Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Crysis Remastered On Switch

Highlar

What I think is funny, is the naysayers from the previous Crysis article, who were all about "Just wait until DF gets ahold of this! They are going to tear it apart! Mwahahaha!" And...well...now we have that Digital Foundry piece...and it sounds like the game, despite some flaws (and promised patches to fix them)...run and looks quite well on the Switch, is a big improvement over the previous console entries (which was another thing the almost anti-Switch crowd was saying, it would be worse than or the same as the PS3 port), and is definitely the Crysis Remastered version that's been promised. It was even recommended by DF as something to play on Switch now! So I'm really curious what the
"Switch is underpowered and sucks!" crowd will have to say now, after this DF recommendation.

Re: Donkey Kong Country Swings Onto The Switch Online SNES Library Next Week

Highlar

While I'm excited for DKC...for me, The Immortal is where its at. I remember it as being BRUTALLY difficult when I was kid, and I can't wait to give it another go...maybe actually be able to get much of anywhere in it, too, with the rewind and save states. lol...For a NES game it looks great...plays great...and is a ton of difficult fun.

Re: TiMi Studios Describes Pokémon Unite As An 'Unprecedented Opportunity And Challenge'

Highlar

I seriously think that if this was shown last week as a part of the last Pokemon direct, and Snap was saved for this week, this reveal would have gone completely differently. In my opinion, a lot of the hate seems to be coming from jilted expectations that the TPC set up, which is really their fault.

As to the game itself, it looks like a lot of fun to me. And it changes up the classic "MOBA" formula by going for high scores rather than just kills. I've quite enjoyed MOBA style games when I've played them before like SMITE and Arena of Valor (a little of the latter, but it ran horribly on Switch). I've tried to get my girls into them to team up and play with me, with no luck till now...but they will play pretty much anything with Pokemon in the title, so now maybe I finally can get them to join me. It looks like it could be a lot of fun, and have some depth to it. I'm interested to learn more.

Re: Slime-San Creator Announces Demon Turf - A New 3D Platformer Coming To Switch

Highlar

For those saying it looks a bit janky, I watched the whole thing on IGN Summer of Games, and they said upfront that this is just an alpha build to show people the kinds of things they are doing with the game. Lots of time still to go before it gets released to improve animation, etc. Personally, I really enjoy the art style although I can certainly see how it won't be everyone's favorite. This could be quite promising!

Re: Nintendo President Says More Switch Games Are Scheduled For Current Period

Highlar

I'm sorry, but this sounds a bit like "damage control" to me on Nintendo's part. As much as I love the company and my Switch, if they were still planning things as if they were "on schedule" then Nintendo WOULD have something planned for the usual E3 time-frame reveals, as it appears many other companies are doing. Or Nintendo would have said SOMETHING else by now about anything coming in the later half of the year. As it stands, the last big real game by Nintendo (not talking about third-party companies here...just Nintendo) is really Xenoblade Chronicles. DLC for Pokemon is nice, but it and Clubhouse Games aren't exactly huge, big-name, first-party releases. I think what concerns Switch owners about Nintendo is that they have been pretty much totally silent since the last mini-Direct. NO usual Spring direct, no word from the company on what they have cooking...heck, we consumers I think would be happy even knowing WHAT games they DID have planned for release this year but that might be getting pushed back due to the current work environment, much like the way Animal Crossing got pushed back. We want to know SOMETHING rather than just a big, black, gaping hole for the rest of the years information, after June. Nintendo's PR department started off the Switch GREAT...and kept it going...until this year. Even news of delays would be GOOD news, because it would be ANY news. I think that's the frustration with Nintendo right now....they aren't saying ANYTHING.

Re: DOOM Eternal Producer Shares id's Side Of The Story After Composer Severs All Ties

Highlar

@arekdougy
From the article above:
"Finally, Mick was concerned that we’d given Chad co-composer credit – which we did not do and would never have done. In the metadata, Mick is listed as the sole composer and sole album artist. On tracks edited by id, Chad is listed as a contributing artist. That was the best option to clearly delineate for fans which tracks Mick delivered and which tracks id’s Lead Audio Designer had edited. It would have been misleading for us to attribute tracks solely to Mick that someone else had edited."
It doesn't necessarily say so outright, but I took it as sounding like Mick wanted full and sole credit for the score...which is not the case. He WAS listed as main composer, and Chad as contributing, which is as it should be...as that is what happened. Maybe the quoted part is up for interpretation, but that's the way I took it.

