Re: Nintendo Halts Distribution Of Switch System Update 12.0.3

Highlar

Hmm...this makes me wonder if this is why I and my daughters were having such a hard time loading/staying connected when playing Minecraft today (for the update, then server games together). We kept seeing game lag spikes or disconnects throughout the day. But seeing as we has all already gotten the system update...maybe this is why?

Re: Feature: Our Predictions For Nintendo's E3 2021 Direct

Highlar

One game my daughters have wanted to see followed up on Switch (and even more so now after getting and playing hours of Miitopia)...is Tomodachi Life. And I think it could do very well on Switch. For myself, I'm open to just about anything. I've already got the an Ace Attorney game coming, so that's covered. I'm still playing and armor set building in Rise (and MHS2 is coming next month). Subnautica is eating up my survival/horror time slots (and it is glorious on Switch...and terrifying...totally terrifying in the most excellent of ways). My yearly E3 vacation time begins on Saturday...and lasts to the Friday that week...and I cannot wait to drink in all the E3 gaming goodness next week!!

Re: More Minecraftian Voxels Drop On Switch This Summer In F2P MMO 'Trove'

Highlar

I had a pretty good time with Trove on my PS4 (back before it got shut off and pretty much mothballed in favor of my Switch). I will definitely be downloading this and giving it another go. Like any other MMO, it can be a lot of fun if you have friends to group up and quest with...but it can also be fun solo (with random players around). Looking forward to adding another MMO to my Switch library this summer then! (Although I finally pulled Onigiri off my Switch...it seems like its only gotten worse optimized in time, rather than better?)

Also...I'm a little surprised nothing has been said on N-Life about CURSED: FOAD yet (though yes, I hate the horrid name of the game)...played some rounds with my girls...pretty fun game...reminds me a lot of a PUBG style game on Switch now.

Re: Nintendo's E3 Direct To Air 15th June

Highlar

@danemord Actually, I rather loved Wii Music. It was a great time playing this with my kids when they were younger, and creating the "CD cover art" was fun. No, it wasn't the all creative music game we might have all wanted, but it wasn't really a bad time, either. I wouldn't mind an expanded on Wii Music kind of game on Switch.

Re: Nintendo's E3 Direct To Air 15th June

Highlar

Hmmm....so this could actually line up with those "Switch Pro (whatever) rumors" about a hardware revision announcement BEFORE E3 (this week or next). That way Nintendo could still put the "software only" message on for the Direct....because the hardware announcement had already been made? This is also a rather interesting time...as its on the very LAST day of E3 (schedule is June 12-15)...so what is Nintendo going to do for the whole time the REST of E3 is going on before the Direct is supposed to happen?

Re: The Zelda & Loftwing Skyward Sword amiibo Will Cost More Than Regular Figures

Highlar

Unless Nintendo announces another way to get the in game QoL abilities this amibo gives you, I have to say that I'm with those that say this isn't right at all. Not only does buying the amibo give those that own it a distinct advantage in playing the game over those that don't, but now Nintendo wants to charge MORE for that ability? This is really not something Nintendo have done with an amibo before, and its something I quite disagree with. Cosmetic items or things that don't really affect gameplay too heavily? Sure...that doesn't sound bad at all. However...locking a potentially game changing mechanic (being able to hop back up to Skyloft in the middle of a dungeon and top up on potions, etc???) behind an even more expensive than normal amibo? No...that just sounds unfair and greedy. I can't believe Nintendo would allow something like this idea to to go forward.

Re: Review: Subnautica + Subnautica Below Zero Double Pack - An Accomplished Double Dive

Highlar

@daebiya Exactly me as well. Outer Worlds, Witcher, Dark Souls, Skyrim, Doom 2016, DC Universe, Fortnite, Minecraft, Skyforge...all games that I bought/downloaded on my PS4 at one time or another...but have gotten MUCH further in any of them on Switch than I ever did on the "better looking" system. The ability to take it portable...or be on the TV and just shut the game down to sleep mode (for the single player ones) any time I want...its just so much more convenient for me to play games on Switch than on anything else these days. I have more genres of games on Nintendo's hybrid system (from horror to fantasy to just fluff games to mess around in) than I ever have before. The Switch is, without a doubt, my favorite gaming system of all time.

