@Anti-Matter
We've been through that before: Let people draw their own lines of what level of (virtual) violence is acceptable entertainment to them and don't disrespect or patronize them for it. To some people punching a person on the nose is just as unacceptable as using other sorts of weapons, so what makes you the better person?
Keep in mind that you don't want to be disrespected for your choice of games either (though you're basically asking for it with this sort of post...). It's okay that some sorts of games are not for you, but no one is hurtuing you by liking other kinds of games, are they?
Oh, and I'd say give SLIGEACH_EIRE a break. You may not have noticed, but his tone is much more moderate in regard to Switch in recent times, at least that's my observation (and me like!). Credit where credit is due. I find not much wrong with his opening comment today. No need to scratch old wounds.
@countzero Well, I used to play the piano, so I'm inclined (and used) to using more than one finger of each hand anyway... But when playing one-handed the parts where two notes slide apart or closer together are the tricky ones to coordinate... That's when I usually mess up the chain.
@CTMike This is exclusively played on the touch screen anyway, no buttons involved. And in harder difficulties you will need to coordinate both hands with four fingers each and must have crazy reflexes (or know the song and stage REALLY well) to pull it off at all... it's still fun though, don't get me wrong.
@Zimon Yes, it's crazy difficult, sometimes even on medium difficulty already. And I'm not doing myself a favor by playing the songs with my right hand only. Because I only ever play it on the train I need the left hand to hold the console. It feels awkward placing the Switch on my lap, and on the train it doesn't feel a secure placing either... So one-handed it is. Outside the hardest difficulty I still mostly manage a B-ranking, but only very few perfect combos... Oh well. It's still a rather enjoyable game with tons of content.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm not playing BotW as much these days (despite the DLC), simply because there's too much else I'd like to play atm, but when I did, I could enjoy very long sessions (whole days), but also the few minutes while commuting. I would then just go from A to B while gathering resources for example, or just explore, or tackle a shrine, which can be done in a few minutes (depending on the shrine of course). It worked really well, and like the article above says stopping and resuming never felt likle that, because it's so seamless, even starting a longer quest and continuing it later never felt interrupted to me, probably because of what Babich says above: You're still in the flow, you don't play anything else in the meantime, and returning from sleep mode is so fast, so it's like your mind stays with the game all the time, despite the pauses. I am one hundred percent with the statements above. It really, really works great that way... That's the magic of the Switch as I experience it, too.
Looking forward to the PC version (will certainly look awesome in 4k Ultra on a 55" 4k TV), but also like the art style of the Pocket Edition. Will probably get both, not necessarily day one though. Will most likely wait another year or so for a Steam sale for the PC version, and for the Pocket Edition it depends on reviews and other details when I might pick this up. Thenm, when I do get the PC version, it will feel like a major upgrade, making replaying it worthwhile...
Ha, I can mix and match, too, depending on mood... Cause I just got em all (apart from the grey ones though)! Not interested in the color straps though.
Currently going with blue on the left and pink on the right, but I switch (pun not intended) frequently.
@TJM Sorry if I misunderstood your meaning. Thanks for clarifying.
Still, one can hear a lot out there what I tried to put into perspective with my post, I think we can agree on that, even if you did not mean it that way.
Finally, I wasn't dead serious about this, I hope you can see that. Just offering a bit of context we disgruntled gamers (we'll always find a reason to be miffed if we want to) often gladly overlook if it helps our complaining about what we don't get, which to some is apparently more fun than just playing and enjoying the games we do get instead. Strange world indeed...
@dkxcalibur @TJM and any other "holding gamers for ransom" conspiracy theorists:
Keep in mind that of the install base only a small minority will ever read or hear about such interviews. I don't think it can be much more than 10% to be honest, though I'm just using logic, common sense, and some basic knowledge about print media runs and reader numbers here. NL staffers could probably say how many regular readers they have have. Even if the numbers were a little higher, I doubt that it would make sense to coerce the gamers that do read it to buy the game this way. So I'm inclined to think that they're just stating a simple, obvious truth of business... and we gamers just take it the wrong way (just as we always do, if it pleases us).