Re: DOOM Eternal Producer Shares id's Side Of The Story After Composer Severs All Ties

Highlar

Reading through the whole thing above, I would have to say the fault here lies with Mick. He couldn't meet agreed upon deadlines. After the first deadline miss, ID was well within its rights to withhold the timeline bonus, but were generous enough to offer it at the end of the extension. Which the composer AGAIN did not meet. Also...if you read the whole thing...Mick never even met his actual contractual obligations of a minimum of 12 tracks (when he said he would be able to deliver 30 tracks). Instead, he delivered 9...then 2 more...before the OST had to be released. Not only did he not meet any of the deadlines he agreed upon, but he never even fulfilled the full MINIMUM for the contract. It sounds like ID tried to give him as much time as they could...and even offered assistance from Chad...and Mick wanted full and SOLE credit for a collaboration that he SUGGESTED. This is all really highly unprofessional.

Re: Feature: The Best Nintendo Switch Music And Rhythm Games

Highlar

I'm with those wondering where Old School Musical is...it should certainly be on this list. The soundtrack is GREAT, and the gameplay is a ton of fun. The remixed chicken rpg bonus with the extra effects on the game is great fun too. Going to have to check out some of the other games on this list. I think one of the reasons I don't have more of them already is price...a lot of these are some seriously pricey games...and I just don't know if I can pay $40 or more for a rhythm game (as much as I enjoy them) when there are others I can get into more for the same price (namely RPG's).

Re: Atari's Arcade Classic Pong Comes To Switch As An RPG

Highlar

I guess I'm in the minority here on this one, because I think this looks like it could actually be fun. Its obviously a budget title, and the price shown above of $15 verifies that. If the dialogue between pong characters is good, this could be a fun little diversion title for me. (Although with tax time, my backlog is massive now with new games bought but not played yet.)

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Nintendo Direct Mini?

Highlar

@NintenDan_
This is something I find a bit bizarre-seeming coming from commenters. You get people who say "we need more third parties on Switch! Nintendo, go court third parties and get their big games on the system!" So...Nintendo seems to listen...pulls back a bit on their own games...and hands the first part of the year in a big way to third parties (except for AC:NH...which is amazing). And instead of happiness, we get from some "What?? Why all the third party games? We don't want those...where are the big first party titles Nintendo???" I mean...I know you can't please everyone...but this just kind of grates on me a little. Not that I think you were saying this, mind...just your comment brought it up to myself.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Contains A New Epilogue Story, Launches In May

Highlar

@ottospooky
I was just about to post something similar. The looks of the "shoulder" area...those flying whale fish things with the wings, etc...it all had (to me at least) a strong feel of XCX. And with the name of the epilogue content being "Future Connected"..it makes me wonder if this epilogue story is, in some way, a bridge between XC and XCX, showing that XCX is...indeed...a continuation from XC, as well as XC2?

Re: Buying BioShock, Borderlands Or XCOM Physically? Expect Huge Download Requirements

Highlar

@Mountain_Man
I was just checking these out on the eShop upcoming releases. They have the whole Bioshock Collection...but they also have each game independently. Also, with Borderlands, they have the Legendary collection, and then Borderlands GotY Edition on its own, and the Handsome collection (Borderlands 2 and Pre-Sequel) as 2 separate purchases if you wish. Xcom 2 is just all one big bundle of game and a ton of DLC, it looks like. So...if you just want Borderlands 1 and Bioshock 1, you can just get those 2 and none of the others if you don't want (or so it looks like so far from what the eShop is showing).

Re: Random: Bandai Namco Twitter Account Complains About Animal Crossing, Tweet Quickly Deleted

Highlar

@Archius9
Really? I have been quite enjoying Witcher 3 whenever I load it up. I almost never use potions, and about the only magic spells I ever use (unless pretty much forced to) are the shield and fire blast. And even then I sometimes forget to pop the shield on and just go in swinging and dodging. So I wouldn't say you are "forced" to use them in combat, per se.

