References to Minecraft's creator Markus "Notch" Persson have been removed from the game as part of its latest update.
Originally spotted by Twitter user @decrepitlab, and then confirmed by PC Gamer, the update has removed two quotes referencing Persson which would usually appear on the game's splash screen. Previously, 'Made by Notch!' and 'The Work of Notch!' would be amongst the messages that could appear; the update has seemingly replaced these with new quotes like 'Don't worry, be happy!' and 'Go to the dentist.'
Microsoft has yet to confirm why these changes have been made, although the general consensus suggests that it's likely as part of a move to distance the game's family-friendly name away from Persson as much as possible. Since selling developer Mojang and all Minecraft ownership rights to Microsoft in 2014, Persson has become a controversial figure online, generating a negative reputation thanks to multiple comments made on Twitter.
Despite these changes, Persson is still credited as the game's creator.

with how obnoxious he's been acting on twitter im not surprised
I remember reading that quote all the time! It's kinda sad it will not be around anymore.
That's fair enough I guess. They bought the rights so can do what they want.
It seems the backlash...
... got kicked up a notch.
The association with that person did make me reticent to let my son play it for quite a while.
Yeah the game is much safer to play today now it has that removed. Parents can breathe a big relief.
Hahahahahahahahahahaha.
Modern life is rubbish. People are so funny with stuff like this. Whatever he said on Twitter and how offensive he was these two tiny things will make no difference in the world. We need to start making real change and doing things that make a real difference. Anyone who is relieved or happy with this needs a reality check.
I’m all for removing his name. If he sold up and isn’t involved fine but anyone that this impacts their decision to play or let their children play is a complete joker.
Sad. I'm not into Twitter but to screw the original creator like this seems harsh.
@Stocksy bit of an overreaction.
@Sandro89 How is taking two quotes from him off the splash screen "screwing" him? Seriously. MS paid $2.5B for the full rights to the game. They can do whatever the hell they want to with it.
@smashboy2000 I don't think changing the historical record and changing who is in a film are exactly the same thing. This is almost certainly a dev making a tiny change after being mildly irritated at seeing the name every tenth time he launched the game for a test.
The black and white thinking which makes the mildest thing as bad as the most terrible is exactly the worst thing about these Internet pub bores.
@neufel @oatmaster I just erased my comment. I didn't saw the line in the article saying he was still in the credits !
I got fooled by the article's title.
But if he had been erased from the credits, yep, that would have been a censorship problem, which is a very serious one and absolutly not a matter of black and white thinking. I don't like black and white thinking but I don't like that we don't call something by its name because we fear it might be black and white thinking.
But well, this doesn't matter anymore here now
Thanks for the notification about my mystake !
@smashboy2000 Then I delete mine too.
Nothing happened here, move along folks
@neufel Thanks ^^
@Stocksy Not cool.
First off the article is giving a possible reason for the removal but it is most likely purely because the company now owns the property and therefore want to cement their name into it.
If it IS the case they want to distance themselves because of controversy then yea,it's not a giant world problem and it won't fix anything of great importance BUT
To blatantly just criticise someone's parenting choice, (with an obvious finger who to without actually admitting it and which isn't your business anyway) in a 'I'm superior because little things don't bother me' way is just moronic.
How about doing something active to fix major world problems instead of wasting time bashing people or how they live on the internet ey?
@Stocksy Real change comes from stuff like this. If the punishment for being that kind of creep is no one will associate with you, people will stop being like that.
@smashboy2000 it can't be censorship, it's not the government doing it. Private people and companies have freedom of association and freedom of speech. Why do you hate private freedoms?
@ReaderRagfish said no one ever
@StevenG Someone's freedom stops where the freedom of the others begins.
It's not a matter of private freedom : if you create something, you deserve the recognition of it. Even if it just a tiny line in the credits roll. Even if you are such an awful person like Notch.
@KingdomHeartsFan
Feigning ignorance: check
Using the word snowflake in 2019: check
It's about ethics in video games journalism: check
If you wanted normal people to make fun of you, you're doing great!
Somebody has a complex.
Notch is irredeemable, indefensible trash.
best forgotten.