So as long as they don't put it in the slogan of their FIFA campaign, and print it on the cover of the game and all the posters as part of all their general advertising ("FIFA 18!" - Buy it on Switch, or else!" - with Ronaldo holding a gun, smoking a cigar with a grim face; wouldn't THAT be awesome...), so everybody even remotely interested in the game can see it, I'm not buying all this "they're trying to force us to buy a mediocre product" nonsense.
That said, I won't be buying FIFA either, just because I'm not into sports games in general, not even football/soccer. Well, apparently now you know who to blame if EA cancels further Switch support...
@bolt05
Yes, I know "opinion" and so on. I'll try to explain why your first comment felt so disrespective that I am certain not only @PanurgeJr must have crinched at the comment, and why he took it upon himself to set it straight.
First of all: I personally consider myself a very serious gamer. I love games, I have a PC and most consoles, and I play all sorts of games across all genres, I am a completionist, too. AND I think what the eShop is offering is a very good selection even at this point already.
And I am not alone. In fact, it is unlikely that anyone visiting this website regularly and bothering to set up an account is anything less than a serious gamer, most would certainly consider themselves that. There may be a few "Casuals" here, but I doubt they're the majority. If you now take a look at the poll above you'll see that at least 63% really like the eShop and its selection, even more are optimistic for its future. Only 23% think that it's disappointing or worse.
What does that mean in regard to your and @PanurgeJr 's argument? In regard to your argument it would follow that in fact YOU are not a serious gamer, because assuming that people who care for games enough to visit a gaming website regularly and even opening an account to take part in the discussion must surely be serious about their hobby, and looking at the fact that the vast majority are pleased with the current eShop content, your opinion (about the "seriousness") has already been proven wrong.
Or you do not consider yourself a serious gamer, but I don't think that was supposed to be your point, and that's where @PanurgeJr 's argument comes in and is proven correct 100%:
We all consider ourselves serious gamers here. Some of us may like what they see on the eShop, some of us may not, but that doesn't make us less serious about our hobby, and more or less also take pride in it (and that's an important point here!).
I admit, as someone who considers himself a serious gamer AND liking the eShop selection, I also had a slight problem with your first comment, just because you phrased it like it was a matter of fact, and made it sound like what I liked is garbage. That way you disrespected not only my own opinion (before I even voiced it), but also my pride as a serious gamer.
I don't think I'm alone with this feeling, but I also didn't take too much offence (I basically just shrugged at the comment and ignored it as irrelevant). Following your discussion with @PanurgeJr however I felt that I might make an effort to set things straight for the other 63% of serious gamers here on this site, we're the majority after all.
Sorry for the wall of text. Everybody get on with their lives, please. Happy Gaming!
Oh yeah, Gangnam Style! Yee-haw!! ... but I wouldn't want anybody see me do that without context. Then again, the game doesn't interest me really, so the risk is fairly low... (Though picturing half a dozen Japanese businessmen doing this in the Subway on their way home IS an amusing thought...)
@SLIGEACH_EIRE My point is: what may seem like a cash grab to you because you already know, own and have played a game to exhaustion might be a welcome addition to the library to someone else, maybe because they've always wanted to get a certain game, but couldn't decide earlier, or they just didn't have any of the systems the game was on, or just because they just love the game to bits (or bytes...) and feel the urge to dive in again, even if only for the promise of higher resolution. It would not be for YOU to decide if it's good or bad for them or too expensive, or if the game should exist on the platform in question or not. To those people it might well be a Revelation (pun intended) still, and worth even full price. It is subjective. You may not agree for individual titles, but that's subjective, too, and would you deny them their fun and enjoyment, just because YOU don't feel the same way? (this is actually how many of your past posts come across and what makes them feel so poisonous and irritates people here so much: they feel like only because you don't like something, nobody else should be allowed to enjoy it either... oftentimes I actually thought: Why in the world does he WANT SO MUCH that the Switch fails? If he's not interested, fine... but almost willing it to be unsuccessful with all the negativity, so others cannot enjoy it either, just felt wrong).
