Today's Nintendo Direct Mini has confirmed that Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition will be launching on Nintendo Switch on 29th May.
You can check out the game's specific portion of the Direct above; Nintendo says that it will feature updated graphics, improved battle HUD and menus, more than 90 remastered music tracks, and an all-new epilogue story with Melia and Shulk called 'Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Connected'.
It has also been revealed that a 'Definitive Works' version of the game will release on the same day in North America, which includes a 250-page art book, while Europe is due to receive a 'Collector's Set' including a Sound Selection Vinyl that reflects the Monado's design.
Exciting times, huh? Mark those calendars, folks!

I'm still feeling it... This is unbelievable.
Monolith Soft sure knows what fans want.
I'm so hyped for this game!!! I need nothing else this year!
Edit: Might even get the collector's edition, but not sure yet.
Nintendo is the best at Remasters. Something for everyone.
I'm usually not that excited for games I've already played before but it's my favourite JRPG of all time and I haven't played it since 2011 so I'm pretty keen.
So much for a Direct...
Already own two copies of the original but this looks stunning. Day one purchase for me.
I'm down for the limited edition!
This looks just wonderful ^^
@invictus4000 ...Seems like you didn't scroll down enough on the news.
Wow truly amazing stuff here folks!🙌🏼
I just found out Shulk is Lv 38 while Reyn is Lv17.
Nintendo is sure playing this game the wrong way.
Definitely a day one purchase! I haven't played the original, so I believe I'm in for a treat.
Remastered game - Yay!
New Epilogue Content - Yay! Yay!
Limited Edition - Yay! Yay! Yay!
With Vinyl - DAMN IT! I wanted a CD!! 😣
Guess another CD import from Japan for the soundtrack.
While I love the vinyl, please tell me that the European artbook will also be 250 pages and not some 30-page edition...
If the artbook is slimmed down...yeah, I'll totally buy both editions...
The wait might kill me.
Oh, the release-date is may 29th? quick, act like we didn't know this before
This epilogue (an awesome idea by the way) only makes Shulk x Melia more canon
have mine preorder ever since it was announce but lets hope the virus starts to wind down by then.
Biggest question: will you be able to hear the new music tracks under the literally constant screaming unlike in the original? Just a simple option to turn off combat voice clips or even to lower their volume? Because the Wii version is just constantly yelling move names and catch phrases, like you can't fight an ant without the characters wanting it to be a pro wrestling match... Good game, but it's a shame the volume has to be turned down for it to be a good game because the music is great when you can hear it.
I'm worried because XC2 just doubled down on the constant screaming of catchphrases by having 6 constantly screaming characters - the audio in that game borders on hilarious.
I wasn't sure about the new artstyle, but this trailer convinced me otherwise; the game looks absolutely gorgeous, and with a new epilogue, there's an extra incentive to double-dip that might just push me to getting this at launch.
My thoughts:
That UI is to die for. It's so simplistic, and with that 2D feel, cartoony radar and icons for Arts. Character designs, especially Melia, are brilliant.
Gaur Plains sounds fantastic. Engage the Enemy is okay, but the opera singers don't have as much emotion as the singer in the original.
@Li_N_K Reyn is the only underleveled character. And they got to Makna Forest in 27 hours, which depending on your point of view is pretty long to get to that point, or very short.
I was so excited to play this for the first time back on New 3DS. I feel the same excitement all over again despite the fact that I don't really play RPGs much anymore.
I'm so excited to play this game. I had it for the 3ds but the graphics were so compressed it turned me off of the game. But this is absolutely gorgeous and the added epilogue is awesome. I so excited for this
Just snagged a collectors set! 😀
So this future connected... connected to what exactly?
(Like, Pyra and Mythra and Rex?)
I won’t be getting this because TLOU Part 2 comes out the same day but I will definitely pick it up after I beat that game. I’m stoked to finally play this game for the first time; I loved Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
@MoonKnight7 Europe or US? I am yet to see pre-orders anywhere...
@Mach_Rider
Picked up a US one from Best Buy
I guess in the end the true best grill wins out! XD
Sigh. Europe won best CE again.
Wow, this really is everything I wanted from this game. And the release date is much sooner than I expected too!
I just ordered the collectors set
I thought the epilogue footage had an XCX vibe to it.