What exactly did Notch say to become a pariah?
@VoodooTrumpet He's against the SJW, that alone is enough to start this kinda [removed]
But he's completely rich, so he doesn't need to fear any of them getting him fired or the likes
@VoodooTrumpet
Nothing in particular. He's just more right-wing than mainstream corporations like to associate with.
He criticizes the modern feminist movement, the current transgender movement, and I think he's a Trump supporter.
All pretty mainstream opinions really but corporations don't like to associate with for various political and legal reasons. Corporations tend to have a kind of generic set of political opinions they pretend to support. Notch has definitely strayed away from that list of opinions since he sold the company.
Don't know what he said, but I'm not a fan of Cancel Culture. Don't think it's right that a mob of Twittiots has the power to tear down a person's legacy and future because of something dumb they said.
Oh noes! Notch openly criticizes liberal sacred cows. What a monster! He should be thrown down the memory hole
@Dezzy
Aww is that all? The fuss people are making you'd think he ate a baby person.
@StevenG
"It sounds like a lot of monsters are getting scared about being called out."
Meh, we're all monsters, some of us just have better masks.
@Dezzy @andywitmyer @KingdomHeartsFan @VoodooTrumpet He called transgender people "absolutely evil."
@neufel Just reposting someone else's press release or referencing a rumor article is hardly journalism. It is more akin to spreading gossip for the purpose of others to gossip about it on their site while seeing ads.
In this case all the article does is summarize (poorly) the changes without context as to what led Microsoft to make those changes. It didn't even explain what offensive thing was said. Then at the bottom you can click on the actual articles that reported on the issue.
EDIT: Just to clarify, I love this site for it's reviews and community but the news section essentially is an aggregator of news published by others.
@amiiboacid
That's not quite what he said. He believes, as many conservatives do, that transgenderism is a mental illness that you should try and cure, rather than just accepting as just another identity.
He said it was "absolutely evil" to encourage the acceptance of an illness as normal. He wasn't talking about the transgender people themselves.
He could obvioulsy try harder to phrase things more nicely, but his actual position on the issue is shared by a massive percentage of the population. 44% of americans: https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/11/08/transgender-issues-divide-republicans-and-democrats/
Every comment above defending the guy who pretends not to know what he's actually about with his race science nonsense is a liar. You are a liar and a bad person.
Only in 2019 can expressing a conservative viewpoint on the internet result in your authorship credit being removed from your intellectual property by a mega conglomerate and get you lumped in with pedophiles and Nazis by low IQ basement dwellers who think they support the Constitution while they cheer on practices that punish wrongthink. I could list the cure for cancer in this comment and still get downvotes for violating someone's digital safe space. #ThisIsTheCurrentYear
@oatmaster and not letting your child play a game coz of four words on a loading screen isn’t an over reaction???
@DABYX can’t you see that just removing a tiny few word thing from a loading screen ISNT a real world problem and will corrupt no one.
I’m not defending the guy his views or his Twitter.... im saying these three or fours words on a loading screen isn’t an issue.
Can anyone argue with that with a straight face???
Imagine going to bat for a billionaire crypto-fascist who thinks he's better than other people because of the color of skin he was born with. A guy who said he does not care at all about Synagogues and Mosques getting shot up as long as he can keep being a white supremacist. Go to hell.
@Darknyht My sentence "it's about ethics in video games journalism" had a bit more meaning than just "is it cool for a website to repost something" though.
I'm sure you know what I mean, especially re: kingdomheartsfan's disingenuous comments in this whole section.
@Stu13
Gimmie those citations.
@Dezzy "He believes, as many conservatives do, that transgenderism is a mental illness that you should try and cure, rather than just accepting as just another identity."
you say that as if it's supposed to be a positive statement.
(spoiler: it isn't)
@Charlie_Girl
That's because I believe in accurately representing other people's opinions without contaminating it with your own bias. It's an old concept that seemed to disappear around the time social media appeared.
@Dezzy not the point I was making, and you know it
"Sonic was never good" - IGN
@Stu13
When did he say any of those things? I follow him on twitter and didn't see any of those.
