I laughed at the Wave Race 64 description. Personally I don't care if they release any sequel. The Gameboy original isn't my favorite game, the GC sequel is good - and neither evoke the same feeling as this does. I think it's silly to wish for sequels to these unique games to be honest. Even when they do happen, I wouldn't want more or the same.
This is just such a great idea. Some years ago I was very interested in augmented reality, and despite not being a Pokémon fan, I did see the mobile game as sort of the first killer app for it. So I'd run out immediately and get this piece of kit if I had space for it. But the adult and responsible thing to do would probably be to get rid of all my furniture first 😉
I think I tried once only. I've never experienced a mobile game that didn't end up turning me off. Dr Mario World probably held my attention for the longest of any mobile game, but eventually the grinding became too much.
I'm very happy with this game. It feels like special editions of each game, and if it hadn't been pointed out that it was emulation, I wouldn't have noticed. The original All-stars is one of my favourites for SNES even though I prefer SMB 1 and 3 on NES. Same thing here. I prefer 64 on the 64, and Sunshine has recently gotten new life with the Sunburn romhack, so I'll finish playing it there. But Galaxy... Oh my it looks and feels good, it's worth the asking price alone. Much easier to get along with the pointing 'nonsense' with the Switch controllers and touch option. All in all I agree with the review - this is great.
@RustedHero I'll be playing it a bunch today. Testing a fixed RGB mod I botched on my NTSC N64 some weeks ago. The ironic thing is that none of the visual improvements really help this game. In my opinion this game could have been presented better on the 64, but I have no other version to compare with. You're right though, it's special, something about the mechanics perhaps does it for me.
Various games in the NBA Jam series including spiritual successors. Current favourites are NBA Hangtime on N64 and NBA Jam TE on the Saturn. The DC version of Showtime is also growing on me as the first of the 3D style games to have any appeal.
Great news. I'd buy the DLC in a heartbeat if there weren't a physical edition announced, which now appears very appealing. The only issue I have with collecting physical editions these days - besides day 1 patches - is the DLC. This developer gets it
@NEStalgia I realize that I'm participating in a manufactured discussion over an imaginary problem which is designed to trigger everybody and which leads nowhere.
Why is there no option to indicate that I have no reservations at all? The game shall cost what it costs, and I'll gladly pay extra up front to avoid the inevitable compensation mechanisms such as pre-cut content added as later DLC, micro transactions, and games released unfinished.
@TDRsuperstar2 I feel similar. I wouldn't say I'm tired of it, but it is collecting dust indeed. During this period of society self-destructing I found it relevant to dive head first into retro gaming, yet to resurface. The last Switch game which had my strong attention was probably Three Houses. But Paper Mario is in the mailbox waiting so let's see
My Paper Mario pre-order wasn't delivered as expected, so I'm trying out various Sega games and arcade ports on the Saturn and Dreamcast consoles I just fixed up.
I've had this pre-ordered since the day it was announced same as with most Nintendo published games. Can't really imagine a scenario where I'd end up regretting that. Reviews don't usually sway me, I read them for the details and facts pointed out.
@robr Well said. I'll just have to try it out! And you're right. It's the double shotgun. It's just oddly satisfying and it symbolises a different feel.
@robr Thank you for that comparison. Now the game has my interest and I may just give it a go.
Doom II is my all time favourite PC game by far. In fact it's probably what lured me away from Nintendo consoles for a good two decades. Now we can have it all
How is it gameplay wise? I loved the originals for being highly inventive yet straightforward to play.
It's hard to deny that this is an impressive piece of work - and clearly a work of passion. A couple of years ago I would have been all over this. But I'd also lose interest in actually playing the game pretty quickly. These days my hobby is to mod retro consoles, and after the Gameboy and the SNES, the N64 is my favourite. Exactly because of this game. Super Mario 64 really deserves to be played again in a respectable video quality. Where various N64 emulators and ports (DS) have failed to catch my interest, playing it on the original hardware with improved quality has. I quite enjoy the recently recompiled ROM via EverDrive which is related to this.
I reacquired a SGB when my retro project yielded good quality SNES video. And a SGB2 after a successful 60hz mod. Recently I've upgraded the SGB with its own oscillator to correct the speed issue also solved in the SGB 2. Good times.
I was going to make a snide remark about IP and the key to the source code being a DLC to be paid after the initial deal. Guess reality caught up to my most sarcastic views