As for the Resident Evil Revelations example: Did you read my post completely (especially the third paragraph)? Because I'm actually using the very same example with the same details and a similar argument, but I do come to a very different conclusion... If that doesn't prove my point that it's up to a subjective, individual decision and not to be stated matter-of-factly, then I don't know what else to say...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Thanks for the clarification. I'm not totally convinced that at the time (or later, when so many comments about this issue felt so poisonous, to me, too btw...) you really did make this distinction, but I'd like to give you the benefit of the doubt. It's hard to prove either way, so I guess everyone must make their own minds up about this.
Do we agree that ANY additional game is good for the system though? If some ports are overpriced or not is a completely different issue to my mind, especially because it's a very subjective one. If something is worth the asking price is different for everyone, and ultimately it's for each of us to decide if we'll buy it immediately or later (during a sale for example). Or not at all.
Take me and this game for instance. I have owned the 3DS version of the first part for years (got it day one), and just three days ago was tempted by the Wii U sale and thought it might be fun to play it on the big screen, too. I would still love to have both parts on the Switch though, but will now probably not play it on the Wii U anymore after all. So I'll have to ask myself if having them both on one system will be worth th 40 EUR plus 8. And part two is basically the only part I haven't played yet, I will probably not bother with part one too much on Switch, but I still feel the urge to have both of them together on the system. I guess I'm not alone in this, collectors that we are... I haven't made up my mind yet, I guess my purse will decide if it's overpriced to me when the time comes. Since you apparently feel that these ports are not overpriced to begin with, it's of course a very individual point of view I'm offering, but I dare say that it's the same for ANY release and ANY individual. We shouldn't sate this so matter-of-factly by using the term "overpriced". Though at times many people might agree that TO THEM the potential fun might not be worth the asking price. "Rime" is a good example here. I was really looking forward to that, but considering how short it is, I will pass at the current asking price...
EDIT: PS: Your posts today feel much more moderate (mostly). Thanks. It makes them far easier to swallow and even relate to. I hope people will be able to appreciate that, too. Keep up your passion for Nintendo!
@Malanta @CarefulNow To be fair, he tries (sometimes), but given his history, it is mainly overlooked. Isn't it always like that...
As for the "Ports are boring/lazy" comments, insinuating that nobody wants them (though it's probably only him who currently thinks that he thinks that this is so) and it is a presumably a bad thing (because he can't imagine or accept that other people may crave for those games on a new and versatile platform, even though it is of course more than obvious...), I cannot take these comments from him seriously anymore, not since I found the following post from him a while back:
SLIGEACH_EIRE, Wed 30th Nov 2016
"It's about time they think about what third parties want and not just themselves. Hopefully, it reflects in better ports, more of them and better sales."
He was actually asking for more ports on the Switch at one time...! So while I don't ignore him completely (there's no reason to, and he does raise interesting questions every once in a while), I'll just ignore this sort of comment as the humbug it is, shake my head, smile indulgently... and move on.
Oh Booooh! Just two days after I decided to get part one on sale for the Wii U... :/ Now I'm never gonna play it there after all and wait for the Switch version... Oh well, in my mind I will just have to add this to the Switch price and consider if it's still worth it to me. Knowing me that will probably result in a "Heck, yeah!"
I have confidence in THQ Nordic. They have shown more support and more commitment to the Wii U than many others, and their pricing seems moderate and fair to me in general, especially for what you get. BTW: On Amazon Germany the physical Switch version is only 2,71 EUR more than the PS4 and Xbox equivalent. Can't complain about that...
@AlexSora89 Oh, Thanks! Love it. Cool stuff. Very professional puppeteering, too! Will be checking out more Arlo for sure.
On a side note: Interestingly I had made my own restaurant anology before, but more in the lines of "if there are already two Italian restaurants in your street you do not open a third one to win over customers, you offer something DIFFERENT if you want to be successful...!". (Every chef/restaurant owner worth his salt will tell you that). Well, you know what sort of complaint this analogy aims at.
