@JudgeMethos I don't exactly get those who say "the whole online seems really lame". It doesn't really make sense to say that...then say you loved it on the Wii U. Because...honestly...its the SAME ONLINE as on the Wii U. Yes, there is added voice chat through a messily complicated system...but you DON'T HAVE TO USE THAT. If you don't, its the SAME online as the Wii U had...but with the added features of the map rotation being much shorter...and having Salmon Run added in as a timed online thing (albeit much more frequently) like Splatfests. So...how can you say you liked it on the Wii U...but that the same online ability is lame on the Switch? I just don't get comments like that.

Re: Nintendo Download: 20th July (North America)

I PREFER to get my bigger games at retail and save my drive for smaller and indie titles, so...I have Splatoon 2 to pick up at Gamestop tomorrow after work (fully paid for the game back when I bought my Switch 2 weeks after launch), thinking of buying Fate/Extella when I go to pick it up, and will be downloading Boost Beast (I'm a sucker for and love these match 3 games...they are a great way to pass the time idling away, especially in portable mode). MAYBE Samurai Showdown, but still on the fence about it.

And I'll be the first to admit it, when I saw that "Eba & Egg: A Hatch Trip" the first and only thing I saw was Eba...and that went to Elite Beat Agents in my mind...so imagine how crushed I was when I jumped to the eShop...only to find it was actually "Eba & Egg". lol

Re: Retro City Rampage DX is Coming to the Switch eShop Soon

Highlar

Well...let's see...I already have this on my old 3DS, PS3, and PS4...and I may actually dip into it again to have it on the Switch for the bigger portable screen, depending on pricing, etc, since it sounds like there were even more improvements made for this release of the game. I never really got very far into it...but what I did play was great fun.

Re: Boost Beast Arrives On Switch eShop Tomorrow

Highlar

Considering how much I love "match 3" types of games...yes, I shall definitely be picking this one up. That steampunk inspired one also has my attention. I'm just about always a sucker for these kind of games, especially the ones that have added things like this one (the combat aspect derived from making matches). I don't care what anyone else has to say...I love match games.

Re: Review: Splatoon 2 (Switch)

Highlar

@electrolite77 Examples (even though my comments weren't on specific scores but more the reasoning behind scores)? Okay...let's see:

GamingTrendNov 5, 2015 "100" (For Black Ops 3)
How would I describe it in a single word? Fantastic! If this is the kind of work a three-year development cycle can give a AAA game, then I don’t want to see Black Ops 4 until 2018, and counting down the days to it’s release.

GamingTrendJul 18, 2017 "85" (For Splatoon 2)
Splatoon 2 adds some great new weapons and decent new modes, but an over-reliance on the its familiar formula keeps it from feeling like a full-blown sequel.

The Digital FixNov 18, 2016 "80" (CoD: Infinite Warefare)
Thrilling and polished, Infinite Warfare is a generously loaded game but one that does nothing new against its rivals.

The Digital Fix Nov 8, 2016 "90" (Modern Warfare Remastered)
Even now, Modern Warfare is pushing boundaries, just in newer ways. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered sets a standard that shames other so-called ‘remastered’ titles.

The Digital FixJul 18, 2017 "70" (Splatoon 2)
A few extra bells and whistles keeps Splatoon 2 relevant and fun on its new platform, but Nintendo plays it a little too safe for hardened Splatters.

VideoGamerNov 9, 2016 "90" (CoD: Infinite Warefare)
It's great - I can see myself playing it for months to come - but it is just Call of Duty with a fresh lick of paint, and with competition as stiff as it is, no one could blame you for sitting this year's game out. But to do so would be to miss out on one of the finest Call of Duty campaigns yet, and an online multiplayer that stands up with the best of them.

VideoGamerJul 18, 2017 "80" (Splatoon 2)
Despite imperfections, Splatoon 2 improves on the original, and is a colourful, joyous addition to the Switch.