@Charlie_Girl
What was the point you were making?
@Dezzy my comment is right there, you can re-read it.
@shaneoh Speak for yourself.
@smashboy2000 So you want the government to infringe on both partie freedom? Notch gave up control over this game and the credits for a sum of money. To keep more control he would have received less payment. You are describing a an authoritarian regime.
@Stocksy I'm sure you didn't mean any harm but my point was you (at least seemed) to be mocking a particular commenter over what they decide to do parenting wise.
Heck, you may not have even seen that comment beforehand but it seemed that way.
Also it's not really much of a matter to discuss. They changed it for whatever reason and that's it.
If people are screaming for removal due to controversy, so what?
@Charlie_Girl
Yes, you said I was phrasing it as if it's a good thing.
I answered that I was just phrasing it in a way that Notch would agree with. That's not the same thing as agreeing with it yourself.
It's a debate concept called "steelmanning", as opposed to strawmanning, which is how lazy people debate issues.
It's a way of avoiding misunderstanding, not a way of promoting the belief in question.
@Dezzy let's try again.
"He believes, as many conservatives do, that transgenderism is a mental illness that you should try and cure, rather than just accepting as just another identity."
that's not a good, correct, accurate, factual, or in any way positive thing to believe
After reading a few more comments I don't understand the up in arms attitude here?
His name is still credited as the creator...
It's not like they've wiped all records of his (nick)name off the internet.
It's just the splash screen. My first thought would be, well he's not involved anymore so that is the reason anyway.
@Charlie_Girl
That's an entirely separate question. I was simply describing his position.
@Dezzy
point is, Notch has reprehensible views and parades them publicly.
Microsoft is in their right to distance themselves from such behavior (and should arguably be lauded for it [at least in my eyes]).
good talk.
@KingdomHeartsFan
Ah yes of course, going straight from "I don't care about what you think" to "hehe you stalk me wink wink".
Do you know you can also chill and stop being so antagonistic with everyone?
We are still talking about the removal of 2 one liners in a game, dude.
@neufel
Using the 'its the current year' statement is so 2015
"Despite these changes, Persson is still credited as the game's creator."
Just gonna leave this here
@KennyBania I should have said "seeing people still say snowflakes makes me yeet" sorry
@Charlie_Girl
I didn't disagree with that.
Of course they have the right, given that they own it.
@cool_boy_mew Please mind your language!
@neufel No but reducing someone's argument (no matter how poorly worded) to automatically mean something it [EDIT: might not] will not help conversation either. The fact is there is a group of very bad/wrong people who are hiding behind "it's about ethics in journalism", but there is equally a group of people that is alarmed by seeing journalism (and conversation/debate) be reduced to propaganda or gossip at the cost of our ability to have differing points of view.
Granted the free world is not at stake in this particular matter, but we live in a world where our leaders decry "FAKE NEWS" anytime something disagrees with them. Too often the same happens on public forums where the seemingly automatic response to disagreement is to just violently shut all discussion down and decry the evils of the other party.
@Octane Do you ever get the feeling Ryan simply wants you to suffer?
@Sandro89 I’m not on Twitter and I try to avoid following news of the clash right now between identity politics on the left and right (I think both intersectionalists and white supremacists are insane - centrists represent sanity). Why is it that we have to be identified by our group identity? I looked up a couple of his tweets, and in that regard I don’t appreciate what he said - but I also don’t appreciate the response. Aren’t we supposed to judge based on content of character?
@Stocksy that's not what I said though is it? I said I was reticent because Notch was/is an arsehole. My concern was founded on the worry that in looking for Minecraft-related things my children might stumble upon the maker and be exposed to terrible and damaging nonsense presented with the impression of it being true.
As it actually turned out, looking for Minecraft stuff brought up DanTDM mostly who seems to be a pretty good egg so my reticence was me being excessively cautious.
But besides, try suggesting in real life to someone that their approach to their children is incorrect. That goes down really well
@Reydn How dare you be rational!
Seriously, though, it's all just so exhausting from both sides. I'm not on Twitter or Facebook mostly to avoid the toxicity.