As to the topic of the article, if you know that's how the game is going in, and you don't like the sound of it...then don't buy/play it. No on is forcing them to play OR enjoy AC:NH. We have 3 Switch systems here, and I bought 3 copies of the game, because we all wanted out own islands and to be able to visit each other online or locally. But that was my choice...I could have just bought the one copy and we all play together, but chose not to go that route. My personal opinion on the game? Its a relaxing masterwork in how to waste time in a peaceful, soothing (and even competitive) world. Also...the online connection seems to run perfectly for us. The coming and going load screens are a bit meh in the way they interrupt play...but once you are all together its smooth as butter, running around together, hunting down bugs....fishing...harvesting supplies. Its so much FUN in such a simple seeming package.

Re: Talking Point: Jargon-Heavy Xbox Series X And PS5 Reveals Vindicate Nintendo's Approach

Highlar

@TheNewButler
And I would say that was exactly the problem with it...and why its getting so many negative comments. Yes, we all know it was the GDC thing for developers and the tech side of the industry...but that's exactly the problem with Sony's "road to PS5" presentation when released to the GENERAL PUBLIC. It should have been changed up some...edited...etc. to make it more interesting for the average person to absorb. Yes, this kind of thing is fine and expected for GDC and developers...NOT so much for the general public to try and figure out. Average Joe doesn't really understand SSD, teraflops, RAM pipelines, etc. The average person looks at a video presentation from a company and says "Okay...now advertise this to me...ENTICE me to be interested in and buy your product!"...and Sony's presentation did NOT do that. While the speaker was VERY knowledgeable about what he was talking about...he sounded so monotone...so deliberate...it may have had just the OPPOSITE of that...turned people OFF from the Sony presentation rather than on. Audience is important when showing off things like this, something that Nintendo knows very well from its Directs, and even Microsoft is picking up on with how its handling the XsX reveals. Sony is failing hard in this aspect.

Re: The First Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update Gifts Players A Nintendo Switch

Highlar

@Joe-b

I preordered our copies from Gamestop. They didn't do any kind of an early release, but they are supposed to be doing a midnight launch of the game. I'm going to call tomorrow to make sure it is still happening, though, just to be safe, and if so I'll head right there after work (I get off a little after 10pm) and just wait to pick up my copies.

Re: No Man's Sky Dev Hello Games Is Bringing The Last Campfire To Switch This Summer

Highlar

I got NMS on my PS4 years ago. I haven't played it in quite a while, so I'm sure if I installed it back it would have massive updates. However, this is the part of the blurb above that caught my eye:

FROM A SMALL STUDIO
A unique tale from Hello Games and the creative minds behind LostWinds.

Am I the only one that remembers LostWinds?? The game was a real treat and pleasure back on the Wii. This game reminds me more of that than NMS. I was very interested by this when I watched the Direct. Can't wait to see more!

Re: Review: Animal Crossing: New Horizons - An Accessible And Addictive Masterpiece

Highlar

Wow... 6 100% reviews out of 29 on metacritic so far. And the lowest score is still an 80%. It sounds like this is just exactly the kind of game Nintendo needed to release right now to get people excited about the Switch and what's to come...and give us something to sink our time into while waiting for everything else. I cannot wait for Friday...now I really may have to consider going to the midnight launch that our local Gamestop is having for the game. lol

Re: Nintendo Announces Indie World Showcase For Tomorrow

Highlar

Maybe its already been said up in the messages, but this could be a good sign. Remember, the rumor recently was 2 Directs (an Indie showcase and regular Direct) by the end of the month. This is the first of those two rumors being confirmed. So...this gives me hope that a regular Direct will follow next within the next couple of weeks...hopefully next week...because the sooner the better! I want some solid info on XC:DE dang nabbit! That's the only pre-order I have left (as AC will be out in a few days, and My Hero Academia: One's Justice 2 collector's edition has already been picked up).

Re: Ubisoft "Exploring Other Options" As E3 2020 Closes Its Doors

Highlar

Well, I've already got the week put in for vacation. The last few years I've always taken E3 week off (monday - friday) to just sit and soak in the various gaming related news. So, I HOPE there's going to still be reveals and info, etc. From Nintendo and all other gaming companies that want to still get out their end of the year gaming info. My hope is that Nintendo does their Direct, and still does the Treehouse Live, maybe from Treehouse itself? That's the main thing I've watched during E3 since it started being broadcast. But I kept in tune to other streams like IGN, etc, as well. This is going to be a sad year for me if nothing gets done during that week.