It was on the the eShop already earlier this morning, and I immediately purchased it, but it didn't finish downloading before I had to catch the train... Will have to wait until after work. It's 3.1GB btw, with my connection this was just too much to finish during breakfast.
EDIT: at only € 12.00 it was really a no-brainer for me, considering the production values and good reviews for other systems...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Like I said, some of your crtiticism might indeed hold some validity still (while other points might not). And - as you point out - it's an opinion of course. JaxonH's and my point in this case (though we did go about communicating it differently), and the point of many others on this site is a different one however, and this not one of content, but one of tone, which - as I am sure you must be aware of by now - is a tad bit irritating to many people here, as it often not only voices your own opinion, but comes across needlessly harsh AND as attempting to state a fact, which in his combination can really implicitly disrespect others' opinions, intentional or not.
So yes, you might indeed be missing something (all this while), because examples are usually not the topic or point of a conversation but a tool to support a topic and bring a point across.
I guess what I've been trying to say is that your opinion is indeed your own, and you may or may not turn out to be right (concerning the example given), I am not disputing that, nor am I saying that you cannot criticize. But we all would benefit if you'd tried to do so in a manner that does not disrespect others' opinion at the same time, because that's how we feel oftentimes. I'm not even thinking that you do this on purpose, and I even believe that most people don't even realize that the discomfort they feel reading many of your comments comes from a feeling of disrespect. I didn't even realize this really myself before now, but the word just fell into place and clicked when I was writing my earlier post, and it immedeiately felt so right that I believe I might be onto something with this. And IF this is true there is really something you could do about it. If you want. Might it not be worth a try?
I'll gladly reiterate that I think many here are in fact interested in your opinion (you do contribute a lot to this community and that earns my respect), but would be much more inclined to accept it if it wasn't presented so much with sledgehammer semantics that leave little room for other opinions and suffocates them. Do you understand what I'm saying?
To be fair, I for one remember clearly how Sligo discredited the Switch prior to release even. On more than one occasion in fact, and it did not take long to find one (interestingly the one I remembered so vividly, because it was so clear in its conviction):
SLIGEACH_EIRE, Sun 15th Jan 2017
"I'm talking about the price, hardware specs, poor storage, poor battery life, expensive accessories, paltry launch day lineup, lack of third party games, terrible online arrangement. Charging full price for 1, 2 Switch when it should be a pack in.
Mark my words, frame this. Switch will fail. I called it with the Wii U before it launched and unfortunately I was right. I bought the Wii U day 1 and own nearly everything there is to own. Bought all the major games on launch day too. There is so much wrong with this. Nintendo haven't learned."
Now, some of this criticism right after the full reveal still holds some validity, but please remember people that we're arguing about the tone in which this doubt is presented (and this is quite poisonous and unnecessarily agressive and controversial really), and of course that now you deny ever saying that the system will fail (hard). But when you write "Mark my words. Frame it. Switch will fail.", this really does not come across as "Well, maybe it will do better than Wii U, but can this be considered a success?". Not by a long shot. And it's this general tone which is so irritating to many here. Don't you see any chance that you might consider maybe to voice your opinion more moderately, and not present it so much as fact? Believe it or not, I really think that many are in fact interested in your opinion, because it is clear that you're very passionate about all things Nintendo, but it would help us all, if you could maybe try a little more to actually phrase your opinions clearly as such, like Jaxon has also aleady suggested. A "Meh, that's just not for me" is really something else than "this is crap and shouldn't even exist"... The difference is that with one you not only voice your own opinion, but also don't disrespect people who have a different opinion at the same time... Can you guess which one that is?
BTW: While looking the quote up I came across this, which I'll just quote without comment for all of us to smile at...
SLIGEACH_EIRE, Wed 30th Nov 2016
"It's about time they think about what third parties want and not just themselves. Hopefully, it reflects in better ports, more of them and better sales."