The problem, of course, is in finding sites that have scored both a CoD game AND Splatoon 2 already...but as you can see, there are sites giving the "Splatoon 2 is more of the same...although great!" line...but not necessarily for CoD...or even if they DO...still rank it at a higher level because...CoD! And honestly, I have no problem with someone giving a game a higher or lower score based on personal opinion, as I said earlier, but its inconsistencies between franchises that I find hard to swallow.

Re: Nyko's Clip Grip Power Is The Perfect Partner For The Nintendo Switch Online App

Highlar

@roadrunner343 Not everyone enjoys using these motion controls for aiming in Splatoon/2. Now...if it were separate joycons and using pointer aiming in something like CoD...I'd still use that, probably (at least, I would if they'd fix the de-syncing issue and having to reset the pointer to center screen every couple of minutes...but I don't know if that's something Nintendo can overcome with this controller design).

Re: Nyko's Clip Grip Power Is The Perfect Partner For The Nintendo Switch Online App

Highlar

If the controller is chargeable, and has a game case ON it, and can extend that charge to charging whatever phone is in the cradle...yeah, I'd say this is some decent value for the money, even without the phone cradle. I will probably be picking one up eventually. As for NEEDING a set of headphones to use voice chat with...that's a personal option. You don't HAVE to have headphones hooked up to use voice chat through the phone, just use the phones speakers? (And yes, I also think this is a rather ridiculous method of "including voice chat in games" by Nintendo...even if I think the rest of Splatnet 2 sounds like a great accompaniment to the game!)

Re: Review: Splatoon 2 (Switch)

Highlar

@FlameRunnerFast It doesn't really matter if Nintendo fans would buy CoD or not (and yes, some of us do...and even on Nintendo systems), because that has nothing to do with the comparison being valid. The point being that CoD games almost always get smashing scores every time...for very few upgrades to the previous games. They are pretty much iterations of the same game with maybe a few small gameplay differences. You might as well say that the zombie horde mode could have been patched into the previous versions of the game as an extra mode...so why bother coming out with a new game? Also, the graphical differences between Splatoon 1 and 2 are readily apparent if you are running the games side by side. Easily an upgrade in appearance. Just because they haven't changed the aesthetic of the game does not mean it isn't a jump in graphical fidelity. Its changes like these that ARE done in a sequel to a game, with the same game style and play kept in tact, but adding new features and things to it. Would it have been possible to patch ALL of the extras into Splatoon 1? Maybe. But it doesn't make them less valid in the sequel game.

Another example would be the Elder Scrolls games. They are basically each the same game...with slight game tweaks to change them up a little. But are they different games? No. All good games in my opinion...but each time you buy a new one its basically just for a new story...or maybe a new ability (the dragon shouts from Skyrim for example). Or racing games such as Forze. They aren't massively changed on each release...but they get great scores nonetheless. Why? Because they are still great games in their own right, if you like those kind of games.

The point is, not every game is going to be a major shakeup on an established formula...but that doesn't stop them from being very good and enjoyable experiences on their own...without being completely different from their predecessors.

Re: Review: Splatoon 2 (Switch)

Highlar

I've read over the Metacritic reviews earlier today, and some of them had me shaking my head at the comments. You think it deserves just an 8 and not a 10? That's fine...that's your personal opinion. But basing on lowering the score because "it doesn't change enough from the original" or "feels like more of the same as the original Splatoon"? I can't exactly take those comments/opinions too seriously. Not when games like CoD have fairly frequent "sequels" that don't do much to change up the game hardly EVER with each iteration...but I bet those same places knocking Splatoon 2 for those reasons would give the next CoD a 9 or 10 because...CoD release! Splatoon 2 seems to have plenty of upgrades over the original game: 2 new game modes (I consider the new League games a new mode), upgraded graphics (easily able to see when putting it up against the original game), new weapons, new specials, new maps, map rotations are now only every 2 hours instead of 4, voice chat and out of game communications (however awkward a system it is), a longer, tighter Hero mode, promises of more maps/weapons/etc. DLC to come for a whole YEAR...which like the first game will also be completely free, and Splatfests for at least TWO years. And that's just all I can think of at the top of my tired head (its almost 2am now). So...if all that sounds like just a LITTLE upgrade to the first game...I think someone has a little bit of a screw loose!