Re: The First Animal Crossing: New Horizons Review Is In, And It Might Surprise You

Highlar

Crazy me took my tax check and my daughters to Gamestop. Big mistake. lol... We ended up walking out with 3 fully paid for pre-orders for AC:NH. We know you can all play on the same screen together...but we each wanted our own islands for each other to visit. That was a day that hurt my wallet...but it will be pure joyful fun for all 3 of us. Can't wait for release day!

Re: The Company Responsible For E3 2020's Creative Direction Just Resigned

Highlar

I, for one, would be terribly disappointed if E3 ever were to be completely cancelled. Since I've started working, E3 week has become like a celebration to me. I put in for a full weeks worth of vacation (Monday - Friday) for E3 week. I tune in on multiple devices to watch the conferences, game interviews, gameplay demos, etc. My daughters hop onto the streams with me when they are here, and we all enjoy the news drops together. E3 week has always been a time of excitement, never knowing what news will drop at any time during the week. Seeing the excited crowds at E3...the lines of people all smiling and having such a great time sharing the love and enthusiasm for gaming and game news that I have...is always a truly special time of the year for me. E3 is the penultimate coming together of industry glitz and glamor. I for one would be very, very sad and disappointed if this community event is ever completely cancelled, and nothing steps up to take its place.

Re: Review: Warface - A Perfectly Competent Free-To-Play Shooter For Your Switch

Highlar

My daughters and I are having quite a good time playing this together. If you have local Switch users all playing around each other it automatically puts detected friends into a lobby together, making it very easy to select and invite each other into a group. The difficulty in PvE (which is all we've tried so far, over a couple of nights) ramps up heavily from the very first map to the second, but as you can play the maps over and over again, we just took some time to level up a bit in the first "practice" map and were eventually able to overcome the second. One small downside is "normal" and above maps are required to have more players, so we can't just take our private room with just 3 beyond the "easy" maps. So far, the classes all feel very different from each other (I like the SED, one daughter loves the sniper, and the other the medic), which is a good thing. So far we aren't really upset about skins being times (although that may change soon, as I'm sure they are going to want to have skins for themselves to just use). Except for the SED...which seems to only have the one base skin so far as I can tell. Matches are quick and easy to get into. The only problem I've had with the game so far is sometimes when you first login, the server list is actually not there, and you have to close and reload the game to get it up again. Or logging into the server may timeout once (and it has a lengthy timeout timer), but hitting it a second time seems to then log you straight in. Overall, with the closest competitor being Modern Combat: Blackout, as far as I can see, this is definitely the superior game and we are having quite a lot of fun with it so far.

Re: More Than 40% Of Switch Owners In The US Have Another Video Game System

Highlar

@Zimon
This is what I thought when I read the title and article above too. So yes...more than 40% of people own a PS4/Xbox and Switch...but the flip side of that is MORE THAN 50% OF PEOPLE ONLY OWN A SWITCH and neither of the other two systems. That's a pretty incredible figure I'd say, and could grow to even higher percentages if the sales of the Switch continue to hit the skies as they have been. And with heavy hitters like Bayonetta 3, Prime 4, AC: New Horizons, etc. still to come...and even more ports and other unannounced titles in the future...I think the lifespan of the Switch is going to be just fine.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Thinks The Switch Home Menu Is A "Piece Of Crap"

Highlar

I disagree that "its a piece of crap". Could the Switch UI use some QoL improvements like folders to better help organize things as you want? Sure. Is it a sluggish, hard to navigate "piece of crap"? Not at all. Jump to the all games folder, select a style of sorting your games (alphabetically, played time, developer, etc.), and it makes it pretty easy to find what you want down the list. It loads pretty quickly, and is quick to scroll down and find what you want. Would folders on the main menu itself make that faster? Sure. But it is far from a piece of crap menu. Other things that would be nice would be music in the background and themes to personalize my system...but I still enjoy how fast and efficient the home menu is on my day one Switch.