@KingdomHeartsFan I'm glad this conversation went from "you're all snowflakes" to "shh", at least now you're honest.
@Darknyht I agree. Journalism now is hyper agenda-driven. The extremists in the left and right have resorted to calling each other names, rather than engage in intelligent and respectful discussion.
Still scrolling through his twitter and found some comments I even agree with.
So far it just seems like he being pushed away because of opposing views.
What has he said for this to have happened?
@Dezzy If you replaced trasgender people with a racial minority you would see why this has little to do with opinion and more to do with basic morals.
@VoodooTrumpet He attacks transgender people saying he'd rather be a feminine redacted. He gets upset if hes called a transphobe despite being extremely open about hating transgender people calling them evil. He has pushed racist theories that some ethnic groups are naturally more intelligent than others. He believes in Pizzagate and Qanon and so on. He also flames everyone on Twitter who challenge his claims.
Damn I think I just lost some brain cells reading these comments
@NIN10DOXD
And if you replaced gender dysphoria with body dysphoria, like anorexia, everyone agrees that it's best understood as an illness that needs to be cured, rather then an identity that should be protected.
Neither comparison is justified though. Different categories are different, and need to be argued on their own basis, not by analogy to completely different things.
@Dezzy
I Dunoo, regardless of your own personal beliefs (and I got some very controversial ones) I think it makes sense that a company like Microsoft wouldn't want to associate themselves with him.
I'm not hating on Notch ( Or Supporting Him), I remember he was a small influence on my life during my Minecraft days , but I do support free speech and freedom of expression which protects people like us. (Unless you're in a different country of course)
If anything I like it when people can speak exactly what they think, life would be boring without it, i.e. this article wouldn't exist.
I'm sure he'll find some ethnic group to blame for this happening, don't worry.
This is amazing thanks to this we’ve achieved world peace! Woohoo!
Problem here is he created the game. No amount of misleading name removal will change that fact. By doing what they did they just made it more known.
This is just childish behaviour. The game was made by the guy, don't try to hide it just because you think his opinions are trash.
This is the kind of Disney thinking that leads to Michael Jacks on music being renamed to Mr. Jefferson.
Your favourite artists and designers can have garbage worldviews. They still created the thing you love...deal with it.
@Dezzy hello again.
gender dysphoria is not classified as a mental illness.
rather, it is health condition that is treated with hormone replacement therapy and/or other medical procedures.
I'm kind of an expert on the subject, due to it being my life experience and all?
but this is also supported by the World Health Organization and the American Psychiatric Association.
@NIN10DOXD thanks, boo
@Charlie_Girl
I didn't say it was. I was responding to NIN10DOXD who was comparing it to skin color, by showing that you can't just draw analogies between things, because a different analogy would lead you to a completely different conclusion.
But also, the medical classifications given to whether something is a disorder or a condition, are almost entirely arbitrary. It was considered a 'disorder' in the DSM4, and they only changed it very recently, mostly due to political pressure (not due to science).
These classifications are largely useless. The DSM also classifies sexual fetishes as a kind of disorder. Which seems incredibly dumb to me.
Didn't know I was walking in a Comment's war. Let us "lighten" the mood! ........................... I got nothing.
@Charlie_Girl
"I'm kind of an expert on the subject, due to it being my life experience and all?."
Argument from authority is a logical fallacy.
"...but this is also supported by the World Health Organization and the American Psychiatric Association."
That's better, as long as it's true.
@amiiboacid
Based Notch
TF did I just read?^^^
What exactly has Notch said to warrant this?
Twitter shenanigans aside I don't care for the precedent it sets for future creators, that a person's name can be removed from their art if the publisher they sell it to dislikes them. If little kids are prowling around twitter they're already going to see a storm of politics with or without Notch around.
Obviously, he still appears in the credits, but this was still the main way he was credited to anyone playing the game. It's not like most players ever see those credits anyways.
The latest update to Minecraft has pretty much hosed performance on the Switch. There's a big thread over at Mojang's support forum about it.
Maybe if they concentrated on that rather than worrying about being associated with a so-called controversial figure (if that indeed be the case; I don't believe anything the media says nowadays, including you guys, sorry)...it ain't gonna change the fact that he created it in the first place. Deal.