Re: The Spirit of Miiverse Is Alive and Kicking in Splatoon 2

Highlar

@invictus4000 I woud certainly disagree with this statement. I for one loved Miiverse. The changes they made to make t more restrictive suck, but the service and the idea of it are still great: what equates to a social media site just for gaming, and Nintendo gaming in particular. It was a wonderful experiment, and one I was very sad to see fall by the wayside with Switch. I'm still hoping they roll out something to Miiverse when it frst came out at some point on the Switch!

Re: Feature: The Biggest Nintendo Switch Retail Games of 2017 - Summer Edition

Highlar

For me, the list is just too big and I know I will not be ABLE to get all I want that is coming out.

Splatoon 2 is already paid for, just waiting for release.
Skyrim is a must have for me, especially being able to play in portable mode.
Mario Odyssey because...Mario sandbox game!
Xenoblade Chronicles 2...loved the first one...double dipped on the N3DS version...loved X...can't wait for another from Monolith!
Sonic is actually looking really promising.
Fifa 18...haven't ever owned a Fifa game before...this will be my first.
Monster Hunter XX (REALLY hoping this will be released over here at some point)
Mario + Rabbids...was VERY surprised to find what it really was, and E3 got me hooked into wanting it NOW.
Lego Marvel Superheroes 2...have the first on Wii U...great game...portable version will be killer fun!
I would add Lego Worlds to the list...but...have it on PS4...not nearly as impressed with it as I thought I'd be...runs not the best either.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. Again...have the first on PS4 (got it over a Christmas special sale for my daughters, really cheap with ALL DLC included)...and having the second will be tons of fun on the go.
Pokken Tournament DX. Passed this one up on the Wii U. This newer version looks even better. Loved watching the tournament at E3.
(And I've still yet to get ARMS, MK8DX, etc.)

And this isn't to mention anything of possible indie and eShop only digital releases that are coming as well! This first launch year lineup of games for the Switch is...to me...the BEST launch year of any console I've seen.

Re: First Impressions: Kicking Off With FIFA 18 on the Nintendo Switch

Highlar

@Joshua179 Personally, I could care less about a Journey mode story...that is a continuation of a story I never started on the other consoles in the first place. I don't think people buy sports games (in general) for the story...its for the action. And this version (which I DO plan on getting and being the first FIFA game I'll be getting) seems (from the preview above) to have all the wanted FIFA action intact. Yes, the preview said there are maybe some slight slowdowns in frames during portable mode...BUT...since it seems that is where EA is focusing this games appeal...I would say they are doing everything they can to work that out to smooth 60fps for the launch of the game (which is still months away).

Re: Psyonix Studio Lead Discusses the Porting Process of Rocket League

Highlar

To me this sounds rather encouraging about the Switch in general. We are hearing quite a few reports from third party developers that the Switch is in reality a lot easier to work with and program for (and sounding like more powerful too) than they expected it would be (being a Nintendo platform and all). This sounds like Nintendo really did listen to third parties when designing the console, and partially built the system with much more ease of programming than previous consoles. I also absolutely agree with Psyonix on their statement about speed over resolution. Having the game running at 720p docked and undocked is perfectly fine by me...having 60fps docked and undocked sounds even better! I've held off on getting this game for my PS4 specifically in hopes that it would come out on Switch after its release...and now I can't wait to finally get my hands on it!