@PanurgeJr Yeah, I had read that, too, and I thought about it. The problem will still be how to go about it then: Is he aware of it? Does he himself consider it a handicap (assuming it is so)? Would he appreciate being treated differently if he was (many would probably not)? (or does he care either way; and if he says he doesn't, would it be the truth?). I think only the persons really close to him could answer that, and having only bits and pixels and a certain form of verbal expression to go on, we're almost guaranteed to get it wrong.
The way it is we can only rarely take him seriously, I'm afraid (because nothing's ever as black and white - or rather black and grey - as he paints it), but what good is all the attention he's getting then?
One thing's for certain though: He IS very passionate about all this, and about Nintendo in general. And that is basically a good thing, even if at times a bit misdirected.
@JaxonH Yeah, I see what you mean. You're probably right. sigh...
I just realized I made an honest mistake in my post when I wrote: "...for his and his friend's sake". I certainly do hope that he has more than one... but since we do not know how likely that is, I'll just leave it unedited for now I think...
@Anti-Matter What he said. Exactly my thoughts. Couldn't have put it better (probably only worse in fact, less to the point; sorry to everyone having suffered from that lately...). Thanks @aaronsullivan !
@TJM Kudos. Very sensible posts, all of them, taken the words right out of my mouth (though I couldn't have phrased it so to the point; I tend to be too verbose and more chaotic in structure and thought for my own good at times). +2 (one for each) ...I'll be watching you... (in Batman Voice)
@JaxonH ...and he also always complains that it seems like Nintendo isn't showing much of an effort in Ireland, while the reason might just be this: I mean, if they're all like that, why bother? Nintendo may just have read enough of his posts to be as sick of his constant complaining and whining as most of us here are, and decided that if this sort of behaviour is exemplary for the genral Irish population they apparently have only hate and/or bitterness for Nintendo and thus don't deserve any better... I say, love Nintendo, and they will love you back. (True love is unconditional by the way...)
Jokes aside: He does have his better moments to be fair, and sometimes you can see that he's really trying to be less negative, though it doesn't always work out unfortunately. I seriously wonder what sort of person he might be in RL. He often comes across as so generally miserable, it would make me sad if that sort of glass-half-empty attitude governs his whole life. I certainly don't hope so, for his and his friend's sake. And no, I'm not being sarcastic here. This is genuine concern for somone I don't really know, believe it or not. A sort of empathy if you will.
@Hikingguy Wonderful story. I can just picture it. Thanks for sharing. Goes to show that not everybody looks at games (in general or specific ones) the same way. And of course that Super Duper Graphics are not all that matter after all, no matter what others say! And right she is!
@Anti-Matter Portal Knights looks better to me, too, but unfortunately the reviews are not so favorable... There seems to be very little to do. Basic gameplay is apparently okay, but it doesn't have the stamina. I had been looking forward to that, too, now I'm gonna wait for updates (IF they come and flesh out the game). (or go for Minecraft after all).
@NEStalgia @aaronsullivan
Wait, I am uncertain: Did either one of you with your posts mean to hint on the possibility that the "X" is also a 10? That's actually what I wanted to add... and now I am unsure if you already have.
Background: A German gaming website speculated shortly before the E3 reveal what Project Scorpio would ultimately be called. They wondered about Xbox 10, because of MS's plans to move Xbox and Win10 games closer together (the "Play Anywhere" initiative; though we all know who offers the TRUE Play Anywhere experience...). It made sense to me. Funnily enough after the presentation the same guys didn't even realize that they may have been right on target, because they discussed the "X" branding without ever picking up the inherent "10" again... Didn't they realize this? I thought it strange. They may in fact have been right with their guess. More or less. It might indeed be part of it (the best names have multiple meanings like that).
@electrolite77 You must misunderstand me, because...
"nobody is infallible and therefore they are open to criticism. Businesses fail all the time, business people make mistakes all the time. Same as politicians, journalists, sports people, whoever"
...is once again exactly my point. But we're talking about a claim that Nintendo is currently keeping stock low artificially and intentionally, and I just can't see that. It doesn't make sense in the current situation at all. this has not been criticism, it's speculation, presented as fact. The statement was not "Nintendo has once again underestimated demand" (this would have been a critical statement based on circumstancial evidence), but basically "Nintendo is lying to us and screwing us over, the ignorant fools, if they wanted they could satisfy demand immediately...", which is not a critical statement at all, but an accusation not based on fact or evidence, not even circumstancial). That's what rubbed me wrong in the first place. Fake news start that way.