Re: Review: Subnautica + Subnautica Below Zero Double Pack - An Accomplished Double Dive

Highlar

I've had this on PS4 for awhile, but never really gotten very far in it. Now, I already have the first one pre-loaded on my Switch, just waiting for release. I'll wait to get Sub Zero until after I finish the first one. I now own several games on my Switch that I had on PS4 first...but I always get farther on the Switch version than I ever did on the other for some reason. Can't wait to dive back into this world on Friday!

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About E3 2021?

Highlar

Just as I always do these last few years, I"ve had my E3 vacation week put in for a while now. I take the whole week off as vacation time, and me and my girls spend hours together pouring over news and videos and live feeds. I don't know if E3 will ever reach the heights it once had, but I am still very very excited to get back into it this year again!

Re: Iconic Action-RPG Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance Isn't Out Today On Nintendo Switch After All

Highlar

Personally, I absolutely love ARPG's. I have Diablo 3, Victor Vran, Titan, Torchlight 2, Nine Parchments all on my Switch (or in the fridge, but still bought). I plan on picking up Diablo 2 whenever its given an actual release date. And the BG:DA games in particular I adore. Back when I was married years ago, it was one of the few games I could get my ex-wife in to playing with me. I still remember the many hours we spent hunting together in this game. Does the price tag seem kind of steep? Yeah, it does...but I'm going to get it anyway. I had no idea this was coming to the eShop until today. Now I'm just sad its been delayed, or I'd be adventuring in Baldur's Gate again right now!

Re: Soapbox: After 17 Years, Monster Hunter Rise Finally Made Me Kind Of Competent

Highlar

@Ooyah Personally, I almost never use the other "attack" items like bombs, etc., either. But the combat never gets or feels old to me, especially with the addition of the wirebug attacks. They are flashy and over the top and make you feel just powerful when you pull them off. Maneuvering around the beasts to get that perfect weakness hit always feels thrilling, and Rise makes it feel a bit easier to feel that with the change in damage colors from white to yellow to let me know when I'm zeroed in. Trying to get that big head hit in with a hammer...spinning around witht he bow for head/wing/leg shots...zipping in and out with the dual blades...its all, for me, it is just...fun. Always has been, always will be.

Re: Soapbox: After 17 Years, Monster Hunter Rise Finally Made Me Kind Of Competent

Highlar

@Skid For one, I feel the village quests are easier...but I also think that was purposefully done. The challenge of the game comes in the Hub, which though it scales for number of players on a quest, even if you are doing it solo the monsters have much more hp and hit much harder...it can be a real challenge. Also, the story that ends in the single player village continues in the Hub quests. You don't get to the "final boss monster" in the village...you have to do the Hub quests to "finish" the story. High rank monsters in the Hub in particular are so much fun to hunt, because they can be a challenge, even with 4 players hunting together. The QoL changes to the game (which mirror and surpass World in convenience) make the game "feel" easier...but I'd say its more "streamlined" than "easier". Also, the combat feels much more frenetic this time around...maybe TOO much sparkles flying around, for close combat fighting sometimes...but it feels to me like the monsters (even returning monsters) are much faster and more agile now than they've even been before. It makes for thrilling, fast feeling hunts...even though they aren't necessarily actually fast...they FEEL faster than in previous games. Rise is fast becoming my favorite Monster Hunter game ever, and I can't wait for the new content later this month!

Re: Nintendo Reveals The Top 15 Most-Downloaded Switch Games In March 2021 (Europe)

Highlar

Makes me really happy to see Monster Hunter Rise selling so well! Hopefully we will see more than just the two updates for the game we already know about, with sales like this. Over here in the NA Eshop charts, its taking up two spaces: one for the regular game, and also one for the deluxe edition! And they are both currently in the top 10 (positions 1 and 7 respectively). That's a lot of hunters out there, and glad to see it!

Re: Review: Monster Hunter Rise - A New Apex For Capcom's Beastly Franchise

Highlar

@rex_rex This is really one of the best parts of the Monster Hunter franchise, because there seems to be a weapon type for all playstyles. If you like ranged combat, there's the bow and bowguns. Prefer something quick to dart in and out? Sword and shield and dual blades could be your thing. Feel like just standing toe to toe and hammering it out with the beasts? Hammer, great sword and hunting horn will suit your needs just fine. Thinking of finesse and a back and forth of counter and strike? Long sword is there for you. There is so much variety, and every weapon makes it feel like playing a different style of game. Welcome to the hunt, fellow Hunter!

