@AverageGamer I’ve watched it plenty. That isn’t blurry. Somewhat simplistic perhaps (which is why I didn’t dispute that part of your claim) but those aren’t blurry textures. The fact is that there could be numerous technical ways to keep the file size down. Assuming it’s due to something that we can see in the footage is pure guesswork.
@sethfranum I highly highly doubt that Nintendo will ever use a Key Card. They’ve already said that they have no intention of doing so and Bananza was already in late development at that point.
@WiltonRoots It was once semi decent (back when there was lots of competing chains) but you’re absolutely right that GAME is the last place I’d go to buy a computer game now.
@BaldB3lper78 I’m sorry but there’s no way that a game store chain had nearly its entire launch stock returned and that wouldn’t make the news. I’m not saying you weren’t told that, but that sounds like someone either greatly exaggerating or outright lying.
Edit: Also, didn’t GAME have an absolutely disastrous launch with the Switch 2 leading to many people just going elsewhere?
@BaldB3lper78 I can’t take someone seriously when they just throw claims out like this with zero sources.
1) Sales actually slowed in Japan too. Because they’ve managed to basically blow through 90% of the launch stock incredibly fast. It’ll be the same in most countries most likely. That in itself doesn’t really mean anything for week 2. Maybe by week 22…
2) “Consoles are being returned” is the most nebulous statement ever. Are you trying to suggest that there’s droves of people in the UK using a premium gadget, then immediately going “I actually hate this!” and rushing back to the shops? How would that even be known? It sounds like standard internet gossip being stated as fact.
I went from lukewarm enthusiasm to being completely sold on Bananza. It’s much deeper than I expected. It’s Odyssey with a dash of an old school collect-a-thon and even a nod to BOTW with similar challenge hunting like the shrines.
@Serpenterror Respectfully, none of this is evidence of an update making MK1 objectively worse. Not a single Switch 2 compatibility patch has done so so far. So as I said, this is nothing but “corporations are evil and actively endeavour to ruin everything” scaremongering. There’s enough subpar things in the world without stating potential worst case scenarios as fact.
@XenoShaun I know. I played the original browser version. It’s why I bought the Steam version. But as you pointed out, it wasn’t downloadable nor as feature-rich. The console version is a port of the Steam version. Hence why it’s the same price.
@Banjo- I wanted to stay out of this conversation but I’ve watched the video(s) you’re referring to and they do not make any definitive statements about the power of Switch 2. They even admit that they can’t because they’re comparing compressed YouTube footage. If anything, they acknowledge that the capabilities of the Switch 2 are impressive. The fact that the console can seemingly run the ultimate edition of Cyberpunk at a solid frame rate suggests it has something going in its favour as they didn’t even release that on PS4 and the Steam Deck just barely manages to chug the base game along.
@Toastmaster Allow me to quote you directly: “Millions of PC gamers bought Switch only because Handhelds with Steam didn't exist.” Is this not a direct reference to PC handhelds (I never said Steam Deck only) and them being competition for Switch 2? So I was putting the use of “Millions” into context. There are hundreds of millions of PC gamers worldwide and 6 million handheld PC gamers. It’s a tiny niche. There was no need to be so insulting or ultra aggressive. I was simply offering a counterpoint with context. I wasn’t attacking you.
Edit: Boy did I ever underestimate the amount of PC gamers. It’s 1.86 BILLION worldwide. That really makes the 6 million buying PC handhelds look minuscule.
@Toastmaster Just to put the “handheld PC boom” into perspective, it’s been recently reported that the entire niche (including Steam Deck) has sold 6 million units worldwide. I say this as an owner and big fan of the Steam Deck: that is not threatening the mainstream appeal of Switch 2 on its own.
@Rykdrew Sorry but I have to doubt your claims of a consistent 90 fps on the Ally X. It can’t even manage that on the PS5.
Edit: I looked this up and you’re being somewhat disingenuous with this claim as the game only reaches the mid 80s with frame generation turned on, thus adding significant input lag.
@KBuckley27 In Nintendo’s slight defence, GameCube games are up to a GB each and the apps are a wrapper to house every game for that console. So you’re looking at a far heftier download than previous consoles if it launches with a large library.
@Uncle_Franklin Wait, so you’re creating worst-case scenarios in your head and then blaming Nintendo for your assumptions? You have zero idea what information Nintendo will release between now and April 2nd to keep people interested. Tone down the doomerism at least a little.
@GameOtaku Why would this announcement remotely suggest that Nintendo would start selling classic games separately? If anything, it reiterates that NSO will carry on uninterrupted.
@KoopaTheGamer You’re kind of missing my point. It’s not always about cramming information into a headline. It’s about giving you enough to be honest while giving you a reason to read the article. Considering you could just go onto the app for a full track list, the writer had very little to work with here. Anyway, I think this is turning into a bit of a pointless purity test.
@nessisonett The irony of you criticising wording when your original comment was easy to read in a completely different way.
But to address your clarified complaint - clickbait does not mean “didn’t tell me everything in the title”. Because if it did, no headline could pass the purity test, I assure you. Headlines build interest. That’s their purpose. “Nintendo Music Adds 186 Skyward Sword Tracks” may feel “morally” superior but it kills 90% of the interest. And the current headline is fine. It doesn’t lie or mislead.
I’m not claiming all this out of sheer smugness, by the way. I’m a former journalism student. It’s drilled into you. Make the headline honest but interesting. Leave out something worth reading in the article.
@nessisonett So, you’re claiming you were lied to because you don’t personally like the game? Even putting that incredibly subjective nitpick aside, wouldn’t 186 tracks (nearly 5 and a half hours!) count as a literally huge soundtrack?
@ParadoxFawkes I know. So you’ve just proven my point. You wouldn’t have it if it didn’t have some kind of value to you. In your case, it’s online play. You’re not paying for the games. They’re just thrown in for you regardless.
So acting as if you “feel stupid” for them being included is disingenuous. You’re getting the service regardless.
This is a rather bizarre comment. Nobody’s forced you to pay for the service and you could have unsubscribed at any point (especially if you have “far much more available for free”) but you seemingly haven’t. So you’re obviously finding value somewhere, no?
@PikminMarioKirby But Nintendo Music is updated every week, whereas NSO gets something once or twice a month. Their pacing is probably going to be about the same over a year.
@Uncle_Franklin That’s completely irrelevant to Nintendo Music though, isn’t it? You’re just ignoring anything that I actually wrote to pick a fight about something I never defended.
I’m sure I’m going to irritate some by saying this but I don’t understand the expectation for Nintendo to pour soundtracks in at a blinding speed. This isn’t a premium service like Spotify. It’s part of a £17/$20 per year subscription. It’s a fun bonus. And even this “slow” pace of nearly one soundtrack per week would nearly treble the launch library size within in a year. I’m all for wanting maximum value. But I also try and remember what the cost was too.
Please don’t tell me what I’d be “better off” doing. I told you how I personally feel. I didn’t call you wrong for wanting virtual console, did I? I can assure you that I’m getting more value from NSO than I am from waiting for a virtual console release of a game, then spending £5 a pop minimum for Super Mario Bros or Super Metroid or Mario 64. Because I actually play the games added, for vastly varying degrees of time. Compared to most subscriptions I’ve had over the years, £35 for the year is a pittance when it includes 200+ games and growing, some DLC and now a fun additional music service. I’m sorry but I can’t pretend to feel ripped off by that, even if it’s seen as “smart” to be anti-subscription nowadays.
@GameOtaku With all due respect, the last thing I want is a return to the Virtual Console model. The expansion pack is £35 a year for me at most. It would have cost me far more than that to buy all of the games I’ve played on the service.
And yes, I would technically “own” a license for each game but most are one-and-done curiosities, not long term investments. So I’d either be playing far less or spending far more. Neither situation is ideal.
And a hybrid situation wouldn’t even necessarily work. Assuming everything on NSO could also be bought, that likely increases the subscription price, or still just limits what could be added due to contracts, so you’d be able to buy less anyway.
While far from perfect, I personally prefer the NSO model.
@OorWullie In a Nippon TV interview, Nintendo outright said that a big reason for this music app is to get people playing more of the games featured. Considering you’re now hankering for some DKC2 and it got me replaying Super Mario Odyssey, it sounds like mission accomplished.
@chipia In fairness, they literally just added all 5 Megaman Game Boy games for that tier.