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd June (North America)

Highlar

@tgpitts11 @Zach777 Thanks for that info, friends. Its been driving me crazy trying to figure out when I can get what I want. lol

Unfortunately that still leaves me with another hour...UGH.. In the immortal words of Mr. Montoya: "I hate waiting."

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Looks Set for Late November Release

Highlar

@wariosmith Yes, the Switch version comes with all 3 DLC packs that were released for Skyrim on other consoles. Also...though its not been confirmed specifically...all the images we've seen so far appear to point as this being the graphically updated "definitive" version of the game which was the latest release.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Looks Set for Late November Release

Highlar

I've been looking forward to this for a long time. Its certainly one of the reasons I wanted a Switch in the first place. A full on portable Elder Scrolls...that's something of a dream come true. I've played the series off and on for years, from Redguard to Morrowind to Skyrim to ESO. Just something about it I enjoy, crafting my character how I WANT to...not how I'm forced to (not that I don't enjoy and love all RPGs...this one just has that extra amount of character freedom). I don't usually carry my Switch with me...its a bit bulky for me for that and I'm always afraid with the heights of purchasing madness surrounding the hardware it might get stolen while at work or something...but Skyrim on the go might make me want to take more of that risk. One thing I've been seriously missing, though, is any kind of extended play previews of the game running on Switch. That has me a little worried, that they've only released...what...30 second or so clips so far? I want more meaty game previews/samples than that! Although as soon as there is a confirmed lock down date...I do plan on pre-ordering. The only game I've ever put on pre-order without a solid date was Splatoon 2...just because...well...Splatoon on the go!

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd June (North America)

Highlar

So, when exactly DO they update the NA shops with these downloads? I've never been able to narrow down the exact times. Because there's two "games" I've been wanting to dive into for a while now: RPG Maker Player and Oceanhorn. Oceanhorn because though I hear the game does have its problems, the art/graphical style I find entirely charming and I quite enjoy these kind of "Zelda clone" style of games. RPG Maker Player...well...free RPGs created by other gamer RPG fans...who wouldn't want that?

Only thing stopping me from them...? They aren't out yet! One would think when they say "available XX date" that they would...you know...be available! It should say "available XX date at XX:XX time" so I don't have to keep randomly pulling up the eshop to see "Is it out yet? Is it out yet?"

Re: Nintendo Switch OS Version 3.0.0 Is Now Live

Highlar

Has anyone else discovered that the "invert colors" and "grey scale" settings don't just apply to the menus...but in game as well? Played a little BotW and Minecraft in inverted colors...talk about trippy! lol... Could only take it for so long on the eyeballs, but its pretty cool. I'd like to see a sepia one done next... lol

Re: Nintendo Switch OS Version 3.0.0 Is Now Live

Highlar

@Aouzy I've been wondering this myself. Currently on the console versions of Minecraft (for example) you can only use voice chat to communicate. However, on PC there's voice AND text chat available. I'm hoping they add text chat windows to the console versions to make communication easier for those of us that aren't really into the voice chat scene (namely because whenever I try to use voice chat in games...no one ever responds and talks back...lol).

Re: Nintendo Infographic Outlines Switch and 3DS Games for 2017

Highlar

@Joeynator3000 I've been watching Game Taco's playthrough of Stories...and I'm with him on this one: I would absolutely love to have it ported to the Switch. The game looks right up my alley! And with my 3DS having its unfortunate swimming accident early last year I'm all in on consoles...and the Switch as my portable console!

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo at E3 2017?

Highlar

@photon Oh, the Switch has been available. It just generally sells out REALLY fast whenever anywhere gets a shipment in (in most places, I know there are outliers). For example, over at gonintendo I think it was either just before or during E3, they posted something saying that someplace had just announced Switch stock replacements in...and they sold out completely in just 18 minutes. Stock is coming in...slower than I'm sure Nintendo would like...but its just being grabbed up immediately. I didn't get my Switch directly at launch. I picked up one of the Gamestop bundles that came out about a month later...but I'm VERY happy I got it (yes, even with Just Dance...people may hate on it...but with a family or group of friends it can be a lot of fun to bop around to). I feel Nintendo has apologized for the slower than wanted shipments...but I think that's partly also to the greater than expected demand. NO ONE thought the system would be this hot on the market, I personally think...and Nintendo were caught flat-footed on that. That's not exactly their fault.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo at E3 2017?

