Obsidian Entertainment is supposedly already working on a sequel to its action-RPG The Outer Worlds, which made its debut on the Nintendo Switch in June this year after multiple delays.
The scoop comes courtesy of industry insider and Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad, who says the follow-up is already in a pre-production phase:
Whether or not a future entry in the series would even see a release on a Nintendo platform is another question altogether.
Private Division and Virtuos are still trying to improve the overall experience of the original game on the Switch and intend to release a patch later this month. Switch owners are also waiting for the first story DLC - Peril on Gorgon - to arrive.
Would you be up for a sequel just yet? Have you played the original game? Tell us down below.

The first game was a pleasant surprise; loved it on my PS4.
Switch version was... interesting to say the least.
Second chapter could be nice if they iron out the first game’s issues and various bugs...
Has the Switch version of this game been fixed yet?
I know it was never broken to begin with but a game that looks like a bad PS2 game is certainly in need of some sort of fixing.
If they've at least made it look like a PS3 game, I may consider it now.
Watch it be an exclusive on Xbox Series X/S
Why would it be on a Nintendo platform?
"Is Obsidian gearing up for a second adventure?"
Try reading the title again and you might find the answer.
Please don't have it be on the switch...and if it is, please let it be better.
@Tasuki
It will also be on PC.
Likely no PS4/PS5/Switch/Switch 2 versions.
A Fallout: New Vegas remake would be more than welcome.
Xbox/ PC exclusive...
Considering Obsidian is a Microsoft property now, I think it'll probably only come to Xbox Live and XBox.. at least initially.
@SeantheDon29 Maybe that's a possibility with Bethesda and Obsidian both being owned by Microsoft.
@backup368 it wouldn't, this is a pointless article. We're chumps for clicking on it.
I can tell you one thing for sure. This one ain't coming to Switch or PS4 whatsoever. Outer Worlds was only multiplatform because it was in development before Microsoft acquired Obsidian, and thus they wanted to uphold the original intent for release on multiple platforms. Considering Obsidian's next game Avowed is Xbox/PC exclusive, an Outer Worlds sequel will likely be released exclusively on those platforms too.
@Razer they didn't fix it yet. it's still horrible. my friend bought it blindly last week and he regrets not buying the ps4 version
Yeah, if it does get a sequel, definitely won't get it on switch again. I can deal with the issues of the first game. It wasn't as horrible as a lot of people made it out to be, but man it was still rough.
@Casual_Gamer95 Its not "horrible" on Switch. I own it on both PS4 and Switch, and I prefer playing it on Switch. Does it look as pretty as the PS4 version? No. But it runs fine for the most part. A very occasional loading circle may appear at times, but it really is a rare occurrence. The portability and gyro aiming make for a great time playing this game on Switch. It isn't broken, and its entirely playable. I took it from beginning to end (which I rarely do on games these days...something almost always pulls me off onto something else). And even have started a second save now, because there were areas I didn't even get to on my first playthrough. It looks better on PS4, but plays better on Switch to me.
I'd prefer they announced patches for the first game. Lots and lots of patches.
That’s cool, but the port to the switch was terrible
The Outer Worlds was my GOTY for 2019. I played it on Xbox One though. Really looking forward to the sequel.
I’m desperate for the patch they announced was in development. I’ve shelved it for now until then, when I started it I sunk 10 hours into it without even realising, thoroughly enjoy it so far and can’t wait to go back - just want to wait for the best experience possible before I resume play but. Something to look forward to
They should just bring a lot more story content to original game. Its way to short.
Talking about the series they're taking way too long to fix the first game in Switch...
Virtuos, what are you waiting for??
Honestly, I generally don't like it when a game turns out be a hit and they immediately try to capitalize on the hype, but given Outer worlds is just a really great mash and polishing of ideas from other games (which is not in any way a bad thing), I have more faith the team is going to be able to build on the great foundation.
Also for people still freaking out over Bethesda, I will remind you Microsoft has owned Obsidian for over 2 years.
@Highlar no, it's horrible. the game barely runs at 25fps and it's even worst when starting combats, it drops even lower. the only moments it runs at 30fps, are if you're inside a building. and just because you're fine with it, doesn't mean everyone should accept this lack of quality when ports come to switch. Even obsidian basically admitted it wasn't great on switch later on and they promised a patch which they have yet to deliver.
so yes, horrible describes it perfectly, seeing how much better bigger games like witcher 3 look and run better on switch.
And before someone comes in and tell me "framerate doesn't matter", no, untrue. Nobody that respects it/herself wants to play games that run like powerpoint presentations
@Casual_Gamer95 I didn't say it was a "great" game on Switch...I said it wasn't "horrible". The port is not as bad as all that. And no, it does not run like a "powerpoint presentation" on Switch either. Is it the BEST port on Switch? No. But the game is perfectly playable and enjoyable start to finish on Switch. Would a patch be welcome to improve it even more? Sure. But the game is not a horrible, unplayable mess like some make it out to be.
@Dazzle don’t see how you can make that statement when avowed - their next big title - is Xbox/pc exclusive
