I didn't take the general pre-order situation seriously, so I'm not doing any midnight pickups. But I did accept the My Nintendo store up their offer to pre-order there, so we'll see how that goes, shipping from Ireland to Denmark. Fast Fusion and Mario Kart World are my picks. Perhaps Street Fighter, Yakuza or Cyperpunk, pending reviews. Compared to the Switch 1 launch I'm severely more employed now, so I'll have to pace myself with the purchases. Also looking forward to the upgrade packs and GameCue NSO.
I played Earthbound for the first time at the beginning of the pandemic. And managed to finish Mother for the first time at the end of last year. Both experiences left me with a lot of nostalgia for those games. Didn't think it was possible, but I guess that's what makes them timeless
Cruising around in GTA V outside of a mission and carefully aiming and shooting the driver of every car in front of you, watching them make way for you as their car smoothly drifts into a ditch brings about calmness and good mental health much like a Snickers solves hunger.
Things like this used to happen a lot on Steam as I recall, which is why I no longer buy digital stuff with preload. So I'll have no problem waiting for the physical copy.
If I'm being honest, these models of selling content is a major turn off for me. Despite being presumably good value for the cost, the fact that my choices are two types of subscriptions, one if which is guaranteed to cut me off from the content when I stop paying, is distracting. As a matter of fact, any kind of 'season' style deal is just a reminder to that I'm essentially putting money on a bet that current excitement will win over future impatience and distractions.
I'm pretty much interested in all those games except for Splatoon and Pokémon. Most I'll definitely get, some like Triangle and Bayonetta will depend on how they are reviewed
Was reminded about the upcoming Kirby game, so I've been playing Kirby's Adventure on the NES, Kirby's Dreamland 3 on the SNES, and Kirby 64 on the guess what
I've got a bunch of modded or restored Gameboy models and the Color and Advance are not used at all for playing the monochrome titles.
For me, the Funny Playing IPS mod for the Gameboy Pocket (as well as the equivalent for the DMG-01) is probably the best authentic and mostly-original hardware experience for playing Gameboy games. The retro pixel mode almost nails the look.
The second best handheld experience would be with the classic backlit mod, IMO.
Recently I've also been enjoying playing with the Super Gameboy. There's some nostalgia for the SGB enhancements and border - and the R5X LCD scanline option is strangely compelling 😊
@BoostPower good points. I remember controls as well as performance being turn-offs back then. I'll consider the sequel when released and reviewed, or revisit old one
FastRMX is fantastic. The original RedOut was also compared to FastRMX. I remember being excited about it when it was announced, yet only playing it a few minutes on release before deciding it wasn't worth my time. So I'm more likely to take a step back and seek out F-Zero again 😉
@peppermillian Link's Awakening! It's one of those games that's hard to put down once started. It's the most captivating Gameboy game for me. Super Metroid has the same effect.. those two games have derailed me from finishing Dread 😁
@120frames-please
The English translation patch is available at romhacking.net if you want to give it a go and create a ROM for yourself.
Sorry to hear about the cart, by the way, but I'm not surprised.
My hobby of creating my own repro carts started after looking into why a Chinese repro of a game didn't work. Long story short, they pretty much all use a generic board that must be configured for the ROM being put on.
Sometimes the PCB will be a bit too generic or not configured the right way. As I recall, Super Famicom Wars English ROM requires 256kbit SRAM, so again not surprised.
Edit: Oh yeah, they sometimes also use 3.3v ROMs where the SNES requires 5v. So the chip quite literally may not be up to spec! No story is ever short when I start thinking about game cart hardware 😜
No problem. I've been meaning to catch up with the series anyway. Made a Super Famicom Wars SNES repro with an English patch and plan to do the same to the Famicom original I've just bought.
The Switch caught my attention when Odyssey was first teased. I decided that I would buy it when that game was released, even if it meant only playing that one game. At the time l was burned out on games having focused on PC for 15 years, but the Switch revived that interest.
