Not content with only giving us a new look at Pokémon Legends: Arceus today, The Pokémon Company has also shared a brand new trailer for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
This latest clip gives us our first glimpse at how the Pokétch will work in the remakes – you'll notice some familiar apps being used on the device, as well a function which appears to let you use HMs. Handy!
We also get a good look at stat-enhancing Poffins, an adorable segment that focuses on exploring Amity Square with your closest Poképals, and a better look at some of the games' key characters like Riley and Cheryl.
If you missed it earlier, make sure to also check out today's Legends: Arceus news, in which a brand new Pokémon called Kleavor was revealed.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl launch on Nintendo Switch on 19th November. Are you looking forward to checking them out?

Huh, honestly didn't expect any trailers until right before release. Not complaining, though.
I can't wait to take 6 flygon on a stroll in Amity square and bake poffins with them, GOTY
I hope the following Pokemon mechanic isn't limited to that one area. This remake is shaping up to be decent. If nothing else, it'll be a fun way to kill an hour or two on Christmas Day.
I need to rearrange my gaming purchase list which games i should pick first in November and December 2021 after watching the trailer above.
Btw, if Pokemon BDSP Pokedex until Gen 6, i want my boy Sawk.
@DomGC The website says it's a Poketch app that calls on wild Pokemon. Get the HM in your app, use it, wild Pokemon on hand to do it.
I guess it's asking too much to ditch the concept of teaching your party terrible HM moves ☹
EDIT: Good, they did, thank Arceus.
@CharlieGirl
Actually, the Pokétch works like the Poké Ride service from Sun and Moon.
You call wild Pokémon to perform these Hidden Moves, instead of relying on teaching them to your team.
@RupeeClock oh thank god
@CharlieGirl You don't need to learn your pokemon HMs lol
You can call wild pokemon via the Poketech to use HMs
This remake keeps slowly surprising me every trailer and i love it
Ah great, these games had so many HMs and you absolutely had to have all of them to move around, so this is great news.
@CharlieGirl
Yup that was my response too.
I'm also just happy to see the Pokétch return by itself, it's a neat little thing.
It’s a bit weird to see the poketch just hanging there in the corner but I guess that’s better than just losing it completely.
Also omg, you can just unleash your entire team onto the amity place.
Bidoof is free from his shackles
I really hope this means HMs don't need to actually be taught to Pokemon. This trailer doesn't make it 100% clear so fingers crossed.
@Fighting_Game_Loser Nah he just got hired full-time by the Poketch company. Judging from the video, every other action is performed by a random Bidoof/Bibarel
Well now no one will have to have a Bibarel on their team. That was the perfect HM slave.
@Samuel-Flutter
They seem to be aware of this fact, because wild Bidoof and Bibarel are being called to perform Cut, Surf, and Rock Climb.
And Staraptor is called for Fly, an ever popular choice.
@Eel Ok on one hand that's really funny and a nice reference,
But on the other hand why can't Bidoof be free for once
If this has the battle frontier I'll get it. If not, I'm not getting it.
I hope they give us a Bibarel that can use Fly and Defog too.
So is this just a graphics update of the original, or are there significant new gameplay additions??
I see the poketech but I didn't see if they left in the part for chaining shiny pokemon. I just cannot decide if I want to buy this until know!
@chipia It's a remake with Quality of Life features. Things like Amity letting you have 6 pokemon follow you, or pokemon following you through the entire region of sinnoh, things like the HM's being tied to your poketch instead of your pokemon, so you're not really using up move slots, etc.
This is an awesome quality of life feature. As much as I love Gen 4(still my favorite gen), the games were pretty ruthless with the HMs, new and old. So yeah, a very welcoming feature here.
I hate the trend of using random rentals to traverse the region instead of your own Pokemon.
HM moves could just not take up a traditional move slot. I don't know why they're avoiding that really simple solution.
Game's looking great. Still planning on picking it up on day 1.
Anyone else actually not liking the new pokemon? It just looks like they took a lower quality version breath of the wild world and added some buildings there and here that lowkey look out of place. I fully gave up on Gamefreak producing good quality pokemon games. Ive been repeatedly disappointed by them since Pokemon ORAS
I really like the HM compromise. It seems like you'll need a Pokemon compatible with an HM, but it won't take an entire move slot.
While I appreciate the pass few attempts at removing HMs, it's not as fun riding a rental Pokémon as much as you're own, and from a mechanical standpoint they were just glorified keys.
