Re: Nintendo Debuts Two Metroid Prime 4 Ads As Eight-Year Wait Nears Its End

@Hawkes142 I hope I like it and it’s not going to stop me from playing. She’s already got a spaceship that would be great to fly around in and failing that, I’m not against a jet pack or something. I would say that nobody likes change, but clearly from the comments here, that’s not true if the change is a cool manga motorbike.

I do wish they’d make her smoke like Duke Nukem or Solid Snake. Maybe a pipe. Now that would make her look cool.

Re: Nintendo Shares Updated Figures For Registered Accounts And Switch Online Members

I definitely think the number of online subscriptions could be much higher. I cancelled mine, not because of the price, but because the online experience was pretty bad.

Then they made it a two tier package (three tiers if you consider that Switch 2 has exclusive content) so it’s also pretty confusing as to what you get for your money. “Online Expansion Pack” is meaningless.

Just charge me one price and make the online connection solid and I’d subscribe without a second thought.

Re: Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Update Announced, Here Are The Patch Notes

This comment section is a hive of gaslighting. If you don’t use the games in the same way as those affected, then that’s great. Enjoy your gaming.

But what if your main is Scorpion and you only wanted to play UMK3? That’s a pretty big deal breaker if the game reboots with every fatality! They’re not “so called issues”, because they exist and will dampen the experience for a few. Online was clearly a mess at launch, which all of the reviews alluded to.

Personally I would like to see games released without dozens of bugs, just as they generally used to. It’s not at all fair to use your paying customers as free game testers.

@Pillowpants “ My biggest issue with the app is the lack of credit for the songwriters/composers, or a way to listen to their work. It would be awesome to have a Koji Kondo list, or something.”

Mine too. Even if the dubious issue of it being normal Japanese culture is true, it would still be a joy to be able to dive into someone’s career without having to do all the googling for yourself.

Re: Nintendo On Why The Mario Kart World Album Isn't Available For Nintendo Music

Well, it’s a rare event that I find myself sticking up for Nintendo’s comments these days, but I’ve been a professional sound engineer for nearly 30 years and my log has something to say about this. It’s not simply a case of uploading your folder of tracks to a server and adding a link to the app.

If you want to do it properly and without AI, it is the kind of tediously slow work that makes you grind your teeth and question what you’re doing with your life. Plus how big is the team doing that work? Two people strong maybe? And is it a priority for Nintendo to get their entire music catalogue uploaded as a free side-perk for subscribers by the end of the week?

@Truegamer79 “ Remember when extra content was unlocked for free in game? Pepperidge farm Remembers”

One of the many reasons I love Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. The unlockable content in those games was immense and worthwhile. The reward of unlocking new levels etc. gave you the incentive to keep playing.

Now we just get a patronisingly useless slap on the back in the form of “achievements”.

Re: Poll: How Many New Games Do You Buy In A Year?

HingryHuppo

I rarely buy brand new games at full retail price. TOTK would be the last time I did that and only because it was heavily discounted to preorder.

Now that prices have risen to the realm of silly (or completely reasonable if you consider inflation, as some people have told me) I’m given the opportunity to focus on my backlog, which I’m really enjoying.

@Friendly “ which ‘content and features’ are hidden behind an amiibo?”

Yeah, the ones you mention were what I had specifically in mind. I especially dislike that the fast travel feature was amiibo locked in skyward sword. It kind of takes some joy out of the game for me.

There is at least one Nintendo console game I can think of that had micro ransactions. Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball. That one even had a mechanic where you had to haggle the prices of the micro transactions, so some players paid more than others! Nintendo Pocket Football Club also hid some features behind a pay wall, You got more training sessions if you coughed up extra cash and those training sessions really do make the game less of a grind, although that was just published by Nintendo.

And yes I agree that Nintendo have a ways to go to stoop to the level of EA!

Re: Poll: So, Did You Get Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 For Switch?

HingryHuppo

@Friendly “ how many micro transactions and gamble lootboxes does Nintendo have in their games?”

Animal crossing: pocket camp, fire emblem heroes, Mario Kart tour all have gacha … Their console games hide content and features behind Amiibo purchases, which isn’t strictly micro transaction, but amounts to the same thing.

On top of that, it’s getting much more common for them to hold back ready made content for DLC. Bananza, which is already a pretty short experience, asks for another $20 to unlock the full game.

I can definitely understand why some people see their current strategies as anti consumer and cynical.

@Olmectron “ All of those shops that closed down still let you redownload games you bought before the closure.”

True, but as you say, you need to have already purchased them and in most cases you have to use the console you purchased them from.

I’m currently playing the Konami ReBirth Wiiware games that I missed out on first time around. If they were still available to buy, I’d gladly have bought them, but sadly my choice is piracy, or not to ever experience them. It’s sad that games of this quality can’t be enjoyed by new generations.

@Kingy “ Using Nintendo alone as an example, the Wii Shop Channel, DSI store, and the Wii U & 3DS eshop have all been shut down. Every game on them is GONE and many of them have no alternative options”

Despite his belief that digital games can’t be illegally copied, all of those roms you mention have been dumped and are out in the wild. The unfortunate thing is that piracy is usually the only option to obtain digital only games once their stores have shut down.