And if I may quote myself from the same post:
"...I am not saying that they are above criticism either. I am saying that we do not have enough proof to claim that they're keeping stock artificially low. Let the criticism start after you actually know what you're criticizing is indeed true"
I think we're actually on the same page and just don't realize it.
Anyway, I think the original poster and I may at the very least have come to agree that it would be utterly stupid of Nintendo to do this, though we do disagree on the finer point if they really are or not. There is no reason to defend him anymore I believe.
@PlywoodStick Sure, I'm aware of both these facts, and you won't hear me crying out "hypocrite murderer!" to him... I chose the example to bring a point across, which does hold validity either way. Though morality and spirituality does not require flying fists, I do understand your point. In fact, I chose the tone I did for a reason... . I have been trying NOT to judge in my post. If I failed, sorry.
@bluedogrulez (yeah, it was supposed to be a joke, imagining someone playing awkwardly one hand at the top, one hand at the bottom... and to hint on this unbelievably insane Ikaruka VID; of course it would be possible even in Tate mode when in tabletop on a stand, with a Joy-Con for each hand)...
@Anti-Matter Well, actually I did not feel too confused myself, but it appeared to me that there was some level of confusion within yourself in regard to your values and how you live and show them.
While you draw the line what's tolerable and what's not tolerable at a specific level of violence, others might draw the line elsewhere, and this is something you should accept and embrace, not judge.
Some may actually draw the line not with levels of violence, but if it's real or not. Imagine someone who says "yes, I have no problem with GTA or CoD as it's fantasy, but even thinking about holding a real gun gives me shudders; I wouldn't dream of touching it, and I wouldn't want to inflict real pain or an injury to somebody else no matter how small, even for sport." I'd argue that this is also a perfectly nice and healthy way to live your life and this person may actually be quite charming and fun to be around...
So, since you're apparently not all about cuddly and cute after all and like some decent butt-kicking once in a while (as long as it's within YOUR tolerance levels), why not let others decide for themselves which path they take in regard to this issue and set their own tolerance levels and draw their own lines. They're probably not worse people for that...
@Phin68
Now we're getting somewhere!
Yes, Nintendo have encountered stock shortages many times before, but I say it's because they're cautious (and to a degree rightly so), and in each case probably for a multitude of smaller reasons, probably a different mix each time.
Like you I cannot believe that anyone would be foolish enough to keep stock low artificially in the current situation. Interest and hype is all there. People WANT to buy it and Nintendo know that. No need to artificially generate (additional) interest by making the product something desirable through rarity. It's also not THAT sort of product.
You say: "Yep, they're stupid enough alright!" I say: "I can't see anyone worth their money and in their right mind making such a dumb decision at this time with this product". That's the only difference between our statements.
@electrolite77 But that's exactly my point, isn't it? The poster claims they know better than the ones at Nintendo, who getting paid for this sort of thing. Better than the experts (if you'd like to call them that; after all they're only human, too). Better than the ones who know what the individual reasons were for each shortage. And it would be foolish to assume that each time the reasons were the same. It's basically all just assumptions, not fact. You and me are also only assuming that the poster is not paid for this sort of assessment and possibly lacks the relevant expertise (I will gladly stand corrected), but does this add to the statement's credibility or is it rather the opposite?
We all know that Nintendo tends to calculate conservatively/cautiously, because to overproduce means throwing money out of the window (and while the competitors are okay with losing money on each sold console, Nintendo apparently aren't, which is an equally fine point of view; it is a sensible one, but not one without drawbacks, as we all can see). And who can blame them?
And I am not saying that they are above criticism either. I am saying that we do not have enough proof to claim that they're keeping stock artificially low. Let the criticism start after you actually know what you're criticizing is indeed true.