@Piritiup
I have interest with this game.
The graphic was fine for me, at least not 2D like NDS.
@swoose That defeats the purpose of what they're trying to do, make it so you don't have to have certain Pokémon or moves just to be able to get around. A quality of life change.
Glad to see that HMs have been modified in a way that we can just use the field abilities without wasting a move/party slot. Part of what makes Sinnoh's map design so good is that they used HMs in a way to create a ton of interesting and challenging puzzles and the newer games have been lacking that. I'd prefer a way to register our own Pokemon instead of just using Wild Pokemon, but this works fine.
@Paddle1 But it isn't really a QOL change when you completely remove one half of the challenge to a game franchise. HM's needed to be reworked, not thrown out entirely.
@Bolt_Strike Navigating the environment was an integral component to a Pokemon game. Dedicating party slots to Pokemon who could help you navigate the environment was not a "waste." It was the whole point.
A critical part of a mainline Pokemon game was asking you the question, "Want to explore this dangerous cave and find a rare legendary at the end? Well then you gotta bring the right Pokemon with you who can handle the task!"
On the other side of the coin, the Pokemon battles, the game asks you a question, "Want to take on this gym leader? Then you have to use the right Pokemon for the task! You can't just use whatever Pokemon you want against a Steel type gym! You have to dedicate party slots to Pokemon who can take on a specific challenge!"
That's the whole point. The whole point of Pokemon was a juggling act. It was about managing a team of Pokemon who could not only take on specific gym leaders or Elite Four members, but also Pokemon who could take on specific challenges within the environment.
@Ulysses No, that's not the point. Pokemon is designed to be flexible, to allow you to pick your favorites and find ways to win with them. Forcing you to use specific Pokemon to progress goes against the spirit of the series. So constantly having to swap out Pokemon you like for one that you didn't, or forcing you to sacrifice a move you liked for one that you didn't, was far too limiting for teambuilding and it became irritating. HMs being gone is an improvement.
@NinjaWaddleDee
Wasn't in DP, only Pt and HGSS. So don't put your bets on it.
I wouldn't be surprised, though, if we got the Battle facility from Sword & Shield back in a copy paste reference to how HGSS used the Pt frontier and ORAS used the XY facility.
Those seem like smart changes, the most I see of this game the more I want it
I'm still wondering if there will be something new, just two months to go!
@chipia Judging from the other main series remakes, you also get access to updated items, attacks, movesets, and mechanics (like Hidden Abilities and unlimited use TMs) up to Gen 8; and there should be a way to transfer Pokémon from Sword and Shield unlocked at some point.
I hope they give us stuff from Platinum like the Battle Frontier and a shiny new HD Distortion World, but it's doubtful given the track record of these remakes.
@swoose They don't do that, because Surf and Waterfall are moves you actually want in your movesets for battle, and occasionally Defog, as well. Fly, Strength, Flash, and Rock Climb are also decent filler moves before you unlock most of the TMs, as long as you don't have to go to the hassle of going to the Move Deleter to get rid of them later.
I suppose they could put in some kind of interface that lets you decide whether the HM is being added to the moveset or just the special HM section, but that would be a hassle to program compared to the simpler solution of Ride Pokémon.
@Piritiup It's still a remake, so they had to stick to the existing map with its 2.5D grid structure. With that in mind, I think the updated graphics look quite lovely, just like what they did with the "Link's Awakening" remake.
Besides, even if the graphics are quite what you expected, that doesn't matter if they nail the gameplay.
@Ulysses @Bolt_Strike Bolt_Strike is right. Besides, that wasn't the point of HMs, anyway. Nobody cares about needing the right Pokémon in your party to access areas and do a rare puzzle! It was at least 90% frustration that nobody liked!
It wasn't even much of a challenge that you claim it was to just go back to the last Pokémon Center and switch a party member to an HM user or slave when needed, just annoying busywork; so in the end, it only ever mattered that you completed enough of the game to gain those access rights. Hence, the Ride Pokémon have always been a great streamlining of the process.
Battles are different, since party arrangement for them is both strategic and fun. HM management is neither.
Puffins are just for contest stats right? They aren't going back to that horrible system they had in LGPE right?
@BulbasaurusRex im not the one to usually talk about graphics but man, in this age and time when good graphics are becoming comman standards, why are they releasing games that look cheap. Youre not talking about an indie developer, youre talking about game freak, and multi billion corporation. They have the skill, the money but chose to release this crap. (IMO!)
