MUJO hits the Switch eShop this week and, in terms of presentation at least, looks pretty appealing. It's got a cool mythology theme going on and the puzzle-based gameplay is twinned with some neat, RPG-lite elements.
The big problem - as you can see from NintenDaan's video above - is that it's basically been ported from smartphones with little (if any) optimisation for Switch. The game is presented in a portrait fashion, just like it would be on a phone's screen, leaving massive borders down the left and right sides.
Perhaps more egregious is the fact that the game includes premium currency which has to be purchased with real money, yet it costs $9.99. The mobile version has these in-app purchases too, but is free to download.
Oh dear.

This may rival two of EA's titles for being microtransaction-filled messes
Shovelware much ?
My interest was actually piqued when I heard about this game, seemed like the kind of game perfect for quick burst or two. However, when I heard that the microtransactions were still in place in addition to the $10 pricetag, all interest was lost.
Really? They haven't even tried have they?
Can't wait to see what they'll bring to the eShop on April 1st.
I mean... what did you expect? lol
Hopefully titles like this will be few and far between. The Switch being an indie beast is great but Nintendo needs a somewhat strict approval process or else it will turn into a cluttered mess Steam or the Wii in its latter years.
Nope.
I hope it bombs.
I'm surprised Nintendo allows garbage like this to clutter the eShop. Better quality control is called for.
What is this word "micro-train-action"? Hearing that word has me feeling the need to run up to the game developers who made a free-to-play game onto a console and charge up front money for it with the words "micro-train-action" and vomit in their floor.
Lol what were the devs thinking?
"pfft let's sell this port without even changing a thing but let's charge for it and see which poor saps pay 10 bucks for it"
-_-
trying to earn a quick buck with no effort I see.
At the very least, this should be Free to Pay if you're having microtransactions still. Don't be an EA.
Can it at least be played in portrait mode on the Switch? The game actually looks good, it's the price and the presentation that suck.
Looks like they did hit the 'export' button on GameMaker or something like that, choose 'Switch' on the next screen and pressed enter...
@MagnaRoader I imagine that's exactly what they are thinking
@Captain_Toad Makes me want to go up to the same people and punch them.
Please. Don't buy this.
Pretty please
Lazy lazy lazy!!! You have to really try your best to be this f**kng lazy.
@Fake-E-Lee
"Move along, these are not the titles we're looking for..."
Nintendo, please be a little more policing with the in-app sales models. I don't want to accidentally discover that kind of stuff in a game I'd bought in good faith.
Shameless... MUJO you get no love from me
The laziness is real with this game.
It won’t be long until Indie devs change their tune once the E-shop becomes cluttered with crap like Steam, so great indie titles get buried. I hope I’m wrong, but games like this makes it seem like it’s going that way.
This game is a lesson on how to rip people off and charge them for the privilege.
@1UP_MARIO Too late.
The doors to shovelware are open.
Switch shall henceforth be known as Wii 2!
Nothing wrong having F2P on any console, but having them to be paid and still have paid in app purchases? Get out.
Hahah NOPE! Lazy port makes me lazy with my wallet. Meaning they shall get no money from me. Try again Mujo!
Nintendo needs to make sure c**p like this doesn't clog up the eshop
@Anti-Matter it is a shame Nintendo is letting this crap clutter the catalog. I would imagine they screen the apps, but apparently Nintendo feels they need quantity more than quality...
It's a huge pass for me thanks
We should:
A. Not buy this
B. Let Nintendo know that we don't appreciate this crap on the eShop.
After a very strong start, I think the eShop's standards have slipped.
...lol...this is just....yeah....lol. xD
Disgraceful! Poor unware moms out there.
To be honest, I hope this flops badly. We don’t want to give publishers room for this sort of stuff.
Unlike PS4/XB1, not hating, but they are too common there, lets keep Nintendo pure.
Why haven’t any developers made an F2P game on Switch yet?
how does this sh*t even make it onto the store? please dont let your eshop turn into steam, nintendo!
@Moon oh it will
@1UP_MARIO
Of course.
I will not buy that crappy game.
It might be harsh but this game deserves to flop hard, very hard.
@gamerguy2356 just play it on your phone. Doesn't look too bad. They are just worse than kemco, who doubles their prices for Nintendo games
I download this on my phone and its quite addictive. Shame there charging this much for it on switch :/
Is me but a alot games out right now are way to expensive for amount content on offer?
Why the hoopla over the in-app purchases? Lady Layton is also full price on 3DS AND has still paid dlc. Oh dear...
I wonder how much longer we'll have to wait before TVs, monitors, movie screens, etc. are all in the portrait format because people are too dumb and/or lazy to rotate their portable devices a WHOLE 90 degrees. To be fair, though, it is a really difficult thing to do. I tried it once and my arms will probably never stop aching.
Where are you, Nintendo Seal of Quality?
@Henmii It depends on how it's used. If it's for paying for bonus content (characters, screen packs, hats, side story missions that isn't important to the main story), then yeah it's justified. But if it's for the main story progression (unlocking stages to progress through the main story, currency/gear that is on purpose on short supply just so you lose on multiplayer on those people who payed for the gear or unfair difficulty with the main game), or having the content shortchanged just so paid DLC can exist, then no it's not justified.
If you've been on on the watch how EA and mobile gaming works with it's micro-tra..mic... that word. You can see that it can become a big problem.
@MrVariant that's the thing, I don't often play games on my phone as I use it to manage a few things. Most of my gaming time is spent on my Switch and this game had my interest, so to learn of this....is really disappointing.
@Captain_Toad,
Agreed! And the whole loot-box thing happening at Sony and Microsoft at the moment: Terrible.
But back on Nintendo: I did raise my brows when I saw the paid dlc in Layton's mystery journey. I mean: I paid 40 Euro for a 17 Euro ios download (I know that's insane). And for that price they couldn't even make the dlc free? Boo Level 5 games! Boo!