Somehow I'd missed the fact that Link's Awakening is on there. Now it's definitely a must. While I find the NES entries good, they are also somewhat flawed. The Gameboy Zelda is pure perfection 🙂
@Divinebovine yup it is. I tend to also enjoy lying on the floor to relax, doing nothing. The sofa is pretty much just for sessions of gaming that are so focused that sitting still doesn't feel like a waste of time 😁
Puzzle games with touch screen controls lying on a yoga mat on the floor. Metroid Dread in the living room late at night on the big screen, sitting on the same spot in the sofa where I last finished Super Metroid.
Completely agree. I also concur with the statement regarding the Twin Famicom being the crown jewel. I want one without intend to actually play FDS disks on it 😁
Well my plan was to hoard mass produced games in their original packaging before injecting some sort of rating system into the market, pumping up the prices, creating an artificial demand and, you know, manipulating my way to a profit. But someone beat me to it so I guess I'll have to just keep the games and play them as part of a slightly-above-average-compulsion-level hobby while brushing up on racketering 101. Now where'd I put that game genie code book?
In general, denial is in itself a pretty strong indicator. Especially when it happens as a reflex. Someone who is genuinely not aware of an issue such as this would not feel the need to react strongly using generic statements that are wholly focused on casting doubt on the source of the matter being denied.
I used to be a big fan of the series. And GTA V was last game played before ditching PC gaming entirely for the Switch. But even the excellent Doom ports can't get my attention, so I think I'm over that phase 😉
Indeed. One of this year's hobbies for me has been to import SFC and FC games from Japan for cheap and apply translation patches (or the English language SNES/NES ROM directly) to an EPROM, replacing the original MASKROM. Mother 2 and Mother were some of the first l tested the process with. Other games like Super Metroid, F-Zero, or Gradius 2 for the Famicom are already fully English. My next project will probably be Yoshi's Island with the "no crying" romhack patch. I already have the PAL version, but can't stand playing it 🙂
I have a soft spot for Metroid 2. Like many of the Nintendo franchises I experienced it first on the Gameboy. But there's really no denying that Super Metroid is the king!
Super Mario 3D World, Skyward Sword, Mario Golf, in about that order. Still diving deeper in the retro games, so the main Switch use cases include recharging the flat battery, installing OS updates, and, if I remember why I turned it on, play some from the physical first party backlog 😁
Well, I was planning on playing Mario Golf and I did pick up my copy on Friday. But between an unreliable WiFi connection and OS + day 1 updates, I somehow got distracted and dived back into retro. So far in no particular order: Crisis Force, Pop'n Twinbee, Batman Return of the Joker, Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War. The first two are great fun in Coop!
Haha, I just caught myself being that guy: "What? Mario 64 is not number 1? How dare you?"
Guess it makes sense. I have a strange affinity for the N64 and its high quality but limited launch lineup, Waverace being another title that is hard to explain my fascination with.
But I suppose it's time to man up and try out the other top titles - Banjo-Kazooie might be a good first 'new' game to try
Been playing Zoda's Revenge on the NES today as well as Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 on the SNES. It wasn't exactly planned. In fact I had planned something very much the opposite: Crisis Force and Fire Emblem 4.
I suppose with all that EA research and source code in hand we will see the rise of hackers transitioning to a microtransactions-based economy of ransomware. And victims of extortion will long for a time where they could just pay once.

Return to Monkey Island mostly. I cleaned a NES Advantage controller recently, so probably will test it with Contra or some shoot em ups today.

Last couple of years I've only been buying physical games, first party or exclusives, never for the bonuses, though they are appreciated
Re: Review: Kirby And The Forgotten Land - A Breezy Delight With Mario-Level Invention
Was happy to see the demo come out. Played it twice after playing a bit of each of the GB, NES and SNES Kirby games. Prepared for Friday

10/10 for the new games, remakes, and for adding N64 to Switch online.

@peppermillian thanks, I did! Broke a rule and took it to bed to play link's awakening last night. On the other hand it's a watch right 😁
