Nintendo has shared an updated list of Europe's most-downloaded Switch eShop games, revealing which titles were the most popular during March 2021.
Taking top spot this time around is Monster Hunter Rise, despite the fact that it only launched on the 26th of the month. Considering the title's already shipped five million units worldwide, it's hardly a surprise to see it top the list, but doing so in such a small number of days is still an impressive feat.
Among Us continues to perform well in the download charts thanks to its immense popularity and cheap price point, while February's number one, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, remains in the top three.
You can check out the full list below. It's based on the number of Nintendo eShop downloads (so no physical sales) in European territories during the whole month:
- Monster Hunter Rise
- Among Us
- Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
- Minecraft
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Stardew Valley
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town
- Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time
- Hades
- Pokémon Sword
- Super Mario Party
- Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville Complete Edition
- Harvest Moon: One World
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Did you download any of these titles on Switch last month? Any surprises in the top 15? Tell us below.

No 3D All Stars? I thought there would be a last minute rush to get it.
Wow! an EA game in the top 15.
Will they continue to say switch isn't a viable platform for them?
Among Us was released at the perfect time and sometimes the simplest games are the most popular.
@Perryg92 I'm glad to see it, as its an actual effort from them, and a fun game.
Quite a solid top 15 of which I have 13 of.
Look at Breath of the Wild there in 15th place. Wonder what the raw numbers are.
@jump Weird. I'm guessing the limited nature made everyone opt for a physical copy instead. Be worth more and no chance of not being able to access it for some reason in future.
It's sad that Mario Party did and continues to do well and Nintendo didn't care/bother to offer at least one DLC.
The game, after release, has been completely forgotten.
@Clyde_Radcliffe @jump I also think it was an extra reason to get physical versions instead of digital. Physical you can still get it at some stores even, digital is all gone.
Nice to see Crash 4 and Plants vs zombies in the charts. Both are great games.
@tourjeff
Totally agree, I have Mario Party and they should added more boards with dlc.
Has left me with a sour taste on this one, bad of Nintendo really.
@Dezzy70 this was a game that I was sure it would receive a few more boards and characters at least.
In my view it would be similar to the updates received in Mario Tennis but, nope, nothing.
The game in its current state feels like a 'starter pack' with a lot of potential.
I reckon now it's too late for any new content.
I have two of these games. It's a good thing. The massive success of the switch means there are games for niches large and small.
@Dezzy70 @tourjeff Completely agree with both of you.
It is a good game but just seems to have been chucked aside, the reason I didnt buy it until a few months ago was because I was waiting on some extra board DLC, but I caved in the end
@tourjeff Yeah.. ND Cube worked on Clubhouse games after finishing Mario Party rather than working on DLC.. But Clubhouse was probably their best game so far. Hopefully the next Mario Party will offer more in terms of content
To anyone wondering why we haven't gotten a mario kart 9, this is the reason.
@Bunkerneath @Dezzy70 @tourjeff @robotshort Super Mario Party could’ve been the best Mario Party game ever, if it wasn’t so bare bones. They didn’t even need more mini-games, but just an extra map or two would’ve added a lot to the game. That said, I love Clubhouse games too, so I’m glad that game got created as well. It’s almost a guarantee that, whenever I see my family, we dust off one of these two games and also probably a Jackbox of some type. My playtime on both of them is up there with Three Houses and BotW.
10 out of 15 on my library, nice to see some third party games in there
Solid launch for Story of Seasons and Crash 4.
Interesting to see Mario Kart 8 Deluxe ahead of Animal Crossing: New Horizon. I still think ACNH will overtake it in overall sales soon, but MK8 still keeps selling great guns!
@jump I reckon anyone who was going to buy it because it's a special edition picked it up months back. But most Switch owners probably won't even realise it was a limited release - it's just another Mario game in the store.
I’m happy crash 4 made it on the list.
@jump I think they removed all trace of it as it’s not available for purchase. It instantly disappeared from the eShop charts even though any given chart is based on downloads from the previous two weeks.
@AmplifyMJ That sounds logical.
Nope, haven't downloaded any of them.
Makes me really happy to see Monster Hunter Rise selling so well! Hopefully we will see more than just the two updates for the game we already know about, with sales like this. Over here in the NA Eshop charts, its taking up two spaces: one for the regular game, and also one for the deluxe edition! And they are both currently in the top 10 (positions 1 and 7 respectively). That's a lot of hunters out there, and glad to see it!
@PhilKenSebben oh I wasn't dissing the game itself in any way. It's a very well done port by QLOC!
I am just suggesting eyes on EA themselves now to provide further support considering one of their games has done very well. They can't say people aren't buying their games.
@Perryg92 100% agreed, and I just wanted to say the game was fun. Didn't take what you said as a diss.
@Perryg92 i mean only 1% of their total revenue is from switch I dont think they care.
@Highlar both versions are in the European eShop chart too, they occupied the top two positions for a while! Great to see. Built to the strengths of the hardware, Capcom are now rightly reaping the rewards. Imagine the games we’d get if others did the same! Build it, and they will come...
@Clyde_Radcliffe I own only one physical game, and that's Mario 3D All-Stars. A few different reasons for why I got it a physical edition. It was actually on sale for $10 less than the digital version. Second, I didn't know if I would actually want to replay these games, and I allowed myself to buy it knowing that I could sell it easily. (It's currently the third most played game on my Switch.) And third, if a friend wanted to play the game, but got a Switch later down the line, I could lend/give/sell my copy. The only other physical game I would consider purchasing would be Ring Fit, because (as far as I know) it's the only game without a digital release.
I'm glad to see that Stardew Valley beat out the new Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons games, even though Stardew Valley is 5 years old.
