I truly believe No Man’s Sky is a major achievement not only for video games but for tech in general. To have a fully explorable simulated universe is nothing short of incredible.
That being said, man do I wish I could’ve played this as a kid. The sense of wonder and mystery would’ve been unparalleled. But now as an adult, I know that all of the planets are just pulling from a list of possible characteristics and features and there’s nothing really “unique” to be found. Though that’s usually how it is with procedurally generated games: as wide as an ocean, as deep as a puddle.
@N00BiSH This. I believe they shot themselves on the foot with the screenshots. That’s why it takes so damn long to get any meaningful OSTs added, and why we have a bunch of NES games that, let’s be honest, no one is putting in their playlists
A simple world filter would do wonders. Just let us block anything with “Hentai” or “Ecchi” or whatever else these AI companies are churning out these days. There’s literally no reason not to have this feature. Are they worried people are gonna block “Mario” or something?
Thank you for the article Liam! I have shared it with the community and we’re all immensely grateful for the exposure!
One of my own games also made an appearance in the Direct, it’s the 3D Kirby that briefly shows up at the “Recent Highlights” bit. Here’s the code if anyone would like to check it out: G 006 FRX LLY
Also, if anyone would like to discover more amazing games from the community, consider visiting gbgShop, it’s our new platform for sharing games, including all of those featured in the Direct.
@PikminMarioKirby I’m genuinely curious here, why would this hurt Nintendo’s “core audience”? She looks close enough to Zelda, and even if she’s not that knowledgeable about the games that’s not a requirement for a quality performance
Hopefully they’ll give the Lego Worlds idea another shot. That game was such a missed opportunity for a Lego game that’s actually focused on building and creativity
Genuinely devastating news. I got some of my favourite games on the Switch for free thanks to the gold points. Downwell, Steamworld Heist, Portal. This is seriously a baffling move from Nintendo
Okay now it really feels like everyone’s just piggybacking off of one design. Who’s to say half of these accessory companies aren’t just making these models based on the last few leaks because they know it will get them attention.
To be honest this feels like a clear downgrade to the game feel, but if gets them safe while they work on a better alternative then it’s understandable
I’ve actually had an idea for a while on how it could work. Basically have the top screen be the main one with the bottom screen being displayed in a Picture in Picture style.
What sets it apart is that you would be able to move the bottom screen around with the right stick, and pressing it in would switch which one is bigger.
It’s not perfect, but I actually think it could work really well for games where the bottom screen is just complimentary for the top one. Additionally, touch controls would be handled with the gyroscope and the trigger button when in TV mode.
They just kinda gave up on adding more DLCs to the service huh, and it doesn’t help that one of the inclusions is for an outdated game that barely anyone will buy
Microsoft does seem to be on its way to drop out of the console market. I just hope we get a new competitor who can keep Sony’s scummy practices in check, whoever that ends up being.
Reminder that this is a country that executes gay people. I’m opposed to any government owning shares in game companies, but this one is especially iffy.
Like it or not, the Type 1 / Type 2 thing is good PR for a game, why else would companies have it? Especially Nintendo, which has never been one to care for “social issues”.
Really good news, especially since some of the companies that have always been considered “the good ones” are starting to cave in to AI slop (looking at you Level5)
@dew12333 Except a computer can’t imagine, it’s fundamentally unable to (at least with the tech we have now). All it can do is rearrange the various elements from the content it has consumed in order to best match the prompt it was given. No imagination involved.
@shgamer I’d say that the main problem with a lot of modern AAA is that they’re trying to be movies rather than games. They spend so much time and effort crafting “Cinematic” and “Immersive” experiences that they often forget games are supposed to be fun first and foremost.
And while I disagree with the idea that games aren’t art, I do believe there’s a great deal of unexplored potential when it comes to conveying an artistic vision through gameplay.
It’s kinda crazy seeing Golf finally be added to NSO so many years after the Switch’s launch, when it was found hidden in the system’s code, only to then be removed in an update. We’ve come full circle.
The possession mechanic seems to have Super Mario Odyssey written all over it, and if it plays anything like that game I’m sure it’s an amazing experience! I’ll definitely have to check it out, any Odyssey-like is an instant buy for me.

She did a great job as Bayo. I’d love for her to return in a sequel with a more inspired narrative.

Blasphemous as it may sound I genuinely believe Astro Bot is better than every 3D Mario game… except for Odyssey. Odyssey was a cultural reset

I don’t think they will even bother suing this as it’s clearly not a game that actually exists, just a bunch of surprisingly convincing AI junk.