Re: Review: Monster Hunter Rise - A New Apex For Capcom's Beastly Franchise

Highlar

15 hours until the CREDITS doesn't necessarily sound bad, because as the review says, the game and story continue on AFTER the first credits roll. This has been the way of Monster Hunter games for years now. Just seeing the credits roll for the first time is not the end of the game...some would say its just he beginning! So I'm really not too worried about hearing that at all. Already have this loaded onto my Switch, and can't wait until it opens up for me to dive into it!

Re: Video: Check Out This Unboxing Of The Monster Hunter Rise Collector's Edition

Highlar

Just went with the deluxe edition digitally, as there are a few games which never leave my Switch (Skyrim, MHGU, and now MHR), but that collector's set is pretty nice. However, my prepay just went through yesterday, and the game downloaded while I was at work. Now its going to taunt me...all week long...just sitting there on my Switch and unable to start it! ARGH!

Re: Video: 15 Exciting New Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In February

Highlar

Several on the list I'm interested in. Anodyne 2, Nuts, Bravely Default 2, Little Nightmares 2, the Capcom arcade. But mostly I'm interested in Skyforge. I love playin MMOs on my Switch (still have installed and play DCUO, Warframe, and Elemental Knights), and been looking forward to any new ones. I even bought the $30 early access pass and installed Skyforge already. I'll be booting it up tomorrow and probably putting a good few hours into it since I'm off work tomorrow. Talk about good timing for me!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 9th)

Highlar

@iaLgan Just curious, but what about the controls do you not like? I admit, the wirebug is taking me a bit getting used to, but if you aren't using it to travel much, it pretty much plays like World in many respects. Most of the weapons seem based on World, with a bit of GU thrown in with the silkbind attacks acting as Styles. I personally am loving the bow, with its changes to Arc Shots, and gyro aiming (although that did take some fiddling with to get it feeling right for me). Many of the controls have options to change and set in the options menu. Which control aspects do you seem to be not liking?

Re: Introducing Genki: ShadowCast, The "Simplest Way" To Connect Your Switch To A Laptop

Highlar

This could be GREAT for game streaming/recording for those wanting to get into YouTube or something, but can't afford one of those expensive capture cards. This sounds like a relatively cheap way to do pretty much the same thing that something much more expensive can do. Its not just about "playing on your laptop", but "using the laptop to stream Switch games to Twitch/YouTube/other video services". I like it!

Re: Nintendo Announces Super Nintendo World Direct Livestream

Highlar

Even as a Nintendo fan, and as cool as this kind of a theme park is for me personally, I don't exactly get this. Its basically targeted only at Japan, especially now. I really don't see much reason why they would put so much effort into promoting something that a vast majority of their fans just cannot go to, but especially now with the pandemic situation. So a Japanese direct about this? Sure, I could see that. But a translated, world-wide Direct just because its Nintendo related that most of their fans simply cannot have anything to do with? I'm not sure I can see why they would put the money and effort into that. It just seems like a waste to me. I can understand a company promoting a product, but the target audience at this time is just not really a world wide audience.

Re: The Outer Worlds On Switch Has Been Updated To Version 1.2

Highlar

While I didn't mind the game before, it definitely looks improved now. The increased vegetation is pretty obvious. The sky clouds are stationary/don't move, but they look good up there, adding to the atmosphere. Things just seem overall more crisp than before the patch. Also, it seems to control smoother/tighter than before. Textures look better overall. Character models seem cleaner when talking to NPC's too.

I'm going to enjoy playing through this all over again now...although I've already beaten it once on the Switch already. I have it on Switch AND PS4, and I prefer playing on the Switch with the gyro aiming when looking down the scope, even before the patch and with the game looking nowhere near as pretty.

Re: Video: The Monster Hunter Movie's First Official Trailer Is Here

Highlar

I'm going to give it a shot. The scenes with the vehicles and guns look to be from the beginning and ending of the movie, maybe. The weapon designs from the Monster Hunter world appear to be intact. You can tell that's a great sword and dual blades they are wielding. And when she does the dual blades up, catching fire while crossed above her head...she's going into demon blade mode. Also, the MH world...world...parts look like they could be taken from areas of the game with the little bits we saw: there was the volcano...the desert...the ancient forest. The monster designs are particularly looking well done, too. At first, when the first teasers came out, I was NOT a fan...now I'm definitely willing to give it a shot. It looks like good, MH fun to me. Do I wish it were taking place solely in the MH universe, with only Hunters, and Guild Marms, and quests? Sure...that would be fantastic...but I'll see what they've done with what they have here and give it a shot.

