Re: Reminder: Don't Starve Together Is Now Available On Switch

Highlar

@negw Don't Starve has been on Switch for a while. Its a single player survival adventure game. However, Don't Starve Together was a separate version of the same game made by the same developer, but it allows up to 4 players (I think it is, have it downloaded but haven't tried it yet) to play together online. You can also set your own rules for the world server if you make the game, making it easier or harder to survive.

Re: Temtem Still Releasing On Switch, "Preemptive Build" Sent To Nintendo For Certification

Highlar

@Specter_of-the_OLED There's a reason for this. Its designed this way because this was touted as basically the Pokemon MMO that everyone always wanted. Its an online multiplayer monster collectathon and battling game. Just as DCUO, Warface, Warframe, Onigiri, etc. are online only games. There are all still a ton of fun to play on Switch (even Onigiri can be fun, as janky as that game is everywhere).

Re: Samantha Robertson Has Left Nintendo Of America After 11 Years

Highlar

Seems like quite a few long time employees are dropping out of NoA since Reggie left and Bowser took over. I don't know if its a good thing getting fresh blood and ideas in, or bad that the people who know NoA and the spirit of things like Treehouse Live are leaving. It does make one wonder why.

Re: Nintendo Download: 10th March (North America)

Highlar

Already have the free edition of Chocobo GP downloaded and going to give it a try in just a bit. I've been waiting on .hack/GU since it was announced, but didn't realize it was coming out tomorrow until just now. I'll be picking that up tomorrow for sure! I've always liked the .hack games, and having the whole GU collection together in portable fashion will be great for me!

Re: Talking Point: How's Your Switch Holding Up After 5 Years?

Highlar

Still rockin' my OG Switch that I picked up a couple of weeks after launch. I didn't pre-order one, and my local GameStop was out of stock on the pre-orders. Luckily a couple of weeks later they got more in, although only in bigger, more expensive bundles. But so worth it! Switch has become my favorite console of all time. I've gone through a couple of sets of joycons in that time, but still using my original Pro-Controller (though I think it might be getting about time to replace that one, feels a bit looser than when I first got it now). But the system itself? Rock solid. Never had a problem with it!

Re: Crunchyroll Moves All Funimation Content Under One Banner

Highlar

@JustMonika Wait... Date A Live is FINALLY getting another season??? I've been out of the main anime loop for a while, but that's one I have always hoped for! Date A Live is such a good show! And apart from the bits of titillation, its actually pretty wholesome as well. lol... Thanks for the news!!!

Re: Crunchyroll Moves All Funimation Content Under One Banner

Highlar

I want to know how this is going to work for long time Funimation paid accounts and Crunchyroll paid accounts. Some of us have subscribed to both for a while now. Are they completely pulling shows/movies/etc. off of the Funimation service and moving them only over to Crunchyroll? If I read above correctly, only Crunchyroll will continue to be updated with new episodes and such from this point onwoard, leaving Funimation only with older, no-longer-updating shows? Why is the free Crunchyroll offer only available to those who have recently subscribed to Funimation, and not those of us who have supported the service for years? I have a lot of questions about this move and am concerned about my paid accounts.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About Pokémon Scarlet And Pokémon Violet?

Highlar

I am absolutely excited and getting Pokemon Violet on release. Sprigatito just looks adorable, with a follow up of Quaxly (though my daughters are both adamant on taking Fuecoco the "derpy apple fire croc" in their words).

I don't really understand those that act like this game is "too early" after PLA. The mainline games come out on a cycle of three years. PS/PV would have started creation right after SW/SH. Both BD/SP and PLA were made by other teams than then mainline Pokemon games. In my opinion, PS/PV started development, what would become the PLA team saw the direction and open world aesthetic they were going with, and used it in PLA as a test run to see how the purchasing audience and fans would react to an "almost open world" Pokemon game. PLA was more the beta test for how the format would work in the mainline PS/PV games. With the overwhelming positive reaction to PLA, Game Freak then knew they were going in the right direction for PS/PV, and it was full steam ahead.

