@MajorTom Because the whole model is designed to wring more cash out of you, especially when there is day-1 DLC with story arcs, season passes for online or 'exclusive content' etc. The Amiibo have tiny functionality and are basically for collectors, there's nothing in the way of meaningful content in there. I'm just saying that value is subjective, and it's become and industry standard to cut out content and drip-feed it to you in the form of an extra payment. Dread is between £40 and £50 in the UK, and what?
@BloodNinja Point being that £60 is rarely £60 any more, it's actually £69.99 in most cases for next gen and that doesn't factor in DLC. People defended Returnal to the grave, a roguelike in pretty skin, but if they found value at £69.99 then more power to them. Value is subjective, but people sure do like to be hypocritical when it comes to the price if their games.
Is Metroid Dread worth £40-50? That remains to be seen, but as of now I have the special edition and Amiibo ordered as it's a ****ing event. Metroid Dread, who'd have thought it.
My launch day Switch is still going strong, and I have a Series S with Game Pass locked in. I'm sure the Deck will find it's audience and it's a capable machine, but it's not for me.
I may get an OLED if they do a BotW2 special edition, that may be too much to resist.
Lol at the fanboying and bashing going on though....... Some of y'all are pretty insecure and immature.
Whether something is 'worth it' or not is entirely subjective, but games are expensive to develop and this is no exception.
I'm through arguing if this will be 'worth it', I'll simply state that I'm very happy to lay down the bones for it and the Amiibo as it's Metroid Freaking Dread and the kids simply can't grasp what that means for fans.
You go over there, I'll be over here enjoying Metroid.
@kpenders Why shouldn't Dread be $60? Surely, at this point anyway, that's quite a subjective way to think about it? It's only just been revealed, literally fresh 'out of the box', and that was an earlier build of the game. You can't say it's not worth the money just as much as I can't say it is, but Metroid fans are excited. I'm excited. If we're willing to pay $60/£50 for a game we want, then leave us be.
Horses for courses, innit. Some people will claim it was utter toss, others will praise them for saving E3 from the dull 2022-fest that it arguably was.
I went in with a very low bar, and I came away pleasantly surprised. I'll be spending more money on Switch this year than I was initially planning (Switch Pro 2022 y'all), with at least 3 of those titles on lock as well as the Hyrule Warriors DLC.
Call me a fanboy all you like, but this E3 was abysmal to day the least and Nintendo came in with the goods.
All those Game Pass goodies were great, but the (what seems like) annual installment of Forza Horizon, a Halo game that's bee through dev hell and Psychonauts 2 (as much as I am looking forward to it) weren't enough. 2022, 2022, 2022, DLC, shooter, blah blu blah..... And that was from all companies, not just MS. I like Xbox, and my Series S will be well serviced, but.....
E3 was pants. Nintendo's presentation gave me what I wanted at least - games I'm not waiting years for.
I've said before that a Switch XL is more likely than a Super/Pro Switch, and I'd be tickled if that was the case.
Mainly due to the meltdowns that would happen across the internet, but also because I wouldn't have to spend £400 on a new 4K Switch for at least a couple of years.
@Bentendo1609 Ummmmm, I commented. Didn't like it then, don't like it now. I get that Nintendo want to sell Amiibo, but I don't have to be happy about it is all.
@johnvboy Yes, but I do feel that it sets a very strange precedent for their future releases. Imagine Metroid Prime 4 having features locked behind Amiibo......
@johnvboy I'm not blaming Nintendo in the slightest, they have no control over the situation.
I do blame Nintendo for locking what could have been an easily included feature behind one of their figurines, that's totally on them (whether its a paltry feature or not).
@ModdedInkling That content was created after the game released, which is slightly less contentious than locking a quality-of-life feature behind a figurine that will inflate in price at launch thanks to a-hole scalpers. It's a sucky move, and there's no real way to defend it.
@Dringo Your statement wasn't accurate at all, which was that Nintendo's cloud service - something they don't have - uses Azure. A third party that uses Azure to stream a game to Switch categorically is not part of Nintendo, therefore I stand firm 👍🏻
@Dringo Ubitus isn't a part of Nintendo, so it's Ubitus that uses Azure to stream games to Switch as a third party. That ain't the same thing as Nintendo using Azure to provide cloud services to users, like, at all.
The demand will be much stringer if/when this rumoured new model hits the lines, so it's going to be interesting (and scary) to see how this plays out..... If at all.
I love how the internet has turned this into a meme, there are some proper raging kevs out there.
My opinion about this has always been simple: if you want it buy it, if you don't.... Well, don't.
These games aren't dead, they wont be deleted, and the code is more than secure.
Nintendo exist to make money from you, so of course they will leverage their IP over and over. The day that they see more value in doing a service like Gamepass and decide it is viable then they will do so, but let's not be under any illusion that MS are doing what they are doing to be your friend..... At some point, inevitability even, the costs of that service will rise significantly.