Highlar

@dkxcalibur Bleak? Really? We have ARMS now...Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Skyrim, Kingdom Battle, Poken DX, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Fate Extalla (sorry if that's spelled wrong), Rocket League, Minecraft graphics upgrade/Realms/cross-system play update (it makes me a little sad inside that no one else ever mentions this...lol), FIFA 18 (hate on it some have, but its still a full fledged FIFA game with all main modes of play), Mario Odyssey, and more (those are just off the top of my head) coming before the end of THIS year. That's only 2017. There is at LEAST one big name game coming every month from now through the end of the year. How anyone can say that's "bleak" I really don't understand. Maybe they aren't all games that fit every person exactly...but that doesn't mean there aren't a ton of games coming out on the Switch for just this year alone. And if you take all those upcoming games (not to mention all the indie games supposed to drop between now and the end of the year) and all the games already released for the Switch up TO this point...Nintendo is having a STELLAR launch year. Easily one of the best first year launch libraries I can think of since PS2.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo at E3 2017?

Highlar

@Shiryu I am really excited about Starlink...can't wait to hear more real details about it...however the Minecraft cross-play and Super Duper Graphics update (which I notice never seems to be mentioned ANYWHERE...but is GREAT news), Rocket League (which I've held off on getting on my PS4 in the hopes it would come to Switch)...the new Skyrim details...XC2 plays and release confirmed for this year...and Kingdom Battle beat out the news of the new IP...for me anyway. But I'm very interested in it!

Re: Review: Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition (Switch eShop)

Highlar

I've picked this up...always meant to day 1...but I have a few concerns. Watching a few hour ling plays the past couple of days on YouTube...they were able to see 3 modes (Survival, Creative, and Adventure) when creating new worlds. But on the downloaded release I personally see only Survival and Creative. Another thing I'm not understanding is its not allowing me to set 'keep inventory' to on in Survival. The box is just greyed out and won't let me turn it on. Anyone else seeing these problems?

Oh...and love the Mario themed world...first time playing it...but as much as I live Mario music...why on Gods green earth did they have to choose ONLY the brightest most chipper Mario tunes? I have to turn them down as it seems intrusive when creating a Mario world.

Re: Poll: How Do You Play the Nintendo Switch - As A Portable, Home Console or Hybrid?

Highlar

For me...its mostly on the tv because I play a lot with my daughters (they are begging me to download Puyo x Tetris now after we played the demo for a couple of ours against each other). Even Zelda we all played together. Sometimes I undock it and take it to work or around the house for portable or table top mode. The whole idea is just brilliant!!!

Quick question for fols though: is anyone having problems with some hdmi cords not workng with the dock? I tried moving my dock to another room and hooked it to the hdmi cable that was already on that tv...but its like it doesn't even detect being hooked up...and the cable works fine with the blue ray player in there.

Re: Poll: Do You Think Call Of Duty: WWII Will Come To Switch, And Would You Want It If It Did?

Highlar

@sillygostly I don't know. I was watching a random group podcast on this same question last night. One of the guys on the podcast had this to say (paraphrasing of course):

"Take this as rumor for now...but I know someone inside who has told me that Activision IS using a developer...well known for being asked to take in titles and port tem to other systems (wouldn't say the name of the developer of course to protect his source)...to bring this game to Switch...it won't be announced with the others...but probaly later at E3...like how cod:ghosts was announced later for Wii U after the other consoles."