Also, to those complaining about the graphics...complain away. And I reserve the right to disagree with you...the world looks bright and beautiful. I for one have never cared about "jaggies" or a little "muddy textures". I've grown up with gaming from Atari 2600 to XBSX, and seen every level of graphics between. A game doesn't have to be perfect graphically for me to be spectacular. PLA has its critics for graphics, but they never for once took away from the game for me. I'm very much looking forward to seeing more of PS/PV.

Re: Video: What's Going On With Nintendo's Mii, And Why Are They Dying Out?

Highlar

I have watched I don't know how many reaction videos to the latest Nintendo Direct. And pretty much 90+% of the time when Switch Sports comes up, the watchers had basically the same response: "Oh YES! This is gre....wait...those aren't Mii's. Where are the Mii's?" Nintendo's little adorable avatar characters have always been popular with Nintendo's fans. I definitely hope that Nintendo is not trying to faze out the Mii's for anything else. They are, and always have been since first introduced, distinctly Nintendo.

Re: Puzzle & Dragons Is Coming To Nintendo Switch This Week

Highlar

If the microtransactions are for the "egg" gatcha mechanic shown in the video reveal above, I would say its not TOO bad, as it plainly states that you cannot get duplicates. So at least you know you will always be getting something new IF you choose to put money into it...or you can just grind away and get things that way. I am actually rather interested in this because of the infinite dungeons possibilities. Being able to download dungeons made by others sounds intriguing. And with such a low asking price, I think I'll give it a go.

Re: Genshin Impact Creator Announces "Immersive Virtual World Experience" HoYoverse

Highlar

Honestly, by now, I don't really care all that much. Genshin was first announced for Switch before anything else (if I recall right), but even after coming to MOBILE there has been no word ever since on the Switch release. I've played some of it on my PS4 and PC, but until I hear solid news of the (if its still coming!) Switch release, Genshin news can just blow right on by me.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed my time with the game, and it IS a fun open world exploration adventure game...but I was very very interested in the Switch reveal way back at the beginning, and its just been dead radio silence since then on it. The Switch is my favorite and primary way to play games on (some on my PC and Xbox1X with gamepass), and that's where I would want to primarily play Genshin, too.

Re: This Official Nintendo Direct Infographic Showcases All Its Reveals

Highlar

My favorite thing from the Direct (apart from personal opinions on individual games, which there were a LOT LOT LOT of positive for me!) is that if you look at the whole thing objectively, there is just about something for everyone. Maybe not everything for everyone, but there is at least something that just about any gamer can get in to. That is a wide swath of games to release in just the first half of the year (minus Xenoblade, and maybe those that said "coming this year"). You like RPGs? Here you go with Xeno, Earthbound, LiveALive, and more. Action? Splatoon, FE Warriors and Kirby got your back. Sports? MLB, Strikers, Switch Sports. Platformers your jam? Klonoa and in a sense Portal. Open world exploration? No Man's Sky is coming at you this summer. Strategy fan? Front Misson 1 & 2 coming, Advance Wars, Triangle Strategy (with a meaty demo!) can tickle your fancy. Multiplayer your thing? Lots of that up there with Sports, Strikers, MLB, Splatoon, Advance Wars, etc. Want something for free? Disney's Speedstorm (which I'll at least try out, as a F2P) is coming. Even if you only liked just one thing out of that Direct, there WAS SOMETHING FOR YOU. I don't see how anyone could have been totally and completely disappointed with that list of games coming within the next 6 months or so!

Re: Poll: Will Mario Kart 8's Deluxe Booster Course Pass Make You Buy The NSO Expansion Pack?

Highlar

@Otoemetry Since I just upgraded from my regular NSO account, to the Expansion, I can say for sure that you pay for a whole new subscription that has a new start date from the time you upgraded. The pro-rated amount you pay seems like the difference of what you would have already used in your old subscription (for instance, I paid about $60 now instead of the regular $80 which I will next year). My old NSO sub was from September, but the new date is now in February (and a year from now).

