of salt. Better to wait until they're released, and complain (or worry) if cloud saving REALLY isn't supported for a fact (or better yet: don't complain at all, because a very wise man once said: "Change what you can't accept, and accept what you can't change." - It's better for your health, too! ). Until then I regard this as a rumor at best.

It was speculated that this was meant to serve as a kind of digital "Omamori", a Japanese talisman for good luck. If this is true then it doesn't surprise me that it's gone now, because before a year is through Omamori are supposed to be returned to the temple or shrine where you got them from... I had been wondering about this and how such a digital "Omamori" could be "returned" after a year... (Omamori aren't supposed to be opened either, lest they loose effectiveness, btw).

Oh my, I wasn't aware that Yasunori Mitsuda made his return to the Xeno Series with this! Good stuff! His Xenogears Soundtrack is one of my favorite soundtracks from the PS1 Era, especially the arranged Album "Creid" (and the Chrono Cross Soundtrack also was an absolute dream, especially considering how good it sounded, despite being soundchip-based and not CD-based). Love it already.

My general rule for picking up stuff: must be worth at least 10 times its weight. Potions and jewelry are a no brainer, so are arrows (as they weigh nothing). Weapons and armor follow the above weight rule. That way you carry around only what's really worth picking up, and you need to sell only every few missions/dungeons.

I know what you mean (not to forget that many here aren't native speakers), but I genuinely thought his comment was a charming and witty compliment to the game. But because I do understand how such misunderstandings can happen, I would have set it straight myself, if others and he himself wouldn't already have had. So I think we're all good now...

Re: Guide: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Top Tips And Tricks

JunkRabbit

@mikegamer
Why not just allow @Proust to clear up a misunderstanding? It's not HIS fault you know. I thought the opening comment was a very nice compliment to the game the second I read it, and I was surprised how anyone could understand it differently. It's absolutely okay for him to set this straight. I don't think an apology is required by the others, but acknowledgment is of course fine. Otherwise: Peace, bro.

EDIT: What made it absolutely clear to me that it's not criticism of the game, but self-criticism (at most), is that he wrote "...that I could have played it..." and not "that YOU could have played it...". The latter would certainly have been sarcasm. The former is not.

Re: Guide: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Top Tips And Tricks

JunkRabbit

@Proust
Just tom affirm that I too intuitively understood your opening comment to be a very positive one, more of an "why onn earth did I miss this?" than anything else. Now, had it come from certain other community members, it may have been a different story, so maybe it is all about expectations...

flOw, Flower and Journey are in fact almost the only games I still play on the PS3 every once in a while (every other year or so, lol, especially Flower, which is one of my favorite relaxing games), otherwise it's my one and only trusty Blu-ray player... (it still excells in this function).

Yes it was, but was taken down again after a few minutes. Some NDA issue would be my guess?

I had been wondering what the tunic would look like on a female charakter, and I thought it would be grand if it were the BotW Zelda clothes instead... but the latter is certainly only wishful thinking.

Re: Ubisoft Thinks The Next Console Cycle Isn't Far Away, So Where Does That Leave Switch?

"Do you think Nintendo will copy Sony and Microsoft's approach and release a slightly more powerful Switch in a few years?"

I always thought that Nintendo invented the "iteration" game with their handhelds even in the good old GameBoy days... (GameBoy Color, Advance, Advance SP, DS Lite, DSi, 3DS XL, New Nintendo 3DS, the list is endless... )

I think it is an absolute given that there will be new, more powerful Switch hardware iterations come the time. If they play it right it should be fully compatible to earlier games and support the form factor completely, so you may only have to upgrade the base unit (wishful think part of the assessment).

@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Yeeah... riiight... For someone who is always on about "proof" if he's called out on earlier statements, which basically means that you will only accept what's written black on white as opposed to how it can be interpreted by reading between the lines, you're awfully keen on stating that what you wrote is not what you meant. There's a huge contradiction here. You can't have it both ways you know. Just saying.

Re: Nintendo Is Ramping Up Switch Production To 25 To 30 Million Units A Year

JunkRabbit

@SLIGEACH_EIRE
You're way too predictable, mate... That's tactically never a good thing. Your own words really do speak for themselves. Trying to water them down (or editing your posts retroactively if somebody calls you out) doesn't always work...

Yeah sure, it's all subjective, all our individual perceptions of "reality". From my point of view for example the Wii U wasn't a failure at all. It is a console I have played countless great titles on and found great enjoyment in for several years (and there's still a backlog to bring me joy in the future, when I hopefully get around to all the games I haven't finished yet). I cannot consider that a failure. But it's not about that, is it?