Re: A Follow-Up To The Outer Worlds Is Already In Pre-Production, Says Industry Insider

Highlar

@Casual_Gamer95 I didn't say it was a "great" game on Switch...I said it wasn't "horrible". The port is not as bad as all that. And no, it does not run like a "powerpoint presentation" on Switch either. Is it the BEST port on Switch? No. But the game is perfectly playable and enjoyable start to finish on Switch. Would a patch be welcome to improve it even more? Sure. But the game is not a horrible, unplayable mess like some make it out to be.

Re: A Follow-Up To The Outer Worlds Is Already In Pre-Production, Says Industry Insider

Highlar

@Casual_Gamer95 Its not "horrible" on Switch. I own it on both PS4 and Switch, and I prefer playing it on Switch. Does it look as pretty as the PS4 version? No. But it runs fine for the most part. A very occasional loading circle may appear at times, but it really is a rare occurrence. The portability and gyro aiming make for a great time playing this game on Switch. It isn't broken, and its entirely playable. I took it from beginning to end (which I rarely do on games these days...something almost always pulls me off onto something else). And even have started a second save now, because there were areas I didn't even get to on my first playthrough. It looks better on PS4, but plays better on Switch to me.

Re: Popular Twitch And TikTok Star Pokeprincxss Has Been Sued By Nintendo

Highlar

For me, I couldn't care less if she works in porn or not. But that shirt above (example of her merchandise) IS a Mew. Its not "inspired by" Mew...that IS a Mew. And on the front isn't an "inspired by" Pokeball...it IS a pokeball. That looks like a direct use of the Pokemon IP brand and images, and I'm sure she didn't go to Nintendo and get permission to use it. A name is one thing, but completely ripping off someone else's images and using them to make a profit for yourself? Yeah, Nintendo did the right thing here. I'm sure the porn thing played a part in it as well, but when she moved to selling merch that directly stole images from Nintendo (or the Pokemon Co. if you prefer) to me crossed a line.

Re: Feature: Skyforge Developer On Bringing The Fantasy Sci-Fi MMORPG To Switch

Highlar

I've tried this on PS4 and enjoyed it, and am certainly willing to give it a shot again on Switch. Maybe I'll enjoy it more now, because both my daughters will be able to play it with me this time. Looking forward to when it drops on the eShop. Although, its kind of sad that they think they will have to drop massive PvP battles on this Switch version. I guess it depends on if they can further optimize the game after release?

Re: Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase Appears Out Of Nowhere, Watch It Here

Highlar

It seems like many above are disappointed in this mini Direct, but not me! More big online games are always welcome, and I look forward to trying World of Tanks today, especially as it looks like its crossplay. Rhythm games I love, so this was a fun Direct for me. Puyopuyo x Tetris 2 was a surprise announcement. I think there was maybe a bit too much time spent on Just Dance, since everyone KNOWS the game by now inside and out. An arcade boxing style game based on Rocky was a surprise as well. It might be fun. Didn't get that "one more thing" at the end though, which was a bit disappointing. Oh...and why have we still not seen any kind of real, actual gameplay of what exactly you DO in Fuser?
I'm interested in the game, but for the life of me I still don't know what you actually DO in the game! The biggest announcement for me, personally, was the SaGa Final Fantasy collection. These were some of my absolute favorite games from the DS...I've been wanting a collection like this for a long long time!

Re: Fans Aren't Happy With The State Of Minecraft On Switch, But Mojang Is Rolling Out A Hotfix

Highlar

I don't know about others comments that "its never run on Switch!". I used to play it just fine on Switch, including cross-play on a paid for server with people on PC/mobile/Xbox. The "game servers" run worse, sure, but that's because thousands of players are logging into those at once. However, saying all that, we haven't been able to play on out Switchs since that last Piglin Brute update. The game would sometimes load...then freeze/crash...and completely lock up the Switch. The only way out of it would be a hard restart of the system. Its been VERY frustrating. Hopefully installing this hotfix will clear it up. I'll check later tonight after work.