Re: Poll: Will Mario Kart 8's Deluxe Booster Course Pass Make You Buy The NSO Expansion Pack?

Highlar

I finally bought into the Expansion Pass for this, for one main reason. I already paid for a Family plan, for myself and my family, and some friends. Upgrading the pass now will allow all of us (who ALL own MK8D already) to have access to the DLC courses. Plus the Animal Crossing DLC (which, again, we all own) now, and the N64/Genesis (love live Shining Force!!!) systems? As a family plan, it seems a lot more viable to me than for a solo pass owner, since we can all access the expanded content, not just myself. So yes, the MK8 DLC finally pushed me over the edge to get into it.

Re: No Man's Sky Has Been Secretly In The Works For Two Years, And There's More Info To Come

Highlar

Watching the trailer, I think (to me) it seems fairly obvious this is running natively on the Switch. I've played the original on PS4, and the newer version on Xbox1X. While a major downgrade graphically, it still looks very nice. However you can see things like jagged edges, reduced textures, reduced resolution, etc. all over in the trailer. I also cannot imagine anyone working for 2 years on a port of a game, finding ways to downgrade it for lesser hardware, only to then run a downgraded version of a game from a higher powered device over a cloud service? That just doesn't make much logical sense. Why would you need to find ways to work around the Switch hardware limitations if you were just going to run the game on more powerful cloud based systems instead? But the important thing to me is, if the trailer really is anything to go by, it appears to look and run quite smoothly. I am very much looking forward to more info on this Switch version!

Re: Minecraft Now Has More Than 1 Trillion Views On YouTube

Highlar

I was really happy to see Mumbo Jumbo and Grian pop up on screen there! They are both just such decent, nice, wholesome guys to watch, particularly on Hermitcraft together. And I can certainly see why Aphmau got such screen time too. I admit I'm one of those that watches Minecraft YouTubers. Grian, Mumbo, Scar, Aphmau, LDShadowlady, CaptainSparklez, Dream, heck even JackSepticEye and Markipliar got into MineCraft some last year. It can be a lot of fun and entertainment watching some of these personalities work their way through fantastic worlds that they and others build up.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Release Date And Pricing Revealed

Highlar

They better offer something pretty good for that price. I already pay for the family plan for my NSO account so me, my daughters, and a few of their friends can all play Switch online together. But that price is MORE THAN DOUBLE what I pay now. $80 is a hefty price hike, so they better add some pretty spectacular things to the service, since it STILL doesn't even offer as much as Xbox or Sony do for their now EQUALLY PRICED online plans. Before, Nintendo offered less...but you paid less, so that was alright. NOW they are asking the same price as competitors, but still offering less in services, overall. And wouldn't it be better just to buy the DLC outright rather than have to rely on an online membership to "own" it...until you decide to stop paying and then it all goes bye bye?

Re: Video: Why Didn't Square Enix Port The Kingdom Hearts Collection To Switch?

Highlar

Before reading the rest of the comments, I'll toss in my $0.02 first, then go back and read. I call a little BS on the answers up above. For one thing, Square had to know that Nintendo was working towards Sora for quite a while as being included in Smash, since I can't imagine Nintendo never approached them before just recently (as was mentioned in the Smash direct, he was the top pick in the Smash poll taken years ago). These games may have basis in the PS2, but KH1.5 and 2.5 (the HD versions) are on the PS3, which has already been seen to be pretty portable to the Switch. Also, Square never even has to enquire about the cost of physical cartridges, if they released the games digital only which could much more easily be done. I think we have also seen many occasions where file sizes between PS3/PS4/Xbox/Switch are quite different, with Switch games often clocking in at much smaller sizes. Also, I cannot believe that Square would not turn a profit on selling these games again on Switch. In my opinion, this is Square trying to squeeze money out of Switch owners without giving any kind of an actual product...but just a one time rental fee which ends at ANY time Square decides it ends. They could sell the cloud access to the games, and decide to pull them a week later - that's always in the fine print on these cloud based games. I think the above answers are trying to FIND ways to justify Square NOT putting the games actually on Switch. Are they in their rights to do so? Sure. Do I have the right to say its a little sleazy of Square to go this route for gamers that they HAD to have known...since early in the Switch's existence/lifespan...wanted these games portable on the Switch? Yes, I do too.

