Although Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are remakes, there is new stuff to uncover in the Switch releases.
One thing you might have noticed yourself is a new hidden tale located within Canalave library. As explained by IGN, this text wasn't featured in the original game and can be located on the second floor of the building. It's titled "The Sea's Legend" and was apparently "only recently discovered" and so its "ancient letters" have only just been decoded. Here is the tale in full:
"Once upon a time in the East Sea, there was a Pokémon known as the prince. A brave human asked Pokémon living in the sea to let them see the prince. Mantyke, Buizel, and a Qwilfish with huge spikes acknowledged the human's bravery and joined them. Together, they set off in a boat over the sunset-streaked sea, sailing through the ocean gate stretched over the waves. News of this reached the ears of the prince, who went to meet the brave little party at the Seaside Hollow."
That's the extent of the tale, and it's already sparked a lot of theories - with one being that it's actually teasing something about the upcoming Switch release, Pokémon Legends: Arceus. There's no known location called 'Seaside Hollow' in the mainline series, and it doesn't seem to have any links to the latest remakes. "Prince" though is a name "Manaphy" goes by in the Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea film, although the anime and games don't typically crossover.
IGN also notes how the embargo for the Diamond & Pearl remakes prevented media from discussing or revealing contents found within any of the books in Canalave's library before the review embargo lifted - which suggests this could be a tease.
What do you make of all of this? Have you located this tale in the Diamond and Pearl remakes yet? Comment down below.

This is a reference to the Pokemon ranger anime movie. That's all.
Manaphy is the prince of the sea.
Definitely manaphy, I think saying its teasing something related to legends is a bit of a stretch
It may be so many years after I saw that Pokémon Ranger movie, the first that came up in my mind is that this is just a random Manaphy reference.
Still a nice addition.
would be cool if they make a Legends game based on Lugia and johto region, but that's quite the stretch
They had to think of something to replace the 'people marrying Pokemon' book 😂
I gotta get myself one of those Conalave hot dogs
Definitely talking about Manaphy
Would the Ocean Gate be those giant horns sticking out of the ocean on the Arceus map?
@Meteoroid I’m not sure if this needs stating, but the number of articles a game receives is not based on some multiple of the review score. It’s based on projected clicks and generated traffic. Which ultimately these silly feuds are only fuelling.
Anyway, regarding the actual content of the article, Manaphy does indeed seem likely, but I feel like it could also be teasing something about future games. My assumption is that Manaphy will play SOME sort of a role in Legends: Arceus. It’s is one of Sinnoh/Hissui’s legendary Pokémon after all, so it would be strange if it didn’t make an appearance.
I wonder if you’ll actually play out these events in the game…
*Qwilfish, *Canalave
@Meteoroid A 6/10 says to me that the person fairly enjoyed the game, but set bias aside and stated some concerns/lows.
@Moonlessky - Well, unless Manaphy plays a role in Legends Arceus, which is also likely.
@Meteoroid This game is not a 6/10 objectively. Let’s Go got a 8/10 on this site so review scores here should be approached with a careful glance since in this case NL is the lower end outlier
@Meteoroid I agree, dude was probably having an off day. These demakes are objectively far, FAR lower than a 6/10, but reviewers do tend to skew higher for this series.
@VoidofLight definitely not. They deliberately ignore the anime in the games (rightfully so, the anime is garbage), therw are very few references. I'm pretty sure they care zero about the Rangers movie, they would not put a reference to it in a place so important to the Pokémon lore (yes, it is).
It's definitely a hint at something coming. It's probably teasing how you get Manaphy in Legends.
@Meteoroid sorry, but this doesn't make sense. You say yourself, reviews are subjective, there isn't such a thing as an objective score.
I think this games fully deserves a 6/10 for it's lack of ambition, and overall cheapness.
You also can't compare scores directly to each other, you always have to keep the context of release in mind.
Let's Go was a gap filler, we all knew that, and so expectations were lower. Pokémon remakes ALWAYS used the newest gen style, imagine Sinnoh with a more natural, realistic environment, it would serve the epicness of the region way better. So it was completely reasonable to have high expectations for Gen 4 remakes, and this games fall very short of that.
I personally disagreed with the score for SWSH, for me, Let's Go 7/10, SWSH 6/10, BDSP 6/10. I personally feel that both SWSH and BDSP are an insult to the community, especially SWSH, they're cynical, they delivee the very minimum because they know we, idiots, will buy any cashgrab they make.
@HenHiro So, you're just going to ignore the references to the anime in Sun and Moon then? Also, this is a direct reference to the rangers movie. The poster shows a boy with the same pokemon mirroring what's been referenced in the book. The same prince of the sea as well.
It's obviously Manaphy, but in the original DP you couldn't encounter it in the wild, sounds like this time you can if you take the pokemon it mentions and go to the place it says.
@DJP- not sure about the japanese version, but the more subtle dub version is still there on the top floor, which more or less says the same thing using "ate together at the same table" as a proxy for marriage.
This one was revealed before release via leaks.