Re: Feature: Our Most Anticipated Nintendo Switch Games Of 2020

Highlar

I'm not sure how people can call that list "bad" or "bare bones". Sure, maybe not everything (or anything) on the list is for YOU, but that still makes for 20 possibly good-to-great games coming out in 2020...almost 2 a month...and that doesn't include that others mentioned like the Outer Worlds port and Bravely Default 2, and many other games that are already known about but didn't make this particular list. I don't know about others, but on a normal budget, there's no way I'll pick up more than 2 games a month AND be able to thoroughly enjoy each one...what with my Switch backlog ALREADY being huge. I still need to get Astral Chain and AC: The Rebel collection and several other games from THIS year (2019). Maybe you don't like the looks of all the games on that list, but that doesn't make it a BAD setup for next year. Its already shaping up to be another stellar year for Switch releases in my opinion, and I can't wait to hear what else is coming down the line in upcoming Directs, etc.

Re: Feature: Our Most Anticipated Nintendo Switch Games Of 2020

Highlar

@Shambo After seeing the Xenoblade Chronicles remake (which I'm ecstatic about), the next I dreamed of is a Fragile Dreams remaster. I still remember and think about that one from the Wii to this day. I think there are PLENTY of Wii games (especially late life games) that could do with remasters and sell pretty well, like The Last Story or Fragile Dreams or Madworld, etc.

Re: Co-Op Action-RPG Dauntless Launches Today On Switch

Highlar

I really don't understand those saying that Ramsgate is such a god-awful mess. Does it stutter every now and again? Sure...but it did that on my PS4 too sometimes. None of the game is all as "blurry" or as harsh as being made out by some. Is it lower res than a PS4 in 4K? Sure. Is it an unplayable mess? Absolutely not. The game runs just fine, the hunts are still just as fast and and flashy as they are on other systems. Is the game for everyone? Of course not. But saying its a blurry mess that runs like garbage is just not true.

Re: Co-Op Action-RPG Dauntless Launches Today On Switch

Highlar

@BenAV

This is one reason I love Dauntless: there's no real downside. It has a season pass like Fortnite or Paladins, so you can get more things if you sign on...but the whole game is open and free and you don't NEED to pay anything to enjoy it. I'm going to make my daughters get this too...finally...and hunt together with them. I've been looking forward to this day for a long time now (ever since it was first announced). I really enjoyed this so much on my PS4...but since I haven't turned it on in several months now (playing pretty much exclusively on my Switch these days)...I've been eagerly waiting on this to come out on Switch.

Re: Ninja Thinks Pro Players And Streamers Who Cheat Should Be Treated Differently

Highlar

Wow...talk about arrogant. "I have subscribers...so I'm more special than you are!" Even my 17yo daughters get how stupid and self-important his comments sound. They agree with me and the others on here who say that if this is your JOB...and you are making money from it...and you cheat...you should be treated MORE harshly! You are showcasing the job to your thousands or millions of subscribers, in essence promoting the game to your community. To then turn around and cheat in said game...even for fun...in order to make even more money off of it...is just wrong. You know you are breaking the rules...you know the consequences of doing so. You get caught...you pay the penalty.

To clarify a little...I disagree with those that say "gaming/content creators isn't a real job!". For those that truly make it big in this sphere, it really IS a job. They spend hours filming, editing, making content for others to enjoy. Its no different than TV or Hollywood productions, just on a smaller scale. BUT those that truly get into it to make a living out of it TREAT it as such. They take it seriously, and their audience seriously as well. They watch what "sells" on their channels, and shift and move accordingly to what their audiences want to see. It takes work. However, that does not in any way disagree with what I said above...if you are caught cheating, you pay the penalties. There is a TOS for a reason, whether you actually read it or not. And being a professional gamer, I would HOPE you read it and understood it to know what you are getting into. If there is a total zero tolerance policy for cheating, and the punishment is an account ban, then so be it. Get back to your channel, find another game your followers will enjoy you playing, and move on. Don't whine and complain about it. Do something about it. There have been plenty of other content creators who have had to do the same thing at one time or another.