Also, I'm quite interested in seeing exactly HOW Square is going to price this on Switch. On PS4, you can get the all-in-one story-so-far package...which is basically the same thing as coming to Switch by another name...for $99 (basically $100). This is in digital form from the Playstation store. I haven't checked on my Xbox yet, but I'd imagine it would be the same price. Again, these are digital copies that YOU OWN and can download to your systems. IF Square tries to charge ANYTHING NEAR this for this for merely cloud ACCESS to the games...where you as the end user don't actually OWN anything about the games themselves...I can only imagine the disgusted uproar from gamers at THAT time.

Re: Three Kingdom Hearts Games Are Coming To Switch, But They're All Cloud Versions

Highlar

@twadebarcelona Just checked these on my XboxOneX, and the 1.5+2.5 collection is $50, and 2.8 is $60 currently. Although, with this KH 205h Anniversary coming up, maybe they'll go on sale and I'll get them on there. Both my daughter and I were REALLY excited about getting 1.5/2.5 and 2.8 on Switch when we thought it was only 3 that was cloud...now we are both thoroughly disappointed.

Re: The Shadowrun Trilogy Is Coming To Nintendo Switch In 2022

Highlar

This was one of the big surprise announcements for me. I absolutely love Shadowrun. Played it P&P years ago when I was younger when it first came out. Loved how true to the game the SNES and Genesis versions were (especially SNES in my opinion). I'll be getting these for sure. Another personal favorite announcement was the Actraiser remaster!

As an aside, I've watched several YouTuber reaction videos to the Direct since it aired (I love watching Nintendo fans reacting to Nintendo Directs and news like this...its so wholesome!), and it just makes me want to cry whenever the vast majority of them go "Shadowrun? What's that? Who cares?" and when pretty much the same for Actraiser "No idea what this is!" comments. I recognized Actraiser the moment the music started and the camera started swirling down to the land. Guess I'm just too old a gamer these days. lol

Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd September (North America)

Highlar

I had no idea that D2 was out now until just a few minutes ago...so I immediately logged into the Eshop, plopped down a purchase, and am eagerly awaiting its download to finish now! As for the rest, maybe Kakarot, but I'll have to see what happens during the Direct in a couple of hours to decide if I get anything else. I cannot get enough of dungeon crawlers on Switch!

Re: Community: What Was Your First Ever Nintendo Game?

Highlar

Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt (the dual cartridge), of course. With the NES way back in the day. Which my brother and I played together on a 13" black and white dial channel TV. And it was glorious! And the first game I played straight through...beginning to end...over a weekend...was Dragon Warrior (the original NES one). It was the first RPG I got and played and I loved every minute of it.

Although it WAS better when our dad would let us hook it up to the larger color TV down in the living room. He got into gaming through us, and he's been a gamer ever since as well. So I guess you could say that we are a 3 generation gaming family (my dad, myself, and now my daughters are gamers).

Re: Warframe Is Getting A Cross-Play And Cross-Save Update

Highlar

@PJ301178 This is what I'm afraid is going to happen with Warframe too...which means that I will just keep my accounts separate, I guess. Although I have spent the most on my Switch account, and only a little on the others, I don't want to lose the different Warframes and sets I have on those other accounts just for the sake of a unified account across all 3 platforms.