@johnvboy White @Spider-Kev may not be bigoted in the literal sense of the word, it’s unfortunately common enough for some disabled people to exhibit an odd seeming bitterness against other disabled people. You’re just as guilty for egging the conversation on at this point.
@Moistnado Aren’t you missing the obvious? It’s not just a handheld. For example, for the first 5 years of owning mine, I used mine 100% docked, with said dock mounted within arm’s reach on the wall nearest my bed. I used a pro controller to make it easier on my very limited left hand.

Re: Nintendo Appears To Have Updated Donkey Kong Bananza's Switch 2 File Size
@AverageGamer I’ve watched it plenty. That isn’t blurry. Somewhat simplistic perhaps (which is why I didn’t dispute that part of your claim) but those aren’t blurry textures. The fact is that there could be numerous technical ways to keep the file size down. Assuming it’s due to something that we can see in the footage is pure guesswork.

Re: Nintendo Appears To Have Updated Donkey Kong Bananza's Switch 2 File Size
@chickje It’s funny you mention that because I made sure to set the direct to 4K 60 in order to offset YouTube compression as much as possible.
Re: Nintendo Appears To Have Updated Donkey Kong Bananza's Switch 2 File Size
@AverageGamer Did we watch the same footage? Nothing about the game looks “low res and blurry”.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Playable On Switch 2 Despite 'Incompatibility' And It Runs Far Better
@Serpenterror I’m sorry but this reads like needless scaremongering with no actual evidence to back it up other than “corporation evil”.
Re: Poll: Switch 2 Battery Reportedly Lasting Under Two Hours With Mario Kart - How Is Yours Holding Up?
@Medic_alert Ironically, the vast majority of these complaints were made about the original Switch. Even game prices generally increased from the 3DS.

@Joeynator3000 It wasn’t even on Steam until a few years ago. And it was a paid game at launch. I know because I bought it.
Re: Fire Emblem Engage Added To Nintendo Music, Here's Every Song Included
@Polley001 Most of the other “tracks” on the DVD don’t even have running times on listings I’ve found, so probably not.
Re: Fire Emblem Engage Added To Nintendo Music, Here's Every Song Included
@Zeebor15 The listing I found was over £70.
Re: Fire Emblem Engage Added To Nintendo Music, Here's Every Song Included
@Zeebor15 According to a listing on eBay, the CD soundtrack has a running time of 7 hours and 12 minutes.
Re: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Now Boasts 300 Playable Titles
Credit where it’s due, NSO has come a long way.
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's GBA Library With A Classic Fire Emblem
Nintendo Music also added the mammoth Fire Emblem Engage soundtrack with 182 tracks and a 7 hours, 24 minutes (!) running time.

He’s critiquing a game where they literally did nothing to improve accessibility. How can you reasonably think it’s valid to say:
“See? We give them an inch and they demand a mile! They don’t deserve that inch!”
He’s very eloquently explaining how he struggles to play a game he loves and you’re suggesting he doesn’t deserve the game.