Re: Review: Spirit Hunter: NG - A Spooky Setting Scuppered By Switch-Related Sluggishness

Highlar

Even with this slowdown problem, I'd still be willing to give this a shot. My daughters and I all played through Death Mark together...and even then made use of multiple save slots...and it was a terrific, horrific blast. The art style is fantastic, the stories disturbing. The conclusion...not sure if I was totally sold on how it all finally ended (after the included DLC chapter), but overall the game itself was great fun. We have all been eagerly waiting for this sequel to come out so we could dive back into its Japanese-based horror world.

Re: Review: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition - An Incredible Action-RPG Stands Strong On Switch

Highlar

Been playing this for a couple of hours now...and on my 55" tv in docked mode, at that. I must say, I don't think the graphics are all THAT bad. Also, with the way it looks, it kind of reminds me of the painterly look of Skyward Sword's graphics. It feels less...realistic, maybe...but also feels more like I'm running through a fantasy world. I'm quite enjoying it so far (apart from getting bugged right away in the initial combat tutorial...lol). Haven't tried it in handheld yet, but that will certainly be coming eventually. For now, docked mode seems just fine to me. Never played Witcher before, and I'm enjoying what I'm seeing so far!

Re: Mojang Cancels The Super Duper Graphics Pack For Minecraft

Highlar

@Spoony_Tech I don't think we could say definitively that its because of the Switch. Remember...the "Super Duper Graphics Pack" was to run under the Bedrock engine...the new version of Minecraft that has total parity between the major systems its played on. This means Xbox...Switch...PC (with the Win10 version, not Java)...tablet...mobile...etc. If anything was a bottleneck holding it back, I'd think it was more on the mobile/tablet front than Switch. Currently, the Switch version of Bedrock Minecraft looks and plays just fine. And that's including running around on the community driven "game" servers. You can get a little loading lag every now and again on those when first logging into them, but once in it always seems to run just fine to me...even with tons of players running around together.

Re: DC Universe Online Blasts Onto Switch Today For Free

Highlar

Okay...after trying the game on Switch...it runs GREAT. Looks good...runs smooth and fast... But there's one thing I've found so far that I DON'T like: chat is SEVERELY limited on a f2p account. You can send about 6 messages...then get slammed with a massive lockout from all chat after that. Also, voice chat is locked behind subs (although I guess that isn't as bad as the chat lock). This is just BAD design in an MMO, f2p or otherwise. Locking people out from communicating is just bad...period. I guess discord is where its at...AGAIN...since you can't just talk to everyone around you in the game (although the chat box works VERY well, when you can use it).

Re: DC Universe Online Blasts Onto Switch Today For Free

Highlar

Been eagerly awaiting this to come out since it was announced. I've played on the PS3 and PS4 (and even some on the PC, but I absolutely hate the mouse/keyboard combo controls for this game...controller all the way!). My daughters and I are all waiting for it to actually hit the eShop in a couple of hours so we can start downloading it. I know people like to complain about the f2p model that this uses (either a sub to get all content right away...or pay for different packs/episodes/powers), but I haven't minded it since several major MMO's went f2p with similar type models. You still get access to a ton of content for free, and if I want to go further, I can purchase the individual episodes that at the time tickle my fancy to do more story content...and then own it forever without having to worry about my sub lapsing and losing it all until I pay again. There are 6 powers upfront for free (2 of each "role"/class type), and you can purchase access to individual powers types after that if you want. I hope we aren't limited to just 2 characters, but I fear that will be the case and that's the only thing I don't like (though you can buy more character slots, which I'll probably be doing). We are all very much looking forward to hunting and exploring the DC universe together here (3 Switches in the house, and their friend picking it up too, gives us a full party to swarm around in...lol). Come on, noon (EST)...!!

Re: It's Official: The Witcher 3: Complete Edition Is Coming To Nintendo Switch This Year

Highlar

Wow...yup...confirmed on their twitter page announcing the game...single 32gb cart...full game, 2 expansions, and 16 pieces of DLC. Game running at 540p in handheld, 720p docked, dynamic reslution turned on (so sounding kind of what like Panic Button did to get Doom and Wolfenstein running on Switch). This sounds like a pretty incredible accomplishment. I have it on PS4...got it as a free game when I bought my PS4 refurbished at Gamestop a few years ago...but never really got too far into it. Can't wait to get it on Switch and give it another go...on the go...anywhere and everywhere. Man...I so love this system!!!