Super Punch Out and Super Mario World on the SNES. Testing a Gameboy Color VGA output mod so revisiting the old savegame of Super Mario Bros Deluxe with that. Been playing a bunch of my right to tinker Mega CD backups for the first time ever as well - on the gaming history preserving MiSTER freedom FPGA.
There's a word for strongly reacting to truth when it concerns threats to a constructed image of self. It's called denial. It's easy to spot. Besides outright rejection or refusal of the threat there will be some negotiation/justification. And at the same time there's also a tendency to copy tactics of an imagined adversary. Such as inserting brick triggering mechanisms into a supposedly freedom enabling pro-tinkerer right-to-modify devices.
@RustedHero @beazlen1 @Dragonslacker1 Thanks for the suggestions. Ended up playing Wave Race after I got sync working. Will try the other titles as well
Wave Race 64, Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 to test my newly RGB modded N64. Wave Race triggers a bunch of sync issues in line doubling modes, so that's mostly to test and tune the setup with (and to see if I can finish a Race blinded). Other games are marvelous to experience again "as I remembered them" on a HDTV. Any recommendations for other N64 classics I ought to consider?
This is great. For some reason the Wii U is the only console that simply doesn't appeal to me. Perhaps due to the gimmick of the controller. And it's not because a handful or so of its exclusive games wouldn't justify having one on the shelf. Titles like Pikmin 3 and Super Mario 3D World have often tempted me to go down the PC-emu-and-neckbeard route. These news goes to show that patience pays off
Oh this should be good. I loved Urban Trial Playground. There was something about the game that had me coming back at the expense of losing all interest in Trials Rising.
Well, the best games for this purpose are SNES and N64 games. With those consoles and all the cables and HDTV converters required to play, there's very little option to even leave the home
I voted yes. But truth be told, I already had an old model Switch which was modded and used to run emulators on. The performance of the emulators and maturity of other homebrew was disappointing however, so it's now unmodded and repurposed for Animal Crossing.
That's a funny coincidence. Before reading this I just came from picking up the Japanese N64 version of this game (needed a NTSC game to test my new N64 on a HDTV).
@Wazeddie22 Yup. Agreed. My first impressions on Doom 64 (truly being the first, I never got the N64 version assuming it to be a cut down version of the PC game) is that this is the Doom sequel I've been waiting for. The other thing that occured to me is that I'll not be getting Doom Eternal. I'm just not enjoying Doom 3 and 4, they're nothing like Doom as I see it. The Wolfenstein games are also collecting digital dust on my eShop redownload shelf, for that matter
Step 9. Start buying and modding old consoles and only play the first game that you found it relevant to test the mod with. I'm playing a lot of 10 minute sessions of Tetris, Batman: The video game, Super Mario Advance, and the Wariolands the days. Maybe Animal Crossing will get me back on track with digital hoarding of Switch titles again. Having the eshop buy button close by is a lot more convenient than a soldering iron, though I tend to get burned more often.
The review of this game makes me feel like the amount of time I put into 100%'ing GTA V is about to be put to shame.
Honestly, this is one of those Nintendo franchises I'm looking forward to getting into starting with the latest installment. While another wildly popular franchise - Pokémon - never caught my attention, starting up with last year's Emblem directly led to buying a GBA and collecting those games.
I come prepared, though. New Leaf is sitting and waiting. But I suppose I'll be looking at a GC soon enough.
I'm checking this article mainly to reconfirm my worst fears: there's still no complete N64+GC+Wii+Wii-U+GBA+DS library available, which is something I expect from the handsome price I pay for NSO. And, without having actually looked at what was released, I will point out that the titles are not the Donkey Kong Country trilogy and for this reason I also regret paying for NSO. Even though I have the DKC games in some form on original SNES, SNES Classic, various VC instances, and the GBA ports, the fact that they are not in the SNES app somehow devalues everything else. Thank you for reading my righteous complaint.

Picked up my preorder earlier. It's still addictive
Re: Warner Bros. Was Worried Mortal Kombat 11 Wouldn't Be "Nintendo-Friendly"
I still have my Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 cartridges for SNES. The first one being mostly a curiousity

Super Mario Galaxy via the Switch All-stars collection, Galaxy 2 on Wii and Super Mario 64 on the N64.

I'm European, so 10/10 without even taking the quiz.
Re: Random: Forget The Switch, Super Mario 64 Has Been Ported To Dreamcast, PS2 And PS Vita
Oh wow, this is cool. And it might make the PS2 a relevant addition to my retro system lineup.