I just watched the European version... WOW they're special edition is WAY BETTER than ours. We get an art book. They also get the sound track and a poster
Japan gets the book and CD soundtrack
And once again Europe gets a steelbook while North America doesn't. I swear Doug Bowser has something against steelbooks.
I don't think even remastered graphics and a new epilogue story could tenpt me into braving another 100 hour RPG. I love it so much, but I finished it during a time when I had tons of free hours to enjoy it. I just don't have that these days. I will always remember how great it was and still is, though.
@Dodger There are literally full audio options in that game.
Personally, I love the Voice callout in a fight
RIP The Last of Us Part 2.
Just in time for my bday on June 1. This will be my first Xenoblade experience.
This is a game i need in my library.
This game, Trials of mana two gems i need to buy.
I will be getting this and still hold out hope for X to come too
That Collector's Edition will be mine for sure! Looks brilliant.
I'd been hoping for a special edition but a vinyl soundtrack??? For real? Might have to pay for shipping from Europe
Anyone else tired of NA having lazy collector's editions compared to everyone else?
Once again, us in Europe going to get a superior special edition, rejoice!
That Melia and Shulk expanded story is enough to make me want to invest hundreds of hours into this again. Also, I'm interested in seeing where that portal takes them, probably the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 world, which will be awesome.
doesnt seem to be turn based anymore? if not im not picking it up
Buying Monolith was one of the best decisions Nintendo ever made. I really can't wait to buy this. Totally one of my fav games of all time.
If only I liked XB2 as much as the original, but it simply did not click with me, the character design, overal goofyness of it all. Shame really, because I tried really hard to like it.
Will I triple dip?
YES!
Looks absolutely glorious. Can't wait to dive into this game again with the new graphics.
@King-Demon
Ummmm what? It was never turn based
The epilogue looks like a great addition, but I can't shake that this is a super quick-and-dirty remaster. Almost looks like most of the models (both world and some characters) have simply been retextured and not even at that high of quality. The Switch is far more capable that what I'm seeing.
@peanutbuttercup Not Bowser, NoA in generaI. I guess we’re too large for them to spend money on.
Great to see the update on Alvis’s necklace! Confirms some theories!
@ottospooky
I was just about to post something similar. The looks of the "shoulder" area...those flying whale fish things with the wings, etc...it all had (to me at least) a strong feel of XCX. And with the name of the epilogue content being "Future Connected"..it makes me wonder if this epilogue story is, in some way, a bridge between XC and XCX, showing that XCX is...indeed...a continuation from XC, as well as XC2?
I'm looking forward to this. I see the size of the game is 13.7GB from Nintendo USA's main page so their should be no question of the full game not being on the cart. Take that 2K Games.
NOOOOO! They changed the dialogue and music! I wanted the remake to be exactly the same as the original! #logic
Heads up, people! Pre-orders are live at the UK store! 90 pounds, comes with an extra Monado keychain!

@Julien @Mach_Rider You mean like these ones?
Immense! Just wish this was actually being released today as I seem to have plenty of spare time at the moment!
@FX102A You might want to look into the Japanese CE then. That one comes with the artbook and a CD, which is different from the previous sampler CD they did for the 3DS port (at least in terms of artwork).
@Mach_Rider Being just a sound selection, probably better just to wait for an official OST release. Saying that I have the original official OST CD but I’ve heard they’ve composed some good arrangements recently.
@Arglas_
hmm i may need to play it again, as long as its not the same system as xeno 2. that combat system sucked so much.
idk i kinda recall the first one being like a hybrid turn based. but it was loooong ago now
@King-Demon I'm not a fan of Xenoblade 2's combat at all but others love it a lot. And Xenoblade 1's combat is in my book not turn base. I'm happy they didn't change the combat in the remake because it's still a blast
Hmmm... I wonder how languages will work... specifically, if I buy the Japanese version will I be able to change the menus and text to English, but keep the Japanese voices? Or will I have to import the American version like I did with Xenoblade 2???
Wait, I think I figured it out. According to the various eShops, Xenoblade Definitive Edition supports all kinds of languages, where as with Xenoblade 2, the Japanese version doesn't support English and vice-versa. So I'm PROBABLY going to be safe buying the Japanese version.