See @Kal_ ? They show their true colors eventually.
@Charlie_Girl
Gender dysphoria used to be a recognized mental desease before the LGBTABCEFG pressured doctors to declassify it.
@PaulDuran
Which one? Dezzy, Charlie-Girl, Notch, or Soldier 76?
(hahaaaa gaay joke funeeeee)
IM more impressed how they patched the bugs in 1.9 by making it even more unstable.
@Dezzy Gender dysphoria and transgendeism actually aren't the same thing though transgender people can experience gender dysphoria. The reclassification wasn't purely political, but due to a broader understanding of gender and it's meaning across different cultures, making it far more complicated than just sex.
good. he's an arsehole.
sucks to see transphobia here.
edit/side note: inb4 comments are locked. y'all really blaming this on "being a conservative is frowned upon!!!" and not the fact he's a terrible person with some horribly backwards views
the identities of trans people are not up for "debate"
In an attempt to continue appreciating him as an artist, I made a point to stay away from his Twitter account. I’ve only ever read a couple of nasty things from him that I disagree with so this doesn’t phase me in any way.
@Inkling
Transphobia? Really? Please provide evidence of messages here displaying irrational fear towards transgender people.
And you don’t decide what is up for debate.
@StevenG
I do, and those that deny having terrible urges are the worst kind of monsters, they're the ones that deny doing terrible thing even as they're caught red handed. I am a monster, but at least I own up to it.
@PaulDuran
being gay and being trans are two different things.
and hi, trans person here:
no our the validity of our existences is not up for debate, discourse, critique, or "whatabout-isms."
being judgemental, dismissive, glib, or otherwise spiteful of a trans person's experiences? pretty transphobic.
(also the statement [seen above] "the LGBTABCEFG pressured doctors to declassify it" is pretty disparaging, as it mocks the LGBTQ acronym.)
@Inkling thank you
@Charlie_Girl the stuff people are saying here is a real shame. never thought a Nintendo site would be this bad!
@Inkling welcome to the radioactive heat death of my life
This community never ceases to disappoint me. Defending a racist transphobe, amazing. What, do you think he'll invite you to his mansion or something? Flip off.
And shame on anyone thinking the identities of trans people are just there for you to ""debate"", such blinding ignorance and bigotry. So stupid. This guy's awful, and you're awful if you defend him. End of story.
@5ony ❤
@5ony
While I don't condone Notch's views, I also don't approve of simply calling people names and then assuming the moral high ground, while simultaneously trying to stop any further discussion. Anything is open for debate, ANYTHING. Even whether you can debate something is up for debate.
We never got anywhere in life by tolerating others opinions(Because those that say they are tolerant are the least tolerant). Stop thinking you're better than everybody because you're not and neither am I.
@Charlie_Girl
Also , I just gotta say it. You are the most toxic (For lack of better words) person on this site. Every single article, EVERY SINGLE ONE, you somehow find a way to turn it into politics, or genders, or if something is sexist. I will defend your right to free speech to death, but with everything in life there is a possibility that something goes wrong.
YOU ARE CONSTANTLY debating others, on sometimes petty things(PIRANHA PLANT"S GENDER? OK.), and then you (sometimes, not always) play the victim. You are literally what's wrong with every comment thread. Honestly, you are helping no one but yourself. Stop before it's too late. Call me a hypocrite, or a bigot, or sexist or whatever you want. I don't care.
But hey, you don't have to listen to me. Like you even would.
@Kal_
when a real living person says "stop debating the validity of my existence because it is dehumanizing," then IT'S TIME TO STOP.
@Charlie_Girl
Sorry, that's not how the real world works.
@Kal_ THANK YOU. Finally someone said it.
y'all see this thread?
like, the entire thread?
this is why Microsoft is distancing themselves from Notch. because of discourse like this.
@Charlie_Girl
I state a fact, and then you accuse me of questioning your humanity. Where did you draw “humanity” from? Stop playing a victim.
Edit: Post no longer makes sense since Charlie edited his or her post.