I for one couldn't have predicted such a demand for the NES Mini, because I do not have the slightest interest in this product myself (but this does not make me claim that no one does, which might be the difference here). If you ask me about a SNES Mini however... well, let's say, personally I have no interest in that either, but considering the NES Mini I can imagine demand for its big brother. Before the NES Mini none of us had the luxury of such a precedent. It's easy to say "Bah, we all knew that..." in hindsight.
@Phin68 You can't compare reviewing a movie, game or piece of music with criticizing a business decision. Even by the definition of the words this is not the same (context is as important for the precise meaning). And since you do not know what decisions were made by whom, at which point and for what reason, you cannot reasonable claim to know better.
With a movie you can of course see what choices the director, the camera person, the cutter, the production designers, etc. have made, you can hear the music, you can see the actors act, have your thoughts on the script... And on this you can base a subjective opinion if the end product meets your personal taste or not. So far so true.
But you don't have the same amount of insight into the issue at hand. You can't, because this isn't a movie. You speculate based on something that isn't evidence, but only a fact (the shortage; the evidence you're looking for is that which caused the situation, but this you do not know, it's behind the scenes, not present on the silver screen).
Microsoft and Sony need very different parts for their products, so this isn't an indication either. And as I wrote earlier, if it was as easy as flipping a switch and more units would just appear out of thin air...
Finally: "It just seems like a foolish action for Switch's long term success." With this you're making my point, it proves to me that it cannot be true. 'Cause if you think that Nintendo doesn't know that, you're not as smart as you claim to be (by saying that you're smarter than them, because you have understood this, while they haven't, the ignorant fools...). This is what I feel makes no sense about your whole argument.
Either way, I have my Switch, I couldn't care less (though of course I wish for Nintendo that Switch will be the soaring success we all hope it to be).
@Anti-Matter
There's one thing that puzzles me about this. You're saying that you do not like games with mature content, games that revolve around violence for example, because they might have a negative influence on people (which you watch with concern). Did I get this right so far? There's nothing wrong with this point of view, and wishing for a more peaceful world is commendable.
At the same time you're saying that you're into boxing and martial arts (even your avatars are an indication of that). And that's what I don't get, because isn't the whole point of these sports to punch your opponent in the face and inflict as much pain as possible, to a degree where his conscious mind cannot handle it anymore and he passes out? And that is in real life, mind you, not in games (i.e. virtual space/make believe). This to my mind is a much more real violence than any GTA or CoD out there (as it happens in RL and inflicts real pain; it also requires REAL aggression to get anywhere with it), and enjoying this as a sport (participant and audience alike) feels much more cringe-worthy to me...
@Phin68 "They've encountered it with amiibo, the NES Classic, etc." There, fixed it for you. It's very unlikely that there has ever been intent behind it, as - like I said - it doesn't make sense at all. (or does "hey, I'll generate interest and demand by making something look very rare, but then I don't EVER deliver either...!" sound plausible to anyone else? Where's the money in that?)
Have they been able to predict demand for some of their products correctly? No. Could you have done better? I seriously doubt it. (And saying so in hindsight isn't a prediction). You're looking for an easy explanation without too many variables, preferrably one which allows you to point a finger at someone (for whatever reason... does it make you feel superior perhaps?) But the world in general, and business specifically, isn't that simple, I'm afraid, not in my experience.
Again: keeping stock low artificially MIGHT be a valid business strategy for some under very specific circumstances, but here it just doesn't make sense at all, so I really cannot agree with you. Sorry.

Re: Super Mario Odyssey Walks Away With Lots Of Gamescom Awards
@Anti-Matter
Re: New VOEZ Update Adds Twelve New Songs
@countzero
Well, I used to play the piano, so I'm inclined (and used) to using more than one finger of each hand anyway... But when playing one-handed the parts where two notes slide apart or closer together are the tricky ones to coordinate... That's when I usually mess up the chain.
Re: New VOEZ Update Adds Twelve New Songs
@CTMike
This is exclusively played on the touch screen anyway, no buttons involved. And in harder difficulties you will need to coordinate both hands with four fingers each and must have crazy reflexes (or know the song and stage REALLY well) to pull it off at all... it's still fun though, don't get me wrong.