@BloodNinja They have expensive day-one DLC instead.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting A Switch OLED Or Valve Steam Deck?
Neither, and I don't use Steam.

I'm already knee-deep in their services, so bring it on.
Re: Sonic Colors: Ultimate Switch Trailer Removes 60fps Perk Of Original Video

No. I won't be skipping this at all. Jeebus, 30FPS is hardly a deal-breaker.
Re: EA Is Bringing Another Legacy Edition Of FIFA To Nintendo Switch
@Dpishere Dat easy Switch cash tho...... From people who don't care or know no better.
Re: Fancy A Switch OLED For £800? Scalpers Are Already Flogging Pre-Orders
Lol. They will be in for a shock when nobody buys them.
Re: Where To Pre-Order Nintendo Switch OLED Model
As I said to myself earlier in the year, if the "Pro" isn't a thing then I will hold out for the next limited edition, preferably a BotW 2 model.
I won't be getting a single thing until 2022.
Re: Gallery: Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) In All Its Glory
Team XL wins! No pro for us, the rumours were definitely for the next hardware.
Re: Where To Pre-Order Metroid Dread Special Edition And Samus & EMMI amiibo
@Radpal Ummmmm...... Samus Returns was great, developed by Mercury Stream and Nintendo EPD......

Oops..... Got both from ShopTo. Fingers crossed they don't f*** it up or damage it.

Had them pre-ordered, but cancelled.
They sure are pretty, but I'm not spending £65 for them to sit in my cupboard for 3 years until I flog them.
Re: UK Retailer GAME Gives Away Euro 2020 Pokémon Cards, Scalpers Flip Them Instantly
@Zuljaras Ah well, let them waste their money. For everyone else though, these parasites are a pain on the arse (to put it mildly).
Re: UK Retailer GAME Gives Away Euro 2020 Pokémon Cards, Scalpers Flip Them Instantly
Hopefully the anti-scalper bill will go through soon, and these ***** will need to get a real job as opposed to operating as second rate con artists.
Never pay a scalper, folks.
Re: The E3 2021 Awards Winners Are In, But Nintendo Lost Out
@kpenders Not for Metroid fans. You're all fanboy talk and no trousers, son.
Re: Hideki Kamiya Shares Irritation At Speculation Over Bayonetta 3
@the_weakest_link What do you mean 'he'? They, as in Nintendo, call the shots with Bayonetta 3. It's no wonder he's getting pissed off.

Metroid 5 and Breath of the Wild 2 say otherwise.

Re: Rumour Buster: Has GameStop Just Revealed The 'New Nintendo Switch'? Probably Not
Copywriter capitalises 'new' by 'accident'.
GameStop gets a s**t-ton of added exposure for absolutely zero effort.
Yeah...... That typo tho 😅
Switch Pro isn't coming, people. Deal.
Re: Metroid Prime 4 Was First Announced Four Years Ago Today
@MarioBrickLayer I think it's more likely that we get Zelda until next E3, then MAYBE we see a hint of MP4.
Retro could've been guns blazing until this point, and it still wouldn't be ready for a full reveal.
Maybe we get lucky, and the rumours about a new 2D entry are true. Perhaps it will be some kind of precursor to MP4, set the story up or something.
More likely a port of Samus Returns though.
Re: Random: Someone Has Already Got Mario Kart Up And Running In Game Builder Garage
Cease and desist?
Re: Metroid Prime 4 Was First Announced Four Years Ago Today
There will be no Metroid Prime 4 at E3 this year.
Anyone saying it's vapourware needs to find a new hobby though, it and Bayonetta 3 are still in development.

@Grail_Quest What, lol 🥴

MP4 was never, I repeat, NEVER a 2020 title.

Re: Metroid Prime 4 Developer Hires DreamWorks Talent As A Lighting Artist
I have two theories on this:
1 - MP4 is a ways away, and we are looking at a late 2022 reveal for an early 2023 release.
2 - Retro had something cooking behind closed doors (as has long been rumoured), and Nintendo ordered them to rework it into MP4 instead.
That last one's a long shot, I know.