@5ony the attitudes here are concerning to say the least. sucks tbh, i thought this site and its community were chill, not transphobic
@5ony creating your own narrative and carrying on a conversation with yourself? That's delusion or dementia, if you're not of age to keep up with the discussion at least avoid the disservice of giving us a script. K, thanks.
@Inkling stop trying to fuel the fire.
Go cry elsewhere if a few facts hurt your feelings.
A simple article about lines of text being removed turns into " omg notch is transphobic thats why". You people always HAVE to shoehorn your agendas into every single comment section don't ya?
People like Inkling and Charlie should just find a safespace anywhere else if they're so easily offended. Grow up!
Doeasn't matter if Creator of game is a BIG DI..K, Still, he create this game and he's name should stay inside the game. Now Microsoft is a di..k.
@Charlie_Girl If you would collect yourself before you post you wouldn’t need to go back and edit out extreme words like “humanity”.
@oatmaster You could just up your son's soy dose and that should even things out.
@CrazyMetroid did you really just "facts don't care about your feelings" me
transphobia is not facts
this is literally an article based around notch being removed likely due to his racist/transphobic twitter rants
@Sandro89 oh yeah for sure i'm offended, offended that this site's community can be this abhorrent with regards to trans people
for a site i've frequented for years at this point it's incredibly disappointing to see
One last thing and then I'm done for the day:
Grow up.
It's that simple. Ok, no it's not. Truth is anything worthwhile in life takes hard work. The real world is harsh and doesn't care if you live or die. The system is designed for you to learn how to listen to authority, get a job, pay taxes (Because running a country costs alot of dough), buy products you don't need, and then die.
Victimhood is a dangerous ideology as you'll never feel safe. You'll never trust others. And you'll never feel like the good ol' days, when life was simpler. And then nothing ever changes because you never change. It becomes a perpetual, self-fulfilling cycle of loneliness, resentment, and depression. Stop it.
Grow Up.
If something sucks, do something else other than complain. Take up a hobby (gaming) or drawing or something. Be productive and take risks. Always ask yourself if you can be better than you were yesterday. You should never be ok with who you are, because everyone can be better.
Go read a book. Like Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy, that's a good one.
Peace.
"Grow Up.
If something sucks, do something else other than complain."
the irony.
@Charlie_Girl
vous aussi
Haha, this comment section is a complete wreck. Usually gaming sites have a rule against controversial subjects like this because it has no place in video games. I see.
I popped in to see if the comments section had turned into the flaming turd I expected, and sure enough, it has.
😂@people not catching on to charlie and inkling being reeesetera bots / Titania McGrath impersonators.
@Agriculture yes, very good. I suppose the approach with your children is to just put them on the Internet and see what happens.
@oatmaster No, that's dangerous to put a child in a computer, I've seen what happened in Tron.
Wow, there's some stonecold hate speech floating around in here, and the number of likes some of the comments are getting is legit terrifying.
@Charlie_Girl I could not agree more.
This thread has definitely proven me right, tho.
@oatmaster
Nope.
Should comments be disabled on these kinds of articles?
@TheDanslator Viewpoints that differ from yours are hate speech?
So many edgy 14-year olds. I don't care if this guy is a casual racist/homophobe. But he's built himself up as an icon to youth (and has a ton of young followers) being a hateful bigot online with that kind of following is like being one of those wierdos who expose themselves to kids on the playground.
@PaulDuran it so has. You couldn't script a better example than this thread of what I'm trying to avoid my son turning in to. This is what happens when boys are given unfettered access to the Internet before they've got a proper grounding in critical thinking.
The four types of people in the comment section here.
I know which one I am.
@R_Champ The world is full of religious schools for children, so I don't think you're obligated to follow a particular set of ideas or ideology because you're dealing with kids. If anything, most parents around the world tend to get angry if you're on the side of trans people, so the existence of any kind of debate must be better for trans people than if no debate existed.
@oatmaster
So you want to teach them critical thinking by denying them access to the biggest information source of the planet...
@Sandro89 once again, not what I said. It's clearly not done your critical thinking much good. Go back and re-read and see if I said denying access.