Re: New VOEZ Update Adds Twelve New Songs
@Zimon
Yes, it's crazy difficult, sometimes even on medium difficulty already.

Re: Mario + Rabbids Dev Praises "Unprecedented" Gameplay Possibilities Offered By Switch
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I'm not playing BotW as much these days (despite the DLC), simply because there's too much else I'd like to play atm, but when I did, I could enjoy very long sessions (whole days), but also the few minutes while commuting.
Re: Square Enix's Hajime Tabata Hints That Final Fantasy XV Could Be Coming To Switch

Re: FIFA 18 Sales Are Important for Future EA Support of Nintendo Switch
@TJM
Sorry if I misunderstood your meaning.
Re: FIFA 18 Sales Are Important for Future EA Support of Nintendo Switch
@dkxcalibur
Understood!
Re: FIFA 18 Sales Are Important for Future EA Support of Nintendo Switch
Re: Poll: 99 Games and Counting - Are You Pleased With the Switch eShop Library?
@bolt05

Re: Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2 Are Coming To Switch Later This Year
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
My point is: what may seem like a cash grab to you because you already know, own and have played a game to exhaustion might be a welcome addition to the library to someone else, maybe because they've always wanted to get a certain game, but couldn't decide earlier, or they just didn't have any of the systems the game was on, or just because they just love the game to bits (or bytes...) and feel the urge to dive in again, even if only for the promise of higher resolution.
Re: Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2 Are Coming To Switch Later This Year
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Re: Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2 Are Coming To Switch Later This Year
@Malanta @CarefulNow
To be fair, he tries (sometimes), but given his history, it is mainly overlooked.

I have confidence in THQ Nordic. They have shown more support and more commitment to the Wii U than many others, and their pricing seems moderate and fair to me in general, especially for what you get. Re: Guns, Gore & Cannoli is Bringing Its Brand of Mayhem to Nintendo Switch
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Re: Guns, Gore & Cannoli is Bringing Its Brand of Mayhem to Nintendo Switch
@JaxonH @SLIGEACH_EIRE et al.
Re: Nintendo Aims to Keep Switch Hot With 'Drumbeat' of Games and Strength of Concept
@PanurgeJr
Yeah, I had read that, too, and I thought about it.

Re: Nintendo Aims to Keep Switch Hot With 'Drumbeat' of Games and Strength of Concept
@JaxonH
...and he also always complains that it seems like Nintendo isn't showing much of an effort in Ireland, while the reason might just be this: I mean, if they're all like that, why bother?
Re: Minecraft On Switch Will Also Get The Super Duper Graphics Pack

Wonderful story. I can just picture it. Thanks for sharing. Goes to show that not everybody looks at games (in general or specific ones) the same way. And of course that Super Duper Graphics are not all that matter after all, no matter what others say! And right she is!
Re: Minecraft On Switch Will Also Get The Super Duper Graphics Pack

Portal Knights looks better to me, too, but unfortunately the reviews are not so favorable... There seems to be very little to do. Basic gameplay is apparently okay, but it doesn't have the stamina. I had been looking forward to that, too, now I'm gonna wait for updates (IF they come and flesh out the game). (or go for Minecraft after all).
Re: Minecraft On Switch Will Also Get The Super Duper Graphics Pack
@NEStalgia @aaronsullivan

Re: Switch Stock Shortages Cost Nintendo First Place In May's NPD Hardware Charts
@electrolite77
You must misunderstand me, because...

@Phin68

But that's exactly my point, isn't it?

@Phin68
You can't compare reviewing a movie, game or piece of music with criticizing a business decision.
Finally: "It just seems like a foolish action for Switch's long term success."
With this you're making my point, it proves to me that it cannot be true.

There seems to be a contradiction to some degree.
Re: Switch Stock Shortages Cost Nintendo First Place In May's NPD Hardware Charts
@Phin68
"They've encountered it with amiibo, the NES Classic, etc." There, fixed it for you.
Sorry.