Re: Warframe Is Getting A Cross-Play And Cross-Save Update

Highlar

@SpectralDynamite I watched the reveal live, and while I think this is great news for the game...I have to disagree with you on this point about "you wouldn't lose anything". Cross-save is a great idea...however the problem comes for people with multiple older accounts...where they have put time and money INTO those other accounts. DE hasn't said anything about how the cross-save will work. For example, if I migrate my Switch account to my Xbox and PS4, will that just simply delete the save game files for those systems that's already there and replace it with my Switch account? That would mean that any money and advancement I'd made on THOSE accounts would be lost. Just yesterday morning, I had bought the $15 starter pack on my new XboxX account...having no idea that cross-save would be coming in the future. I've also bought the same pack before on Switch, and PS4 before that. All 3 of the accounts I've spent money and time on have different levels of advancement, different weapons, different Mastery levels, and different numbers of Warframes and slots. How is DE going to manage THESE kind of accounts for people? Is there going to be some way to merge all of my accounts and get all of the things I've paid for and put time into before on one single account...or do I have to pick JUST one account to move around...OR am I just stuck with 3 separate accounts because I don't want to feel like I've put money and time into something that will just go up in smoke if I use the cross-save feature? Cross-play is SO good for Warframe (and any other game that utilizes it), but cross-play...while a GREAT idea on paper...has some major issues to discuss about with multiple locked system accounts like Warframe uses now BEFORE cross-save comes out.

Re: Monster Hunter's New 3D Anime Movie Premieres On Netflix This August

Highlar

@TheFrenchiestFry "Jarringly edited" or not...THIS is what that MH movie should have been!! It already looks leagues better than what came out before it (as far as films are concerned). As Monster Hunter fans, THIS is what we want to see: Hunters...hunting monsters...crafting their way to bigger and better weapons and armor...facing down ferocious Elder Dragons in their quest to keep their village safe.

Re: Teenager Hits $1.7 Million In Revenue During Pandemic Reselling Pokémon Cards, Game Consoles And More

Highlar

I think I'd have to disagree with those saying "he started out with a ton of money" too. We can't know that. Maybe he was already a Pokemon card collector...saw how crazy Pokemon sales were getting last year...and decided to start by selling his collection piece by piece...making profits on the rarer cards he already had...which he then turned around and invested in bigger ticket items like the said gaming consoles? I may not agree with the "morality" of scalpers or the like...but that doesn't make it any less a viable business alternative as long as there are those willing to pay for those said luxury items at the prices he's offering. Is it necessarily "fair" to those that are forced to wait with the limited supplies out there? No, not really...but its business where there ARE others willing to pay the prices (as some above who are figure and card collectors, etc., have shown THEY were willing to do for their passions). I can't fault him for seeing a business opportunity and taking it, especially at his age.

Re: Random: This Game Builder Garage Version Of VVVVVV Looks Almost Identical To The Real Thing

Highlar

@dmcc0 I look at it as people trying to come to grips with the tools available in GBG. Testing things out and figuring out how they work. One way to be able to do so, would be to compare what you are doing to something already done. For instance, you put in a change in your build, see how it works, then go and check out the original source and see if it plays the same. Once they understand how things work, I'm sure more and more original games will come out. I believe the same kind of things happened when Mario Maker first came out too.

Re: Nintendo Asks That You Don't Co-Stream The E3 2021 Nintendo Direct, Thanks Very Much

Highlar

Going to post and then read through all the comments. I'm definitely on the side of this being a very dumb sounding decision from Nintendo Japan. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Nintendo fans ENJOY watching live reactions of their favorite Nintendo streamers reacting to new Nintendo information. Telling these streamers that they can't stream the Direct live with a reaction...but then immediately after the LIVE transmission is over...they can watch the replay and stream a reaction to that...is just stupid. It should be one or the other: either tell people they can't stream the video with their face AT ALL or that certainly they can stream a reaction to it. The decision makes no sense. One of my favorite things to do in the 2 or 3 days following any Nintendo stream is wander over to YouTube and watch the SAME stream over and over again...but as reaction videos to see the love and joy and support that other Nintendo fans show for their favorite (or one of their favorite) gaming companies. To tell those streamers, many of whom stream Nintendo games and gush over Nintendo hardware and software that they cannot react to the biggest Nintendo news event all year LIVE is just a slap in the face. As the article states above, hopefully this is ONLY for Nintendo Japan, or Nintendo is going to be hit hard with harsh criticism from fans.