@NIN10DOXD
Can you explain how a "broader understanding of gender" informed the decision to change the classification.
I'm not aware of how any scientific facts have affected that, because I don't think it was ever a scientific classification at all.
@shaneoh We are human beings capable of choices that may label us as monsters. Deep down it's up to ourselves to ourselves to be a 'monster' or not.
@Dezzy Sociology and Psychology are often intertwined and are sciences. Gender while sometimes associated with sex here isn't done universally. Mentality and chemical/physical are considered separate things and more Psychologists have decided that gender should not be considered as most dictionaries even give them different definitions. Dysphoria is a discomfort not the actual transgenderism itself.
@oatmaster
“This is what happens when boys are given unfettered access to the Internet before they've got a proper grounding in critical thinking.”
For one, there’s no way that you know the ages of everyone here and when they were exposed to the internet. Why? Because it is your opinion. Not a fact. I’m not inherently disagreeing with you, but the evidence doesn’t make sense.
I for one (and I don’t think I am alone in this) was exposed to the internet very early, and I was bombarded with views contrary to my family and I still hold 99% of my immediate family’s beliefs (which wasn’t even a result of the internet). Over time, I found just as many people who held my beliefs and made them more appealing.
@PaulDuran well I was exposed to the early Internet so I win.
@PaulDuran but on a more serious note, it's more about bad information rather than differing opinions. What would you describe as yours and your family's beliefs and did they let you go on the Internet without any control?
Just here for the comments
How about we keep video games fun and politics/social issues out of them? Video games are supposed to be an escape from the hell that is modern society.
@oatmaster
This was originally way longer, and nobody cares about how I found my politics so simply put:
Raised a Conservative, Chose to be a Conservative
As a matter of fact, they didn’t want me on chat rooms, but that was because they didn’t want me to be groomed.
Oh and then there’s porn.
I mean, as long as they're not entirely removing crediting him, I'm cool. No matter what you disagree or agree with him on, he MADE minecraft and minecraft is one of the most impactful video games maybe ever, so he should get credit for it
@iLikeUrAttitude Those aren't mutually exclusive concepts.
@TheDanslator Exactly, so don't label the opinions above hate speech when it's clearly not.
@iLikeUrAttitude I'm not. Just the ones that clearly are.
@TheDanslator Well the way your comment was worded it could've been easily misinterpreted that you were referring to most of the people above, especially because they had a different viewpoint.
Also I didn't see any comments expressing "hate speech". You probably going to have to be more specific about that as well.
@iLikeUrAttitude If you can't see it I can't help you.
@TheDanslator I can't help you either nor convince you if think that way then.
@iLikeUrAttitude If by convince me, you mean that the hate speech I've witnessed actually isn't? Then yeah, I probably wouldn't waste the time if I were you.
@Trajan tell that to the Charlie dude. Always turning things into that
@shaneoh that would be profound if you were 12.
@Mew he sold it. Microsoft can do anything they want to the credits page.
Minecraft isn't an influential game, it's a lazy block building game. The original code was awful, and the whole thing is just a fad.
@StevenG
Then it was a good thing I was going for accuracy rather than profundity.

Long fad.
@amiiboacid "He called transgender people "absolutely evil.""
And? Free speech, man. I don't think they're evil (mentally unwell, perhaps), but that doesnt mean I'm going to sit around getting offended by someone's personal opinion on it. Why should anyone care?
If you think objectively, you might realize that openly espousing views that are extremely pro-trans could be viewed as offensive to those who find it morally repugnant. Just because that view doesn't align with yours, it doesn't mean that it's inherently or objectively wrong. Right?
Now, if the guy was going out and beating up trans people, threatening them or their families, destroying their property, or doing things of that nature, I would definitely have a problem with that. I don't have a problem with people stating their opinions on social media. I mean, no one's forcing anyone to read what he or anyone else writes. It's not really that difficult to block, unfriend, or unfollow people who have views that aren't to your liking.
That having been said: the point is moot because - in the end - he sold the property to Microsoft so they can therefore do basically anything they want with it. I might think it's dumb and reactionary, but it's their call, not mine.