IF he is right, I'm wondering if it could be Treyarch, as the are the ones who ported most other CoD games (that I'm aware of) to Nintendo platforms...and did GREAT jobs at it. My personal favorite was Word at War on the Wii.

Re: Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition Lands On 11th May

Highlar

I skipped the Wii U version but have bought it multiple times in the past (PS3, PS4, Vita). Since my Vita has gone belly up I've been missing that portable Minecraft fix...so yes...day 1 digital pick up for me. Only problem is I'll probably need yet another controller (already have 2 sets of joycons) to play this 3 player local with my daughters (they love Minecraft). Unless theres some bizarre single joycon kind of control option. lol (Maybe motion camera for looking around?)

Re: Nintendo Switch Demand Prompts GameStop to Offer Ludicrous Bundle for Delivery by 16th April

Highlar

I just do not get some of the comments. How is this shady? It is nt making people pay any kind of premium prices on anything. Its the sme price or a little less to buy them all separately. You don't want them and want to wait? Then ait and ake your chances. No retailer that I knows does preorders on anything other than first ships. After tat you are on your own to try and get it. I couldn't prerder te Switch (no funds at the time) and ad o work through te entire launch weekend. This s a retailer bsically offerin a second preorder for people. Granted you have to get it in bundle form, but it stll gaurentees you the product you want. If you don't want it, then you don't have to get it. That seems pretty simple to me. But to those trying to claim scalping or gouging customers...come on now. It would only be that if they were overcharging on what is IN the bundle to make an extra profit...and they are not. The ones doing that are those on Ebay...Amazon...etc...trying to charge $500-600 for the system alone!

Re: Nintendo Switch Demand Prompts GameStop to Offer Ludicrous Bundle for Delivery by 16th April

Highlar

I'm not really sure why everyone is being so hard on these bundles. For one its not a mark up on the value in them. For another point you are gaurenteed a Switch from the next shipments, and it is sent directly to your house (yes, I got the $600 bundle because EVERY store locally sold out in about an hour that morning). Another thing I was told is that you can bring any part in and trade in for equivalent value (like the grey joycons for colored...Just Dance for a different game...etc). However I will probably keep Just Dance because because I have twin 14yo daughters who are excited to get it. With no stores able to tell (at least around here) when new shipments of Switch will he coming in...nor any idea if I'd e able to get one then or be stuck at work AGAIN when they do...this to me was a grat alternative to gaurentee my family a Switch.

Re: Erutan Beautifully Sings 'The Hunter's Mark' in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Trailer

Highlar

I am actually a bit scared to say that Capcom is becoming one of my favorite devs/publishers again. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is a great game and Capcom is obviously listening to fans of the series about it. Ducktales and D&D games both in the works. MH4 lurking off on the horizon. Possibly a new Mega Man games in the works. And promises of further Nintendo support??? I'm not sure how Capcom has turned things around but they are doing it for me!!!

As for this trailor, it is beautifully well done. It does a great job of capturing the heart and spirit of the MH series.

Re: Team Meat: We'd Work With Nintendo If Meat Boy Made It Into Smash Bros.

Highlar

@SkywardLink98: Its not a trade. Anytime someone says "You give me what I want, and I'll CONSIDER doing something for you." with no definitive answer, that's a demand. In their own words from the last paragraph here:

If Nintendo or Sony or Microsoft - well, we'll cut off Microsoft at this point - but if Nintendo or Sony came to us and said, 'we have a minimum guarantee of X, Y, Z, we really want you to develop a game for our next system that's coming out in year whatever, if you have something to work on we want to work with you, here's a free kit to develop for us and here's a minimum guarantee or advance,' then we'd be way more inclined to develop for them, but it wouldn't be an exclusive deal. That's an important thing for us.

The key is "we'd be way more inclined". That's not saying "You give us what we want, and we WILL develop a game for you." That's saying "gimmee...and I'll think about it!" That is arrogance on a plate.