Re: Rumour Buster: Has GameStop Just Revealed The 'New Nintendo Switch'? Probably Not

Highlar

All I know is this: yesterday, I finally decided that I would pick up either a PS5 or Xbox to go along with my Switch. For pretty much the past six months or so )despite owning a year long pass to PS+ that renewed in February) I haven't even turned on my PS4...its been Switch all the time. But I do like some of the things I'm seeing from Xbox etc lately. So I called my local Gamestop where I have a great repour with the local staff and asked them about the rumored restock happening on Tuesday of system units. All he would tell me is that he "knows there is some kind of event happening on Tuesday" but that "he doesn't know what the event actually is". That last part I'm pretty doubtful of, since I can't imagine that store employees have no idea what is happening in just a few days in their own stores. But Gamestop individual stores ARE aware of something big happening on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Re: Minute Of Islands Is Out Now On Switch

Highlar

@BaronMunchausen Tuesday. 9am PST/12pm EST. There were more game reveals for Switch during the PC Gaming and Future Gaming conferences than at any other showing today. The Square conference I felt was a bit of a joke. Although I quite enjoyed seeing the new Guardians of the Galaxy game, the demo for it went way too long. And they showed how ALL of the early Final Fantasy games (1-6) are being redone with new sprite work, etc. in a package....coming to Steam/PC and mobile ONLY at this point. That doesn't make ANY sense to me, at all...NO console release for those as of yet. The only other game from Square that really caught my eye was Final Fantasy Origins, which appears to be a remake of the original Final Fantasy, with the three fighters referring to themselves as the Light warriors and fighting Garland as Chaos. I hope to hear more about that one in the future.

Re: Wizard With A Gun Brings Online Co-Op Sandbox Survival Action To Switch In 2022

Highlar

I watched this reveal live, and was immediately drawn to it. I love all these dungeon crawler, isometric view games from Victor Vran to Titan to Diablo 3 to Hades...and now to Wizard with a Gun. VERY much looking forward to seeing/hearing more about this one in the upcoming days/months ahead!

Also: the Devolver Digital direct was the absolute best presentation of E3 so far!! It was hilarious, the "Max Pass Plus" page was actually put up during the presentation, and people were buying things from it while it was live (like the purple suit was $500 and the video tape of the presentation sold for $1000 to someone, apparently!). It was just such an entertaining show to watch! Devolver Digital is REALLY hitting their stride on making these things a blast to watch....they really know their target audience!

Re: Random: Someone Has Already Got Mario Kart Up And Running In Game Builder Garage

Highlar

@KoopaTheGamer Is that how they made the dog in the "Nintendogs" one that was linked to up there? That one looks pretty incredible to me, especially, as it had the dog character responding to the "owner" of the camera. The others are all fascinating as well, for basically only being out a VERY short time, and getting that level of complexity already. I can't imagine where it can go from there! I think the biggest limitation is going to be on exactly how big of a design you can get to.

Re: Every Game From The Wholesome Direct Coming To Nintendo Switch

Highlar

I guess I'm the only one REALLY interested in Mythic Ocean. It looks like there are so many branching paths and ways you can affect the story that you could play it a dozen times and get a different ending each time. Definitely want to know more about that one. Skatebird is something I've been interested in since it was first announced. It just seems like silly fun. Also Witchery Academy, We Are OFK, Woodo...so many from this list caught my eye as something I would love to try out. The end of this year is stacked for me already, just from this one showing...and that's with three whole days of announcements to go! Woo boy!