As always you have postulated your opinion (or perception of reality, no matter how distorted it may be) as a matter of fact (then and now), so as to make the impression that your knowledge, perspective and opinion rule all. This is why there is so much opposition. You basically ask for it. But that's on purpose, isn't it? You feel irrelevant and/or nobody will talk to you otherwise? If so, please be assured: You are still a valuable human being (to someone, I am sure), and some of your more moderate input is very welcome.

Re: Investment Banking Firm Predicts Switch Will Sell 115.8 Million Units By 2023

Don't forget iterations. Upgraded hardware like "New Nintendo Switch" (lol). I am sure it's already in development, and all will count toward the goal. Meaning that not only will there be several Switches per household (like Nintendo wants to place it), but probably more than one sold unit to the average fan (I know I will be upgrading for sure, I and I'm certainly not the only one...).

@Tyranexx
That's one reason I never understood the "not enough games on launch, I'll wait until there are more games" naysayers. Not only wasn't it really true (within two weeks I had already more games to play on the Switch than I had time for), but I think the past few months were time well spent on the many big and small highlights on Switch I have played, and now I can concentrate on Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario + Rabbids and the upcoming XC 2 and don't start with a huge backlog (my pile of shame on Steam, the 3DS and the Wii U is still high enough... )

Re: Don't Hold Your Breath For Monster Hunter: World On Switch

JunkRabbit

@Markgo
Actually they most likely need to translate only half of it, since the other half is already translated with Generations... This makes it all the more puzzling to me why they're so hesitant to do it (and why I'm almost certain that at some point in the future XX (or "Generations Ultimate" if you will) might still come to the West; though this convitction might also just be triggered merely by wishful thinking). I usually understand that companies like Capcom are all about business and profit of course, but I cannot really see a risk here. The financial effort to reach such a large additional audience with XX should be minimal compared to the potential gain... They will certainly have their reasons, but I really don't get it for once.

That said, I won't be missing World on Switch and can play it elsewhere if I want, but I certainly do miss XX. (I know I could get the Japanese version, but for now it's too much hassle and I'm still hoping quietly for a localized version).

The phsyical controls were in fact shown in the video above (15:22min, left side), but this is for the Japanese "Package" release on 25.01.2018 (which is probably the retail). They COULD be included in the 1.3 update (didn't catch that where the two songs for the update were showcased), if they have them ready enough to showcase them here, or there will be another update in January then... Either way it's not too far off I guess.

Re: Video: 11 Reviews for Super Mario Odyssey that Are So Bad They're Good

If somone was to "rate" such "reviewers" we'd get something like this (and apparently we don't need to get to know them first...):

Intellect: 4/10
Imagination: 2/10
Soul: 1/10
Looks: 3/10
(Intellectual) Age: 10/100
Combined score (logically): 0/10

Verdict: "I haven't met the guy, but I hear he has a lot of friends who say he's really nice and smart and good looking and good at sports and arts alike, and while that may be true at least to some extend (if I'm honest), and he might really be a charming guy, he really doesn't deserve all this praise and attention, so I'm counter-balancing this by telling everyone I meet that he's ugly and dumb instead..."

Seriously though, these "reviews" tell much more about their authors than about the game.

Re: Nintendo Plans 'More Ways to Have Fun' on Switch and Anticipates Momentum Into 2018

JunkRabbit

@SLIGEACH_EIRE
"We're supposed to progress with each generation, not regress". I agree. But you're forgetting that it's a matter of opinion or perspective (I like this word better in this context) in this case what is progress and what is not. I'm with @cfgk24 on this one.

I really like the Switch's utter focus on being first and foremost a streamlined gaming device. I never used the browsers on PlayStation or Xbox (navigation and handling too clunky) and only VERY rarely used the Wii U browser or the one on 3DS.

I know that you claim to be using the Wii U browser all the time, but I got a PC and notebook for that which allow me to browse the web with that much more comfort. To me, having this on a dedicated gaming device is just dead weight, taking up space and resoureces better used for a streamlined gaming experience. You know, like the Switch OS being really fast and all that. Not saying that it can't be improved, but including a browser to me is not such an improvement and really a waste of resources from my point of view.

Like I said, a matter of perspective. I find it to be progress to get rid of the dead weight that was the Wii U browser (or other console browsers). I'll never understand why in a day and age where everyone has smartphones for that kind of thing the Switch must have a browser as well. That said, if Nintendo decides that it's important enough (to enough people) to include it, I will not curse them for it either, heck, I might even use it once in a while, but it's really a "prefer the Switch without it" kind of thing to me (the same for other apps like Netflix or the like: sufficient other options).
